  It is better to do this in the summer, otherwise, after thawing, the soil may sag and your veranda will simply move away from the wall of the house. Think carefully about what it will be built from and how the outside is finished so as not to spoil the appearance of the building.
• Usually, a columnar foundation is made under the veranda. This is quite enough to support the weight of the frame and its cladding.
  Brick pillars foundations are laid out in holes up to one meter deep, under each corner post. If the veranda is more than one and a half meters long, intermediate pillars are also made.

• In the holes dug for the foundation, sand cushions are first arranged, about twenty centimeters high. Fine crushed stone is poured over the sand and filled with liquid solution.
  To ensure that the water from the solution does not go into the sand, before filling it with crushed stone, it is better to lay roofing felt with a bend of 10 cm along the walls of the pit.
• The resulting concrete pad will serve as a support for the brick column. Before laying it out, the concrete must be coated liquid glass, or bitumen.
  Any other waterproofing composition will also work. The height of the pillars must be calculated so that the floor level of the veranda is 20-25 cm lower than in the house.
• After the masonry is completed, the internal cavity columnar foundation filled with gravel, stone, broken brick- any available material. The outer surface of the pillars is also coated with a waterproofing compound.

• Various types of glass blocks can be combined in any way you like, creating panels, making lighting. Of course, the price of such a veranda will be more expensive than that one, the walls of which are covered with plywood or plastic, but the beauty you will get in the end is worth it.
• In the example we gave, the windows of the veranda are small and located high from the floor. But thanks to the light transmission of glass blocks, it is light on the veranda without additional lighting.

By the way, in this case, window openings could be made on the roof, in the manner skylights. In the construction of the walls of the veranda, you can combine both options mentioned above: one wall can be made of glass blocks, and the other two – from aluminum stained glass windows.

Cheaper classes of lining are A, B and C. All three classes are made of solid wood, so the material contains knots and minor defects. Potholes on such wood are usually filled in during the production process. The difference between classes of lining from each other lies in the permissible number of knots, potholes, resin pockets and cracks for a certain length. Class A lining is almost as good as “extra” class lining, but can be used for finishing on an open veranda. Class C lining is the most budget-friendly, but it will have the most defects, and therefore you should not expect durability from it.

The color of the lining directly depends on the type of wood from which it is made. Pine boards are amber in color, linden boards are pale beige, spruce boards are yellowish. The material is not subject to rotting, is resistant to temperature changes and exposure to UV rays, and if necessary, damaged areas can be easily replaced.

The lining must be treated with an antiseptic, and then it can serve you for up to 20 years.

PVC PANELS

An equally popular material for finishing veranda walls is PVC panels. The cost of the material is low, and the panels are quite simple to install. Caring for the coating is also easy: just periodically wipe the walls with a slightly damp sponge.

In addition to the budget cost, ease of installation and maintenance, the advantages of plastic panels include durability, resistance to high humidity and temperature changes. Thus, plastic will be an excellent solution for finishing both open and closed verandas.

The range of PVC panels is pleasingly diverse. There are panels that imitate wood, a natural stone, fabric or metal surface. In short, with the choice of the most suitable option there won't be any problems.

The panels are attached to the frame with screws or nails. In order for the surface to “breathe”, it is necessary to leave a gap of 2–3 cm between the ceiling and the wall.

There is perhaps only one disadvantage of the material – increased fragility. To avoid accidentally damaging the PVC panels, you should place the chairs and table on the veranda not close to the walls.

MDF PANELS

MDF panels are widely used in home improvement and gardening. You can use this material to decorate the walls of the veranda, but only for its closed version. The reason for this is that when moisture gets on the surface of an MDF panel, it becomes deformed and loses its quality.

The positive properties of the material include its strength, ease of installation and quite affordable cost.

DECORATIVE PLASTER

The choice of this type of finishing opens up wide design horizons: decorative plasters come in a wide variety of textures and colors, and they can also be used to create interesting reliefs using the application technique. In this case, you should take into account what type of veranda you need to select the material for: for a closed heated veranda, plaster is suitable for interior works, and for open or unheated it is worth choosing a material from the range of facade plasters.

Decorative plaster is easy to maintain and tolerates moisture, temperature changes and mechanical stress well. With its help, you can create many effects: plaster can perfectly imitate marble and any other stone, cork, wood and other materials.
