Why not save money for more important purchases ahead of the holidays? After all, there are several simple and interesting ways their own production.

Let's start preparing for the holiday together - and find out about best ideas creating and decorating New Year's candles with your own hands.

DIY New Year's candles, photo

Standard option: paraffin candles

Let's start from the very beginning simple way creating New Year's candles - a master class involving the use of paraffin blanks.

Chop or break regular paraffin candles into small pieces to remove the wicks. Collect the paraffin in a jar or other container where it can be melted (usually this is done in a water bath).

At the stage of preparing liquid paraffin, you can add the necessary dyes. remember, that the mixture should not be brought to a boil: after the paraffin has acquired a structure convenient for pouring into molds, this procedure can be stopped. It is advisable to use a container with a sharp spout: then it will be more convenient to pour the melted paraffin into the desired shape.

Advice: To make the candles more interesting, use molds in the form of stars, Christmas trees, snowmen and other elements on the theme of this holiday to pour paraffin.

Paraffin should be poured into the mold after it has cooled, having previously lubricated the bottom and walls vegetable oil, and also making a hole in the base in which the wick will be placed.

To ensure that when pouring paraffin it retains its location, initially select a thread or rope of great length - and secure it on the other side with a stick.

Have you made sure that the wick is in place and pulled out through the hole to a sufficient length? Then you can start filling. By the way, for this procedure you can prepare several containers with paraffin of different colors at once.

By successively adding liquids to the mold, you can make a bright candle, which will definitely emphasize the festive atmosphere on New Year's Eve.

After the paraffin has completely dried, the candle can be removed from the mold. The end of the wick, fixed at its base, is cut off.

Be careful not to damage or move the thread: It is likely that the internal structure of the candle will take much longer to dry than planned, so the wax will not be able to hold the wick inside. After complete drying, the candle can be decorated.

DIY soy candles

Instead of regular wax or paraffin, you can use a more environmentally friendly and quality material– soy wax. Such candles will retain their original shape longer; moreover, soy candles do not emit unpleasant odors upon combustion.

Making candles of this type yourself does not require special preparation, and the procedure does not take much time.

To create New Year's candles from soy wax, we will need the same materials that were used in the previous case.

Additionally, prepare essential oils, candle holders that match your design, and soy wax itself. You can prepare paint in bright colors.

Likewise standard process To create candles, prepare a water bath. Soy wax, which looks like flakes, is poured into a prepared container and mixed during the heating process. Once the wax is sufficiently melted, allow the liquid to cool for a couple of minutes.

As in the previous case, the wick is fixed in a candle mold. You can use more than just chopsticks small sizes, but also metal and other weighting agents that will not allow the wick to change its direction.

Advice: add to melted wax essential oil: then your candle will emit pleasant pine, floral, orange and other aromas.

Pour the wax into the mold and wait for it to dry completely. Once the candle has cooled, you can remove the weights used for the wick.

Before using such candles it is better wait at least one day: then the wax will finally set, and the candle can be decorated and lit.

New Year's candles based on helium

Another alternative to the usual compositions of decorative candles is a special gel-type wax: its difference from the others lies in its transparent structure, which means that you can implement more interesting ideas during the decorating process.

How to make decorative candles of this type? Again, very simple: if you noticed, store-bought gel candles have clear glass or plastic base. That is, it is enough to pour wax into such a mold - and the candle can already be used for its intended purpose.

Stages of creating helium New Year's candles:

  1. Over low heat or microwave oven the wax is melted to the desired state. It is important that the melted wax does not have lumps: a transparent candle with such defects will look sloppy.
  2. While the wax is still wet, you can add dyes, glitter, beads and other elements to it that can make the candle more suitable for the New Year's holiday.
  3. In a glass or other transparent container required sizes the wick is fixed. Pour the gel in smoothly so as not to knock down the wick, since this time it will be more difficult to maintain it in the desired direction.

You can pour the gel in several layers. New Year's candles with figures inserted inside on the corresponding theme look unusual. In order to place such details inside, prepare a wax base, secure the decorations - and proceed to the final filling.

The candle is ready, and again we just have to wait until the wax hardens. This time you need to leave it for one or two days, depending on the microclimate of the room in which you will store your homemade masterpieces.

Decorative candles from scrap materials for the New Year

As you have seen, any decorative candle for a holiday, regardless of the material used in its base, is created according to the same principle. But with the help additional materials Even an ordinary candle without bright details can be transformed beyond recognition.

We present to you three original way how to do beautiful candles with your own hands at no extra cost.

First idea - creating a candle inside an orange or lemon peel. Such candles will delight you with their natural brightness and pleasant fruity aroma.

Carefully remove the pulp from the selected fruit (first cut it in half): this can be done using a thin knife and spoon.

Both parts can be used as a candle base. You can leave them in their original form and fill them with wax according to the standard scheme, securing the wick.

Another way - giving the peel unusual shape, for example, imitation stars: If you can’t pour wax into the resulting mold, you can put a regular small candle in the base.

You can insert a candle into the whole half and cover it with a figured one, but in this case make sure that the wick will not reach the surface.

One more no less easy master class DIY New Year's candles related to using nut shells. It is better to use such candles in whole clusters, since they are small and in small quantities are not able to provide the desired lighting.

At the first stage, the shell is cleaned of excess entrails. The wick is then secured at the base: it will maintain its direction if you secure this element with a small stick connected to the boundaries of the shell.

Pour any type of wax inside: after drying, your candle will be ready for use.

Advice: Despite the fact that nut shells cannot be given any shape, you can make such candles stylish element New Year's decor. Before pouring wax, paint them in multi-colored shades, and also treat them with glitter or varnish with stars.

Your candle will look no less original if you build an imitation candlestick for it from ordinary wooden branches.

Collect in advance a certain number of even branches of the required width and height. If necessary, clear them of knots.

Advice: Instead of knots, you can use regular cinnamon: then the candle will emit a sweet smell.

On glass or other solid foundation Pull the elastic band in a standard shape: it is under it that the branches, left in their original form or repainted in other shades, will be attached.

To disguise the elastic, use rain, rope braid or ribbon with a bow. The festive candle is ready.

DIY candle decoration

Let's assume that you still have several ordinary candles intended for household use, or you purchased such sets in a store, but don’t know how to give them a formal appearance.

Several Yet simple ideas will help you create holiday candles that look as professional as store-bought ones.

There is nothing easier than decorating the surface of a candle with bright or shiny varnish, durable paint or patterns carved using sharp objects. By the way, in the latter case, you don’t have to resort to creating complex designs: for example, you can run a spiral over the entire surface of the candle and tie this part with a bright ribbon.

Advice: Do you want the cut out ornament to be smooth and neat? Prepare stencils in advance that can be used for several candles at once to adhere to a single design.

Particularly popular Decoupage of candles for the New Year. By the way, candles decorated in this way can cost much more than the usual store-bought options, so we recommend that you do not overpay, but decoupage the candles yourself.

Prepare small dried flowers or leaves in advance. Instead of natural decorations, you can use designs made on light fabric: holiday napkins are perfect.

Take a tablespoon or a teaspoon (depending on the size of the candle), heat it over the fire - and carefully rub it over the surface of the flower or design attached to the wax surface. This procedure will allow the decoration to stick to the walls of the candle.

Instead of a spoon, you can use other devices: for example, you can blow the picture with a hairdryer with warm air - and it will stick just as well.

Decoupage of candles, photo

Candles will look no less interesting, decorated with rain, beads, beads, berries or coffee beans, wrapped in foil, lace or bows. You can even adapt small spruce branches or bright glass parts left over from broken toys to the candle design.

Using transparent varnish, you can attach snowflakes, stars or other details pre-cut from white or colored paper to the surface.

When planning the decor of New Year's candles, think about the presentation itself: you can buy an antique candlestick or make it yourself original stand for candles

Often small candles are floated on water in a large transparent container: such a decoration can be placed in the center of the holiday table.

Another idea for New Year's decoration is to secure candles in a candlestick made of ice.

In addition to the presented photos of New Year's candles, you can make many more with your own hands. interesting options to decorate your home: show your imagination and involve your loved ones in this process.

Sometimes we want to bring a fairy tale into our home and decorate the interior in a special way. New Year's Eve - is it possible to find a more suitable time for this? Add some sparkles to the New Year 2020 in the form of a festive panel of candles.

Tradition of four

IN New Year holidays It is customary to decorate a house with four candles. This custom appeared because of Christmas, and not the New Year. In the period until December 25, Catholics observe something called. While it lasts, one new candle is lit every Sunday, resulting in exactly four of them. Their color is traditionally red, and the stand is decorated with spruce branches.

As a result of cultural mixing, today a panel of four candles can be seen in Orthodox Russia, and in Musuman Turkey. Compositions are made for the purpose of interior decoration.

You can make the fiery symbol of the New Year with your own hands - it’s even more interesting than buying ready-made decorated coasters. Find an example in a magazine that makes your eyes light up, arrange the decor in the same style or to your own taste. For your convenience, we will provide some tips on how to prepare such decoration for the holiday.

Candle fire

Large, tall New Year's candles look truly solemn. They should be given a solo part, set up in the living room. Place the composition in the center of the table, let the fire become the heart of the holiday.

Thin tall candles surrounded by gold balls and beads look elegant and delicate. And the figurine of an angel will add a touch of joy to the ensemble.

The composition can be performed by arranging the fire in a circle on a large plate, in a square or diagonally on. In the latter case, it turns out simple and beautiful at home. At the same time, instead of special stands, you can adapt an ordinary box, supplementing it with flowers in pots. Among the plants, thuja is perfect. This is a decorative coniferous analogue of spruce. A real plant always looks more advantageous than cut branches or simply artificial substitutes.

You can place cinnamon sticks, dried orange slices, walnuts and cookies on a Christmas plate with an Advent symbol. As a result, the holiday will turn out to be warm and family-friendly. Each nut from such a plate will be a hundred times tastier than its counterpart from the buffet.

Pine cones will be a traditional decoration for the New Year's panel. They can be used as the main decorative element, placed around wax decorations. And if you approach the issue like a real designer, you will get a work of art: place candles in a hanging basket, pine cones different sizes attach at the bottom. There will be a comic chandelier that looks more appropriate than a real one on New Year’s Eve.

Any New Year candle, as a dear guest, deserves special attention. You can, for example, create a separate composition for each candle by making. Subsequently, place these mini-foci next to or in different rooms. Even one candle can change the atmosphere in the house beyond recognition. It can be single, installed in glass vase, or complex, where several wicks are poured into one thick wax rod.

Modern technologies make it possible to produce New Year's candles that burn for a certain number of hours, do not melt, but slowly burn out. Increasingly, natural ingredients and flavors are used in products. This is a real gift for the owners of the house and a joy for their guests. Give your light with bright accessories. Happy New Year!

A real atmosphere of magic home comfort and it is impossible to create a charming fairy tale for the New Year without candles. This small decorative element remains a permanent attribute of any festive interior. You can make it more original and attractive by using your design skills and making candles with your own hands.

We bring to your attention useful master classes and tips on making and decorating candles with your own hands.

Master class 1. Quick and easy

In order to make classic version homemade candles, you will need the following:

  • Molds. They must be made of a material that does not absorb wax/paraffin. Rubber, metal, plastic or glass containers are ideal for this. You can use iron boxes (such as tin candy boxes) or thick plastic cups. Also keep in mind that if you still can’t get the candle out of the mold, you will have to break it or cut it.
  • Material. Candles can be made from paraffin, wax or stearin.
  • Wick. You can get it from factory candles melted in a steam bath or weave it yourself from any cotton threads.
  • Small metal container. This will be needed to melt the wax.
  • Tools. You will need pliers (or something similar to them in order to reach the hot container), tweezers and a thin wooden stick.
  • Foil. We will cover the table with it to protect it from fire or grease stains appearing on the surface.
  • Wooden stick. With its help we will mix the wax.
  • Pigments. They can be very different: wax-based crayons, leftover colored candles, decorative cosmetics, acrylic or gouache paints. You can buy colored pigments in specialized stores.
  • Baking soda. It is usually used to extinguish paraffin if it catches fire. So, we hope you won’t need it, but you still need to have it just in case.
  • Pot.

Have you collected everything you need? Then let's get started.

You can see a similar method in the video of making a multilayer candle with vertical colored layers.

In this case, a cardboard form is used. The good thing about this method is that it’s easy to find suitable milk or juice boxes for candles of different sizes.

If you made a single-color candle, then you can choose a different decor option. You can apply a layer of uncolored wax to the candle and attach glitter, beads, grains and other decorative elements to it.

More details about decor ideas are written at the end of this material.

Master class 2. Scented soy candles.

Soy candles are considered the most environmentally friendly, and they burn much longer than usual. They cost a lot and are considered an expensive pleasure, but making them yourself will cost you several times less.

For this we need:

  • Soy wax flakes (about 60 g per candle).
  • Wicks.
  • Dyes (optional).
  • Aromatic oil.
  • Glass containers for candles (you can clean old ones with hot water), cups or small pots.

After you have completed all the preparatory steps, you can safely start making candles:

You can make a classic, single-color version of the candle and decorate it as desired (more on that a little later).

Now see how you can cast colored, very beautiful soy candles from colored soy wax. The photographs clearly show the whole process.

Master class 3. Fashionable version of a candle decorated with decoupage

Decoupage on candles looks 100% advantageous! This is incredible beautiful decoration, which gives them a luxurious and sophisticated appearance. In addition, there can be a million design options, which makes each such product unique in its own way.

The technology of applying decoupage has a special specificity, and therefore it needs to be given special attention, introducing you closer to this popular art today.

When starting to create such an exclusive candle, you need to prepare the following:

  • Dried flowers (herbs) at your discretion.
  • Candle (you can make it yourself, based on the tips from the first and second master classes).
  • Spoon, tweezers and scissors
  • An ordinary candle (you will need it to heat the spoon).
  • Paraffin.
  • Empty tin can.

Feel like a jeweler. Why? Yes, because you will have to work with dried flowers very carefully and painstakingly. However, this task is not difficult, but interesting and requires perseverance.

All is ready? Then we begin our creative process:

If you have smoothed the dried flowers tightly, it will be enough to dip the candle in paraffin once. If not, then we do it again. After the coating has hardened, you can enjoy the fruits of your jewelry labors by placing it on the holiday table, home furniture or decorating the fireplace with it.

The theme will be complemented by a video of candle decoupage using napkins. And flowers are also present in the master class.

Master class 4: DIY gel candles

Such candles are considered super popular today, and therefore it is simply impossible to ignore them. So, we will need the following ingredients:

  • Gel wax (can be purchased in candle making kits).
  • Wick.
  • Aroma oils and dye (optional).
  • Insert (also at your discretion). It can be any non-flammable decorative material: pearls, shells, pebbles, dry fruits, coffee beans, etc.

And of course, you will need to choose a container for the candle. Most suitable option– glass cup, jar or glass.

The procedure for making such a candle is almost identical to those described above (see master class 1 and 2). However, it is necessary to take into account its specifics.

For example, the temperature when heating the gel should be about 93° C and no more, since overheated gel wax loses its transparency and elasticity. And one more thing: before placing the inserts in a container for the finished candle, they must first be dipped in the gel, and only then placed in the prepared container.

One of the options for making a gel candle is presented in next video. It shows how to work with the gel by heating it in a regular oven, placing pieces of gel filler and liners in a glass dish at the same time.

It will need to be crushed and added to the heated paraffin during the candle making process. When it melts and the candle hardens, its surface will resemble snow or porous ice.

  • Shells. They can also be added to paraffin during the melting process, or placed at the bottom of the container, and only then poured. By the way, you can decorate the candle container itself with shells.
  • Decoupage. The principle of its application was described in master class No. 3 (we will only add that you can also use special napkins for decoupage). Therefore, to inspire you to create such masterpieces, we will share with you several photo ideas for such decor.

The greatest opportunities for creativity are provided by manual creation of the very form of the product. You can make a wonderful New Year's candle. With your own hands (the master class will teach you how to do this), you can make either a simple single-color paraffin candle or a multi-colored item non-standard shape. Depending on the technology you choose, you will need different materials from the following list:

  • Paraffin shavings (ordinary household candles and cinders will do).
  • Ready-made wicks with metal weights (this is more convenient) or natural threads for making wicks.
  • Tablets of specialized dyes or ordinary ones for children's creativity.
  • Forms for pouring candles.
  • Container for melting wax.
  • A saucepan for creating a water bath.
  • Stick for mixing the composition.
  • Sticks, such as toothpicks, to secure the wick.
  • Scissors for trimming wicks.
  • Surface decor.

If you decide to make gel candles, then you need to purchase a special gel instead of paraffin, and also prepare non-flammable objects that are used to fill transparent molds with the gel (shells, pebbles, decorative figures).

How to make your own candle mold

Not only do you have the opportunity to create candles with your own hands, but you can also make the candles themselves of absolutely any configuration. You can get your own mold for pouring paraffin in the following ways:

  • Use boxes and various jars or containers, for example, from cream.
  • Roll paper into cones.
  • Use eggshells (if you blow out the contents first).
  • Make molds from orange peel.
  • Create Silicone forms with a plaster casing for finished products (plastic, ceramic, for example, figurines of snowmen or other winter and New Year characters and holiday attributes (Christmas tree).

DIY New Year's candles at home: choosing a design

As for the appearance, configuration, method and idea of designing the product, you can choose all this based on the available materials or, conversely, first come up with and draw a sketch (approximate appearance) of the future product, and then select everything necessary for work.

If you have a plastic figurine, for example, a snowman or a Christmas tree, and you want to make a candle using this template, work like this:

  1. Apply a layer of Vaseline, cream or oil to the surface of the workpiece. This will make it easier to remove the mold from the object later.
  2. Coat the figurine silicone sealant or glue. You can perform this operation in two stages, first obtaining the right half, then the left half with a dividing border. It is usually made perpendicular to the surface of the workpiece using plasticine.
  3. After the silicone has hardened, apply a layer of plaster consisting of two halves or more (depending on the complexity of the form).
  4. When the plaster has completely hardened (it is better to wait at least a few hours), separate the parts of the gypsum casing and remove them from the silicone blank;
  5. Open or cut (if made in one piece) the silicone shell and remove the original figure.
  6. Put everything back together. Don't forget to install the wick and additionally lubricate the inside of the pouring mold. This is especially important if the product configuration is complex.

Using the mold you have made, you can make both single-color and multi-color original New Year's candles with your own hands. The photographs clearly demonstrate what unusual candle configurations can be achieved using silicone molds.

Manufacturing technology

If you don't have the time or desire to create your forms like this in a complicated way, just take existing containers or, for example, roll cones out of thick paper. The following explains how to make your own New Year's candles from paraffin step by step. So, the work goes like this:

  1. Prepare the mold: roll the cone, take a plastic cup(or a juice box).
  2. The wick from the cone will come out of the candle from the narrow side; a cylindrical shape or other similar one can be poured so that the wick is located either below or above in relation to the place of pouring. As paraffin hardens, it shrinks, so a depression will form at the pouring site. To avoid such a groove around the wick on the top of the candle, you will have to either add paraffin during the hardening process, or install the wick so that the bottom of the candle is in this place.
  3. Taking into account the advice from the previous paragraph, install the wick so that its free edge, which will subsequently be set on fire, comes out from the bottom of the mold. For the cone: push it through the top and tape the hole shut. For the box: make a hole in the bottom (in the center - for one wick. Creative idea- use several, if the size of the candle allows). Pass the wick through the hole and tie a knot to prevent the paraffin from leaking out. You can add a little plasticine. It would be better to fill in small portions so that the bottom layer has time to harden a little and does not flow out under the pressure of the entire volume of the composition.
  4. Secure the wick using sticks placed on the top of the mold.
  5. Place the mold on a flat surface. For a cone, use a container with a diameter slightly smaller than the base or middle, depending on the height. For the box, you can use a stand with a hole in the center so that the knot made of wick does not interfere
  6. Melt the paraffin in a water bath, adding, if necessary, shavings of colored chalk or dye, stirring everything with a stick.
  7. Pour into the mold.
  8. Wait until it hardens completely (time depends on the size of the candle). It's better to wait a day.
  9. Remove the product from the mold.

All is ready. You can start finalizing.

Product decoration options

Even from single-color products, simple geometric shape You can get a spectacular New Year's composition with candles with your own hands, but you can decorate each candle individually.

The methods are similar to those used for purchased candles.
