Built-in wardrobe made of lining. How to make a cabinet from clapboard with your own hands

A do-it-yourself clapboard cabinet allows you to more rationally organize space in any room. It can be placed in a living room or on a balcony or loggia.

This piece of furniture can accommodate many things, and the external appearance of the product is quite attractive. The instructions offered in the article will tell you how to properly assemble a cabinet from lining.

Features of choosing material for the cabinet

Even inside very small rooms there are niches that can be adapted for rational use- arrange a closet in them. The most common material for cabinets is wood.

Its advantages:

  • High environmental friendliness.
  • Natural color.
  • Light weight.
  • Relatively low cost.
  • Availability of purchase.

However, inside small rooms wooden product may look bulky. The simplest way to create a structure that is truly pleasing in appearance is to use lining as the initial material for cladding.

The advantages of its use are:

  • Low price.
  • Durability.
  • Easy installation.
  • Natural naturalness.

Most often used for making cabinets:

  • Tree. This type of lining is in great demand; it looks more aesthetically pleasing than plastic.
  • Plastic.

A cabinet made of wooden or plastic lining is quite easy to assemble.

Advice: When purchasing material, you should not rush to take the first panels that catch your eye. They need to be examined very carefully.

Wooden lining is manufactured in four classes:

  • WITH. Panels of this class undergo minimal processing before being sold to the consumer. They may have knots, very small cracks, pits, which does not allow such lining to be used for interior decoration room and cabinet assembly.
  • "Extra".

Classes A, B and “Extra” have a more attractive appearance, but differ only in price.

Advice: When choosing a material for making a cabinet, you need to pay attention to these three classes, and purchase it based on your financial capabilities and preferences for the appearance of the assembled product.

The best materials for making lining are:

  • Duba.
  • Linden trees.
  • Ash.

They have the lowest resin content.

The volume of purchased material must be calculated in advance, based on the design of the cabinet.

For example:

  • The walls of the room can form the side walls for the cabinet. In this case, it is enough to buy material only for cladding the outer part, including the doors.
  • If a lining product is clearly visible from all sides, you will need to purchase a larger volume of material.

What tools will you need for the job?

To produce reliable and High Quality wardrobe, you will need to purchase:

  • Bars square section made of wood 40x40 millimeters, to create a frame.
  • Profile corners for assembling frame elements.
  • Small thickness boards or bars for making the base of cabinet doors.
  • Lining panels.
  • Chipboard sheets or regular boards for arranging shelves.
  • Anchor bolts for fastening the frame in the room opening.
  • Accessories: handles, door hinges.
  • Wood screws for fixing elements.
  • For installation of lining - clamps and nails.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Wood saw or electric jigsaw.
  • Locksmith's hammer.
  • A tape measure, three meters long.
  • Building level.

It is better to choose pine as a material for beams - there are no knots or cracks in it. The bars must be clean and dry, which will prevent the material from premature rotting.

After purchasing all the components, you can start making the cabinet.

How to make a frame

Work order:

  • The front and rear frame frames are assembled. For this:
  1. the beams are adjusted to the size of the room;
  2. connected by metal furniture corners using self-tapping screws.
  • A sheet of chipboard is attached as a wall.
  • The assembled structure is inserted into the opening and fixed with anchor bolts.
  • A selected number of shelves inside the product are mounted on the side surfaces perpendicular to the back wall.
  • The updated design is attached to the walls of the room with the same bolts.
  • The horizontality of the installed bars for the shelves is controlled.

How the frame is sheathed with clapboards, surfaces are treated

When the rear and side walls of the cabinet are invisible, the cladding consists of making doors. Depending on the preferences of the owner of the premises, their size and quantity are selected.

The door assembly procedure is as follows:

  • A thin board is sawn into pieces.
  • The parts are assembled into a frame.
  • An intermediate jumper bar is added diagonally, which increases the strength of the structure.
  • The frame is placed on the floor, and the lining is fastened to it with clamps or nails.

Tip: For the door, you should use the thinnest possible lining to ensure its lightness.

  • Inside, a platband is attached to the door, and outside- pen.
  • The door is hung on previously installed hinges.

If it is necessary to panel the side and rear walls, you will need:

  • Using a hacksaw or jigsaw, cut the material to the required dimensions.
  • Secure the paneling with nails or clamps.
  • Small nails are driven into the groove of the first panel at an angle.
  • The subsequent sheets of lining are also attached.
  • For a more aesthetic appearance, the panels should be fixed to the frame with clamps. They provide reliable connection, but will be invisible to the eye.
  • When the operations are carried out correctly, the final product acquires a beautiful appearance as shown in the photo.

  • To increase service life and add additional decoration, the cabinet is processed by special means. This can be a protective varnish for wood (see).

The video in this article shows all operations in more detail.

Features of covering the cabinet frame with plastic panels

The plastic lining used to make the cabinet is attached in the same way as wood. But the material has one feature: the panels can only be connected using clamps. The use of nails or self-tapping screws can damage the integrity of the material if the movement is awkward or the force is sufficiently large. Besides plastic lining It is recommended to sheathe a cabinet only by people who have experience in performing such work.

It’s not difficult to create a cabinet out of lining with your own hands, you just need to follow certain rules and control the quality of work. Quite simple operations allow you to get a piece of furniture that can accommodate many things that are used occasionally.

A small financial investment allows you to create a real work of art, for a long time such a cabinet will cause admiration.

A closet is often installed on the balcony to store things for which there is not enough space in the apartment. On a closed glazed balcony, lined with clapboard from the inside, a cabinet made from clapboard will look harmonious; this material also goes well with other finishing options. Find ready-made furniture, which will fit into the space of the balcony, is difficult, so many owners are interested in how to make a cabinet from lining themselves.

Design and location options

If there is a niche without glazing at the end of the balcony, this is perfect place for cabinet installation. Depending on the size and shape of the balcony, it may be more convenient to make a corner or wall cabinet. Based on the size and available free space, you can equip the structure with doors different types. The following options are best suited for a balcony:

  • single or double leaf with hinged doors;
  • with sliding doors.

There are 2 design options balcony cabinet:

  • built-in;
  • hull

The first option allows you to rationally use all available space, reduce the consumption of materials (you only need timber for the frame, boards for shelves and lining for doors). But it is only suitable for balconies where there is an unglazed area and 3 (for corner cabinet- 2) strong walls on which the frame can be mounted. As an option, you can make a built-in cabinet up to the level of the glazing. A cabinet cabinet will require more materials, but if necessary, it can be moved to another location.

It’s worth making a balcony cabinet out of clapboard only if the glazing and thermal insulation are done, all the cracks are sealed, and the floor is repaired. Otherwise, unfavorable atmospheric influences, temperature changes, and humidity will quickly cause the structure to fail. wooden lining into disrepair.

Materials and tools

To make a cabinet on the balcony from clapboard with your own hands wood will do deciduous trees (conifers emit resin, which can stain things stored in the closet, and resin deposits on the facade look unaesthetic). You need to choose class “B” lining, and if finances allow, “A”. The “Extra” class for a balcony is an unjustified luxury, and the “C” class lining has too many defects and is only suitable for rough cladding.

In addition to wooden lining for cabinet cladding, you can use plastic. Nails or self-tapping screws are not suitable for fastening it, only clamps or a stapler with staples.

Having decided on the design and dimensions of the cabinet, you can calculate how much material is needed. For a built-in wardrobe you will need:

  • timber 40x40 for the frame - 4 elements each, equal to height, width and depth of the cabinet, plus 2 transverse elements (guides) for each shelf;
  • a beam of a smaller section (for example, 20x25) or a thin board for the door frame, for each door there are 4 elements for the frame plus 1 for the transverse or diagonal stiffener;
  • thin lining for covering doors, the length of the slats should be equal to the height of the cabinet, and to calculate the quantity you need to divide its width by the useful width of one plank, which is then rounded up;
  • boards or chipboard for shelves, you can also use thicker lining;
  • long anchors for attaching the frame to the walls;
  • wood screws 60-75 mm long or metal corners, self-tapping screws of shorter length for assembling the frame;
  • nails with small heads for fastening the paneling in a hidden way (you can also use self-tapping screws, clamps or staples);
  • door hinges, handles.

Clippers are more expensive than nails, but they are much more convenient to use and allow you to make the fastening of the lining invisible.

To make a cabinet cabinet with your own hands from lining, you will need more of it to cover the side walls, the lid and, possibly, the bottom. The back wall is made from a sheet of laminated fiberboard. If desired, you can make a back wall in the built-in closet; it will provide additional protection for the structure and contents of the closet from dampness.

The tools you will need are a tape measure, a square, a level and a marking pencil, as well as:

  • drill or hammer drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • saw;
  • hammer and hammer.

Assembly order

After the timber and lining are sawn into elements the right size, you can start assembling. Assembling a built-in wardrobe on a balcony with your own hands begins with the frame, and ends with cladding and hanging the doors:

  1. The rear and front frames of the frame are assembled, the timber is connected using angles or self-tapping screws of sufficient length.
  2. The back wall is attached (if available).
  3. The rear frame is attached with anchors to the end wall of the balcony, the horizontal and vertical positions of the elements are verified with a level.
  4. The cross bars are attached using angles to the corners of the frame and fixed with anchors to the side walls.
  5. The front frame is attached to the ends of the cross beams and secured with anchors to the side walls, floor and ceiling.
  6. From below you can lay the bottom of chipboard or moisture-resistant plywood.
  7. TO inside The frame racks at the required height are fixed parallel to the side walls with guides for the shelves. You need to make sure that they are located at the same height on the left and right.
  8. When installing shelves, you must first select corners for the racks in boards or slabs. It is not necessary to attach chipboard shelves to the guides; it is better to secure the boards with self-tapping screws.

Interior the cabinet is ready. In principle, you can stop there, but this design is more of a shelving unit than a cabinet. To make a cabinet out of lining with your own hands, you need to add doors to this design.

  1. The frame(s) of the door(s) are assembled by analogy with the frame frames, only you need to additionally mount a diagonal or transverse beam into each one as a stiffener.
  2. The frames are sheathed with clapboard, the nails are driven at an angle into the groove, the caps are recessed using a hammer, then the next panel is inserted into the groove with a comb and the procedure is repeated.
  3. Door hinges are attached to the front pillars of the frame.
  4. The doors are equipped with fittings and hung on the frame.

If the cabinet is low or divided into 2 tiers in height, and each has its own doors, their design can be simplified and lightened by securing the lining to 2-3 transverse bars (boards).

The assembly of a cabinet cabinet is different in that the completed frame is covered with clapboard on the sides and top; plywood or chipboard can be used for the bottom, and fiberboard for the back wall. The frame is not anchored to the walls of the balcony, so the structure itself needs to be made more rigid and a cross member added to the rear frame. For the side walls, additional stiffening ribs will serve as shelf guides.

All that remains is to varnish your cabinet to make it more attractive and extend its service life. Before starting varnishing, you need to remove everything unnecessary, sweep, or better yet, vacuum the balcony so that dust does not stick to the fresh varnish.

A built-in wardrobe with clapboard doors can be assembled quickly, is inexpensive, and looks very attractive. So it’s worth spending a little time, effort and materials so that new item furniture.

Handmade cabinets are most often used to store things. Many people believe that making a cabinet with their own hands is very difficult and only people who have special skills can do it. In fact, you need to follow the advice of experts, then everything will definitely work out. And there is nothing difficult about making furniture with your own hands from lining without much difficulty.

Wardrobe frames made of lining.

To make a cabinet from lining you need to purchase the following materials:

  1. For the frame you will need wooden beams measuring 40 by 40 mm. For the sake of economy, it is recommended to purchase pine beams, but you need to ensure that they are perfectly dry, clean, and no signs of rotting are allowed.
  2. To connect, you need to use metal corners.
  3. To make the door frame you will need boards or beams (thin).
  4. For cladding work you will need lining, which is also necessary for doors.
  5. As a material for making shelves, you can use boards or thick chipboard sheets.
  6. Handles, hinges, and locks must be used for cabinet fittings.
  7. For fasteners, you need to stock up on wood screws, nails and lining clamps.

As for the list of tools, it looks like this:

  1. A screwdriver that must be equipped with a magnetic attachment.
  2. Reciprocating saw, you can use a circular saw.
  3. Construction level, tape measure.
  4. Hammer.

Before making a cabinet from lining, you need to carefully consider the choice of material.

Scheme of fixing the lining.

Wood lining made from those types of wood that contain no a large number of resins, in this regard it is necessary to note oak, linden and ash. If we talk about the class of lining, then the higher it is, the more attractive the appearance will be. It all depends on financial capabilities. There is no need to buy class lining, which is technical and not suitable for making furniture.

Regarding volume required material, then it all depends on what kind of design is planned. If you plan to use the walls of the room as a wall, then the lining will only be needed to cover the doors. For the back of the cabinet, it is recommended to use laminated fiberboard, which is durable and strong.

How is the frame installed?

Types of lining.

The lining cabinet should be mounted on a wooden frame. The frame is performed in the following sequence:

  1. First you need to assemble the front and rear frames, which involves connecting beams 1.5 and 1.8 m long; metal frames are used for this.
  2. You can lay plywood on the floor; it acts as the bottom of the cabinet. The beams can be connected without the use of corners; for this you need to use self-tapping screws, the length of which is 60-75 mm.
  3. The rear wall of the cabinet, which is made from laminated chipboard.
  4. The rear frame with the wall is placed against the rear wall, then fixed with anchors; they must be level.
  5. Inside the cabinet, you need to install guides, on which the shelves should then be laid.

Do-it-yourself lining of a lining cabinet

Cabinet dimensions.

Covering a cabinet with clapboard most often involves making doors that are attractive in appearance. This is done as follows:

  1. You need to take a board (it is strongly recommended to use the thinnest possible board) and assemble a frame of appropriate dimensions from it.
  2. In order to achieve the required rigidity, you need to add a jumper to the frame (it has the shape of a rectangle) (it is transverse, but you can also make it diagonal).
  3. The frame is laid on the floor, a lining cut to the appropriate size is applied to it, all this is secured with nails. It is recommended to use lining that is as thin as possible, then you don’t have to worry about the door being very heavy. After the cladding work has come to an end, decorative trims should be attached to its door, and with reverse side the handle is attached.

The final touch when making furniture is its varnishing. The cabinet must be coated with a protective varnish, thus not only improving the appearance, but also significantly extending its service life.

Thus it turns out quality furniture, made from lining yourself. And despite the fact that the manufacture of such furniture is not difficult, it is not only capable of accommodating a large number of different things, but will also serve as an excellent interior decoration. And there is no doubt that all friends, relatives and acquaintances will admire such a work of art!

When starting to renovate a balcony or loggia, many plan to equip this room in such a way that it can store things that are used quite rarely (such as garden tools or sports equipment). And the easiest way to arrange this is to make a cabinet out of clapboard on the balcony with your own hands.

We ensure the durability of the cabinet

As a rule, a cabinet on a balcony or loggia is installed in a niche specially designed for this purpose - as shown in the photo.

Moreover, if we want the cabinet to last a long time, it is necessary to do something on the balcony itself before starting work:

  • It makes sense to install a high-quality lining cabinet only on a glazed balcony. Otherwise, under the influence of precipitation, the tree will not “live” even a couple of seasons.
  • Before installing the cabinet, you need to repair the floor of the balcony - especially where the bottom will be located.
  • The absence of temperature changes can also significantly extend the life of the cabinet. To do this, we carefully putty all the cracks on the balcony, and then insulate it.

When this " minimum required» done - you can start making the cabinet itself. Instructions for its manufacture, as well as some useful tips are given in the next section.

Making a cabinet

Tools and materials

To make a wardrobe for a balcony from lining, we will need the following materials:

  • Wooden beams 40x40 mm for the cabinet frame. In order to save money, you can take pine beams (it’s still not visible!), but the wood must be dry, clean, without signs of rot and woodworms.
  • Metal corners for connection.
  • Boards or thinner beams for the frame of cabinet doors.
  • Lining for cabinet cladding, as well as for making doors.
  • The material for the shelves is boards or fairly thick sheets of chipboard.
  • Cabinet fittings - lock, handles, hinges, latches, etc.
  • Fasteners – wood screws, nails and clamps for lining.

Note!
If you are planning to make a built-in closet from clapboard on the balcony (i.e. a closet whose rear and side walls are the walls of the balcony), then you will need quite long anchors to attach the frame to the walls.

As for the tools, we don’t need any complex devices.

An approximate list of devices will be as follows:

  • Hammer or impact drill;
  • Screwdriver with magnetic attachment;
  • Circular or reciprocating saw;
  • Hammer;
  • Level and roulette,

Selection and calculation of materials

The main task facing us at this stage will be the choice of lining. To make a cabinet, it is advisable to take lining from non-resinous wood - oak, ash, linden, etc.

As for the lining class, the higher it is, the better the appearance of your cabinet will be. So here you can be guided solely by your purchasing power, because the price of the lining is directly proportional to its quality.

Note!
Class C lining is technical and is not suitable for either interior or built-in furniture.

The next step is to determine the volume of purchases. Below we will give an example of calculating materials for the manufacture of a built-in wardrobe with a depth of 0.5 m, a width of 1.5 m and a height of 1.8 m.

We calculate the frame according to the following scheme:

  • Bottom frame: 2x0.5 +2x1.5 = 4 m/linear.
  • Upper frame: 2x0.5 + 2x1.5 = 4 m/linear.
  • Vertical posts: 4x1.8 = 7.2 m/linear.

In our case, it would be optimal to take 8 bars, each 2 m long: 4 will go to vertical racks with minimal waste, and we will use another 4 on the upper and lower frames without any waste at all.

As for the lining, the volume of material here depends on what design our cabinet will have. If the side walls of the cabinet will protrude from the walls of the loggia, then we will need the lining exclusively for covering the doors.

Note!
In any case, the back wall of the cabinet should be made of laminated fiberboard. This material is moisture resistant and therefore more durable.

Frame installation

The cabinet on the balcony made of lining is mounted on the basis wooden frame. To get the most complete idea about assembling the frame, we recommend that you carefully study the video attached to this article.

We assemble the frame in the following sequence:

  • At the first stage, we assemble the front and back frame of the cabinet. To do this, we connect 1.5 and 1.8 m beams using metal corners.
  • If you wish, you can lay an OSB board or thick plywood on the floor - it will act as the bottom of the cabinet.

Note!
You can connect the frame beams without corners, but for this you will need self-tapping screws 60-75 mm long.

  • We attach the back wall of the cabinet made of laminated chipboard to the rear frame using self-tapping screws or a construction stapler.
  • We place the rear frame with the wall against the rear wall and fix it with anchors, having previously leveled it.
  • We attach 0.5 m beams to the installed frame. We fix the beams with anchors.
  • We attach the front frame to the ends of the beams. To give the entire structure rigidity, we secure the front frame with anchors to the walls, floor and ceiling.
  • Inside the cabinet we install guides on which we lay the shelves.

The frame is ready. All that remains is to cover our closet with clapboard.

Lining the cabinet with clapboard

In most cases it consists of making beautiful doors from this material. We will tell you below how to make a lining door onto a closet.

The optimal way to make a door is to cover a wooden frame with clapboard:

  • We assemble a frame from a fairly thin board, the dimensions of which correspond to the dimensions of the future door.
  • To increase rigidity, add a transverse or diagonal jumper to the rectangular frame.
  • Having laid the frame on the floor, we apply a lining cut to size to it, and fasten it with nails, driving them “into the secret place.”

Advice!
To make a door, it is better to choose the thinnest possible lining - otherwise the cabinet door will be very heavy.

  • , we attach decorative trims, a handle, and loops on the wrong side.

When the sashes are ready, we hang them on hinges pre-attached to the cabinet frame.

Well finishing touch What we need to do when building a cabinet on the balcony with our own hands from clapboard is its varnishing. We coat the cabinet with a protective varnish to extend its service life.

A high-quality lining cabinet for a balcony - despite the simplicity of its manufacture - can not only become a convenient container for a variety of things, but also a real decoration for the balcony. So it's worth trying!

To make the most of your apartment’s space without cluttering the space with unnecessary things, you should mount a closet on the balcony. In the photo selection of the article, you can find the most suitable option, and also understand how to beautifully make furniture with your own hands.
