Where to ride in Vorokhta

Since Soviet times, Vorokhta has been considered a ski resort for extreme sports enthusiasts. However, today this is not true: the jumping hills, which used to be the training base for Olympic athletes, are in disrepair (abandoned) and are used as a backdrop for photographs or a reference point for drivers. Since 2012, there has been only one small ski slope with a length of 300 meters. And it is not in great demand - experienced skiers prefer to go to Bukovel, located 10 kilometers away.

But for beginners and those who are just starting to ski or snowboard, as well as for children, Vorokhta has everything they need.

There is a ski school here, where beginners are taught by instructors, not by enthusiastic amateurs who have recently started skiing themselves. Secondly, there is a special training track with a multi-lift for beginners and children. The track is small and not steep, so beginner skiers can even climb it on their own, without a lift, if they wish.

Unlike Slavskoye, where there are also gentle slopes for beginners, in Vorokhta the slopes operate regardless of weather conditions due to the presence of artificial snow, the lifts (tow rope and multi-lift) are brand new, and the snowcat provides smooth slopes.

Ski equipment can be rented in the village - there are rental points on every corner and prices are lower than rentals near the slopes. In addition to skiing and snowboarding, in Vorokhta you can try other methods of recreational descent from the mountains. For example, there is a separate track for descending in inflatable rubber “buns”, with the loud name “snow tubing”.

Where to live

Choosing housing in Vorokhta quite large: accommodation services are offered by both small private estates and large complexes and recreation centers.

You can stay closest to the ski lifts and relatively inexpensively at the Avangard base. This tourist complex has been operating since Soviet times, but it has been renovated. True, the low prices are compensated by the fact that tourists here are treated without much hospitality. So if you want to check into your room on time and have everything in it that was promised to you when booking, be prepared to actively insist on this.

The cost of a double room after the New Year holidays (from January 15) in Vorokhta ranges from 200 hryvnia (economy room with shared amenities) to 500 hryvnia (two-room suite). In hotels located near the ski lifts, you can find accommodation at prices starting from 450 hryvnia per day. You can find cheaper housing in the private sector of the village.

Ukraine, ski resort Vorokhta

This village in the upper reaches of the Prut River is one of the most popular winter resorts in Ukraine. Moreover, the resort is a patriarch.

Vorokhta began to develop as a skiing center at the end of 1894, thanks to the railway and... the Austrian army. The soldiers built conscientiously, and the viaducts that have survived to this day are a real engineering miracle. The military also erected the largest stone railway bridge in the Carpathians in these places.

Having completed construction at the beginning of the last century, Austrian military personnel began to learn skiing in Vorokhta. Then the World War broke out, then the revolution...

Only at the end of 1927 did they pay attention to the village again. Vorokhta is becoming a very popular resort town. Comfortable wooden villas are being built here, which are still the hallmark of the resort today, and the first boarding houses are being built. In the 60s, when Krasnaya Polyana saw its hotels only on architects’ plans, the sports base “Ukraine” appeared, where athletes of Soviet national teams trained. And this despite the fact that Vorokhta is located very low - only 850 meters above sea level.

The ski slopes here are gentle (a beginner's dream!), and there are only three permanent lifts: two rope tows and one chairlift. When there is a large influx of skiers, two more drag ropes, one hundred meters long, are turned on. There is a rental of skis and ski equipment at a very affordable price.

As for “advanced” skiers, they appreciate Vorokhta for its comfort, beauty and convenient location. After all, from here you can easily get to Yaremche, Yablunytsia and Bukovel. Those wishing to relax in Vorokhta can stay in numerous hotels, camp sites and private cottages. The Ruslana Hut complex is especially popular.

For professional athletes, Vorokhta serves as an excellent training base with excellent ski jumps, two of which have a special Finnish coating, one with ceramic. You won’t see this even during tours to Dombay.

Fifteen kilometers from Vorokhta is Goverla. Winter mountain hikes are regularly organized for lovers of this highest mountain in Ukraine.

So, all kinds of guests come here. And the owners make considerable efforts to ensure that everyone who comes comes back to Vorokhta.
