List of institutes with a military department. Universities with military departments

The year 2008 became a kind of “starting” point for the Russian army. We will not delve into the specifics of the difficult situation of the 90s, when our army was going through quite difficult times. This era is far gone, and about a dozen years have passed since the restructuring and reform of the army.

Let us note that the reform that is currently being implemented was not immediately implemented. There are also known not entirely successful attempts, innovations, and strategies. If we talk about the global army reformatting program, it began in 2012, when the post of Minister of Defense was taken by S.K. Shoigu, but it was in 2008 that the course was taken to modernize the Russian armed forces.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation presented to the public a list of universities in which military departments were planned to be retained. In parallel with this, the idea of creating military training centers appeared. As a result, 35 universities could count on the fact that departments would function without changes, and training centers would appear in another 35 institutions. To be precise, centers will not appear without a certain base. It’s just that some existing departments will be reorganized.

The difference between a military department and a training center

We are currently living at a turning point. The President of the Russian Federation has already signed a decree that talks about the complete restructuring of military departments and the creation of training centers, but for now information about 35 universities in which military departments operate remains relevant. Here are a number of differences between the department and the training center.

The military department in universities is represented by a separate faculty, in which only students of a given university who are mastering the main educational programs full-time can study. The purpose of creating such a faculty is to train officers who will subsequently remain in the reserves. These personnel are recruited only during combat operations. A graduate of an educational institution, upon successful completion and completion of a military training course after passing military training, is sent to the reserve with the rank of lieutenant.

A training center is also being formed at a university of federal status. It trains full-time students from this university, but after graduation, the graduate is sent to serve under a contract in the troops and formations of the Armed Forces, they are appointed to officer positions. The essence of the difference is that if a citizen chooses an institute and parallel study of a military discipline, then after graduating from the training center he is obliged to serve in the army under a contract.

Despite these differences, institutes with a military department and training centers implement the same tasks.

  • Implementation of a program aimed at pre-conscription training. Mastering such a program implies obtaining a military specialty.
  • Educational tasks boil down to propaganda and military orientation of the younger generation, instilling patriotism.

If the age limit for training is not 30 years, then citizens enter the training center at the age of up to 24 years.

The course program, which is implemented by a higher education institution with a military department, is designed for 450 hours of theory and 144 hours of practice in the form of military training. Often the course material is based on the basic knowledge that students receive when mastering the main university programs. In addition to the material on the military specialty, students are engaged in mastering general skills and knowledge, such as combat and fire training, issues of tactics and strategy, and weapons design.

Training in training centers is carried out in a more thorough manner. The total number of hours provided for theory and practice is 1500. During the training process, the student receives a stipend bonus, which varies from 15 to 25%. Military uniforms are also purchased using budget funds allocated by the Ministry of Defense.

Many young guys who want to get a higher education are advised by their parents and older comrades to choose a university that has a military department.

They explain this simply: studying at a military department allows you to avoid compulsory conscription into the army as an ordinary soldier. It’s not easy to get into such a university; the competition for it is usually higher than for universities without a military department, and the majority of applicants are boys of military age.

Is it worth overcoming obstacles to get into the military department of a university, or is there no point in military education?

What is a military department at a university?

The tradition of military training in higher education has existed in our country for almost a century. The first military departments, which were called higher pre-conscription training courses, appeared in universities and technical schools of the USSR in 1926. They had to solve the most important task - to prepare a sufficient number of military-trained junior commanders for the army.

Students were provided with 180 hours of theoretical military training, after which they were taken to a military camp for two months. After graduating from university, they had to serve in the army for 9 months, after which they were included in the junior and middle command corps of the reserve.

The practice of military training of students became stronger after the end of the Great Patriotic War. The number of universities with military departments has increased significantly, as war experience has shown the effectiveness of this system for training educated junior commanders. After the collapse of the USSR, during the years when the state did not pay due attention to the army, the military department was abolished in many educational institutions, and today there are only 35 universities in the country.

Another 33 educational institutions have opened military training centers (MTC). Upon completion of their studies, graduates become junior reserve officers and are not subject to regular conscription into the army.

Study at the military department

Even if there is a military department at a university, not all students can obtain a military specialty. Admission to the department is open only to men no older than 30 years old who have no contraindications for health reasons. Training at the military department begins in the third year. To obtain the right to it, the student must first undergo a medical examination at the military registration and enlistment office, and then submit to the military department:

- medical certificate from the military registration and enlistment office;

— photocopies of the relevant pages of the passport;

— your grade book;

- a certificate from the dean’s office certifying that he is studying at this university.

The training combines theoretical training, which is conducted in the format of regular lectures, with practice - the study of drill training, weapons, fire training and the study of military equipment. The training period giving the right to the officer rank is 30 months, to the sergeant rank - 24 months. A graduate of the military department can leave the university as a private reserve if he has completed the appropriate 18-month course of study.

The final part of the study is military training, which lasts a month and takes place in a specially designated area. Upon completion, students pass the state exam and take the oath, after which they become reserve lieutenants.

What does studying at the military department provide?

Having received the rank of junior officer after military training, a university graduate does not have to worry that he will be drafted into the army for military service - this will not happen. Five years after graduating from university, he may be called up for a military retraining course, which lasts no more than two months. Those who pass this training are awarded the rank of senior lieutenant and again sent to the reserve.

If a graduate feels drawn to military service, he can enlist in the army under a contract, where he will immediately receive an officer position. This immediately guarantees a good salary and opens up the prospect of a future military career. In the modern Russian army there are many branches of the military that require educated, technically competent officers.
