What adhesive mixtures are used?

The adhesive on the market for parquet on concrete screed differs in composition and characteristics. The following varieties are distinguished:

1. Dispersive.
2. Solvent based.
3. Reactive hardening.

Dispersion compositions are distinguished by their affordable price and high hardening speed. This adhesive option is not suitable for laying parquet boards or block parquet with exotic wood. But for classic options- beech and oak - quite.

You cannot treat the surface of a parquet floor immediately after installing it with glue.

Reactive hardening adhesive is the most modern version, is expensive and is created on the basis of one-component or two-component polyurethane glue. The mixture is suitable for installing both parquet boards and parquet, regardless of the type of wood. You can proceed to final surface treatment after two days.

How to properly attach a board to a screed with glue

In order for laying parquet boards with glue to meet expectations not only in terms of the aesthetics of the finished coating, but also in terms of practicality, durability and functionality, you must follow the installation rules.

In addition, before starting work, it is necessary to calculate the amount of material for the flooring, assuming a small reserve in advance. The minimum reserve is considered to be 3% of the parquet board and this is when using simple option laying - deck. Before installation, the material is delivered to the site at least 2 days in advance, without unpacking, giving the tree time to adapt to the new conditions.

• adhesive sealant;

The installation process is carried out in the following order (consider the option of laying on plywood):

1. A layer of glue is applied to the concrete screed (must be dry, clean and level) with a spatula, after which sheets of plywood are laid, additionally securing them with screws at 32 points, moving from the center.
2. The installation of the sheets is carried out staggered, filling the voids with sealant and not forgetting about the 5 mm gap at the walls.
3. The first row of parquet boards is glued using restrictive wedges. Optimal size gaps - 10 mm from the wall.
4. The adhesive mixture is re-applied to the plywood base and the ends of the parquet board, gluing them together and additionally securing them with nails.
5. To achieve maximum adhesion, the boards are pressed to the floor with maximum force, and excess glue is carefully removed with a dry rag.
6. Each subsequent row is shifted relative to the previous one by half the board.
7. Using a level, check the evenness of the laid surface.

After installation is completed, the floor is left for the period recommended by the manufacturer of the adhesive used in the process. Only after the coating has been thoroughly strengthened do they proceed to sanding it, treating it with oil or varnish and other manipulations at the final stage of installing the floor.

Laying parquet using the deck method

Installation method without plywood - features

It is not always necessary to glue parquet onto a screed using a layer of plywood. The boards can be attached directly to the concrete base. Naturally, it must be completely ready to carry out such work:

• perfectly smooth;
• clean;
• dry;
• no elevation changes.

The dies are attached using the same glue, but this time the stage of priming the base becomes mandatory. The planks are laid out (the first two rows are enough) in the order in which they will be mounted, after which the base is treated with glue using a notched trowel prepared in advance. The first board is fixed with a gap of 6-12 mm from the wall. Next, using a tamping block, secure the next one, pressing it tightly to the floor.

As soon as the first row of parquet boards is laid, the last block is trimmed, starting the next row. During the installation process, constantly use a level to control the evenness of the surface, making sure that no gaps form between the dies or rows. After finishing the work, the seams are processed acrylic sealant and leave the floor for a period of two to five days (depending on the adhesive used) before sanding begins.

Laying parquet - a method without plywood

Block parquet, just like boards, can be attached directly to a prepared concrete base without a plywood backing. In this case, you will be able to save time, money and effort, since you will need half as much glue and fasteners.

Why was the technology of laying parquet and boards on plywood sheets developed? Its roots go back to Soviet times, when in most standard apartments the base of the floor was built on wooden joists and wooden floors with bitumen backfill and hardboard on top.

Since then, decades have passed and the base has been transformed into a sand-cement screed with a layer of fixed plywood. With the advent of truly strong and reliable adhesive mixtures, it became possible installation parquet directly onto the screed without plywood.

Considering that the material has small sizes and ideal geometry, the laying of block parquet is carried out without any particular difficulties and defects in the form of cracks and gaps. One way or another, regardless of the chosen method of attaching a parquet board or piece parquet, you need to remember that natural wood requires compliance with the temperature and humidity conditions in the room. Neglecting these requirements will lead to a violation of its performance characteristics, and even the strongest glue together with nails will not save the situation.

Parquet boards are usually laid using a floating method, which is more technologically advanced and easier to implement. But if you need to ensure the maximum rigidity of the coating or the floor area is too large, it is better to install it with glue. An important condition for installation is the correct choice of adhesive composition, otherwise there is a risk of hopelessly damaging expensive coverage.

What kind of glue should be used for parquet boards and how to avoid mistakes when installing using the adhesive method?

Like any wood, parquet boards are prone to deformation, although to a lesser extent than ordinary plank floors. To ensure that such a coating does not deform after installation and lasts as long as possible, the adhesive must meet certain requirements:

• low water content– excess moisture leads to swelling of the lamellas, the formation of waves on the floor surface, and warping of the face layer. After drying, such material does not always restore its original shape and in some cases the floor has to be repaired or even replaced completely. So, the less water in the composition, the better the styling will be;
• minimal shrinkage– if the thickness of the adhesive layer decreases significantly after drying, this will disrupt the flatness of the coating, gaps will form between the slats, and the floor will begin to emit unpleasant creaks underfoot;
• elasticity– under the influence of humidity and temperature changes, the parquet board increases or decreases in size, and adhesive layer must provide the necessary mobility of the slats. If the glue does not have such qualities, at the first thermal expansion the coating may swell in waves;
• durability– the service life of the adhesive must correspond to the service life of the parquet board, which is very long. If the boards begin to peel off ahead of time, restoration of the coating will not be cheap, and it is not always possible to select new slats that are identical in color and pattern;
• compliance with sanitary standards– the use of adhesive mixtures with harmful additives carries risks for human health, especially if the coating is laid in a residential area.

In addition, the glue should be easy to apply, dry quickly, and have high adhesive properties to various types grounds. It is important that it does not leave stains if it accidentally gets on the front surface of the planks and is cleaned off without much effort.

Types of adhesives

All adhesives produced for parquet flooring are divided into two groups. The first group includes one-component compositions - aqueous dispersions and solvent-based adhesives. The second group is two-component mixtures consisting of a base and a hardener, which must be mixed before laying the coating.

One-component

These compounds are sold completely ready for use, which reduces installation time. It's practical and relatively inexpensive option, which is excellent for residential premises. Depending on the basis of the composition, one-component adhesives have significant differences in characteristics.

Dispersion composition. Water-soluble adhesive containing cellulose acid or acrylic. It contains no toxic components or solvents, making it considered the safest for use in residential areas. This glue does not have a strong odor, is easy to apply and just as easy to clean when it gets on front layer coverings or walls. At the same time, its scope of application is quite limited due to the presence of water in the composition. Dispersion adhesive can only be used on absorbent substrates and only for coatings made of moisture-resistant wood, for example, larch, oak, merbau, teak. Less dense rocks are saturated with moisture from the glue, swell, and change color.

Dispersions should not be used in unheated rooms, as well as in conditions high humidity– freezing and dampness reduce the strength of the adhesive layer, and the coating peels off. This type of glue is not suitable for rooms with high loads, since it has no high strength to the break.

Solvent based adhesives. These are anhydrous formulations containing rubber, MS polymers or artificial resins. They are excellent for wood coverings because they do not cause warping of the material, and can be used on a variety of substrates, including non-absorbent ones. The adhesive layer provides reliable adhesion of working surfaces, high resistance to mechanical loads and other influences. Thanks to the increased elasticity of the adhesive, the coating perfectly withstands sudden fluctuations in temperature and humidity, maintaining an ideal flatness.

Due to the presence of solvents, these adhesives are flammable substances, so installation should not be carried out near open sources of fire. Two-component

These adhesives have universal properties. They are used for many types of decorative coatings and on various reasons– absorbent and non-absorbent. • epoxy-polyurethane composition - more affordable, after curing it retains elasticity within 15-20%. It has a pungent odor and requires the use of protective equipment during work;
• polyurethane composition is a high-strength and expensive adhesive, after curing it retains elasticity within 30-40%. It has almost no odor and does not contain toxic substances.

The glue consists of two parts - polymer base and liquid hardener, packaged in different containers. Both components are mixed immediately before application, and the time to produce the mixture is about an hour. Ready-made glue is unsuitable for storage, even in a tightly closed container, because hardening occurs as a result of a chemical reaction between the components.

How to choose the right glue

The choice of composition is determined, first of all, by the type of base to which the coating will be attached, and the type of coating itself. Operating conditions should also be taken into account, i.e. humidity and temperature regime, room traffic, static loads. Let's consider how to choose the most suitable composition, depending on the characteristics of the subfloor.

As for operating conditions, everything is quite simple. It is recommended to use dispersion adhesives in the bedroom, living room or office. The loads in these rooms are low, the humidity is low, and the temperature is usually stable. In the kitchen or in the hallway, solvent-based adhesive would be more appropriate: here the exposure to moisture is stronger and the loads are higher, so the adhesive layer must be very elastic and durable. In a bathroom, hallway, or on an unheated balcony, it is best to glue the coating with a two-component composition that has the highest strength ratings.

How to glue a parquet board

Parquet board is a natural and high-tech material for floor finishing. Installation of parquet flooring completes the finishing work of the room. The floor surface for laying the boards must be prepared and carefully leveled. If parquet is laid on a floor made of concrete slabs, then to level the surface, a screed of concrete or a cement-sand mixture is poured.

Which glue is best for you?

Before gluing the parquet, you need to choose the right glue for it.

First, we determine the type of parquet.

If you have solid oak parquet and its thickness does not exceed 15 mm, then dispersion type glue is suitable for you. This glue should not contain solvents. If you are working with a cork backing, then this glue will also work.

Types of glue

Do not forget that parquet does not like moisture, so it is better to take more expensive glue, where the percentage of water will be lower. Typically, such glue is presented as a ready-made universal mixture, which is suitable for gluing waterproof wood.

The water-dispersion composition also has another minor drawback - long term grasping.

Two-component mixtures
