Siding. How to properly line roof eaves with siding? Rules to follow when making a frame

Two types are often used:

  • siding without perforation.

Why choose soffits

  • hooks for gutters;
  • metal scissors;
  • gutter;
  • electric saw;
  • special profiles;
  • punch;
  • cornice siding;
  • cornice boards;
  • end and starting bars.

To cover the roof with siding, a box is required. It can be made from wooden blocks. Suitable for lining only wooden blocks, in other cases aluminum is suitable.

Rules for installing siding

Important points of work

  • For the eaves, it is recommended to use planks under or roofs, regular boards They are also used, but they do not give the same effect.

Choosing siding for cladding

For roofing it is used not only vinyl siding, but also wooden, metal, galvanized materials. The vinyl version is used more often because of its strength, lightness, reliability and low cost. Panels made of siding are thin sheets 3 m long. Each panel has several profiled 10- or 12-centimeter strips equipped with locks.

Roof siding configurations may vary. Two types of soffits are often used:

  • soffit with partial perforation;
  • siding without perforation.

Why choose soffits

They are made from vinyl or metal. The following advantages of this product can be noted:
  • Soffits are manufactured in both perforated and solid forms.
  • The perforation of the material for the pediment can be solid or along the central part of the part.
  • Perforated panels cover the enlarged cornice, and solid panels cover the pediment cornice.
  • Soffits have an attractive appearance and are easy to process and trim.
  • The weight of the vinyl product for overhangs is small, the material is easy to install, is durable, and is not subject to corrosion.
  • Aluminum soffits for overhangs are made of a single sheet with a decorative layer.

What is needed for plating

Roofing involves the use various instruments and materials. You will need the following components of the workflow:

  • hooks for gutters;
  • metal scissors;
  • gutter;
  • electric saw;
  • special profiles;
  • punch;
  • cornice siding;
  • cornice boards;
  • end and starting bars.

Making a box for overhangs

To cover the roof with siding, a box is required. It can be made from aluminum profiles or wooden blocks. Only wooden blocks are suitable for lining; in other cases, aluminum is suitable.

Installation of eaves with siding (video)

The box for filing the pediment cornice is made of two boards, one of which is attached to the wall. Soffits are not easy to install, but if you approach the work responsibly, everything will work out. Overhang panels not only perform a functional load, but also protect the roof from excess water during rain or melting snow.

Roof soffits will allow you to implement any architectural solutions. Thanks to a wide range of components and types, you can find necessary option it will be simple.

Soffits for overhangs are installed in several stages:

  1. Two strips are installed on the roof eaves.
  2. J- and F-profiles are fixed to the strip located near the wall.
  3. The soffits are aligned to the width of the overhang.
  4. One part of the panel is inserted into the groove, and the other is fixed on the mounted strip.
  5. The joints between the soffits and roof siding are covered with a plank.

How to properly cladding

You can cover the gable with only three types of profiles - starting strip, finishing strip and J-T rim. You can decorate the corners with anything you like, but the panels should be installed only on the presented profiles.

Installation of the J-T rim roofing strip is used for the end parts of the panel if the siding is finished across the frame. The starting strip is attached directly to the side where the sheathing will come from, and the end will be the finishing strip. The presented profiles require rigid fastening with screws or nails with a pitch of less than 40 cm.

Roof lining requires compliance with other rules:

  1. The material should be stored in places protected from ultraviolet radiation, and the temperature environment must be less than 60°C.
  2. The cornice lining should provide some freedom of movement of the panels in the horizontal direction.
  3. Do not hammer fastening elements into the siding too much, as the material may collapse.
  4. No sealant should be applied between panels, corners and profiles.
  5. When installing siding, do not put too much pressure on the locks.

Rules for installing siding

The gable cladding is carried out after securing the profiles around the perimeter. The panel is cut to 5 mm less than the net length to provide space for expansion when heated. Self-tapping screws are placed in the center of the holes.

When filing the roof, it is important that the screw head does not fit flush against the vinyl; a distance of 1.5 mm must be left. There should be a panel of perforated siding every meter.

When finishing the pediment, one should not forget about the need to maintain air exchange. To achieve your goal, you can alternate between regular and perforated panels at intervals of 1 m. If such siding is not available in the store, you can drill holes in standard panels.

You can hem the cornice when turning 90° using a straight joint or a miter joint. To carry out the docking, a J-T rim profile made of metal is used. Its cost is not high. You can cut the material with a grinder or a hacksaw.

The pediment hemming along the cornice, if the width of the latter is less than 360 mm, can be used on a transverse frame. In this case, the siding is installed lengthwise, but it is better to take a wider soffit. Wooden sheathing in this case, it can be done using corners of timber located at a distance of 0.5 m.

Important points of work

The roof can be hemmed only after the rafters have been installed. There are installation features that need to be taken into account:

  • Before finishing the roof, the ends of the rafters are sawn off one level at a time.
  • For the cornice, it is recommended to use planks that match the color of the facade or roof; ordinary boards are also used, but they do not give such an effect.
  • The rafters for the roof are sawed off vertically, top part sewn up with hemming.
  • Insulation of the walls is carried out before finishing the overhang.

Installation of soffit on a hem (video)

You can complete the roof cladding yourself if you put in some effort. PVC products for the pediment do not wear out, are heat resistant and do not lose color. The presented qualities ensure long-term operation of the material. Unlike lining, soffits do not rot and do not lose their attractive appearance. appearance, but installing them requires a number of tools. Before starting work, you should prepare a box from aluminum profiles and wooden blocks, only on it can the panels be fixed.

After installation roofing structure carry out filing of roof overhangs. Finishing of roof overhangs – important stage roof arrangement, since ventilation and drains are installed simultaneously with the filing of the overhangs. Finishing the overhangs is a mandatory stage of work, regardless of the type of roof. When filing overhangs of flat and pitched roofs, only the technology of finishing the overhangs varies.

Purpose of the binder

Proper roof lining ensures the creation of a comfortable indoor microclimate, increases the energy efficiency of the structure, and protects thermal insulation material and elements roofing system from negative impact external destructive factors (precipitation, wind, temperature changes, infrared radiation).

Hemming the overhangs prevents birds and insects from entering the under-roof space and creates an attractive and complete appearance of the entire structure as a whole.

Materials

Eaves overhangs are hemmed using various materials: lining, corrugated sheets, siding, soffits and others, each of which has certain specific properties.

Most often, corrugated sheeting, lining, siding or soffits are used for finishing overhangs.

  • Profiled sheeting. It is a corrugated steel sheet with a galvanized coating. To protect the metal from corrosion, the material is coated with a protective coating on top. polymer coating. Corrugated sheeting is lightweight and comes in a variety of colors, which allows it to be used for filing overhangs and helps to embody the original design solutions. Installation of corrugated sheeting on roof overhangs is complicated by the need to cut the sheet to the required size, and also by the fact that the cut points must be additionally protected to prevent metal corrosion.
  • Lining. The material is used for finishing the eaves of buildings built of wood, since it is the wooden lining that looks the most organic and gives the structure completeness. Wooden lining should be additionally treated with antiseptic primers deep penetration to protect the material from the negative effects of moisture and biological decomposition. To ensure ventilation of the under-roof space, ventilation gaps should be left between the slats of the material, allowing air to penetrate into the under-roof space over the entire area of its overhangs. Plastic lining is considered the most economical option finishing of roof overhangs. The disadvantages of finishing with plastic lining include the need for an additional device ventilation holes, which spoil the appearance of the structure.
  • Siding. Siding made of polyvinyl chloride is used for filing overhangs. Special U-shaped panels are available for sale, designed for finishing corners, roof overhangs and ventilation grilles. (types and forms of siding are presented)
  • Soffits– these are special profiled panels made of polyvinyl chloride, designed for lining overhangs. The soffit is lightweight and sufficiently rigid to provide the structure with the necessary wind protection and strength. Ventilation of the under-roof space is ensured by the presence of special ventilation holes on one of the waves finishing material.

Regardless of the roof configuration, there are two methods of filing its overhangs: along the rafter line and by installing a horizontal box.

When filing overhangs along the rafter line, it requires that the rafters of the roofing system have a flat surface. The box is created by installing boards to the rafters of the roofing system. The box obtained in this way will perform the functions load-bearing frame for further finishing of roof overhangs.

The second option involves installing a horizontal box using two boards. The first board is mounted to the bottom of the rafter system, the second - to the wall of the structure, in the place where the roof rafters approach it.

Important! You should start filing the roof overhangs only after completing the thermal insulation of the walls of the structure. If you hem the overhangs and only then begin thermal insulation works, then the upper part of the walls of the structure will remain “cold”, which will significantly affect the energy efficiency of the structure.

The rafters of the roofing system also need to be pre-prepared: treated with special protective impregnation, cut so that they run parallel to the wall of the building. The cutting distance of the rafters from the wall should be the same along the entire perimeter of the structure, since otherwise, after filing the overhangs and installing the wind strip, all the irregularities will be noticeable.

Lining roof eaves with siding

When filing with siding, the sheathing is replaced by a mounted box along the entire rafter line. In addition to U-shaped siding panels, components such as external and internal corners and profile.

Installation profiles are mounted along the edges, into which the siding panels are inserted. Siding is installed sequentially along the entire length of the cornice.

The finishing material is fastened using umbrella nails, the heads of which should not tightly press the finishing material to the sheathing. It is necessary to leave a temperature gap that will compensate for the expansion of the finishing material.

To compensate for the thermal expansion of siding panels, there should be a play of 6-10 mm between the corner profile and the finishing material.

Covering roof overhangs with soffit

After creating the horizontal box, they begin installing the soffits. Both J- and F-profiles are used for cladding. After measuring the width of the cornice, the finishing material is cut. The length of the soffit should be 6 mm less than the measured width of the cornice.

The soffits are inserted into the profile, sequentially adding plates along the entire perimeter of the roof overhang.

As you approach the corner, the length of the spotlights should gradually decrease. To join the two sides in the corner, the edge of the panel must be filed at an angle of 45 degrees.

Lining

The lining is attached to a previously created horizontal box. Fastening technology wooden lining is quite simple: the material is stuffed between two guides of the created frame. To fasten the lining, you can use umbrella nails or galvanized self-tapping screws. The ends of the wooden lining should be treated with special protective compounds.

When finishing roof overhangs with plastic lining, special ventilation holes should be installed
.

To install plastic lining, starting profiles are installed into the grooves of which plates of finishing material are inserted.

Fasten plastic lining using galvanized screws or nails with an enlarged head.

Regardless of the chosen finishing material, the lining of the roof overhangs should be done with high quality, since the energy efficiency and durability of the structure depend on this. If the technology is not followed, moisture can penetrate into the under-roof space and destroy the thermal insulation layer.

Need to know! If, when filing overhangs, you do not ensure sufficient ventilation of the under-roof space, then water vapor will not be able to escape outside and condensation will accumulate both in the heat-insulating layer itself and on the elements of the roof structure, leading to its destruction.

Price of work

The price of roof overhang lining is not affected by the material and lining method you choose. The cost of work can be calculated per square or linear meter. On average, the cost of lining roof overhangs is square meter is 420 - 500 rubles.

Video instructions for correct installation roof overhangs

Siding cornice

Once construction of the entire roof is completed, it may not immediately take on a finished look.

It will be necessary to make a backing for the cornices and roof overhangs.

And only in this case the house will acquire a finished, excellent look. The second issue is the hemming material, because the work must be done one hundred percent beautifully and quite neatly.

These days, many homeowners prefer siding for siding.

It is worth considering that you can choose metal profiles, wood, as well as other materials for hemming overhangs and cornices - everything will depend only on you.

Materials used for hemming:

Air movement on a roof with soffits

Before on the market building materials siding appeared (metal and vinyl), all overhangs and cornices were hemmed only with clapboard or boards (planed).

It is necessary to note the disadvantage of such materials, because they are very susceptible to rotting and will very quickly lose their beauty and all the functions of their appearance. This is why you will have to paint them often, and the paint and its layers will not adorn the eaves overhangs.

Wood is the most expensive than rolled metal and siding.

Vinyl type it is not used on various parts of the roof, because in most cases it is intended to sheathe the facade.

It will not look very good on the eaves overhangs, and it also has the disadvantage of no holes or gaps for ventilation.

It is there that the condensate should collect, which very quickly causes rotting wooden element roofs.

Metal siding for a similar reason, it will become covered with rust in the form of spots, and therefore the roof will not only look poorly technically, but also in terms of attractiveness.

In order to cover the eaves with siding, the industry has produced an element called a soffit, that is, this is a type of siding that is special. The soffit can be either metal or vinyl.

Soffit- these are panels that come in both triple and double with a profiled strip. Soffits can be perforated or solid.

Perforated soffits

Perforation is sometimes made in a continuous manner along the center of the entire panel. This type is used when hemming the ceiling in those rooms that are not converted for living.

Also, sometimes they will be used to hem the roof eaves at the fronts. All perforated types are used to hem the eaves of the roof for the release of rafters.

Along the gable overhangs, they will first be sewn on the ends of the sheathing boards or the bars of the wind board. Next, a board will be nailed to each wall parallel to a certain slope.

External and internal wind boards, which are located on the same plane, will serve as the basis for creating an even eaves type of roof overhang.

The attic is separated from the end of the wall by a horizontal overhang of the gable part.

It is on this area that an inclined type overhang should be made in order to reliably protect the wall of the building from melt water and from the rain. Then the use of lining is not required and is not recommended; the same can be said about planed boards.

It is best to use moisture-resistant materials.

If a material is used that does not have a ventilation hole, then during the installation of this lining, grilles will be inserted for this type of ventilation.

In order for the cornices and their plumbs to turn out beautiful and correct, during the construction of the rafter part of the system itself - the installation of the sheathing - it is necessary to align the ends of the legs and cut them to the line of the board or beam.

Installation of soffit on the roof

The installation of the soffit should begin with the installation of a parallel profile.

The first should be fixed to the house itself, and the second - in the lower plane of the wind boards or chamfers. Soffits must be inserted into such profiles.

If we take into account the dependence on the configuration of the truss, the chamfer on the building, the most the best option installation of this chamfer and soffit profile.

There are two types of profiles: J and F.

Receiving types of profiles should be nailed at a distance of 40 or 30 centimeters.

Siding lining (diagram)

When finishing with this material is carried out with inserted ready-made canopies, then you need to install wooden board frame, which is installed according to the first type of profile.

It must be installed one level at a time along the lower edge of the installed chamfer.

When installing a metal roof, you need to file the eaves. Then it is necessary to use hemming strips of the same materials.

Important: Installation Features cornice strip. This level must be set before starting work on roofing. That is, as soon as the hooks of the water inlet are installed.

It is this strip that will protect the wall of the building from any ingress of liquid through the gutters, and will also be an accessory for the roof decor. Fastening for filing the planks to all rafters will be done with multi-colored self-tapping screws, which are selected specifically according to the color of the plank. In order to ensure ventilation for installation, a gap of about 40 millimeters should be left between the plank and the wall of the house.

Features of working with vinyl soffit

Vinyl siding colors

The vinyl type of siding or soffit will have a property that changes size as the temperature rises or falls.

Dimensions will be adjusted to within approximately 10 millimeters.

Rules that must be followed when working with vinyl siding:

  1. Installation of panels must be completely free in the horizontal direction;
  2. All materials will be stored in a place where any temperature will not reach about 60 degrees, that is, in the air;
  3. It is impossible to apply much force to secure similar materials in castles;
  4. All nails should be driven directly into the center of the hole;
  5. You should not apply this sealant to corners and panels (external and internal). Also on J profiles and panels.
  6. You should not drive such nails into siding, because you can ruin the material by leading it to cracks and further destruction of the vinyl panels.
  7. Do not completely drive in different colored nails. You will need to leave some clearance of about one millimeter with the panel soffit and nail.

When will the frame itself for the spotlights be created or façade panel, you will need to use a raw type of wood. After all, it is after complete drying that the panel siding will warp.

The vinyl type is quite practical, so it will not require special attention by operating processes.

Little things like this should always be remembered. To make your home neat and beautiful, you need to wash it regularly.

You can clean your siding with regular running water. If the stains are complex, you can use detergents chemicals and a not very rough brush.

When cleaning, you do not need to use products that contain solvents and chlorine, as you will achieve some discoloration of the color of the siding.

  • Lining the roof eaves with plastic allows you to finish the roof firmly and beautifully. Among those used PVC materials siding is recognized as one of the best. With its help, you can create a structure designed in the same style if you cover not only the eaves overhang, but also the walls.

    How to choose roof siding

    In the photo, finishing the roof of a house with siding

    Siding is a building material widely used for decoration. various surfaces houses: facade, walls, basement and cornices. It is impossible not to especially note the decorativeness of the finishing, but its main purpose is still to protect the house from the harmful effects of various natural factors.

    To find out how to line a roof eaves with siding, you first need to find out which type of material is most suitable for this purpose. Let's look at the most common of them.

    • Vinyl. Each panel of material is a monolithic sheet. Among their advantages are light weight, low cost, fire safety, ease of installation, and corrosion resistance. However, hand-drilled vents usually don't look very good on roof eave trim. But these panels can be used to successfully cover the facade.
    • Galvanized siding. Metal siding panels, like vinyl ones, are not very suitable for finishing the eaves of a house. It's all about moisture, which accumulates on the eaves and leads to corrosion of the cladding, which, naturally, does not paint the building. Still magnificent specifications materials appear on the cladding of walls and curtain facades.

    in the photo there is siding and soffits

    • Soffits. This is one of the types of siding, which is initially designed for operation in more difficult conditions. It is believed that this The best decision for covering roof overhangs. So why do professionals strongly recommend finishing roof eaves with soffit.

    The advantage of roofing soffits

    Roof sheathing today is carried out using soffits of different categories depending on operating conditions. The market offers very attractive panels made of vinyl, aluminum and copper, allowing you to choose a material that goes well with the look of your home.

    According to their design, soffits are:

    • non-perforated solid. This option is usually used when hemming the gable overhangs of the gable;
    • partially perforated. The perforation on these panels runs strictly in the center. Due to this, the under-roof space is properly ventilated and excess moisture is removed;
    • completely perforated. They are used to finish the roof canopy with siding and other roofing parts that protrude beyond the roof. Such soffits are perfect for covering gazebos, verandas, and porches. Thanks to this type of perforation, air constantly circulates, ventilating the inner layers of the roofing cake.

    Thus, they are all free from those disadvantages that limit the scope of use of the panels.

    On a note

    Partially perforated panels are used most often. They do their job very well. With their help, you can hem almost any area, and installing these elements is quite simple.

    Among the advantages of spotlights are the following:

    • The coating composition of these vinyl or metal panels contains durable polymers, which eliminates the need to apply an additional reinforcing layer. This is why it is convenient to cover the cornice with soffit (photo below);

    • they are resistant to biological and mechanical damage: the panels do not rust, mold does not form on them, and the soffits are easy to care for - they are simply washed with water.
    • installation can be performed even without special skills and tools.

    How to cover a roof with siding

    If, when covering the roof with siding, there is a certain freedom in choosing the material, then the frame of the roof eaves sheathing is assembled taking into account certain rules.

    Frame design

    The choice of the type of frame structure for finishing the roof of a house with siding depends on the type of roofing system. Before installing it, the rafters must be prepared for installing the box. ends rafter legs that protrude beyond the façade must be cut off. They should form a line in vertical plane. The starting board for the frame structure is sewn onto them, and the cut points are covered with box lining.

    Frame installation is carried out:

    • in the direction of the rafters. In this case, the frame is made at the same slope as that of the slope. This option more suitable for single-pitched roofs, having a slight slope of the slope. In this case, the filing is done directly along the rafters. From their lower side to the inside, leveling bars (section 100x40 mm) are filled from edged boards. To ensure the horizontality of the resulting plane, start with the outermost bars and stretch the cord between them, after which the rest are stuffed.
    • horizontal box for cornice. It is assembled from a couple of boards. One of them is attached to the wall, and the other - along the bottom of the rafter legs. Additionally, cross bars are filled, passing them from the bottom of the rafters to the wall. It is on them that the panels will be attached during installation of the roof siding. In the frame for siding, at the corners where two slopes connect, the board is placed on the wide side, and not on the edge. The two boards are joined in a straight line that connects the corner of the roof to the corner of the house. The resulting structure is not connected to the wall of the house. It is fixed for reliability on metal corners or plates.

    • If the roof siding does not have ventilation holes, then ventilation grilles are inserted into the finished frame.
    • The roof must be insulated before finishing.
    • A control line drawn on the wall will help you lay the timber evenly in the corners.
    • From huge amount of different profiles, only two strips are required for installation: the starting strip, which is fixed from the beginning of the cladding, and, accordingly, the rigidly fixed finishing strip, and the J-trim profile.
    • The profiles are attached very rigidly to self-tapping screws, screwing them in at a distance of no more than 350 mm from each other.
    • The installation of the sheathing begins after completing the installation of the profile along the entire perimeter.

    • Installation profiles are stuffed along the edges, into which the siding is then inserted, but first it is necessary to measure the plates of the required length. The sheathing material is cut according to the width of the frame box. To insert the plates into the profiles, they are slightly bent. Each subsequent one is hooked to the previous one, then nailed down. The plates are assembled tightly, but without much tension. The entire cornice is assembled in this manner.

    On a note

    The profiles hide uneven edges in the areas where the cornice board and siding meet.

    In this case, you need to follow certain rules:

    • Hardware is hammered strictly into the center of the hole for fasteners in the form of an oval, so that nothing interferes with possible thermal deformation.
    • When fixing the panel to the sheathing, the cap should not be pressed too hard. Between them you need to keep a small gap of about 1 mm.
    • To prevent the skin from deforming in the future, it is necessary to reduce the size of the plates included in the corner profiles.

    As already noted, most often the cornice is finished with soffits, so we will dwell in more detail on the features of lining the cornice overhang with this material.

    • Two strips are installed along the cornice: on the wall and on the side of the cornice overhang. J-profiles are attached to the strips.
    • The cut plates are inserted into the profiles. To prevent them from breaking when bent, the set of plates begins with the installation one.
    • As you move towards the corner, the size of the panels is reduced. To change the direction of the panels at the corners, the edge of the plate is filed down, dividing the right angle in half, and installed in a J-rail driven diagonally. To do this, either carefully bend the panel, or slightly bend the J-profile, and the panel will fall into place.
      When joining two sides of the sheathing, two J-profiles are required.

The construction of a roof includes quite a lot of processes, including the installation of rafters, equipment with the necessary thermal insulation, and laying of the selected roofing material. To complete roofing works It is also worth taking care of the hemming of the cornice. IN ideal the roof should extend from the wall from 50 to 70 cm, this distance will ensure reliable protection walls from exposure to rain. At this distance from the wall, an overhang is formed under the roof; it is covered on top roofing material. To protect it from below, special covering materials are used. For this purpose, it is necessary to select a material that will ensure proper ventilation of the under-roof space.

Upon completion of the roofing work, you need to take care of filing the cornice, because... the roof should extend 50-70 cm from the wall, this reliably protects the walls from rain.

When the roof construction is completely completed, all that remains is final stage- cornice trim. This stage will give the roof a finished look. Today, the construction market offers a wide range of materials; one of the most popular materials used for these purposes is siding. Covering the eaves with siding is the best option.

Siding consists of panels that today are produced in a very wide range color scheme. In addition, additional fastenings, strips, and profiles are produced for their installation. All components as a whole allow you to create an attractive design that will protect the cornice from the negative effects of the environment. All work can be done with my own hands, the main thing is to adhere to the basic recommendations and follow the installation technology.

Siding for covering eaves

In order to sheathe the cornice, you can use not only siding made of PVC. For this purpose, types of wooden siding (lining) or galvanized metal siding. But, despite the varieties, the vinyl version is used much more often. This popularity is due to the fact that it is quite lightweight, but at the same time durable and reliable. Siding consists of thin sheets from 3 to 3.6 m long. Each such panel has profiled strips measuring 10-12 cm.

In order to fasten the siding, special lock systems. Designed for installation of siding a large number of various components. To cover the eaves, special panels have been developed - soffits; they are divided into two types:

  • siding panel without perforation;
  • siding panel with partial perforation.

Materials for filing cornices

The modern market offers a wide selection of materials that can be used for covering cornices. The most popular varieties:

  • wood siding is a relatively short-lived material that is susceptible to moisture; if the quality of production is poor, over time such siding may darken, in addition, due to the lack of perforation, poor air circulation occurs;
  • vinyl - these are polyvinyl chloride panels without perforation, in most cases they are used for cladding facades; they are used extremely rarely as a material for cladding cornices; You should not do perforation yourself, this will only spoil the presentable appearance;
  • galvanized siding - like others hardware, is susceptible to corrosion, which in particular affects short term services;
  • vinyl soffit was designed specifically for sheathing eaves; it has a higher density and can have different shapes perforations;
  • aluminum soffit - this type is made from a very thin sheet of aluminum and has color coating; outwardly it looks like a vinyl soffit, but in comparison it has very high strength and reliability indicators.

The soffit for covering the cornice is a panel made of polyvinyl chloride or aluminum. Its length is 3 - 3.6 m. The dimensions depend only on the manufacturer. The best option A soffit is considered to be 30 cm wide and 3.6 m long. Soffits are divided into three types depending on the perforation:

  • Solid soffit is most often used for lining ceilings on terraces, verandas or the porch of a building;
  • it is recommended to use a soffit with full perforation if the roofing material does not have perforation, for example, seam or bitumen tiles;
  • a soffit with partial perforation is able to provide a sufficient level of ventilation of the space, in addition, such a soffit has a very good appearance; When purchasing a soffit, all components for it should be purchased from one manufacturer, this will ensure the highest quality result of the finished work.

In most cases, it is produced in only two colors, pure white and dark brown. Some manufacturers offer beige tones material.

Main features of polyvinyl chloride soffits

When covering eaves with siding, you should adhere to the basic rules.

  1. Before starting work, the material must be stored in places where it will not be exposed to Sun rays. The ambient temperature should not exceed 60°C.
  2. When covering, it is very important to take into account that the siding panels must have freedom of movement in the horizontal direction. This is necessary so that it does not deform during expansion.
  3. During fastening, do not screw the screws in too tightly, as this may damage the locking system.
  4. Any type of soffits must be secured exclusively with self-tapping screws.
  5. There should be a gap of 1 mm between the head of the screws and the siding for free movement of the panels. This will prevent their possible deformation.
  6. It is not recommended to use sealant to seal joints in corners and between panels and profiles.
  7. When installing additional fasteners, you should be careful not to damage the siding panels.

The design of the box for overhangs

In order to start covering the soffit, you should first make a box. Aluminum profiles or wooden blocks can be used for its construction. Exist certain rules. If the cornice will be sheathed wood siding(lining), then the frame should be made only from wooden blocks. Apply metallic profile absolutely unacceptable. It can only be used on vinyl or galvanized siding.

In order for the siding to be subsequently secured evenly, the first profile must be secured to the wall.

It is very important to maintain a horizontal line. Otherwise, the siding will not be installed evenly.

If the roof has a slight slope, the filing can be carried out using a rafter system. To do this, you need to mount bars measuring 10*4 cm on the underside of the rafters. This is necessary in order to obtain a correct, horizontal plane. It is best to mount the bars along a stretched cord, which is attached between the outer bars.

If the roof slopes have a large slope, the box should be made of two bars. One profile or block will be attached to the rafters, and the second will be fixed to the wall. It is necessary to attach transverse bars to the boards, onto which the soffit will then be attached.

It is worth noting that installing soffits is quite simple, but this matter should be approached very thoroughly and responsibly, since in addition to a decorative function, they also perform a functional load. Such a cornice will protect the building from moisture during precipitation or melting snow, as well as from wind.

Installation work

All work on the installation of any spotlights begins with the installation of parallel profiles, one of which is attached to the wall, the second is mounted on the chamfer plane. It is in these profiles that the spotlights will subsequently be installed. In order to choose the right profile, it is worth determining the chamfer configuration. Currently, only two types of profiles, J and F shapes, are produced.

If awnings were initially installed on the roof, then it is worth using a J profile, it will be installed along wooden plank frame. It is very important that the profile and the lower edge of the chamfer are at the same level. After its installation, soffits cut to size are inserted into it. All junctions of soffits and siding without perforation can be hidden using a strip, which will give a complete appearance.

Features and nuances of filing

Once the entire box of wooden blocks or aluminum profiles is ready, you can begin covering the eaves with siding. In this case, it is very important to familiarize yourself with some features:

  1. Before you begin sheathing, it is very important to prepare rafter system. The preparation consists of cutting all the ends of the rafters to the same level. Parallelism relative to the walls of the house should be controlled.
  2. Any cornice can be sheathed using the most ordinary boards, but aesthetic effect it will be minimal. It is better to give preference to special strips that will match the color of the roofing material or the main color of the house.
  3. Before installing the box, all rafters should be sawed down so that the end part is also protected by siding.

All work on wall insulation should be carried out before the roof overhang is completely covered with vinyl siding.
