Blinds play a big role for comfortable living

But in addition to the above function, these structures also protect against noise that can come from the street.

In addition, blinds are an excellent window decoration. Even stripes look stylish and strict and do not require much maintenance.

Of course, it is best to install them yourself. But every owner is faced with the problem of choosing: which blinds are suitable for his room, what to choose - vertical or horizontal. After all, it is from correctness decision taken depends home comfort and comfort.

IN modern apartment blinds are common

In a modern apartment, blinds are a common thing. These original curtain substitutes have long been part of our lives. They give the space a certain aesthetics, elegance, and beauty. Their skillful use allows you to emphasize advantages and hide disadvantages.

The modern market offers many types of blinds. They differ from each other in size, shape, direction of the strips themselves, material of manufacture and even color.

In general there are three main types:

  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • roll

Horizontal. This type is most suitable for residential premises. Such blinds can be attached both inside the window, on each of its sashes, and outside, covering the entire window. Such blinds combine perfectly with curtains and practically do not occupy the window sill space.

Roller blinds perform the same functions as simple ones horizontal blinds, but the fabric base itself makes them lighter and more elegant

Vertical. The difference between this type of blinds is that they can be attached not only to the window itself along its outer part, but even to the ceiling. They create an adequate replacement for tulle curtains. However, this type creates an “office” look, and therefore is not used so often for residential premises. However, for rooms with low ceilings These blinds will fit perfectly. They will help to visually increase the size of the room, this is due to the fact that the structure completely covers the window.

These blinds are perfect for rooms with low ceilings.

Rolled. Thanks to the diversity color range These blinds are perfect for any design solution. They perform the same functions as simple horizontal blinds, but the fabric base itself makes them lighter and more elegant. They are attached simply - with adhesive tape, using self-tapping screws that are screwed to glazing beads or brackets.

Taking measurements yourself

Taking measurements so that the installation of blinds on a plastic window is successful is not particularly difficult, but it has some features that should not be missed.

If the choice is made on vertical blinds, then Special attention It is worth paying attention to the width of the product. Unfortunately, adding an extra plate will be much more difficult than, say, shortening it. As a result, after adding at least one plate, you will have to redo the entire product.

If you decide to hang horizontal curtains, then there are several options for both fastenings and measurements.

To attach blinds inside a window, you need to know the width and height of the product. Of course, the height can be subsequently adjusted using the built-in mechanism, but it is better to calculate it as accurately as possible so that the excess does not “little” on the window sash as an unnecessary burden. Width is a measurement that requires special attention, because depending on the accuracy of its removal, the window will be completely closed or it will break through the cracks left behind. sunlight and unnecessary noise.

If the window opens, then measurements must be taken in the following way. Take accurate measurements of the height and width of the glass itself, and then add 2 cm on top and 0.5 cm on the sides. It is necessary to take into account the availability window fittings, which should not interfere with the operation of the blinds.

Using the same principle, measurements are taken for roller blinds.

But is it necessary to put in so much effort and time? Buy brackets, adhesive tape, glazing beads and much more? It is much easier to come to the company with your own sizes and choose the product you are interested in.

The first thing to do when a question arises about how to install blinds on a plastic window is to take the dimensions, it is better to double-check them several times and only then go to the company. By the way, it is better to contact the company where the plastic windows themselves were manufactured.

Installation of horizontal blinds on plastic windows

Every owner thinks about how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows.

This process requires a certain precision and attention. It consists of several stages:

  1. Stepping back 6 cm on both sides, you need to mark the place where the blinds will be attached. At this stage, it is necessary to pay special attention to the accuracy and evenness of the future attachment points. If they are distorted, the blinds will not be able to work fully and will soon fail.
  2. Using a screwdriver, mark the holes into which the brackets will later be attached. If the window needs to be opened, then holes should be made in the upper part of each sash, and if the window is solid, then the hole should be made on outside glazing bead
  3. After inserting the blinds into the brackets, snap them into place.

If the process of installing blinds raises questions or any difficulties, watch the video instructions for installing blinds on plastic windows

  1. Depending on the size of the blinds and convenience, make a hole at the bottom or side of the window sash into which the lock will be attached.
  2. Check how the blinds work.
  3. If the process of installing blinds raises questions or any difficulties, watch the video instructions for installing blinds on plastic windows.

Install vertical blinds Although it’s a little simpler, it still requires no less painstaking work. It consists of the following steps:

  1. At a distance of at least 10 cm from the edge of the cornice, it is necessary to make markings for the brackets using a pencil.
  2. Drill holes and insert dowels into them to secure the brackets.
  3. Install the mounting brackets along with decorative slats on the cornice.

  1. Having assembled the runners, secure them into the fabric.
  2. Attach weights to the bottom of the decorative slats.
  3. Connect the weights to each other by sequentially threading a decorative chain through their ears.
  4. Inserting the end corners and side panels into the ends decorative panel, install it in the mounting brackets.
  5. Check the operation of the blinds.
  6. If for some reason they do not work or do not work correctly, it is better to watch a video on how to install blinds on plastic windows or seek help from a specialist.

But installing roller blinds is the fastest and least expensive. All you need is:

  • duct tape;
  • liquid Nails.

Thanks to this method of fastening, they can be removed, washed, hung and moved to a new place.

On a note! For greater strength, the frame must be washed thoroughly and all dirty stains that will interfere with the strong adhesion of the tape to the plastic must be removed.

Some companies, when selling blinds, only supply the canvas. In this case, all fastening materials must be purchased additionally. When choosing curtains, you should pay attention to the fact that different rooms fit different types blinds. For example, they are most suitable for the bathroom due to ease of cleaning. plastic blinds, in the kitchen - made of aluminum or fiberglass, because they do not burn, and in the bedroom, fabric-based products will create coziness and comfort.

There are a few rules to keep in mind during installation:

  1. For more level installation For horizontal blinds, you need to make a mark at the very beginning on the bottom of the window where the side should end, since alignment along the longer vertical side will correspondingly align the upper perpendicular one.
  2. Some companies offer to use special screws for installation, which can be screwed directly into the window profile;
  3. If the fastening plates do not fit tightly to the window profile, special U-shaped pads are used, which, depending on the gap, can be used from one to several pieces.

You should also remember that vertical blinds should never be moved by hand if they are deployed so that they completely cover the window. This may damage them. You must first pull the chain and turn the slats perpendicular to you and only then can you move or move the curtains-blinds themselves.

If you find defects or poor performance of the blinds, they creak or do not turn, be sure to call a specialist from the company where you made the purchase. It’s better not to do anything yourself. Although it seems simple enough.

Of course, everyone loves cleanliness, but new blinds have a certain coating that wears off very quickly. In this regard, it is best to completely soak the blinds, let them stand, and only then carefully wipe with a soft sponge, rinse and let them dry on their own.

But vertical curtains must be cleaned extremely carefully with a dust whisk or a vacuum cleaner with an air intake regulator.

Important! You should always remember that when using products, you should follow the operating instructions.

A sharp tug on the cord of vertical curtains leads to their breakage.

I like

Types of blinds

Currently exists great amount types of blinds. They can be classified according to different criteria. Some of the classifications are given below.

In the first classification, I would like to touch on the types of blinds according to their location.

  1. Blinds for offices. As a rule, such blinds have a discreet appearance. They are not intended to beautify the interior, but to perform their direct functions. That is, for protection from prying eyes, if the room is located on the ground floor of the building or they fence a separate office with glass partitions. And to prevent direct hits sun rays.

Installing such curtains is quite difficult and, most likely, a master class alone will not help. You will need a professional for installation;
  • Roller blinds. There are two types of similar blinds: Roller shutters and Roller blinds. Roller blinds of these two types are radically different from each other in purpose. Roller shutters are installed on the outside of the window, and for the most part play a protective role. Roller blinds are installed indoors and serve for decorative purposes and sun protection. Your name roller blinds obtained thanks to the ability to roll up when closed. Roller blinds are very popular at the moment and are in great demand among buyers. Installing roller blinds does not have any technical difficulties. But in order to install Roller shutters, the services of professional installers will be required;
  • Attic blinds. The name of the curtains speaks for itself. Similar curtains are installed on windows in the attic under different angles. They perfectly protect not only from the rays of the sun and light, but also from dust. Such blinds are available both vertical and horizontal. They can also be rolled;

  • Inter-frame blinds. This type of curtain is installed on old wooden windows large sizes. As a rule, they are multi-sectional, which allows you to open the window both completely and various sashes one by one. Installation of such curtains is quite simple. Those who have encountered similar works or at least watched a master class, you can easily cope with this task;
  • Multi-texture blinds. The peculiarity of such curtains is their colorful appearance and bright colors. Such blinds contain not only rich colors, but also a variety of patterns. As a rule, such curtains are vertical. These blinds are usually made of wood, but can also be made of paper, fabric or plastic;
  • Photoblinds. They are an analogue of photo wallpaper, and when closed, a certain picture appears on them, which can be very diverse. Most often, such blinds are installed in living rooms, but are often used for kitchens and bedrooms. The most popular photoblinds are made of fabric. Plastic and paper ones are a little less common;
  • Roman curtains. These blinds are very similar to pleated blinds, only when open they form folds. They are perfect for any room in your home or apartment. Roman blinds will fit seamlessly into the windows of the kitchen, living room, study or bedroom. Installing Roman blinds does not have any technical difficulties. Anyone can install them themselves. To do this, you need to watch a master class or study the instructions, which describe everything step by step;

  • Electric blinds. Such curtains can be of completely different types: Roman, roller, vertical and horizontal. The materials from which they are made are also varied. They can be fabric, plastic, paper or made of wood. The advantage of motorized blinds is that they use an electric motor to open and close them. As a rule, such curtains are installed on high windows and openings. The installation locations for these curtains are very varied. This can be either the living room or the kitchen windows.

Perhaps, all types of blinds that exist today are listed above, but progress does not stand still and, perhaps, new curtains of this type, unknown to date, will soon appear. Perhaps someone will develop them famous designer, but it may also be that the new kind Some folk craftsman will create blinds with his own hands.

We make blinds ourselves

The second part of our article will be devoted to how to make blinds with your own hands. At home, such curtains can be made from absolutely any material, for example, wallpaper, newspaper pages, fabrics or plastic. You can make your own blinds both horizontal and vertical. Both roll and roman. Both for the kitchen and for the living room or office.

Preparing to make blinds

Before you start making blinds with your own hands, you need to measure the window and window opening. Since self-made blinds cannot be changed in size after complete assembly.

Paper blinds

The easiest way to make these types of blinds is to make them from wallpaper. This material was not chosen by chance. Wallpaper paper is quite rigid, but at the same time it transmits light well in small quantities. Another undoubted advantage of wallpaper blinds is the cost of the material.

All you need to do is choose an acceptable wallpaper color and get to work. Step-by-step instruction is given below.

  • The first step is to take a blank of wallpaper 1.25 times the height of the window and a width equal to the window. If the window opening is wider than a roll of wallpaper, then the blinds will have to be made from several sections. We fold the workpiece like an accordion; the width of the lamellas should be within 5 or 7 centimeters. Otherwise, the workpiece will not fit into the whole number of lamellas. You need to approach folding wallpaper with all responsibility, because if you treat it carelessly, the error will increase with each fold, and as a result the blinds will turn out crooked.
  • The folded accordion of wallpaper must be pierced with a hole punch exactly in the middle. You should get a hole with a diameter of 7–9 millimeters. You need to thread a cord with a diameter less than 2–3 centimeters into the hole formed. If it is thinner, it will soon begin to damage the paper.
  • There is no need to thread the cord through the top lamella. It must be looped around and secured with a knot.
  • Next, we will need double-sided tape, equal in size to the lamella. We attach it to the top lamella with a cord.
  • The lower lamella must be folded and glued in the shape of a fan.
  • The next step is to install blinds on the window. This is done using double-sided tape previously glued to the top lamella. Blinds are attached to the window frame.

As you can see, the process of making blinds from wallpaper is not at all complicated, and absolutely anyone can do such work. If there are any unclear points, you can always watch the master class on the Internet.

These homemade blinds are perfect for the kitchen and balcony.

It is somewhat more difficult to make Roman blinds with your own hands than from wallpaper or newspaper tubes. They are made from thin fabric. detailed instructions on the manufacture of such blinds is given below.

  • First of all, we take a piece of thin fabric and iron it onto hot-melt paper. After the fabric is glued, you need to trim off the excess paper. WITH reverse side it is also necessary to iron our workpiece with an iron;
  • Next, let's start preparing decorative finishing. For this we need finishing fabric and bortenfix. Glue it along the top edge of the fabric. We retreat 8 centimeters and glue another strip of bortenfix. We attach two more adhesive tapes nearby at a distance of 2 and 3 centimeters from the previous bortenfix. Cut out two strips of fabric 8 and 3 centimeters wide;

  • Then you need to take a large decorative strip and iron it so that the strips of adhesive tape are on the wrong side. After this, fold the strip of fabric in half and iron it again. The same must be done with a three-centimeter strip of fabric;
  • A wider decorative strip should be wrapped around the perimeter of three sides big piece fabric, and iron thoroughly so that the bortenfix is fixed. The second decorative strip is glued parallel to the first at some arbitrary distance;
  • The third step is to equip the Roman blinds with fittings. On the wrong side you need to make markings for weights and guides. To do this, draw four lines with equal indentations from each other along the width of the curtain. It is also necessary to draw one horizontal line, retreating 10 centimeters from the bottom edge of the curtain. Hot-melt adhesive tapes are glued over the markings. Iron the top of the workpiece by 1.5–2 centimeters. We glue bortenfix on top and iron the edge, and glue hot-melt tape with a pocket on top. Next, insert the terminals for the cord into the pockets. We insert the weighting material into the horizontal pocket. We also install terminals for the guides under the thermal adhesive tape vertically.
  • Installation. Roman blinds are attached to the curtain rod using thermal adhesive tape. Next, you need to pull the cord through the guides installed earlier.
  • The last step is to attach the curtain rod above the window.

Roman blinds are ready. This product is perfect for the kitchen or hallway.

Making blinds from other available materials

There are many more manufacturing methods homemade blinds. They can be constructed from newspaper tubes. Plastic strips are also suitable for these purposes. The method of manufacturing such products is very much reminiscent of the design of blinds made from wallpaper. The only significant difference is the need to make holes in each of the tubes (in the case of making blinds from newspaper). The plastic strips will have to be drilled in three places: along the edges and in the center.

Roller blinds have more complex design than curtains made of tubes and plastic strips. To create them, you need a material that retains its original shape well and is elastic. Also, to create roller blinds you will need a guide, which will serve as the center for winding the blinds.

Blinds in Lately, have gained extraordinary popularity not only in offices, they are also happily placed in residential premises. Attaching blinds to windows provides excellent protection from direct sunlight without interfering with ventilation or opening the windows.

Manufacturers offer several types of blinds

  • Vertical;
  • Horizontal;
  • Accordion or pleated;
  • Roll type of folding.

Vertical blinds have the form of vertical slats (strips) connected to each other, which move around their axis using a plastic chain. And also, they can be moved left or right.

The operating principle of horizontal blinds is the same as vertical ones. Only folding occurs from bottom to top.

Pleated - they look like an accordion, for this they are impregnated by special means so that they keep their corrugated shape. They can be attached to both a plastic window and a window opening.

Roller blinds - have the appearance of a continuous canvas that can be rolled into a roll, while opening or closing part or all of the window.

Depending on their materials, lamellas can be:

  • metal;
  • wooden;
  • bamboo;
  • plastic;
  • made from fabric.

What kind of blinds are the best option for the balcony?

Before you start placing blinds on plastic windows, you should understand whether they are needed at all. Will they become a hindrance when closing or opening the window?

One thing can be said for sure - if a loggia or balcony is converted into a separate room, then blinds are definitely needed.

When choosing blinds, in addition to design and appearance, special attention should be paid to the following points:

  • functionality and practicality of fasteners;
  • It should be taken into account that not all types of fastenings are suitable for window units;
  • practicality of blinds;
  • It is better to choose plastic or fabric material for the balcony; wood and bamboo can create unnecessary noise.

Nuances when attaching different types of blinds:

  • Vertical blinds

The peculiarity of mounting vertical light filters is that they are suitable for mounting on a window opening, wall or ceiling. They are not suitable for mounting on sashes and are attached only by drilling.

  • Horizontal blinds

The most standard blinds that are suitable for almost any plastic windows. They are considered universal; it is possible to mount them both on each sash and between frames.

  • Roller blinds

For ease of use, it is better to install roll filters on window sashes. If they are placed in a window opening or attached to a wall, then it will not be possible to close or open the window with the filters closed. Besides roller blinds- very delicate, special care must be taken during installation.

How to remove blinds correctly

Over time, like everything else in the house, window structures become covered with dust, so blinds should be removed for cleaning. Each type has its own characteristics when removing.

Removing vertical blinds:

  • We transfer the slats to the open state, after which we assemble them;
  • We release the chain from the weights and take out the weights;
  • We remove each lamella: lift the slider clip and, moving it a little, remove the lamellas one by one.

Removing horizontal blinds:

  • Remove the cornice from the bracket;
  • We assemble the lamellas at the top and look for the latch protrusion;
  • Pull the lock towards you and to the right;
  • We remove the slats.

Removing roller blinds:

  • There is a tongue on the bracket; you need to bend it using a screwdriver;
  • Remove the shaft by pulling it towards you.

A short video on how to install blinds on plastic windows:

Recently, many housewives prefer to hang blinds instead of curtains. They are practical, convenient, but not cheap. If you don’t want to spend money on curtains because you’ve already ordered blinds, but they haven’t arrived from the store yet, you can temporarily hang homemade blinds on your windows. They are also suitable for the garden. How to make blinds? There are very simple models, which can be built in a couple of hours. If you wish, you can create something more complex and interesting. In this case, there is no need to spend money on store-bought blinds. Handmade products will become the “highlight” of your home, an exclusive item that you will not find anywhere else.

Paper

Elegant and simplest models

If after renovation you still have unused rolls of wallpaper and have a couple of hours of free time, you can put them to good use and make simple ones or use them in another room. If they get dirty or torn, you can replace them with new ones.

If you want to quickly, step-by-step instructions will help you:

  1. You need to decide on the size of the blinds. Take a measuring tape and measure the window. Your curtains should be slightly longer than the window itself, that is, take its length in centimeters and add another 30-40 cm. Width is the size of a piece of wallpaper. If you have a wide window, you can glue 2 pieces of wallpaper with tape.
  2. Lay out a piece of wallpaper on the table and cut the desired piece.
  3. Now all that remains is to make an “accordion” out of them. First, divide the resulting canvas using a pencil and ruler into strips of equal length. Their size can be different: from 2 to 3 cm. Along the resulting lines you need to fold the canvas into an “accordion”. You can assemble it without preliminary markings, if you are confident that you can make a beautiful and even “accordion”. To make the fold clear, you need to carefully run the handle of folded scissors along it.
  4. Fold the resulting “accordion” and make a hole in the center using an awl and widen it by twisting the awl a little. A rope or a ribbon prepared in advance should move freely inside the resulting hole.

    The hole must be made exactly in the middle

  5. You need to thread a rope through this hole using a hook or a large needle and secure it with tape at the top of the blinds. You determine the length of the rope yourself, but so that you can stretch the curtain in length, and there is still a small margin left; the excess can be cut off. A special clamp and end cap are attached to the end of the cord (this can be an ordinary bead).
  6. The blinds are almost ready. You can stop at this stage, then you will get simple horizontal blinds that can be assembled or unfolded. For beauty, it is better to fold the lower part of the blinds into a fan. The blinds are ready. If desired, they can be decorated with rhinestones or stickers, or some kind of design can be applied to them.
  7. You can attach them to the window using double-sided tape.
  8. Made of fabric or ribbons without an opening mechanism

    Such blinds are also called false

    You can make blinds with your own hands with special mechanisms, thanks to which they will open and close, but this is quite difficult, you need to have special skills. But it is possible to make blinds consisting of fixed strips. The simplest vertical blinds are made in this way. The easiest way is to use beautiful ribbons and threads, decorating them with beads and various figures, but the slats can also be made of other materials: wood, plastic, aluminum, and so on. If you want your blinds to move, you can buy accessories for blinds in stores, that is, a cornice with a control rope, make your own slats and attach them to the runners.

    Let us tell you in detail how we make blinds with vertical fabric slats:

    1. You need to calculate exactly how many slats you will sew. The traditional width of one strip is 12 cm. We choose an arbitrary length, the one you want.
    2. Cut the slats from the curtain fabric, leaving seam allowances, 2 pieces of fabric per piece.
    3. Sew both pieces together, leaving the edge open. Turn them inside out and iron them thoroughly.
    4. Bend the unsewn cut inward by 1 or 1.5 cm and smooth it.
    5. Work on each lamella until you have sewn as many as you need.
    6. Take the braid and carefully place the lamellas on them so that the smoothed sections are located on the braid. Secure with pins.
    7. On sewing machine sew all the slats. The same seam will secure them to the braid and at the same time close all unsewn sections.
    8. Attach hooks to the braid.
    9. Hang the finished blinds on the curtain rod.

    Roller blinds

    Making roller blinds is not so difficult, but the results are original and beautiful products

    If you want to make curtains-blinds yourself, then a fairly simple option is roller blinds, which can be sewn and assembled by almost anyone, without special training. If you wish, you can buy a ready-made one, with a drum, chain and brackets at any hardware store. And then choose the fabric you like and make your own version of the curtains. You can secure it using a special “Velcro” (sometimes it is sold complete with the rest of the mechanism). If you are not looking for easy ways, you can assemble these blinds yourself, but you will have to work hard.

    1. We need to decide on the sizes. It's easy to do. Take the length of the window and add 3-4 cm to it (seam allowance) and another 15 cm for a special “pocket” for the weighting material. Width is the width of the window and also 3 or 4 cm for an allowance, 1.5 or 2 cm on each side.
    2. Cut the fabric, connect two pieces of fabric with the right side inward, and stitch along the edges: 2 sides along the length and one side across the width. Finish the resulting bag and sew up the last edge, iron it, finishing the corners well.
    3. At the bottom there will be a pocket with a weighting agent. The weighting material can be a round beam with a diameter of up to 3 cm or a piece of aluminum. This is where the fabric will be wound. The length of the weighting material is slightly less than the width of the canvas, so that it fits into the prepared pocket. When you sew the pocket, consider sewing a zipper into it. Then you can take out the weights and wash your blinds.
    4. Will still be needed wooden slats, which you can then attach to a regular frame using self-tapping screws or attach with double-sided tape to a plastic window. Wrap the holder with fabric and secure the blinds to it using a needle and thread. On the other side of the plank, you need to place hooks to which the rope will be tied.
    5. Sew two narrow strips of fabric and attach rings to them. These strips with rings should be placed at the top of the curtain, approximately 5-7 cm from the top edge and 15-20 cm from the side edges (see picture above).
    6. Now all that remains is to stretch the rope correctly. It is tied to prepared hooks, then pulled along the length of the fabric, brought out through the rings and secured to a special nail or hook on the wall. If you pull the cord, the curtain will roll up.

Self-made blinds can enliven any interior and add zest to it. The manufacturing process is quite simple, so you can create interesting and unusual curtains even with your child.

The wallpaper left over after renovation is perfect for making paper curtains. Pleated blinds can also be made from whatman paper. The second option is most interesting for children, since the paper can be painted with felt-tip pens or markers.

Exist various options paper curtains - rectangular, with rounded edges. The service life of such curtains is one year. You can change pleated blinds more often, since it takes no more than half an hour to make a curtain.

To create a pleated curtain you will need the following materials:

  • roll paper wallpaper or whatman paper;
  • scissors;
  • a simple pencil;
  • rope, cord or tape;
  • Double-sided tape;
  • awl;

IMPORTANT: You should select the fabric that harmoniously matches the interior of the room.

Necessary materials

For production you will need:

  • a piece of fabric, the length of which exceeds the height of the window by 40-45 cm;
  • two ropes or ribbons;
  • awl;
  • clamps;
  • hooks;
  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • ruler.

HELP: You can experiment with fabric. Translucent materials will bring lightness and freshness to the interior, and thick fabrics protect residents from sunlight.

Instructions

  1. Measure 10 cm from the right and left edges of the fabric cut. Holes are made in these places with an awl. If the edge needs to be hemmed, then the space on each side should be at least 13 cm.
  2. Next, the same holes are made every 10 cm.
  3. Strings or ribbons are carefully inserted into the resulting holes. The thickness of the rope should correspond to the diameter of the hole. If the end of the rope begins to fray when threaded into the holes, you can lightly burn it with a lighter.
  4. The ends of the ropes are secured with clamps. You can also use beads as fastening.
  5. The curtain is attached over the window using hooks or nails.

A fabric curtain will last longer than one made of paper. It can also be decorated with sparkles, ribbons, beads or other decorations. To make the edge of the fabric look neater, it is stitched using a sewing machine.

Making Roman blinds from fabric

Roman blinds are a great addition to the design of living rooms and bedrooms. Made of fabric, these blinds can serve their owners long years. The peculiarity of Roman blinds is the beautiful, even folds that form when lifted.

When making curtains you can use various fabrics. The number of folds depends on the size of the window. On average this is 5-7 folds.

Necessary materials

To make Roman blinds, you need the following materials:

  • five to seven weight strips. They can be made from old newspapers rolled into a tube or from small wooden slats;
  • bottom bar 3-4 cm wide;
  • piece of fabric;
  • rope;
  • ruler;
  • fabric glue;
  • a strip of Velcro for attaching curtains.

Instructions

  1. First you need to measure a piece of fabric. On each side it should be several centimeters wider than the window (5-10 cm). If you plan to make narrow curtains, then the piece of fabric should be slightly narrower than the window opening. Before starting work, the fabric should be ironed. The edges can be finished on a sewing machine or hemmed by hand.
  2. Next, using a ruler and chalk, mark the places where the weights are attached. They should be located at an equal distance from each other. You need to make a hole in the center of each weight for the rope. For a small curtain, 6 folds and 5 weights are enough. In order not to make mistakes in the calculations, you need to divide the length of the fabric by 5. It is necessary to take into account the width of each weighting agent.
  3. Weighting agents are glued to the designated areas with fabric glue. This glue is sold in sewing supply stores.
  4. The last strip is glued to the bottom edge of the future curtain.
  5. A rope is inserted into the prepared holes. It is advisable to secure its end with a clip, knot or bead.
  6. The blinds are ready! They are secured to the cornice using Velcro.

There are other ways to make curtains. You should not limit yourself to standard options and shapes - in stores you can find a variety of types of decorations with which ordinary blinds can easily be transformed into original interior details.
