Self-adjustment of the front door closer. Adjusting the door closer with your own hands: subtleties and nuances The door closer does not close completely

About what functions are found in door closers, why they are and whether they are always so necessary.

1.WHAT FUNCTIONS ARE THERE AND HOW DO THEY WORK?

Palladium door closers, like all gear driven overhead door closers, have basic and advanced features.

The basic functions are the overall closing speed (Close Speed) and the finishing speed (Latch Speed). Additional: wind brake (Back Check), closing delay (Delay Action) and fixation in the open position (Hold Open). All functions work independently of each other. And everything except the locking in the open position can be adjusted.

Let's explain how it all works. The closer body is filled with viscous machine oil. It also contains a spring, a piston and a hydraulic system consisting of channels through which oil moves back and forth. When opening the door, we act on the piston, and it compresses the spring. At this time, the oil flows from its starting point to another part of the housing.

When we release the handle, the spring expands and presses on the piston - the door begins to close. At the same time, the spring pushes the oil. It passes through the channels and flows through the valves into the channel from which it began its journey. Therefore, a door controlled by a closer does not just close, but does so smoothly.

The idea is to use adjusting screws to partially block the desired channel, controlling the speed of oil flow, and with it the smoothness of the door closing. The screws are adjusted with a screwdriver. The main thing is not to unscrew them counterclockwise two or more turns from the factory setting, otherwise the screw may fall out and the closer may leak. In general, to feel a change in the movement of the door, it is enough to tighten the screw 1/8-1/4 of a turn.

We explained how the overhead door closer functions work. Now let's look at each of them separately. However, keep in mind that all values (degrees, seconds) are approximate and are given for installation of the closer in a standard way(perpendicular lever).

2. ADJUSTABLE CLOSING SPEED (CLOSE SPEED)

[What is he doing]

Accelerates or slows down door closing within a range of up to 15°. That is, on the way from the state “the door is open” to the state “the door is about to close.”

[Description]

When adjusting speed, avoid extremes. If the door closer closes an open door quickly (less than 4 seconds), this will create inconvenience for children, the elderly and the disabled. If it is slow (more than 7 seconds), and the door is the entrance, you can let cold into the room in winter.

Please note: in closers with delayed closing (Delay Action), the Close Speed function is activated in the range from 69° to 15°. The speed of the blade movement in the segment from 180° to 70° depends on how you set the closing delay.

[How to adjust]

Turn the corresponding screw clockwise to make the door close more slowly. If you want to speed up the closing, turn the screw counterclockwise.

3. ADJUSTABLE LATCH SPEED

[What is he doing]

Accelerates or slows down the closing of the door in the range from 15° to 0° (at the very end of the door movement).

[Description]

This function is needed for automatic slamming. If you speed up the finishing, the door controlled by the closer will make a “jump at the finish line”. This is enough for it to fit into the seal and close with a mechanical latch (no adjustments are needed for magnetic locks). And vice versa. If there is no seal or mechanical latch, the slam can be reduced. In addition, there will be less noise and pinched fingers.

[How to adjust]

Turn the screw clockwise to reduce the adjustment. If you need to increase it, turn the screw counterclockwise. Important: first adjust the closing speed and only then adjust the finishing speed, and not vice versa!

4.ADJUSTABLE WIND BRAKE (BACK CHECK)

[What is he doing]

Limits sudden opening or slamming of the door in the range from 70° to 180° (depending on the adjustment).

[For what]

So that the wind and hooligans cannot knock the door against the wall, causing damage to the hinges and handles. This option is suitable for external doors and entrance groups with high traffic and risk of vandalism ( educational establishments, shopping centers, hospitals, etc.). We also recommend it if the room is located in a windy area.

[Description]

When the door moves suddenly, damage is caused not only to the fittings and the wall, but also to the door closer. In particular, the spring-loaded piston. It has a sealing cuff made of polyurethane. If you forcefully open or slam the door, the water hammer will be applied directly to the cuff. It is not ready for such loads, so it will most likely burst and leak. But even if the cuff is lucky, the closer linkage may suffer.

To prevent all this from happening, the closer is equipped with a hydraulic “wind brake”. It works like an airbag for the door.

The wind brake cannot be turned off, but it does not interfere with the use of the door. The fact is that the resistance of the closer is proportional to the speed of the web. That is, depreciation is activated only when the door moves quickly, with a jerk. And if it’s smooth, as usual, then you won’t feel any resistance. In addition, you can always tighten the adjustment screw to set the desired angle and damping stiffness.

[How to adjust]

Turn the wind brake screw clockwise to make the damping stiffer and activate earlier. If you want to loosen the shock absorption and allow the door to swing open more, turn the screw counterclockwise.

5.ADJUSTABLE CLOSING DELAY (DELAY ACTION)

[What is he doing]

Slows down the door closing speed several times over the range from 180° to 70°. After passing the 70° angle, the door closes at normal speed. The maximum delay time depends on the door closing angle and the settings and can be up to 35 seconds.

[For what]

You no longer need to ask others to hold the door for you if you need to bring in boxes or push a stroller or cart.

[Description]

Door closers with the Delay Action function are suitable for utility rooms (warehouses, storerooms, utility rooms, etc.). A delay of up to 35 seconds is enough for workers to place the load, open the door, lift the load and carry it into the room. This function is also useful in medical institutions and nursing homes. It will be easier for hospital and hospital staff to bring in stretchers and roll carts. Elderly people and patients in wheelchairs will be able to use the door safely.

The “closing delay” cannot be disabled, but can be reduced to a few seconds. Keep this in mind if you are going to install a door closer with this function on a door with a high throughput(for example, in large shopping centers). Also it's not the best option for an entrance door in a constantly air-conditioned room.

[How to adjust]

Turn the corresponding screw clockwise to increase the delay time. If a long delay is of no use to you (for example, in minus temperature on entrance doors), then turn the screw counterclockwise.

6. FIXING THE OPEN POSITION (FOP, HOLD OPEN)

[What is he doing]

Stops the door and prevents it from closing when it is open at an angle >70°-80°.

[For what]

To leave the door open for the passage of a group of people, carrying cargo, transporting a cart, stroller, etc. Or for ventilation or cleaning.

[Description]

FOP is a useful option for internal doors, replacing the floor clamp. When you open the door to an angle of 70-80° or wider, it locks and remains open. To make it shut, “help” it: pull the handle towards the opening. As soon as the angle between the canvas and the opening is reduced to<70°, дверь начнет автоматически закрываться.

On different closers, FOP is implemented differently. In some models - due to a folding lever. In others (including Palladium) - using an internal non-adjustable valve.

Please note that FOP cannot be disabled. Usually this is not critical, since most people open their doors only 50-60° (if you want, check how you do it). But if you are firmly convinced that FOP will interfere with you, then you can buy door closers without this function, but with the same load. For example, Palladium models 1025 D, 1045 D (with FOP) correspond to models 1025 ST, 1045 ST (without FOP).

[How to adjust]

No way. This feature cannot be adjusted or disabled.

7. IN CONCLUSION: SELECT THE CLOSER ACCORDING TO THE WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS OF THE DOOR

Functions are functions, but the main criteria when choosing a closer are the weight and dimensions of the door leaf. If you choose a low-power device, the door will not slam, and the closer will quickly break or leak. And vice versa: place a door closer with a load of 85-120 kg on a light door leaf - the door will be harder to open. In addition, the load on the hinges will increase many times over.

Closer - a design for automatically returning the door leaf to its original position. The “smart” device smoothly and silently closes the open sash. Most doors are equipped with a modern, convenient device. But, like any mechanism, the device requires careful care, adjustment and repair.

The following material will help you set up and perform a simple inspection of the device.

Device types

The mechanism controls the movement of the web (closer). It sets the movement mode: speeds up or slows down the closing process, gives softness and ease to the sliding of the sash. There are several operating principles.

In practice, two types are used:

  • The sliding rod operates the spring and piston system. One piston opens, the other brakes. The sliding type design is compact and reliable, suitable for lightweight doors.
  • With a lever-type gear transmission - the most common class of locking structures. A reliable combination of spring rod and gear allows you to install devices on massive doors.

The main requirement for choosing a door closing regulator is that it must correspond to its parameters; the more massive the door leaf, the more powerful the door closer is needed.

Based on the location of the control units on the door, the following groups are distinguished:

  • upper;
  • floor mounted systems;
  • hidden.

Upper. A widespread class of door closers. The combination of low price and reliable operation makes them popular among the population. They are installed at the top of the sash, which is very practical during installation. Manufacturers produce special oil-filled devices for external doors, adapted for use in hot or frosty climates.

Floor holders. They have proven themselves well in office premises, shopping centers, banks, where there are increased requirements for the appearance of doors. Flooring systems are built into the flooring and are practically invisible to visitors. Sliding type regulator designs are used and are designed for doors weighing up to 100 kg.

Internal devices. The devices are indispensable where careful cosmetic finishing and an impeccable front façade are required.

  • Small sliding type design, mounted inside the door frame or leaf.
  • The loop closer is a compact device. The range of application is limited: do not install on heavy doors; wears out quickly; special precision of installation on the doorway is required.

In what cases is adjustment required?

It is quite possible to adjust the closer yourself in cases where:

— a new closer was installed on the door leaf;

- for the purpose of preventive examination. Eliminating minor faults helps to increase the service life of the device;

- when changing climatic periods. Most of the devices are sold with an oily filling. When weather conditions change, the viscosity of the fluid in the mechanism changes, which requires additional calibration;

— upon detection of easily removable defects;

— in case of failures occurring during continuous operation. Urgent improvements are being made to the functioning of the automatic device;

- if a failure occurs or a breakdown occurs, one adjustment is not enough. It is necessary to take a number of measures to restore full functionality of the equipment.

What and how to regulate

To adjust the closer, there are two screws on the body. Some manufacturers place the bolts at the end of the body, others cover them with decorative covers. The adjusting screws are marked with numbers one and two. One bolt is designed to adjust the opening angle up to 180 degrees, and the other affects the speed of the rebate.

Setting the angle (opening angle 20-180*).

The first step is to adjust the door opening angle.

— set the adjusting bolt No. 1 to the required angle parameter of 90 or 180 degrees.

Setting the speed of the rebate:

— by turning bolt No. 2 clockwise, the closing speed increases,

- by turning counterclockwise, the covering speed will slow down,

- open the door to the established angular characteristics,

- release the sash,

— start adjusting the speed of the web return with adjusting screw No. 2, achieving smooth operation.

Installation of the aftershock (opening angle from 15-0 degrees):

Adjusting the acceleration is necessary for the tightness of the rebate:

— adjust with screw No. 2.

Important! Strictly monitor the number of turns of the tension screw, do not turn it more than one turn. Depressurization and oil leakage from the device are possible.

Open position. Not all clutches are equipped with an open door locking function. Manufacturers produce mechanical devices with or without a retention system that can be turned on and off. The locking load is carried by a special clamp. It is available as an option and is not included in the package.

Mode setting:

- open the door to 90 - 100 degrees,

— adjust the special pin. The holder will fix the open door.

How to remove the hold option:

— pull the door towards you, the latch disengages.

— The door leaf is not opened to its full extent, then the locking mechanism does not turn on.

— Closing is taking place as usual.

What not to do

Some regulatory features:

  1. Strictly monitor the rotation of the adjusting bolt. Do not turn more than two turns. There is a risk of breaking the tightness of the closer body with loss of lubricant.
  2. Avoid distortions during installation. Distortions affect the duration of the structure.
  3. Do not press hard on the door when closing, which also leads to rapid wear of the mechanism.
  4. You cannot place supports under the canvas in a slightly open state; using the locking option is sufficient.
  5. Do not hang massive things on the door leaf. Additional load leads to misalignment of the finishing unit.

Leveling the finishing mechanism assembly, carried out in a timely manner, will increase the operating period of the device for a long time.

With the development of technology, human life has become much easier. With such a simple device as a door closer, you will forget about the need to double-check whether the doors are closed. Today, devices are produced in several types and are represented by products from different manufacturers, differing in their belonging to different price categories. Let's figure out how to install a door closer and adjust the door closer, how long this process will take and how difficult it is.

Main types of mechanisms and their internal structure

To choose a door closer option, you should first understand the types of mechanisms and their intended purpose. The choice should be based on the parameters of the door, namely? width and weight of the structure. In addition, take into account the temperature conditions of the room where the installation and operation of the element is planned.

The main options for automatic closers include:

  1. Top overlays, which are mounted on the wall and firmly fixed on top of the door. The mechanism ensures smooth closing and a tight fit of the door. Two types of product models are produced: with a gear drive or a sliding rod. Mechanisms in this category are distinguished by their low cost and belong to the category of affordable goods. In addition, they are easy and quick to install.
  2. Floor closers. These products, compared to the previous considered option, are highly expensive. In addition, they require special installation conditions. Most often, such mechanisms are used for doors that open in both directions. It is convenient to install this version of the door closer for an intercom door or a glass structure.
  3. Hidden closers. The products are intended for installation directly into the door leaf or frame. They are installed on doors with a thickness of at least 40 mm, becoming almost invisible. Installation is complex and requires special knowledge and skills.

A special feature of the street door closer is that it is equipped with a special mechanism lubricated with a liquid that increases resistance to high temperatures. That is, if you install such a lock, intended for interior doors or used for installation on entrance doors from the inside or outside, then its performance will significantly deteriorate and its service life will decrease.

Working principle of a door closer

This device is similar in its operation to the spring mechanism that was previously installed on gates and doors. The disadvantage of such a device was far from smooth closing, and sometimes there was a popping sound from the closing structure. As soon as modern automated systems appeared that ensure smooth door movement, the noise problem resolved itself.

The main working part of the closer is a spring and an oil shock absorber, which is responsible for a smooth ride. Oily liquid circulating inside special valves flows from one chamber to another.

Features of mechanisms

The distinctive characteristics of closers include:

  1. Oil circulation occurs through a hydraulic system with adjustable valves.
  2. Smooth and silent operation when opening/closing the door is ensured due to the viscous consistency of the oil.
  3. Depending on the type of device, the strength and speed of the mechanism may vary.

It is easy to adjust the parameters of the closer using special adjusting screws. The tighter they are clamped, the slower the liquid flows inside the cylinder. Having carefully familiarized yourself with the principle of operation of the mechanism, it becomes clear that removing and adjusting the door closer is not so difficult.

How to install and configure a door closer yourself

The main purpose of door closers is to smoothly close the front door. When installing, make sure that the product body is on the inside of the room, which makes dismantling the product from the outside impossible. This contributes to additional protection of the mechanism from penetration of moisture, dust, and dirt.

Installation tools

During installation you will need:

  1. Drill.
  2. Ruler.
  3. A simple pencil with a soft lead.
  4. Screwdriver.

There is no need to buy mounting materials separately; they are included with the closer.

What does the mechanism installation process look like?

Some manufacturers add installation templates to the product kit with full-size images of all parts of the mechanism and the proposed locations of holes and fastenings.

Having studied the template and installation details of the mechanism, we proceed directly to the process of installing the device. First, the body is attached, which in the second stage is connected to the traction lever of the structure. By following the instructions, you will see that the installation technology is not complicated and takes very little time.

Please note that the closers differ in design, and the location of the adjusting screws also differs.

Features of adjusting the door closer

The adjustment is carried out according to the same scheme, regardless of the design of the closer. When the screws are rotated clockwise, the speed of the mechanism and its force increases or, when the screw rotates in the opposite direction, it means the door closes more slowly.

When working with such a design, try to turn the screws slowly and carefully - this is one of the recommendations of experts.

To tighten the screw, just make a quarter turn. By throwing off the balance and tightening or unscrewing the screw too much, you risk completely disrupting the operation of the mechanism, which will be difficult to restore as a result.

Incorrect adjustment of the door closer will result in its damage. This is worth paying attention to.

How to properly adjust the door closer after installation

This procedure is carried out in order to obtain the optimal rate of closing the entrance or street door. Adjustment of the opening speed, as described above, is carried out using screws located on the front side of the body and hidden under a special protective cover, which is especially good when installing the mechanism on an interior door. This way the design looks more aesthetically pleasing.

By setting the system to close slowly, the owner will be able to avoid damage to the walls, and the presence of additional functions for adjusting the plastic door closer will allow you to configure the optimal operating mode of the device.

Features of self-closing devices

Where are these types of clamps installed:

  • on the entrance door;
  • where the intercom is located;
  • on structures that restrict unauthorized access to the entrance;
  • to other door structures of entrance and interior types if such a need arises.

Thanks to this mechanism, the door closes completely and opens only when using a special key. A closer with a delay function is an indispensable device for door structures in public places, helping to facilitate access to the premises for people with disabilities. This function allows you to set a delay of 30-40 seconds.

Adjustment of the door closer for entrance doors is carried out at the last stage, when closing the doors. Thanks to this function, latching the lock is easier and contributes to less heat loss when entering and leaving the room.

Features of the closer regulation during operation

Sometimes it is necessary to make adjustments during the operation of the door, but it is worth paying attention to a number of rules and recommendations that significantly facilitate the task. Please note that each device comes with detailed instructions to help simplify the process and ensure its correctness. After all, the master can always double-check the correctness of his actions by re-reading the clauses of the insert again.

The condensed instructions for adjusting the closer are as follows:

  1. During operation of the door, the first screw is turned half a turn counterclockwise, thereby adjusting the reach.
  2. The second is a quarter turn clockwise, which speeds up the opening.
  3. The third, located on the side of the body, is used to regulate the force of movement.

Remember the simple instructions for adjusting the door closer with your own hands. To loosen or strengthen the tempo, it is not recommended to unscrew the screws more than two turns. This may result in oil leakage from the system, and repairing the structure at home is unrealistic. For this reason, the procedure is performed with extreme care, strictly following the instructions attached to the product by the manufacturer.

The need to adjust the door closer of iron and other types arises quite often. If the system works poorly, and when opening the door you have to make specific efforts to get in or out of the room, then the screws need to be loosened to ensure smooth movement of the door.

Sometimes it becomes necessary to leave the door in the “open” position for a long time. To achieve this, the screw must be loosened completely. This will keep the structure open until you close the doors.

Popular door closer models and their brief characteristics

Today, the greatest popularity in the market of mechanical and automatic door devices has been achieved by those manufacturers who position their products as high-quality and reliable, and at the same time easy to adjust and operate. Among them:

  1. Dorma – door closers used for installation on metal doors for external and internal use.
  2. Apecs are products equipped with an additional permanent fixation function.
  3. Geze - adjusting the door closer is simple, and a special system ensures that adjustments are rarely necessary.
  4. "Bulat" - characterized by increased technical properties. Namely: frost resistance, strength.
  5. “Diplomat” are closers made of high-strength steel, which allows you to extend the service life of the products and give them special resistance to temperature changes.

The listed models have a lot of advantages described by customers in their reviews, which makes them even more popular every day.

By familiarizing yourself with some of the features of door closers and instructions for their installation, as well as adjusting the door closer yourself, you will save yourself from possible problems with the installation and operation of this type of system.

A door closer is a useful mechanism that ensures reliable closure of a doorway. But soon after purchase, many buyers have a problem with how to adjust the door closer. Despite its modest size and simplicity, this mechanism has several adjustment options, but it is necessary to take into account temperature conditions, type of doors, doorway dimensions and several other parameters.

Door closer device

A mechanical door closer is a device that is designed to automate the process of closing it. It is mounted either on the door frame or directly on its leaf.

There are usually three types:

  • Gear driven
  • Cam
  • Spring

In essence, it is a simple alternative to the spring that was previously used on gates. But since the springs closed very sharply and quickly, their design had to be improved. The closer consists of a spring placed in a closed housing and a pushing piston. In the middle the piston is connected to a gear, this is adjusted by a lever from the outside. Turning the lever activates the wheel, which causes the piston to move. This way the door is closed.

Do-it-yourself door closer setup

Manufacturers provide the opportunity to configure at least two or three parameters, door closing speed, delay and slam. On modern devices, there may be a speed control function in the range from 80 to 90 degrees.

Before proceeding with installation, you need to carefully read the instructions.

If you adjust the closer yourself, without the help of a specialist, and only have schematic instructions in your hands, you should pay attention to several things:

  1. Closers are used for doors of different types - both indoor and outdoor. Inside the house, it is permissible to set it to run slowly. For entrance doors, faster movement is recommended to prevent the entry of cold air or insects. We should not forget about the user’s personal preferences and seasonality.
  2. If a room is often used by a large number of people, then by setting up an intermediate passage, you can ensure the passage of several people at once. If you use a special screw, you can keep the doors open constantly.
  3. When adjusting the door closer with your own hands, many often forget about the door closer. It serves for faster closing. You should find the optimal value at which there will be no strong impact on the jamb or sudden closing.

The user himself selects parameters from the range provided by the manufacturer.

Speed regulation

Immediately after installation with your own hands, you should check the operation of the door closer. If the closing speed is too fast, then adjusting the door closer allows you to reduce it by turning the adjusting screw. To reduce the speed, just turn it half a turn clockwise. If the speed is slow, all the described actions are repeated in reverse. Adjustments are made until the optimal speed is found.

Setting the intermediate stroke

Usually the intermediate stroke is adjusted in unison with the main door stroke, but there are other options. For example, if you need to slightly reduce the speed halfway through the door closing. To do this, use the third adjusting bolt. This bolt serves to hold the door leaf in a certain position. For example, you need to add more closets to your apartment.

The screw can be adjusted so that the door remains open for a while, and only then begins to close.

Adjustment of aftershock

Adjusting the after-clap is similar to adjusting the speed, with the exception that the after-clap provides speed only in the last 20 - 25 centimeters. Accelerating the slam leads to an increase in the force of the door hitting the jamb. Therefore, you need to configure it moderately.

What should you avoid when setting up a door closer yourself?

There is only one rule that should never be broken. Do not unscrew the adjusting screws more than two turns. The operation of almost the entire mechanism occurs thanks to hydraulics. When the adjusting screws are unscrewed more than two turns, oil begins to flow from the closer. The oil is pumped there under pressure, and pumping it back in with your own hands is quite problematic.

Unscrew the adjusting screws carefully and little by little. Scrolling at least one and a half turns will make the closing speed very sharp.

How to quickly adjust the door closer:

In fact, there is nothing complicated about how to adjust the closer. This is a fairly simple mechanism, but in order for it to always remain in good condition, certain measures and rules should be followed:

  • You should not prop the doors with any object (chair, stool, etc.). In order to fix the position, it is enough to adjust the special screws.
  • You should carefully read the instructions before you begin adjusting the door closer yourself.
  • When purchasing a door closer, it is necessary to take into account the temperature conditions in which it will be operated. Some models are not suitable for use outside the home.
  • When purchasing a floor closer, you should remember that you need to plan everything in advance, since such devices are installed along with the door.

Door closer - a special mechanism for automatically closing the door Today's technologies make human life much easier. For example, a device such as a door closer eliminates the need to constantly check whether the entrance door is closed. Today, manufacturers produce several types of such devices, which are installed on entrance doors or interior doors. Quite a convenient device, easy to install and adjust.

Types and design of door closers

In order to choose the necessary model of automatic door closers, it is worth considering what types there are and what doors they are intended for. The door closer model should be selected taking into account the door parameters, namely the width and weight of the door leaf. You should also consider the temperature range at which the closer will have to operate.

Door closers come with different types of mechanisms

Main types of automatic closer mechanisms:

  1. The overhead door closers are mounted on the wall and held firmly on top. They ensure smooth closing of the door. Mechanisms are available with a gear drive or a sliding rod. The cost of such a mechanism is relatively low. Such closers are very easy to install.
  2. Floor closers are much more expensive than the first type and require special installation conditions. Most often, they are used for doors that open in both directions. Also, such a mechanism is very convenient to install on glass and intercom doors.
  3. Hidden closers are designed for installation directly into the door leaf and frame. To install this type of door closer, you will need a door with a thickness of at least 40 mm. They are practically invisible. Installing this type of door closer is quite complicated and requires special knowledge and skills.

The street closer is equipped with a mechanism that is lubricated with a special liquid to increase resistance to high temperatures. In other words, if you install a lock designed for indoor use on an access door, its performance will be significantly impaired and its service life will be significantly reduced.

What is a door closer used for and how does it work?

In its operation, the door closer is similar to the spring mechanism that was previously installed on doors and gates. But the downside of this device was that the door slammed very loudly and closed abruptly. With the advent of modern devices for automatically closing doors, the problem of noise generation has disappeared into oblivion.

The operating principle of a door closer is very simple.

The main working part of this device is a spring and an oil shock absorber, which is responsible for the smooth closing of the door. Through a special valve system, the oil fluid, depending on the direction, flows from one chamber to another during operation.

The operating principle of a door closer is quite simple.

Peculiarities:

  1. The oil moves through a hydraulic system of adjustable channels.
  2. The oil in the mechanism has a rather viscous consistency, thanks to which the opening and closing process is smooth and silent.
  3. The force and speed at which the mechanism operates depends on the type of device.

The parameters are easily adjusted using special adjustment screws. The tighter the screws are clamped, the slower the liquid flows through the channels. You can remove and adjust the door closer with your own hands, having carefully studied the principle of operation of the mechanism.

Installation and configuration of a door closer

Basically, door closers are designed for installation on entrance doors. During installation, the closer body is positioned so that it is located indoors; it is impossible to remove it from the outside. This arrangement of the case provides additional protection of the mechanism from moisture, dust and dirt.

To install a door closer, you will need:

  • Drill;
  • Ruler;
  • A simple soft pencil;
  • Screwdriver.

Mounting materials are included with the mechanism. For ease of installation, most manufacturers complete the device with installation templates, which depict all parts of the closer in full size. Also on these templates you can see the places where it is necessary to make holes for fastenings. Using a template, holes are made in the intended mounting location of the closer. Then they begin to install the device itself. The housing is attached first, which must subsequently be connected to the thrust lever. If you follow the instructions, installing the closer will not take much time.

Door closer installation diagram

As a rule, closers have different designs and locations of adjusting screws. Adjustment of the closer is carried out according to the same scheme, regardless of the design of the device - by rotating the screws clockwise, the speed and strength of the closer increases, or by rotating the screw counterclockwise, it means the door closes slowly.

Most often, a quarter turn is enough to tighten the screw. If you throw off the balance and tighten or unscrew the screw too much, you can completely disrupt the operation of the mechanism, which is then difficult to restore. If adjusted incorrectly, the device can be broken.

Instructions: how to adjust the door closer after installation

After installing the closer, its adjustment is necessary for the optimal rate of closing of the entrance or street door. The speed of door opening must be adjusted using screws located on the front side of the housing under a special protective cover.

This function is especially useful when installing a closer on an interior door.

Slow closing will prevent damage to the walls. There are several additional functions that help you adjust the optimal closing and opening of the door.

The door closer can be adjusted

Clamps with electromagnetic or electromechanical action:

  • Installed on entrance doors;
  • Where the intercom is located;
  • On the door that restricts the access of strangers to the entrance.

This mechanism closes the door completely and can only be opened with a special key. Closers with a delay function are necessary in public places to facilitate access to the premises for people with disabilities. Most often the delay is set to 30-40 seconds. The closer adjustment is applied when closing the door at the last stage. This feature makes it easier to snap the lock and helps prevent heat from escaping quickly from the room.

Adjusting the door closer during operation

If you need to manually adjust the pace of closing and opening the door, you need to pay attention to the basic rules and nuances of the process. Each device comes with detailed instructions that will help you carry out this process correctly.

You can adjust the door closer during operation according to the instructions

Basic adjustment steps:

  • The first screw must be turned half a turn counterclockwise to adjust the reach;
  • A second quarter turn clockwise speeds up opening;
  • The third screw, which is located on the side of the body, regulates the force of movement.

It is very important to remember that in order to loosen or strengthen the tempo, the screws cannot be unscrewed more than 2 turns. This action will result in oil leakage. It is impossible to repair the door closer at home. For this reason, adjustments should be made carefully, following all instructions from the manufacturer's instructions.

Quite often the closer needs additional adjustment. If the closer works hard, and when opening the door, you need to make an effort, then you need to loosen the screws, and the door will work smoothly. Sometimes it becomes necessary to keep the door open all the time; loosening the screw completely will help with this.

The screw holds the door open as long as necessary.

The screws can be located on the side or on the front, it all depends on the mechanism. You can find out the location of the screws by looking at the instructions, where the manufacturer indicates the location of all the parts and components of the closer. Today, several models of door closers that are easy to operate, install and adjust are in great demand.
