To bring the interior to perfection, it is important to be able to correctly apply the finishing touches. To do this, you can use decorative details that match the overall style of the room. Many stylists consider a worthy element of interior improvement decorative pillows.

Decorative pillows: a variety of ideas

Today, for the interior, it is not difficult to choose many options for such cute little things that will decorate the room in any style. As the embodiment of comfort and coziness, they were very popular not only with the eastern khans and sheikhs, whose sofas and floors were simply covered with pillows. Moreover, in Russia, many believe that the name of this item comes from its location - “under the ear.” But in fact, the pillow got its name from its original filling.

The fact is that initially our ancestors filled pillows not with down, but with hay, herbs, and fragrant flowers, which were like an outlet. The infusion herbs were usually selected with an aroma or spirit that calms, helps to relax and sleep. Today, in any home, you can place a comfortable pillow on an armchair, on a bed, or even on the floor. They are sewn specifically for cars to make it more comfortable for passengers in the seats on the road. They even came up with special hug pillows that allow you not only to rest your head, but also to warm up in a soft embrace. Such a detail will calm a crying child, and give a lonely person its warmth and tranquility. Floor-standing options of different sizes help you comfortably sit on the floor to read, listen to music, watch TV or chat with friends.

This creation is called “boyfriend pillow”

But decorative pillows on the sofa have two specific purposes. Firstly, these are soft objects, leaning on which you can take a position that is comfortable for your back on the sofa. Secondly, it is a decoration that matches the overall style of the interior.

Usually pillows are made bright, cheerful, and classic interiors– more restrained. Ruffles, frills, decorative cords, beads, ribbons, muslin and other cute little things are used for decoration. But at the same time, the pillow should remain comfortable, so the decorations are placed at the ends, which will not end up under the cheek or shoulder of the resting person. The shape of these objects also varies: from traditional rectangular or square to round and triangular.

Samples in the form of hearts, flowers, leaves and even full-fledged soft toys are also fashionable. But no design or shape will make a pillow comfortable if it is filled with non-plastic material, has a scratchy lining, or is oversaturated with voluminous decorations that can rest against the body during sleep or rest. Therefore, when purchasing or making this decorative item yourself, it is important to pay attention to all these points. Well, if this item is purchased only as a decoration, then you can allow the placement of hard objects on flat surfaces.

We do it ourselves

You can make decorative pillows with your own hands without any special technical skills, you just need to use your imagination. But to create these seemingly simple objects, you will have to put in a lot of effort, painstaking work, as, indeed, with any other creativity. You will also have to prepare materials and tools for work in advance. So, the first thing you will need is fabric as the main material, the choice of which has no restrictions. Especially if the item will serve a purely decorative function. Therefore, for this option, the fabric is selected based on the principle of ease of working with it and the spectacular appearance of the product; it is only important to use your imagination. You can choose the material used for upholstery. Linen and cotton, as well as knitted, canvas, denim, felt and fleece fabrics are often used.

This picture shows how to sew a gathered pillowcase. As you can see, nothing complicated

You can make a pillowcase from an old sweater

Regardless of the use of the pillow, fur trim with long or short pile is used in its manufacture. pillow with my own hands You can even sew it from materials left over from old clothes. You can knit or crochet it, which will look simply amazing and very stylish.

Fabric for pillowcases is often combined, resulting in an original, exclusive item. In this case, it is better to use fabric that is similar in texture. It is important to ensure that fabric that does not stretch does not meet stretch fabric. This is due to the fact that such a combination may result in a shapeless monster rather than an elegant interior decoration. Any person who owns a needle and thread can make original ones that can be found on the Internet.

Decorating a pillow without sewing. Take a pillow and a suitable piece of fabric

Wrap the pillow in fabric

Fold the raw edge over and glue it to the pillow

But sheathing alone is not enough: you need to fill it with suitable material. Oddly enough, cotton wool is not suitable for stuffing, as it clumps very quickly, which can result in an uncomfortable bun. Sintepon is more suitable for filling. Of course, it also tends to lose a little volume, especially when the pillow is used not just as decoration, but also for its intended purpose. A ideal option filling can be synthetic fluff and fibertek. They are unique in the sense that they are not prone to caking, bunching, or causing an allergic reaction, so they can be used for stuffing baby pillows. These materials regain their original fluffiness and volume even after several washes. You can buy them in the fabric department or faux fur. You can also use foam rubber, which will be especially convenient when filling the roller.

This pillow is also made quickly and without special effort

Just sew a pillowcase bigger size, than necessary, and pull the fabric into bundles

Like this. Just pull it off and tie it tightly. You can even flash it

Foam rubber of any thickness can be selected at a building materials store. As an exception, pillowcases can be stuffed with fur and even scraps of fabric. True, a thing with such padding may turn out to be sloppy. But when making a floor cushion from rough material, this can become quite suitable option. You can also sew an original, comfortable cover for the finished pillow.

But it's not enough just sew a decorative pillow: it needs to be properly decorated. This stage completely depends on the imagination of the master. And there are so many examples of decoration that it’s impossible to even just list them all.

For such beautiful decor you will need several meters of fabric and a couple of hours of time, but the result is worth the cost

So, take a long strip of fabric (10 centimeters wide) and fold it in half

Sew the fabric as shown in the photo

Now pass a strong thread along the entire length and tighten it

Sew the ribbon onto the pillowcase in a spiral

This way you can decorate a pillow of any shape - round, square or elongated.

  1. The most popular are elements from accessories: ribbons, braid, cords, buttons, sequins, buckles, zippers, lace and other cute elements.
  2. Fabric from which you can make applique, voluminous flowers or bows can also become separate decorative elements.
  3. Can be used acrylic paints for textiles, embroidery, decorative stitches in the form of various types of seams and many other techniques.

When making any decorative item from fabric, it is important to use high-quality threads. They must match the color and thickness of the fabric. Knitting threads and floss can be used, especially when making decorative seams by hand. The same threads are suitable for making tassels during decoration. The tools you will have to stock up on are needles, scissors, crayons, which can be replaced with soap, markers, pencils, and pens for transferring the pattern onto the fabric.

Beautiful pillow with felt butterflies

First we make the pillowcase blank

We cut out a butterfly template from cardboard and use this template to cut out felt butterflies for the future pillowcase

We pin them to the places where they will “sit”. It can be in a row, or it can be in random order.

In addition, to make complex patterns, you need paper with which to model these patterns, as well as other sewing tools that are usually used in such cases. If the pillowcase is knitted, you will need to prepare hooks or knitting needles of the appropriate size. And if embroidery is used, you will need tools for this needlework.

It is convenient to perform these processes with a sewing or knitting machine. But you shouldn’t be upset without them, because a hand-sewn pillow with a simple needle will make the item not only beautiful, but also exclusive; it will just take a little longer to complete. And our needlewomen have enough patience to sew even entire blankets and rugs by hand different techniques, including patchwork, which requires an investment of no less colossal labor than when sewing a pillow.

This pillow requires a little time and the ability to sew on a machine.

You need to take fabric blanks for the pillowcase itself...

...and a ribbon of the color you want for the frills

We attach the ruffles at one end to the front side of the pillowcase...

...and sew the ribbons lengthwise to the fabric, gathering them into folds

Try to make folds of the same width

When making decorative pillows with your own hands, you should carefully consider the design of the product. One of the most popular options is a tender heart. This thing looks incredibly sophisticated thanks to its original shape and decor. The model is quite simple, sewn from ordinary two squares, but the main thing in it is the selection of worthy jewelry.

  • First you need to cut circles from fabric for which suitable fabric, which will not crumble without edge treatment. Moreover, these circles should not have an ideal shape and absolutely identical sizes.
  • You need to fold the circles, wrapping them around each other to get a kind of flower.
  • The folds are secured with thread near the base of the resulting flower.
  • The finished flowers are laid out in a heart shape on the pillow.
  • The formation of the image begins with a contour, and then gradually fills it inner part.
  • The flowers are sewn on quite tightly, which will make the heart quite lush. After finishing laying out the heart, all that remains is to fluff it up a little, rubbing all the petals with your hands.

You can not sew the entire item from scratch, but only decorative pillowcases. In this case, you can use any decorative techniques. But just as it is better to build a house than to rebuild it, it is better to make a pillow from A to Z. This will allow you not to be limited in choosing the shape. An example of such a product would be a hexagonal pad with tassels.

For such an unusual pillow you will need burlap and a narrow red ribbon.

Sew a regular pillowcase from burlap

Attach the heart template and outline it with ribbon, threading it straight through the fabric

Unusual shape It is performed using the patchwork technique - sewing scraps of fabric into one pattern or a whole product. You can take fabric in only two colors, but such a thing looks much more interesting if it is made of sectors different colors. The main condition for a successful craft is correct selection harmonious colors. They will help you in making one, which can be found on the Internet. Using this video, you can also duplicate the implementation of a hexagonal pillow. To sew it you will need exactly 12 triangles of the same size. First you need to build a pattern on paper, and then redraw it on fabric. After cutting out, the triangles are sewn together on the wrong side of the product. Thus, two canvases are made, which are folded facing inward and stitched. Be sure to leave an unstitched area, which is subsequently filled with stuffing and sewn up after turning the pillowcase inside out. And if you try to make such a pillow once, the excitement of needlework will never let you go.

Volumetric heart made of roses

A handmade pillow can be a wonderful gift. Armed with imagination and a thread and a needle, you can even turn it into a unique Valentine’s card. We are offering to you step-by-step master class making an unusual pillow with a voluminous heart.

To work you will need:

  • ready-made pillow of the desired size;
  • fabric for roses, which does not require overcasting the cut;
  • scissors;
  • needle and thread.
Cut circles with a diameter of approximately 8 cm from the fabric; they may be slightly crooked and slightly different in size. This will only add volume and realism to the flowers.

Take the circle of fabric by the middle, gather it, forming folds as in the photo. Secure the workpiece in the desired position with a couple of stitches.

Sew another circle of fabric from the bottom, forming a voluminous bud.

Continue sewing circles onto the rose until you get the desired size flower.

Prepare the remaining roses using the same scheme. Their number depends on the size of the flower heart.

Sew the flowers to the pillow starting with the outline of the heart.

Place the pieces tightly together so that there are no gaps between them. A magnificent heart is ready to conquer and conquer hearts.

Such designer pillow will decorate the room of a capricious fashionista or become the highlight of your living room. And she will lift your spirits just by looking at her.

Fluffy pillow

An original pillow with fringe will fit well into any interior. Pleasant to the touch fleece will make it a favorite thing not only in the children's room.

To work you will need:

  • fleece for the base of the pillow and fringe;
  • filler;
  • scissors;
  • threads;
  • pins;
  • sewing machine.
Cut two 40 x 40 cm squares from fleece.

It is better to choose a fabric for fringe several colors of the same range- you will get a stylish transition between them. In our case, we use 10 strips of 37*10 cm in three shades of brown.

Fold each strip in half and cut the fringe.

Sew the first strip to the base of the pillow, 1 cm from the edges. This is the result you should get.

Next, bend the fringe to one side.

Sew a second strip next to it at a distance of approximately 1.5 cm from the first.

Continue sewing the fringe in the same way. Alternate dark stripes with light ones through several rows, achieving a beautiful and smooth transition of colors.

Place a second square on top of the fringed piece and pin along the edges. Sew the pillow around the perimeter, leaving a small hole for stuffing.

Turn the pillow inside out and stuff it with filling. It is better to use padding polyester or holofiber. Natural materials, such as cotton wool and fluff, can clump over time and the product will lose its neat appearance.

Sew the opening with a blind stitch.

It turns out to be a very beautiful sofa cushion that will create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort in your home.

Pillow "Butterfly Wings"

We present to you detailed photo lesson on decorating interior pillows. Even if sewing is not your thing, you can easily master it: you will need a ready-made pillow for the job. Guided by step by step instructions, you will turn an ordinary pillowcase into a masterpiece of art design.

Pillow-toy “Owl”

A funny and bright owl is a win-win gift option for both adults and children. When such a cute bird settles in your baby’s bedroom, he will be happy not only to sleep with it, but also to play with it.

To work you will need:

  • cotton in two colors;
  • felt for eyes and beak;
  • black buttons or beads for the pupils;
  • ribbon for bow;
  • chalk;
  • threads;
  • needle and pins for sewing;
  • scissors;
  • lace;
  • filler.
Transfer the owl pattern to paper in the desired size.

Attach the pattern to the fabric and cut out the necessary parts; make an allowance of 1 centimeter for the body and wings.

To decorate the toy, lace, bows and a wooden flower button are used. If you are using a life-size pattern, then cut out a rectangle of 8*16 cm and a square with a side of 4.5 cm for the bow, or change the size of these parts in proportion to the owl.

Sew the beak and lace using a zigzag stitch. The lace is placed in the center of the body, between the wings.

Using the same seam, sew on the wings and eyes. Hand attach the black pupil buttons.

Fold the parts of the owl's body right sides inward, secure with pins and sew. Leave a hole at the bottom between the wings for further manipulation.

Turn the toy inside out, iron it and fill it with stuffing. If you used ordinary scissors to cut out the parts, before turning them inside out, make neat notches near the ears and in all convex places so that the fabric does not tighten.

Sew the hole closed with a blind stitch.

You can do some decorating. Fold the square for the bow into a strip and iron it.

Fold the rectangle in half with the right side facing inward and sew, leaving a 1 cm seam allowance.

Turn it inside out, gather it in the middle and sew on the prepared strip, forming a bow. Sew it to the owl's ear.

Tie a bow from a small piece of ribbon, sew it and a wooden button to the body of the toy.

Such a cute owl will reliably guard your sleep.

Another idea to implement is to sew a respectable eagle owl according to this pattern. It’s enough just to show your imagination and choose the appropriate color scheme and design for the toy.

Pillow with applique “Cat in Love”

An elegant pillow with a cool applique is a wonderful gift for any occasion. With its help, you can confess your feelings or simply cheer up your loved one.

To work you will need:

  • thick white pillowcase 35*35cm;
  • cotton shreds in 4 colors;
  • white interlining;
  • iron;
  • 3 green beads for eyes;
  • threads to match the fabric;
  • decorative braid.

Cut out two rectangles 17*13 cm- clouds around the cat and fish. In our case, they are white with orange polka dots. You can choose the color to suit your taste.

The cat's body is a rectangle 16*12 cm, orange with small white polka dots.

Cut a rectangle from white fabric 20*11 cm. From it you will get the eyes and thoughts of a cat.

Cut out a rectangle 10*5 cm made of green fabric for the body of the fish.

Fold the non-woven fabric with the adhesive side to the wrong side of the rectangles and iron them so that they stick together. This will make it easier to cut out small parts and they will not crumble.

Cut out the blanks for the applique. You can use cardboard templates or immediately cut out parts from fabric.

Arrange the elements on the pillowcase and achieve the desired image. Mark the ground line using decorative tape. Choose the expression of the cat's loving eyes.

Once you have decided on the location of all the elements of the application, you can begin last stage. All that remains is to sew them to the pillowcase.

Using a small white zigzag stitch, stitch the outline of the white cloud to the polka dot cloud.

Using a green zigzag, sew the outline of the fish to the prepared two-layer cloud. Embroider the fish's fins and the outline of the head. Attach an eye bead.

Sew the parts of the cat with a fine zigzag using threads to match the fabric. Lastly, attach the eyes and embroider his mustache.

Embroidered paws will add even more charm to the animal. You can add to the application small flowers to make the composition more expressive.

The finished pillow will definitely take the crown place on the sofa in the living room and will become the star of your interior.

Scops owl pillow “Sleeping kitten”

Want even more cats? We are offering to you interesting idea for creativity: sew a charming kitten, which by its very appearance will evoke slumber and peace.

To work you will need:

  • cotton fabric 3 colors;
  • fleece;
  • interlining;
  • scissors;
  • iron;
  • filler;
  • chalk or special marker for fabric;
  • floss threads;
  • 2 buttons;
  • pins;
  • pattern.
First of all, print out the kitten pattern on paper or redraw it by hand. Cut out all the elements.

Place the body pattern on the fabric, trace and cut it out with a 1 cm allowance. Place the part with the wrong side on the adhesive side of the interlining, secure with pins and cut out. Prepare the second piece of the fleece body in the same way.

Cut out the kitten's paws, ears and tail.

Remove the pins and iron the two-layer body parts so that the cotton adheres to the interlining.

Fold the parts of the ears, legs and tail in pairs with the right sides inward and sew them on a machine, leaving holes for turning them inside out. Cut the stitched blanks with curly scissors or make regular notches.

Turn the parts inside out and iron them, stuff them with filler. Sew the holes with a zigzag. Use pins to attach the resulting pieces to the front side of the cat's front. Sew them to the kitten's body using a zigzag.

Draw the cat's face with chalk.

Place the fleece piece (back) on top and secure it with pins. Sew the pieces together, leaving a small hole at the bottom for turning inside out. Trim the seam allowances with curly scissors or make regular notches.

Turn the workpiece right side out and iron it. Fill the toy with filler and sew up the hole left earlier with a hidden seam.

Sew the upper legs and buttons for decoration to the body.

Embroider the nose and closed eyes with floss threads.

Decorate pillowcases with plant prints

An original way to decorate a pillowcase floral ornament- is to transfer onto it the imprints of living fresh grass and leaves. A product with this design will be unique and one of a kind. It will also warm you up on winter evenings with thoughts of warm summer.

To work you will need:

  • natural light fabric;
  • freshly picked plants;
  • hammer;
  • scissors;
  • parchment, preferably siliconized for baking.

Fern, plantain, and clover are perfect for prints. Pick the plant you need, spread it on the fabric and cover with parchment. Beat it very hard with a hammer so that the juice comes out of the leaves, which is absorbed into the fabric and forms an imprint. Remember: Plants need to be picked on a hard, flat surface.

Experiment with different leaves, stems and their arrangement to get the desired result.

Soft educational pillow book

It’s easy to sew a book yourself that develops a soft toy: sheets of pages - double material with a layer of padding polyester - they are sewn together, forming the most ordinary book, it is unusual only in that everything in it is made of fabric, and therefore is easily washed, does not tear, and you can play with it from the moment the child begins to grab something with his little ones handles.
I had liked this book for a long time, but at that time the baby was only in the plans, and my friends did not have small children yet - there was absolutely no one to sew. I thought - if I were a mother, I would definitely sew such a toy for my child... and I kept this idea in my head for a while. And so, when my little baby began to actively kick me in the stomach, work gave way to maternity leave - I got down to business.

I came across the idea for the book on the Internet from other mothers who really wanted to sew something unusual, soft, and therefore completely safe for their baby. Inspired by their wonderful books, I decided to definitely make a similar one for my child. It’s not difficult, there’s a lot of material at home, and there was plenty of time, and I was just sitting at home on maternity leave at the time.

The idea is simple: sheets of page - double material with a layer of padding polyester - are sewn together, forming the most ordinary book, it is unusual only in that everything in it is made of fabric, and therefore is easily washed, does not tear, and you can play with it from the moment the child began to grab something with his small hands.

The theme of the applications can be absolutely anything - animals, berries and fruits, cars. Since I love to sew, I use various pieces of material, unnecessary scraps with beautiful pictures a whole bag, I would even say a BAG! I made my book from what I found at home, and I found a piece of calico from a sheet. It showed a cheerful score. A number and a picture for it. Three kittens, five hedgehogs and so on. This is what I took as a basis.

I sewed cut-out appliqués in a zigzag pattern, sewed on beautiful baby buttons in some places, and added Velcro and bows in others.

If beautiful material There are no houses with different pictures, then you can buy thermal applications, their only disadvantage is the price.

the main objective- make the book bright, interesting for the child, with clear pictures, use different materials To develop fine motor skills, it would be nice to insert a squeaker or a fishing bell somewhere, if possible, of course.

Page 1 - Elephant, the sun can be pulled by the rays, flowers are put on a button with a ladybug.

Page 2 - a bear with a pocket, in the pocket you can hide small toys, cookies and candies for the bear :)

Page 3 - example 2-1=1 made in the form of flowers, one flower with Velcro, the second with a button. It is clearly visible that there were 2 flowers, one was removed. How much is left? Simple and clear teaching of counting

Page 4 - a pocket with two bunnies, and in the pocket there are 2 carrots. The carrots are soft, sewn on with an elastic band. The tail of the carrot is “grass” thread, the carrot itself is made of orange jersey. It is very useful for little children's fingers to feel fabrics of different textures, so rest assured that all your efforts will not be in vain! You can pull the carrots, the rubber band stretches and, if you let go, the carrots fly apart.

Page 5 - example 5-2=3 made on the basis of bows. Of the five bows, two are untied, the rest are simply sewn on.

Page 6 - three kittens and three cherries. Cherries are bright and develop color perception in a child. Cute kittens generally evoke a lot of positive emotions in children. Well, besides, we again repeat the count and how pussies meow :). Page 7 - 4 ducklings and 4 pears. We count ducklings and pears, touch small button pears with our fingers. And at the same time we teach that pears grow on trees, and ducklings quack, “Quack, quack.”

Page 8 - Applique: elephant (cut from fabric (calico) and sewn with a zigzag along the contour to the flannel base), again fine motor skills and sense of touch are developed. We stroke the page with a small hand, let our fingers “remember” the texture of the fabric. The birch tree and the mushroom are simply cut from fabrics of different textures. I embroidered black dots on a birch trunk with black thread.

Page 9 - just 5 chickens and 6 apples.

Page 10 - pocket with a bone for a dog. A bone made of white knitwear, stuffed with padding polyester. The bone is sewn on with an elastic band so that it doesn’t get lost :) I, in general, made a conclusion for myself - as for the book, it’s better to sew on all small and potentially lost objects (carrots, seeds, butterflies, flowers). Everything that is not sewn then has to be collected throughout the apartment. When I was sewing this book, such a thought did not occur to me, and therefore when my daughter began to play with the book (chew it, sit on it, try to tear it in every possible way, etc., etc. - well, everything that a child of six months or a year can do), I I had to urgently revise and complete the book. This is how carrots on an elastic band and a butterfly on a string appeared.

Page 11 - a boat and 4 fish of different colors (children's buttons)

Page 12 - 8 butterflies, one of which has Velcro, you can tear it off and tug. As I wrote above, initially the butterfly was not sewn on a string. This is an already modified, so to speak, version, corrected by circumstances. Yes, yes, after each reading of a book, try playing hide and seek with carrots and butterflies throughout the apartment. This exciting game for "bored" mom and dad :)

Page 13 - pocket with carrots for the bunny. There is a fishing bell inside one of the carrots; the carrot rattles loudly, delights the baby and develops sound perception.

Page 14 - bright fruits and berries, cut from fabrics that feel different to the touch.

This is how page after page was born...

I made the cover for the book from delicate chintz with daisies, glued a cute Dalmatian dog onto the cover and quilted it with padding polyester.

The book turned out to be voluminous and soft, you can cuddle with it, sleep, and play with it. You can also play interesting game. For example, hide a piece of candy or a small toy in one of the pockets of a book and ask the child to find it.

1. The cover carries information about accessories to its owner, whose photograph is inserted into the cloud. And getting to know rainbow, where Every Hunter Wants to Know Where the Pheasant Sits.

2. Second cover with a soft and bright mitten containing inside secret- a piece of fur trap (unexpectedly!) and a small silk bag of peas.

3. Ladybug: wings at buttoned and behind zipped up. From If you hit him, he will fly “to the sky to his children.”

4. Octopussy: Wonderful rustling head and hiding rubber legs that are so funny pull!

5. A car is already an introduction to traffic rules. To “turn on” the desired traffic light signal, you need two eyes close with fingers. The dog driver can get out of the car (with Velcro) and change the tire (turn away). Headlights are yellow, brake lights are red. Pedestrian crossing in front of a traffic light. It's raining from a cloud.

6. The shoe requires lacing.

7. Sun - attached to the eyes - buttons, and every ray is perfect different to the touch!
8. Butterfly on a flower. Each petal of a flower rustles differently and feels different to the touch. And the butterfly may lose its wings and leave one caterpillar to have fun.

9. House. The four residents of the house are hidden behind their multicolored geometric windows and doors fastened to different fasteners.

10. Aquarium. The inhabitants hold on with Velcro. There are treasures at the bottom, algae grows in the water and bubbles rise.

11. A butterfly sat on a snail (on the button). And in the snail itself and the grass underneath it live different bugs (beads), which are good to drive on the tracks.
12. Vase with flowers. Flower petals have different texture. The flower is held on a button or snap. The bow on the vase is tied.

The pages are held together with Velcro and are easy to assemble and disassemble.

DIY pillow book “Look, touch, rattle, rustle”

Master class from Natalia Nichepurenko

Recently, my youngest daughter Dashenka turned 6 months old, she no longer wants to lie in one place, for example, in a play center - a rug with arcs. Studying pictures in books on your own is problematic, since everything ends up in the mouth or torn. Then I decided to sew her an exclusive book that performs maximum functions:
- allows you to get acquainted with different textures by touch
- teaches simple skills (unfastening buttons, zippers, lacing, Velcro, ties)
- demonstrates a variety of colors
- makes various sounds (rattles, rustles, crackles)
- introduces us to the objects around us
- can be used as a pillow during the game
Having gathered together the swarming ideas, all suitable materials(mostly natural: cotton, linen, leather) and patience (I must say, this is a rather painstaking task) I began to make a small “masterpiece”.
I cut out 12 22x30 cm pages of different colors from cotton and duplicated them with non-woven fabric.
Almost all appliques are sewn with a zigzag stitch with a step width close to 0.
The soft looped part of the contact tape (Velcro) is sewn onto the page parts, Velcro with tenacious hooks is sewn onto the underside of the removable parts.
Details of appliqués and removable items are glued with serpyanka or dublerin.
For rustling details, a layer of bags (like pasta) is inserted between the layers of fabric.

How to sew a pillow with your own hands? Every needlewoman thought about this. A pillow is needed not only for sleeping; with its help you can make your apartment design complete and original.

Having seen enough photos of homemade pillows on the Internet, you might think that sewing requires experience and talent. But having understood the process of creating a pillow, it turns out that it is not at all difficult.

Let's figure out how to make a pillow with your own hands?

The most important thing to know before you start

Before you start sewing a decorative pillow with your own hands, you need to decide exactly how it will look. But more important than this is choosing the fabric and filling.

If you want to make a multi-functional pillow, it is important to choose a fabric that can be easily cleaned. The filler should not fall into dense lumps for as long as possible, losing its elasticity.

Materials. Textile

To make a durable, practical and beautiful pillow, you need to choose the right fabric.

Firstly, it should not become highly electrified and attract any dust; it can be easily cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.

Secondly, the material must prevent dust from entering the packing. Suitable fabrics:

  • Atlas
  • Crepe satin
  • Furniture upholstery fabrics
  • Bike
  • Linen fabrics

You can use other fabrics besides propylene matting. It is slippery, rough and tough, so for soft pillow won't do.

Padding

A pillow can be stuffed with many materials. It can be cotton wool, bird down or feathers, foam rubber, padding polyester, holofiber and many others.

Let's look at each filler:

Cotton wool and synthetic padding fall into clumps at great speed. At the same time, it is almost impossible to fill the product evenly with cotton.

Feathers and down are not suitable not only because of difficult availability, but also because of insufficient elasticity. No one will fluff a decorative pillow like a bedroom pillow, so as not to spoil the beautiful finish.

Holofiber is easily available and comes in two forms: sheets and in the form of fluffy granules. Sheet is more expensive, it can be replaced with cheaper foam rubber. Holofiber is well suited for a pillow. It serves for about 10 years without slipping.

Another filler option is round silicone granules. They are best for baby pillows because they are hypoallergenic and can be easily poured out, rinsed, dried and put back in through a small hole.

Decoration. Colors

The easiest way to decorate the interior is to do it with pillows of different colors. Of course, they must fit color scheme to interior items: furniture, curtains or even walls.

It is sometimes a difficult task to achieve a combination - but a very popular one. From pillows different colors you can create an ensemble that will highlight all the advantages of the interior.

The most interesting thing is that the idea of multi-colored pillows is not only easy to implement, but also affordable.

Note!

Do not opt only for plain fabrics; materials with patterns and ornaments will look advantageous.

Seal

Recently, printing on fabrics has become increasingly popular. Why not print on your pillow? This affordable option decoration of your product: printing prices are not very high, the design is durable and clear.

With the help of numerous computer programs you can make a design in advance and even see how the ensemble will look in the interior.

Form and fragment

Pillows can be made in absolutely any shape. There are no restrictions in this, the main thing is to show your imagination. You can use the modular sewing technique. To do this, several simple parts are made, which are subsequently stitched in place into a complex product.

The downside of this method is that it is quite difficult to clean. It is necessary to either completely disassemble the product or use a furniture vacuum cleaner.

Note!

Patchwork or patchwork is also used. Most often, they take the key fragment and place it in the center. The fragments that match it are located along the periphery. Simple, but very effective!

Key element

Compact key element adds elegance decorative pillow. Such an element can be a button, tassels, bows and much more. There are no restrictions here either.

You can elevate a product made from modest fabric using key element. With his help ready product will look richer and more expensive, so you can use technical or furniture upholstery fabrics that are not brightly colored.

Knitting, embroidery, lace

Knitted sofa cushions It’s more difficult to do than just sewing it from fabric. You must be able to knit or crochet - this is a labor-intensive craft that requires care.

However, like embroidery. You can embroider any subject on the pillow using satin stitch, cross stitch or ribbons. Here, too, everything depends on your skill, imagination and perseverance.

You can also decorate the product with lace. Of course, it’s easier to buy ready-made lace in a store, but it will be much more expressive if you make the lace yourself.

Note!

Just imagine the faces of your guests when they see pillows made entirely by your own hands.

To make a pillow, you can use, for example, an old sweater. The effect will be the same as from a self-knitted cover. If desired, it can be decorated with various beads, buttons, and so on.

Embroidery on pillows

As mentioned earlier, you can decorate a pillow with any embroidered designs, but they cannot be done using any technique that you own.

Therefore, do not embroider with beads on the pillow. Why? It's simply unhygienic. It will be difficult to wash out all the dirt from under the beads, but what gets into the beads itself will remain there forever. And think about it: will it be comfortable to lie on such a pillow?

Cross stitch is best because it is the most durable. You can wash such a product without worrying about the threads coming out. You can use satin stitch, but when washed, the threads weaken and the design loses its attractiveness.

From old clothes

So, you can make a pillow out of old sweaters, but what else can I use? Whatever! Old T-shirts, sweaters, tank tops - everything that is lying around in your closet and is waiting in line for the landfill.

You can even use jeans. The product will not be so soft, but will look very original.

Figurines

These pillows will fit perfectly into a child's room. They can simply stand on the bed or even a shelf, pleasing the eye and completing the design of the nursery. They can serve as toys or fulfill their intended purpose.

A figurine pillow can be of any shape, the main thing is that you and your children like it.

Funny letters

With the help of such pillows, your child will learn letters faster. Often letters or numbers are sewn for the holidays. Letters can also serve as toys too.

Sometimes it’s not very comfortable to sleep on them, but they look great in the interior.

For the manufacture of capital letters It’s better to use foam rubber and fill only the edges with holofiber. You can stuff any large pillows this way.

Sides

Every mother of a baby knows the problem: how to protect the child from blows while sleeping in a crib? The child has already been saved from falling out of the crib, but what to do with these hard sides that the child constantly hits in his sleep?

You can also sew a pillow for these purposes! Foam rubber is best suited for sides. It is dense and will not allow the child to feel the fence upon impact.

You can sheathe any foam rubber soft cloth, to which the child will not be allergic. To keep the pillow side in place, you need to sew on fabric ties that will hold the pillow in the crib.

Any pillow, regardless of its shape, size and design, will fit perfectly into any interior.

Easy to make and not requiring special talent or skills, these products will transform a boring and dull apartment into an original and cozy place for relax.

  • needles;
  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • paper for patterns (any - newspapers, magazine pages, old notebooks);
  • fabric for pillow;
  • pillowcase fabric;
  • filler.

Choose high-quality and natural fabrics for the pillow

For a pillowcase you can take fleece, plush, velor, knitwear and even fur - it all depends on your imagination. if you have free time and knitting or crocheting skills, a pillowcase can be knitted. But do not forget that the threads must be of high quality and hypoallergenic.

About the filler

The comfort of a pillow for pregnant women depends on the quality of the filler. It should be soft enough, but at the same time retain its shape well. In addition, you need to take into account other important criteria: hypoallergenicity, ease of care (after all, even such a large pillow will have to be washed), as well as your personal preferences for hardness and elasticity.

First of all, go to a store that sells products for pregnant women and ask the seller about how much the pillow weighs and what it is filled with. At the same time, you can choose the appropriate style. This will help you figure out how much filling you need to buy for your homemade pillow. The filler itself can be of several types:

  • polystyrene foam balls;
  • buckwheat husk.

The most popular type of filler is polystyrene foam in balls (foam plastic). It holds the shape of the product perfectly and does not sag due to its elasticity. Hypoallergenic, easy to clean, environmentally friendly, repels odors. It is very important that this material does not attract bacteria, mold and mites. There is one drawback: over time, the foam decreases in volume by about 20% due to air loss. In addition, some women complain that the rustling of the balls in the pillow makes it difficult to fall asleep.

Expanded polystyrene is the most popular filling for pregnant pillows

Holofiber is soft and elastic

Synthetic down (synthetic down) is similar in almost all qualities to holofiber.

Synthetic fluff is cheaper than holofiber

Buckwheat husk is an absolutely environmentally friendly product with which you should not be afraid of allergies.. True, the pillow will turn out to be a little heavy, and such a filler is not cheap.
