How to make a plywood countertop with your own hands. A few examples of how to make a table from plywood, a pallet or a table top. Design fantasies in fashionable furniture interpretations

One of the most inexpensive tables to make is a table made of plywood. In this article we will step by step analyze the technology of making a table from plywood. Plus, we include photographs of production, a drawing and even video instructions, which you will find at the bottom of the page.

Tools and material for making a plywood table

Tool:
Jigsaw
Screwdriver
Sander
Construction corner
Construction tape (meter)
Pencil or pen
Construction line
Wood drill - 5 mm. diameter

Material:
Sheet of furniture plywood - 152x152 cm.
Masking tape
Furniture bolts
Furniture corners
Wood screws

As for the table drawing, everything is simple. We make: 2 legs measuring 76 cm high, 46 cm wide, a table top measuring 100 cm long, 60 cm wide and a stiffening bar measuring 77 cm long, 52 cm wide.

Making a countertop

To make a tabletop, we need to cut a sheet of plywood in half into two parts. As you remember, we took a sheet of plywood measuring 152x152 cm.
Dividing the sheet in half, we got two rectangles measuring 152x76 cm. Here, one of the squares will go on the tabletop, measure 100 cm in length and 60 cm in width, draw lines with a pencil or pen.

By the way, many people wonder how to cut plywood without tearing it. We answer this question, if you remember, then in the list of materials we mentioned molar tape. So, take this tape and glue it tightly, then rub it against the line that we drew, look at the photo:

If you still have questions, you can watch a video on this topic at the bottom of the page. There we show in detail how to prevent plywood from tearing when cutting.

We take a jigsaw and cut along the lines that we drew. Peel off the leftovers masking tape on all sawn sides. Now, let's take round shape, we took a metal bowl, you can use whatever you like. And we put it on the corners of the tabletop, so that we form a semicircle, that is, we round off the sharp corners, something like this:

We make curves on all four corners and also tape along the lines. Carefully saw off with a jigsaw.

After sawing and removing the remaining masking tape, you need to take grinder, put a sanding belt with grit size No. 100 on it and sand rounded corners.

The tabletop is almost ready, all that remains is to sand down all the unevenness on the surface of the plywood. Taking into account the fact that the plywood is more or less even, it won’t take much time, this is how the tabletop will ultimately look like:

Let's start making the table stiffener

Stiffening bar or otherwise called lateral stability. It plays the role of a support for the table, thanks to this strip we will fix the legs of the table and the table top, thus eliminating the instability and the structure will become stable.

We take the second half of the sheet and mark the rectangle - 77x52 cm. We also cover the lines with tape and cut them with a jigsaw.

As for the pattern of the cross bar, you can watch from the video how to make markings in the shape of a wave. After the markings have been applied and sawed off, you should end up with a table rigidity bar like this:

Making two table legs

It is difficult to make a plywood table with four legs, so we will make two wide, beautiful and voluminous legs. The remainder of the sheet is just enough for two pieces. We mark two rectangles, each measuring 76x46 cm, where 76 cm is the height of the legs, and 46 cm is the width.

Cover with tape and saw off with a jigsaw. You will also find information on how to make markings for a beautiful shape on the sides of the legs in the video clip. We got this drawing:

We cut according to the same pattern. Ready template We transfer the legs to the second rectangle, make markings along it and saw off again. Now we sand all the blanks, except for the tabletop, and this is the set of finished blanks we got:

Assembling the table frame

Let's start assembling the frame of the dining table. We take the lateral stability and put marks where the furniture bolts will be tightened. Be careful here, because it is very easy to make a mistake at this step.

Let's get down to business, take the stiffness bar and divide it into three equal parts. If you did according to our instructions, then you should have marks for drilling holes: the first mark is 7 cm, the second is 26.5 cm and the third is 45 cm. The first mark should be made from the top of the plank, where the tabletop lies .

Take a wood drill with a diameter of 5 mm. and make holes in the ends of the stability bar. The drilling depth should be 5.5-6 cm, since the length of a standard furniture bolt is 5 cm. We transfer the same dimensions that we made on the stiffener bar to the table legs.

We also begin to place marks on top of the legs, where the table top will go. Divide the legs in half widthwise from top to bottom, draw with a pencil thin line and put marks on it at 7 cm, 26.5 cm and 45 cm and make through holes with the same wood drill.

After all the holes are made, take one leg and attach all three furniture bolts. We attach the stability bar and tighten all the bolts with a screwdriver. On the other side we place the second leg and also screw it on.
You will get this table frame:

Now, take the tabletop and place the table frame on top. We measure the same distance over the entire area of the tabletop and screw it in using furniture corners with wood screws.

Since the thickness of the plywood is 18 mm. Wood screws should be 15 mm. The product is ready, all that remains is to process the table (carry out paint and varnish work), here, if desired, you can paint, stain, varnish the product or in any other way.

A coffee table is an interior item that is found quite often, like armchairs, comfortable sofas, chairs, beds. The purpose of the tables is more decorative than functional; small objects, books, newspapers or magazines are stored on them. In rare cases coffee table Can be used as stands for snacks, cups of tea.

In order to make a coffee table from plywood, you need to choose the right material; if it is too thin, then it is better to glue the sheets in two layers.

Most often, tables are factory-made items, but you can also make stylish and attractive things with your own hands from inexpensive materials. The coffee table can be made from plywood. This universal material, which is often used today to make furniture. But factory products are not very imaginative, and sometimes you want to decorate your home with stylish and comfortable items furniture.

A plywood table can be made with carvings and convenient shelves. Products made from glued layers of plywood will look decorative. For this purpose, small parts or whole sheets are used, which are glued together with a special waterproof glue designed for working with wood. After manufacturing, the surface of the table can be coated with varnish, oil, or stain.

Shellac varnish will give the product a more noble surface, which is characteristic of antique beautiful things made from natural wood.

Assembling a table from plywood scraps

During repairs, many people end up with scraps of plywood, which are often simply thrown away as unnecessary. But it is from these pieces that you can assemble an unusual and beautiful coffee table in the Art Nouveau style. It will have two legs, and the tabletop will be in close contact with the walls. You can take a whole sheet of plywood for the table, but it will have to be cut into separate pieces, so it’s better to use waste. If they are not there, then you can always inquire about their availability at construction markets and stores, where they will be happy to get rid of unnecessary materials.

How to make a table like this unusual shape so that it is convenient, compact and decorative? First you will have to prepare the materials and tools that will be needed for the work:

  • a small piece of whole plywood or thick cardboard, which will be needed for the template;
  • pieces of plywood with the same thickness, preferably 18 mm. The number of such pieces should be large, since the main structure will be glued together from them;
  • moisture-resistant glue for working with wooden surfaces;
  • jigsaw;
  • pencil;
  • a circular saw;
  • vice;
  • Sander;
  • oil or varnish for treating the table after assembling it;
  • fasteners for fixing the table to the wall surface.

How to make a table from plywood quickly? First, you need to draw a template on a sheet of paper according to which the legs of the product will be cut. Since the table is made in the Art Nouveau style, it is best to make the legs curved or even openwork. The process of constructing a table begins with drawing up a sketch. On a large sheet of paper in full size you need to draw legs. After this, the drawing is transferred to thick cardboard so that the legs are symmetrical. You can draw only one side, the end result will be smooth and beautiful models.

If the template is ready, then you can start gluing the pieces of plywood. The structure must be made in such a way that its shape follows the shape of the future table legs. After each gluing of 2 parts, it is necessary to remove all excess mortar with a clean cloth, and press the pieces of plywood tightly together to ensure better gluing. When the blanks are ready for the legs, you need to lay them on a flat surface, put a template on top and trace them with a simple pencil. Now you can cut out the resulting structure with a jigsaw.

Tabletop preparation and wood processing

With the countertop everything is a little more complicated. You want to get a beautiful pattern, so it’s best to glue the pieces of plywood at an angle so that they meet in the center. The angle of inclination of the parts that will be located from the edges to the center should be the same, then the drawing will turn out very beautiful. After gluing and the glue has dried, the tabletop should also be cut according to the template. When you make such a table, you should end up with 3 separate parts - two legs and a table top. They need to be made attractive appearance, remove all sharp corners.

Using a grinding machine, it is necessary to carefully and very carefully process the entire surface of each workpiece so that it becomes smooth and beautiful. There should be no burrs, sharp edges or corners left. After the surfaces are processed, it is necessary to assemble the table; ordinary screws can be used for fastening. The structure can be attached to the wall with special metal corners, which must be placed so that they are not visible from the outside. Now the main thing remains - you need to make the surface of the coffee table beautiful and stylish.

For decoration, it is recommended to use shellac varnish, which will give the product a noble matte surface. natural wood. Since the pieces of plywood were glued together at an angle, the whole structure takes on a very interesting, original pattern, which in no way resembles that the product is made from ordinary plywood and waste. It is not recommended to use paint for decoration, since the beautiful design will no longer be visible, and the table will take on a normal appearance.

Making from birch plywood

Birch plywood is perfect for constructing a coffee table because it has an attractive appearance, durability, and is very easy to work with. The structure will consist of plywood blanks glued together. The table can have any shape, but you must first draw up a drawing. This will allow you to immediately calculate the amount of material and determine what tools and installation steps will be needed.

To build a small but very attractive coffee table you will need the following materials and tools:

  • birch plywood;
  • moisture-resistant glue specially designed for working with wooden surfaces;
  • wooden pin;
  • oil or varnish for impregnating the future surface of the table;
  • sandpaper;
  • jigsaw;
  • a circular saw;
  • drill.

The manufacturing process consists of the following simple steps:

  • a drawing of the future table is drawn up. In this case, it will be a small structure, the length of which will be 800 mm and the height of 400 mm. Based on these parameters, birch plywood will be cut;
  • It is recommended to draw the drawing in full size, after which it will need to be sent to the printing house so that the templates can be printed on a self-adhesive film on the plotter. Such templates will need to be glued to the surface of the plywood, and then carefully cut out along the edges;
  • All blanks are cut out with a jigsaw, and their edges are completely cleaned of burrs with sandpaper. Markings for fastenings are applied to the surface of the workpieces. Holes are drilled with a drill, then you can start connecting the parts;
  • it is recommended to first carry out preparatory work, and then begin wood processing. The material for the table itself is purchased in the amount of 3 sheets, the dimensions of each are 1200×2400 mm, the sheet thickness should be 18 mm;
  • The work will require 27 blanks. Each should have a size of 400×800 mm, which fully corresponds to the dimensions of the future structure;
  • Holes for fastening are made in each workpiece using a milling attachment. At first, you can prepare only 23 pieces, leaving 4 for further work. The holes must be cut in full accordance with the template so that the table looks attractive and neat.

Among the materials from which a table is made independently, one can highlight plywood. It is famous for the following advantages:

  • easy to handle;
  • withstands light loads, so it can be part of a coffee table;
  • This material is used to make not only furniture for the kitchen, but also for the nursery and any other room;
  • has an attractive appearance;
  • quite practical material;
  • It's inexpensive.

When working with plywood, you need to take into account that a single sheet of plywood is much stronger than one divided into several parts, even if you assemble these pieces most carefully.

If you are making furniture not for the kitchen, then it is better to finish it with varnish or stain; sometimes you can combine these types of treatments.

Material selection

In construction markets they offer big choice plywood for every taste. Which one should you choose?

The material may have different patterns, from the same wood or mixed. If
plywood is of poor quality, then over time cracks will appear in it, in which, when water gets in, fungus and mold will form. It is better, of course, to opt for plywood made from one type of wood. Ideal option there will be a birch tree. It has increased strength, with constant sun rays"doesn't cry."

Basic principles of working with a plywood table

For a product to be functional and durable, you need not only to choose quality material, but also to assemble it correctly. If the product is assembled from pieces, then the assembly process begins only when the pieces are thoroughly dry; excess glue must be removed immediately after application so that the appearance of the product does not deteriorate in the end.

An important point is correct drawing table. The distinctive feature of a plywood product should be its perfect symmetry. If you are going to cut plywood into pieces, then consider whether your jigsaw is suitable for the job. Don't forget that you will need to leave gaps for sanding and getting rid of sharp corners. When you process the material, sand it so that the surface is smooth. An important point is that, in addition to high-quality processing material, it is necessary to firmly fasten the parts together. To prevent cracks when screwing in the screws, drill the holes for them a couple of millimeters narrower.

To ensure that the parts are held in place as securely as possible, you can use wood glue. When you have sanded all the parts, clean them from dust, lubricate them with glue, press the parts tightly together, secure them with clamps and leave them in this position for several days until the glue has completely dried.

How to make a countertop with your own hands: diagram and assembly process

First preparation process. Take all measurements in the kitchen, think about how and where the table will be located. Make a drawing of your countertop. Prepare tools and materials:

  • plywood sheets;
  • if necessary metal corners and plastic for cladding;
  • staples, stapler;
  • wood glue, sealant;
  • hammer;
  • roulette;
  • milling cutter;
  • jigsaw or hand saw;
  • construction knife;
  • screwdriver

Now let's start preparing the parts. Cut out all the necessary parts with a jigsaw and make a hole that is suitable for washing. The lines along which you will cut must be perfectly straight. Connect the surface with the legs if it is a table or with each other if it is a countertop. Self-tapping screws are used to connect parts. Make sure the joint is even. First treat the material with sealant.

The top of the table should not have any errors, burrs or unevenness. To treat the surface, coat it with chipboard primer. Please note that it should contain water instead of oil. This composition will dry in about 12 hours. After drying, open with varnish.

The tabletop can also be covered with plastic. To do this, cut plastic sheets with a gap of a few millimeters larger and glue with special glue.

Making a countertop from plywood with your own hands does not take much time and effort. You will spend a minimum of money and materials, and as a result you will receive an exclusive piece of furniture that you made yourself.

To make from plywood dinner table for the dining room, it can be made round, standing on one massive support. For the drawing you will need a tape measure and a pencil. Cut a perfectly even circle from a piece of plywood. To achieve perfection, you can use this trick: drive a nail in the middle of the intended circle, tie a rope to it, attach a pencil to the end of it and draw a circle on the sheet of paper.

When you cut out a circle (or it can be a square, rectangle, etc.), be sure to sand it, remove burrs and roughness.

Connect the pieces of plywood for the legs together with glue and self-tapping screws. Place the round part of the table on a support and screw it on.

This is how you can easily make furniture with your own hands.

Therefore, if you are a beginner, it is better to consult a specialist. Show him the drawing next photo: You will need two circles (128 cm and 104 cm).

The plywood kitchen table is ready!

Back then, we often found this activity interesting, but useless. And now the time has come to make something very useful - a do-it-yourself plywood table.

From time immemorial, not a single house can do without this element of furniture. It is used for studying, for work, for cooking and eating, and in many other cases. But the current one price policy and its relationship with the quality of finished tables leaves much to be desired.

What is the way out of this situation? It's very simple: you can make a table out of plywood with your own hands.

Preparing the tools

Let's start by selecting the tools necessary for the job. So, we will need:

  • jigsaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • glue;
  • construction square;
  • roulette;
  • sandpaper;
  • pencil;
  • drill;
  • furniture plugs;
  • plywood.

First let's make it simple universal table made of plywood that can be used anywhere. It will look something like this:

Step-by-step instructions: from cutting parts to assembly

Step 1. Making the lid.

Take a sheet waterproof plywood and using a pencil and tape measure, we measure out the size of the rectangle we need (everyone decides for themselves what size table they need).

When the markings on the sheet are ready, carefully cut them out with a jigsaw (or hand circular saw, if the plywood is thick) covers. It is better to use a jigsaw file with a fine tooth so that the cut is neat. Afterwards we process the cut edges (and not only the edges), removing any burrs that have arisen in this way. A sanding machine is suitable for this, but if you don’t have one, we’ll make do with regular sandpaper.

Step 2. We make the end walls of the table (aka “legs”) and the inner wall.

Here our actions are not much different from the previous step: we measure, mark, cut and sand the edges.

To make the table even more stable (or the plywood seems not thick enough), you can cut not two, but four leg blanks, which are twisted in pairs during installation. This way we get two thick end walls.

Step 3. Putting the elements together.

The final stage of work is assembly. First of all, it is necessary to connect the end walls with the inner one. The figure above shows exactly where to screw in the screws. We measure with a tape measure and mark these points on our parts with a pencil. Next, drill holes at the marked points with a drill. The diameter of the drill should be slightly smaller than the screws we use. This is done to prevent the plywood sheets from bursting during assembly. Drilled holes countersink under the heads of the screws so that they do not stick out. We screw the screws into the finished holes.

Now we place the table cover on top and align it with the end walls and screw it to them in the manner described above. Then we put furniture plugs on the heads of the screws or putty them.

For greater strength, the parts can not only be twisted, but also glued together. You can also use furniture corners.

Final processing of the product

We will need varnish, paint or self-adhesive film to look like wood. Some details of coating the product with varnish are described in another article. After this, leave the table for 1.5 - 2 days until completely dry.

You can also use a varnish application method that eliminates brush marks. To do this, move the table to a well-ventilated room with an air temperature of 19-20 C. It is better to choose a brush made of natural bristle with split ends. This brush will allow you to make long strokes.

1. Thin the varnish. Before application, the varnish must be diluted with white spirit in a 1:1 ratio, while stirring slowly. This will help it dry out faster and it will spread better over the surface.

2. Apply the first layer. So, coat the product with a layer of varnish along the grain, without pressing hard on the brush and holding it at a slight angle. After the first coat of varnish has dried (approximately 24 hours), you need to remove any lint (if any remains). We do this using fine-grained sandpaper 220-230K. Having finished the procedure, wipe the surface with a damp (soaked in white spirit) rag. If there are still brush marks on the surface of the product, carefully sand these areas with fine-grained sandpaper.

3. Apply the second layer, keeping the ratio 3:1 (mix the same as the previous time). Let dry and sand again using sandpaper 320K.

4. Apply several layers of undiluted varnish. To obtain maximum effect, sand the surface (600K) and polish it with a felt wheel.

So we finished our debut cutting with a jigsaw and as a result we got a plywood table with our own hands. Usually all this work takes no more than 1 day or even no more than 5 hours (it all depends on the skill of the designer).

Alternative products - transformable table

We have described one of the most simple options plywood table. You can also mount it, for example, not with one inner wall, but with two.

View images various options tables

In addition, there is such a thing as a transforming table. This is a rather interesting category of products that can also be made from plywood, and they are notable for the fact that they can increase their area by 2-3 times.

When not unfolded, the dimensions of the table are small, but after a few efforts it becomes an ordinary dining table.

In conditions small apartment when everyone square meter As a matter of fact, such a plywood table will simply become an indispensable attribute and will fit very well into the interior of your home.

The essence of the assembly plywood tables comes down to one algorithm: draw – cut – connect (assemble) – process the surface. Everything is extremely simple and clear!
