How to install a wooden picket fence with your own hands. How to make a wooden picket fence with your own hands

In Russia, wood has long been widely used as building material. They build from it log houses, window frames, interior items, kitchen utensils. This natural material allows you to create an atmosphere internal comfort and comfort. A wooden picket fence is one of the most popular types fencing in suburban construction, which is simply irreplaceable when arranging a site in a rustic style. Such a fence, on the one hand, outlines the boundaries of the site for us, and on the other, its territory is not obscured.

Picket fences can be given any height, shape, color, and even clearance distances, thanks to which they acquire original look and with their appearance complement the design of the suburban area.

Fence from wooden picket fence used as a secure fence personal plot, an element of territory zoning, decorative framing of beds and flower beds

Stems with flowers, filling the gaps in the gaps between the vertical slats, give the fence a more attractive appearance

The continued popularity of this type of fencing is explained by a number of its parameters and properties, the main ones being:

  • Versatility. Wooden fences fit perfectly into any landscape. They go well with any other bases, organically fitting into an interior made of stone or brick, concrete or metal.
  • Easy to install. Any summer resident or owner can install a picket fence independently. country house without resorting to the services of professional craftsmen.
  • Ease of care. Caring for the fence consists only of timely painting of the surface and eliminating defects that may arise during operation as a result of mechanical stress and seasonal precipitation.
  • Reliability. A high wooden fence will serve not only decorative element landscape design, but also reliable protection owners of the site.

One of the advantages of a picket fence, compared to a traditional solid fence, is the ability to plant plants right at its base.

  • Support pillars. They can be made of metal pipes or thick beams.
  • Picket fences. Narrow slats are made from edged or planed boards.
  • Veins. Cross bars, placed horizontally between the support pillars, 2-2.5 meters long, are made from bars with a cross-section of 40 mm.

When choosing a material to make a picket fence, you can go in two ways: purchase a ready-made picket fence or make it yourself from boards. The first method saves time. The finished fence can be installed on the day of purchase. But significant drawback low-quality raw wood can serve as the basis for a picket fence, which during operation will “drive” the fence. When choosing the second path, the owner will need to make an effort to spend several days making all the elements of the fence. But as a result, he will have a picket fence that fully corresponds to his ideas and wishes.

If the material is not sufficiently dried, it is necessary to use special dryers for wood, because natural conditions drying can take several seasons

The service of drying wood, as well as cutting crossbars and pickets, can be ordered at a place where wood products are manufactured. When preparing the material yourself, you must carefully file down and sand all the tops.

Design options for the tops of a wooden picket fence

The lower part of the wooden support pillars must be coated with hot varnish. This will prevent wood from rotting and extend the life of the structure.

Installation and installation of fencing

The installation of a picket fence is carried out according to the same principle as the construction of other types of fencing. First of all, the direction of the future fence is determined. It must be freed from weeds, bushes and tree branches that will interfere with construction. Then beacons are stretched in the cleared area and a place for the pillars is marked along the stretched cord. The distance between the pillars should not exceed three meters. Otherwise, long spans between supports may cause the crossbars to sag under the weight of the pickets.

Support pillars can be installed directly into the ground, but to create a more durable structure, it is better to construct them using cement-sand mortar.

To install the posts, you will need to dig a hole using a drill, the depth of which is determined by the height of the fence. On average, a depth of 1.3 m is sufficient

The posts are installed on a 20 cm gravel cushion, which helps prevent the support from being squeezed out when the soil freezes. Vertically fixed columns are covered alternately with layers of concrete and soil mortar.

After installing the posts along the line of the fence, you can install veins between them. In principle, there are two ways to install a fence: with the first, the crossbars are first attached between the posts, and then a picket fence is nailed to them, and with the second, the spans are assembled separately and fixed to the supports using blocks.

The first picket is attached vertically, and the rest are aligned according to a T-shaped template, in which the width of the leg of the letter “t” is equal to the pitch of the pickets, and are nailed

On average, the distance between the pickets is equal to the width of the boards themselves. You can secure the crossbars to wooden support posts using self-tapping screws, bolts or regular nails. The veins are attached to the metal posts using a specially welded corner for attaching the timber.

Finishing and decorating the fence

The finished fence leaves only other negatively influencing factors.

It is necessary to seal all cracks and chips with putty compounds, saturate the picket fence with an antiseptic, and then cover it with varnish, stain or paint

Film-forming agents do not adhere well to freshly planed boards and do not last long. To “roughen” the surface of the wood, you can sand it with medium-grain sandpaper.

Stain is an excellent preservative that protects wood from the development of microorganisms and mold

The varnish will protect the wood from moisture. Using stain and clear varnish, you can also imitate various types of wood.

Every owner wants his plot of a country house or cottage to be fenced beautiful fence. Now there are many options for fencing, you just have to choose the one that suits you best both in appearance and affordability.

The golden mean in choosing can be a wooden picket fence, which you can easily make with your own hands, without using the expensive help of a specialist. With the help of a picket fence you can beautifully outline the territory of a country house or cottage and at the same time save a lot of money. Making a wooden picket fence with your own hands is quite simple, you just need to know a few basic rules and features, which we will consider point by point.

A country house or cottage is a place that you want to make especially beautiful and cozy. This is an area for rest, privacy and relaxation. You can achieve the necessary harmony with the help of small details: plant beautiful flowers, make a gazebo, swing, build a good decorative fence. And if you do all this with your own hands, then it will be much more pleasant to admire all this beauty later.

Why picket fence?

A wooden picket fence made by yourself has so many advantages that it is probably simply impossible to count them all, but making a wooden picket fence with your own hands and installing it is quite simple.

Here are the main advantages of such a fence:

  1. This fence is universal. A wooden picket fence simply fits perfectly into almost any design and can add color to the landscape of the area.
  2. The picket fence is quite reliable. Everything, of course, depends on the wood you choose, the height of the fence and the width of the picket fence.
  3. Cheap materials and their availability.
  4. This type of fence is very easy to maintain. You just need to periodically coat the surface with paint or varnish to prevent the possibility of defects.

It is also equally important that the wooden picket fence does not shade the area near the fence, which means that beautiful flowers or other plants can be planted near the fence. And such a fence will perfectly emphasize country style territory or the now equally popular country style.

The picket fence is very easy to work with and different original options the appearance of the structure - in the form of waves, semicircles, triangles and other patterns.

Types of picket fence designs

A wooden picket fence can be of two types - with or without a base. In order to make a wooden picket fence with your own hands with a base, you need to make a foundation for the support pillars and strip foundation under the fence itself. The foundation for a wooden picket fence is made in the form of a trench using an ordinary shovel with your own hands, and it is better to make recesses under the posts using hand drill.

The depth of the foundation should be about one meter. At the bottom you need to fill and compact a cushion of sand or gravel. The support pillars are concreted strictly vertically into the recesses, and formwork must be installed in place of the foundation under the fence. After pouring the foundation, you need to wait about 7 days for the solution to dry and set. After this line has been completed, you can proceed to the next work.

Such a fence is more durable than a picket fence without a foundation, since the base of the picket fence is additionally protected from moisture from the soil. The foundation of such a fence can be covered with torn stone or other material.

A fence without a base is simpler in its design. To construct it, you only need to make holes for the support pillars and, after installing them, compact the soil tightly. The post should go more than a meter into the ground.

If the fence is high and heavy, then a metal plate must be attached to the posts, which will additionally ensure the stability of the post. The plates rest tightly on the ground.

Required materials and tools

To build a wooden picket fence with your own hands, you need the following materials and tools:

  1. Wooden pickets. They can be from different tree species - pine, cedar, larch and others. Pickets are made from narrow edged boards.
  2. Support pillars. Usually these are metal or asbestos pipes, as well as thick beams.
  3. Cross members. Do-it-yourself wooden picket fences use metal or wooden blocks as crossbars for a wooden picket fence.
  4. Hammer.
  5. Nails or screws.
  6. Screwdriver or screwdriver.
  7. Level.
  8. Wood treatment product (paint, varnish, stain).
The bottom of the support posts (if they are wooden) must be treated with a special protective agent from rotting. This will extend the service life of the fence.

Pickets can be purchased ready-made in special stores, or you can make them yourself. This process does not require special knowledge or skills. Surface wooden slats it is necessary to thoroughly clean, file and sand the tops. Decorative tops on the fence look beautiful. These can be semicircles, rectangles, triangles, you can also make decorative shapes with a pattern.

The wood must have a certain moisture content. If you use raw wood to build a wooden picket fence, then the fence will not last long; soon after installation, defects and distortions will appear.

In order to begin installing a wooden picket fence, you need to prepare and clean the area through which it will pass and cut the grass with your own hands. Next you need to mark the perimeter. To do this, you should drive wooden stakes along the line of the future fence and pull the cord. The wooden picket fence will be installed with your own hands according to these markings.

The next stage will be excavation. Using a hand drill or shovel it is done required type foundation, as described above. The foundation for the pillars must be done after accurately measuring the distance between the future support pillars. After completing the development of the foundation, support pillars can be installed. The pillar is installed on a prepared cushion of sand or gravel and concreted (a ball of concrete can be alternated with a ball of soil). Metal poles must be painted before installation to protect against corrosion.

When installing support posts, it is necessary to adhere to strict verticality, since violation of this rule can lead to the fence collapsing. The building level will help you with this.

Next to support pillars cross members are attached. If the posts or crossbars are wooden, then you can fasten them using bolts, self-tapping screws or ordinary nails, and if they are metal, then you can use electric welding. Usually two crossbars are designed, at a distance of about 20cm from the bottom and top of the fence. Good mount crossbars are very important for the stability and durability of the fence, since they are the ones who take the load from the fence. When selecting crossbars, it is necessary to take into account the weight of one span of wooden picket fence.

After all the crossbars are attached, you can proceed directly to the installation of the fence pickets. The pickets are attached to the crossbars using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver or simple nails and a hammer. In order for the pickets to be attached at the same level, after installing the outer pickets, you can stretch a cord along their top. The distance between pickets is usually equal to the width of one picket. To make the distance equal, you can install another picket between the nailed and nailed pickets, which will act as a distance template.

It is better to nail one picket fence with 4 nails (screws), 2 for each crossbar at the top and bottom. This will ensure the tightness of the fastening.

The wooden picket fence is ready! All that remains is to coat it with a protective agent. As such a product you can use paint, varnish, stain, or lime. Wood covered with stain and varnish looks very beautiful. Using this processing method, you can simulate different breeds wood. It is necessary to periodically treat a wooden fence. This will ensure its durability and strength.

The picket fence is included in the category of cheap types of private fencing land plots. Massive structures made of brick, concrete, wooden beam have serious advantages, but they cost big money and are not available to everyone. The urgent task for most summer residents is to search alternative options for fencing your territory.

A wooden picket fence becomes one of them. This alternative has been used for a long time. In particular, 50 years ago the percentage of fence installations similar type, made of wooden materials, was very high. At the same time, the external picture was somewhat spoiled by the uniformity of such vertical structures.

With development construction technologies and the expansion of the information field, when specialized organizations began to offer their services via the Internet, people were presented with various options enclosing structures. Nowadays, finding on the Internet a photo of a picket fence made not only of wood, but also of other materials is not particularly difficult.

Combination has become popular different materials when installing fences. Today you can often find fences that successfully combine wood and facing brick. And even uniformity today implies the use of wood, metal or plastic.

Any of these basic materials allows you to easily and quickly erect a fence around the site, serve as protection and at the same time, in some cases, serve as an exterior decoration for the house.

Advantages of wooden fencing structures made of picket fence

Creating a beautiful aesthetic appearance is important when constructing volumetric elements. But not only the house should be beautiful. Fencing included in the suburban private territory, complements the external architectural ensemble and represents that part of it on which general attention is fixed in the first place. It is important that this element is made in compliance with aesthetic standards.

Wood belongs to the category of easily processed materials and is in great demand among consumers who want to build unique structures on their sites. In addition, if you have the skills to work with wood, have a good imagination and the desire to make a picket fence with your own hands, the issue of saving money is removed by itself.

With a renewed focus on light wood processing, the process of building a fence becomes interesting, performing it in various configurations without changing the technology of work.

The result is a reliable wooden fence made from wood material a certain breed. Appearance The design is formed depending on the parameters of the pickets and the order of their installation.

Properly carried out work, in accordance with the technological order and in compliance with all standards, will allow you to obtain a strong structure that will have every chance of serving for many years. It is not difficult to take care of such a structure.

Considering that wood is afraid of fire, water and insects, for which it is a “delicacy”, it is necessary to treat the surface with protective substances and make the structure waterproof and resistant to burning and rotting.

Describing the advantages of a picket fence, many point out that the presence of frequent gaps in the structure makes it possible not to shade the area and to have excellent ventilation of the adjacent part of the territory. Typically, plants that love sunlight are planted along this type of fence.

Metal and plastic in the process of erecting picket fences

In an effort to stand out among their neighbors and gain some individuality, many summer residents prefer to replace wooden materials to others. Someone is building a fence out of metal picket fence, and someone uses plastic for this. The choice is a personal preference of each person.

The main criteria when choosing a material are strength, reliability and an attractive aesthetic appearance resulting from the design.

A plastic picket fence for a fence, among other things, eliminates additional protective treatment, coloring and is designed for quick and easy care. This material can be called the most suitable for beautiful design, since there are many colors besides the standard white tone.

At the same time, installing a fence made of metal picket fences, the material for which is profiled strips, allows you to get the most robust construction. It is otherwise called a European picket fence.

In addition to common advantages with wood and plastic, this fencing has its own advantages. In particular, they are expressed in the absence of the need to make support columns. Metal itself is a very rigid material and does not require additional fixation.

Main types of fence installations

Traditionally, the picket fence is installed vertically, but for those who do not accept standard approaches, there are other options for fastening the material. The planks can be fixed vertically or alternated in a checkerboard pattern. The type of material does not matter. Only the fastening elements are essential.

Photos of picket fences

In recent years, fashion has wooden buildings leads to the fact that developers are increasingly thinking about metal fence, perhaps not the most best solutions. From the point of view of durability, maybe yes, but from the point of view of aesthetics, it is inferior to wood. A wooden fence has somewhat lost its popularity due to its short life: wood, with constant exposure to sun and water, quickly deteriorates. To increase service life, protective covering in the form of paint, it has to be constantly renewed. If it is long, it takes a long time and requires a considerable amount of paint. This problem has become less acute since the emerging Lately New antiseptics make it possible to extend the life of the fence and also guarantee colorfastness for several years. The term varies - from 2-3 years to 5-7. It depends on the type of antiseptic impregnation and the manufacturer, but finding “long-lasting” ones is not difficult: in any more or less large store.

Moreover, these impregnations do not paint over the texture of the wood: all the veins are visible. They simply change color, usually to a darker color. This wooden fence looks solid and rich. Even a simple picket fence, let alone a complicated one, even more so.

What is important is that you can install a wooden fence with your own hands alone, if necessary, even without the help of helpers. Another important thing: significant part work - wood preparation - can be carried out not on site, but, say, in a garage or workshop. And start it long before construction begins. For example, from autumn to spring, and the construction itself can begin when the weather is warm.

Wood is a very plastic material and the most simple thing you can make it look like a work of art. This is also true for fences. If you wish, you can make such a “candy” that it would be a pleasure to look at. There are several designs of wooden fences.

Fence

The simplest one is a picket fence. This is a set of edged boards or strips of the same width, usually nailed vertically to two or more transverse rails.

Scheme of a wooden fence made of vertically nailed boards - picket fence

The shape of the top may differ. Cutting the floor 90° is the simplest option, but far from the best, and not only from an aesthetic point of view. The top of such a picket fence, even painted, is exposed to intense moisture, as a result of which the coating in this place is the first to be destroyed. And the wood pores in the perpendicular cut remain open. Rain, fog, melting snow/ice are absorbed by them, which leads to the destruction of wood. To avoid this, cut the tops not at 90°, but at 45°. If you look at such a board in profile, the top will be beveled (see picture below).

The distance between two adjacent pickets is chosen according to your wishes. You can make a solid fence, fitting one to the other closely, you can make it translucent, leaving a gap of 1-2 cm, or you can make it completely transparent - with a large distance equal to the width of the boards or even more. Such options are popular for internal fences, which are more designed to separate zones and mark boundaries than to protect from something. For external fences facing the street, they usually choose a continuous installation, perhaps with a very short distance, so that the boards do not “heave” in wet weather.

Sawn tops add variety. They can be sharpened in different ways - with a rounded top, in the form of peaks, triangles, trapezoids. All this in different options and combinations.

The rounded top is the most popular. It’s more of an openwork fence, but it’s definitely decorative. Tops in the form of lilies - the fence will be beautiful. Peaks and triangles - in combination and independently.

Some even create truly works of art: a carved fence requires a lot of perseverance. The work is painstaking, but the result is worth it.

Carved fence slats - beauty Beauty - carved wooden fence

Make curly tops faster and easier using a template. Cut a sample from a sheet of plywood and bring it to perfect condition. Then use this template to cut out all the rest. You can cut it using a jigsaw or on a milling machine.

You can buy a jigsaw for such a case. Still, even taking into account this expense item, it will be cheaper than buying ready-made carved pickets. The downside here is that it takes a lot of time, and the pickets turn out to be uneven: sometimes the file goes a little to the right, sometimes a little to the left. The edges will then have to be sanded.

Buying a milling machine if you don’t plan to use it later is unprofitable. And those who already have one can buy cutters with a floating head and make a shaped picket fence with its help. The height of the cutting part of the cutter is equal to the thickness of the board that you will process, and the head rests against the template.

In both cases, you will have to somehow secure the template to the workpiece. This can be done with thin nails or by gluing double-sided tape to the template.

But if you approach the process creatively, then even from even thin planks you can make a beautiful wooden fence: nailing it at different angles.

The authors of this wooden picket fence made it even simpler: they made only the height nonlinear, emphasizing the relief with a plank nailed on top. This, by the way, is the second way to significantly increase the life of a wooden fence - the plank blocks access for water to the most vulnerable open cross sections). Also, non-linearity is imparted by planks nailed onto the surface in the form of frames, and the wood inside is painted in a more light color. Agree, original.

Fence made of wood “checkerboard” or “chess”

In fact, this is one of the subspecies of a picket fence. The boards are packed alternately on one side or the other of the crossbar. It turns out an interesting three-dimensional look.

The principle of installing pickets in a “checkerboard” or “chess” fence

If you look at such a fence exactly opposite, it looks like a blank fence; if you look at it from the side, then at a certain angle some part of the yard will be visible through the gap. The degree of transparency is regulated by moving one bar over another. You can make it so that the viewability will be zero. For example, if the width of the plank is 10 cm, the distance between them should be no more than 6 cm. No matter how you look at it, nothing is visible. The disadvantage is the high consumption of wood. But the fences turn out to be very beautiful, especially in combination with brick or stone pillars and figuratively made tops.

Checkerboard on the plinth - such a fence looks gorgeous

They also make horizontal fences from checkerboard. But here you need to keep in mind that such a fence is very convenient to climb: the boards are like steps. True, any fence is not such a serious obstacle. It is more likely to be protection from prying eyes than from serious assassination attempts.

Wooden fence - horizontal checkerboard

Such “chess” looks decent and solid. The pillars can be anything: metal, wood, stone, concrete. If metal poles are installed, they are made from a profile thick-walled pipe (3 mm). Above ground level from the front and back side they are sewn up with boards (to the posts with bolts or self-tapping screws) that are larger than the width of the profile: they should protrude on the sides by 3-6 cm. This way we get guides into which the boards are inserted. The boards are then attached from the inside to the sheathing of the posts.

Fence "Herringbone"

Another type horizontal fence- called "herringbone". It is named so because the boards are laid close to one another, and with an overlap on the one located below. In profile it looks like a Christmas tree, as children draw it.

Wooden herringbone fences create a continuous covering

It is more difficult to climb up such a fence. Please note that there is a protective visor on top. It protects the most vulnerable part of the fence, greatly extending its service life, and also delaying the time for the next painting. After all, usually the coating at the top and bottom is the most damaged. This fence is protected from below by a plinth, and from above by a canopy.

Wooden fences "blinds"

They differ from the one described above in that the boards do not adhere to one another. They are fixed at an angle, but with some play. This type of fencing does not create a continuous wall and the yard can be viewed, although this will require you to sit down or even lie down, depending on the angle of inclination.

A fence called “blinds” - after looking at its structure, you will understand why

This type of fence is very uneconomical - wood consumption is usually high. Assembly is also complicated: you need to attach a block (corner) under each board or cut a notch in the post.

But with this construction, good ventilation of the area is ensured. This is important if the climate or area is humid. You can’t install a solid fence: there will be a puddle under it and the dirt in the yard will never dry out.

Wicker from a board - a beautiful fence

A fence made of boards bent between posts looks unusual. They are intertwined between the pillars like a traditional wattle fence. They just make it from long boards.

Wicker fence made from boards

Most often they are found in a horizontal design. There are fewer joints and it is easier to bend long spans.

There are also vertical braids. To give them a finished look, strips are nailed at the top and bottom - they both hold the edges of the boards and protect them from bad weather.

How to make such beauty, watch the video. It's really not difficult, but it requires a lot of strength.

Lattice fencing

A wide variety of gratings are made from thin and not so thin slats: with different angles, frequency of slats, etc. These fences will be completed sooner decorative role and are used either for fencing inside - outside the garden, in the garden - or for the main entrance - to mark the boundaries, but not to cover the beauty.

It’s simply amazing what beauty people can make from a piece of wood. Really beautiful. And some of them are not very complicated.

All owners of country houses or personal plots the time comes when it is necessary to decide on one or another type of fencing of the territory. There are a lot of design options: wooden fence; metal; concrete; brick. Each fence has its own advantages and disadvantages. We will not dwell on them, but will choose the simplest and most affordable wooden picket fence for the implementation of our project.

How to make a picket fence with your own hands

Wooden fencing is quite widespread. Not least due to its advantages:

Preparation of materials

Before you begin manufacturing and subsequent installation of a wooden picket fence, you need to decide on the final design of the fence.

The final decision must be made taking into account the requirements general design plot. The appearance of the fence should echo the exterior of the house.

  • A house built of red brick will initially look impressive as an organic architectural ensemble, with a fence where the pillars are made of the same material and the inserts are made of wooden picket fences.
  • A wooden dwelling made from timber usually involves the use of a completely wooden fence.
  • A building with a stone foundation based on rubble looks good with a fence having a similar foundation.

You can choose from the following options:

  • completely wooden fencing;
  • metal posts and logs in combination with a wooden picket fence;
  • stone or brick pillars with a wooden picket fence.

Once you have decided on your preference, you can calculate accurately quantity of required building material. Knowing the outer perimeter of the site, we accept the distance between the pillars as 3 meters. Based on the chosen design, we calculate the need for the number of components.

Regardless of what the pillars in the structure are, the length is calculated this way. To the height of the fence we add the desired distance between the lower end of the picket fence and the ground and plus 1.3 meters on which supports will be buried. Typically, such a recess is necessary to ensure high strength the entire structure. Preparing wooden poles for installation usually comes down to treating them with antiseptics, especially the underground part.

The total length of the logs to which the picket fence is usually attached for a wooden fence is equal to two spans between the posts. The veins may not have a rectangular profile, but a round transverse one diameter ranging from 6 to 10 centimeters.

All wooden crafts before installation is inevitable are subjected to planing. Treated surfaces are easier to finish with impregnation, painting, and varnishing. Metal parts are cleaned of rust and a penetrating primer is applied to the outer surface.

Fencing installation

We usually start installing a fence by laying out the location of the structure. Using a cord, we measure the dimensions of the area, marking the installation points for the pillars. Using a manual or mechanical drill, we drill holes with a diameter of about 20 centimeters to a depth of 1.3 meters.

Wooden or metal we put the poles in the holes, align the straightness along the cord. We check the level vertically. We fill the empty space between the pillars and the pit sand-cement mixture with addition crushed granite or broken red brick.

If freezing of the soil is noticed in a given area, then to avoid squeezing out the main supports during frost, pillars instead mortar, filled with small fraction rubble and compacted.

Before installation wooden poles the entire length of the underground part is wrapped from below with a wide layer of roofing material with an overlap of at least 15 cm for waterproofing.

After the solution has set, make installation of veins. Rectangular or round wooden logs are attached to the posts with nails or self-tapping screws. Splicing them is done by sawing them to half the thickness. It did not hurt to position the splice seams so that they were in different places.

In case of use metal poles and prozhilin applies rigid mount by welding or through special brackets with galvanized hardware. The logs are joined by welding or using metal plates using fastening bolts and cap nuts. Now the power structure of the fence is considered completely ready.

Let's move on to an equally responsible picket fence installation stage. The variety of ways to place it determines the uniqueness of the fence. Instead of the usual in-line with a constant pitch, you can use it with an increasing or decreasing gap.

Angular placement of boards will add variety to the style of the fence. The use of a carved picket fence will add individual uniqueness to the appearance of the estate. Semicircular top or bottom, alternating various sizes boards and many completely different variations are available for implementation.

To prevent the yard from being visible, you can use staggered installation order. One board is in front of the vein, and the second, with or without a gap relative to it, is behind it. By independently adjusting the gap, they achieve a transformation of line of sight land plot and ventilation of the fence.

Attaching the picket fence to wooden joists done the old fashioned way iron nails or galvanized screws. The boards are screwed to the metal veins with self-tapping screws.

Finishing work

In order for a picket fence to last for decades, the wood must be immediately treated with antiseptic materials, and then paint or varnish. This operation will have to be done systematically. Once every 5–10 years, the board is checked for damage from fungus and mold. Damaged picket fences are replaced with new ones. The entire structure is again treated with impregnations and varnished.
