Then these slopes are primed and painted. The entire process may take a week or two. The necessary thermal insulation is not provided in plaster slopes, which, even with the slightest hypothermia, leads to fogging of the windows.

Plasterboard slopes

Compared to plaster slopes, plasterboard slopes are more durable. If they are also insulated with cotton wool, then the plasterboard slopes will have good thermal insulation properties. However significant drawback drywall is their “fear” of moisture, and therefore, good waterproofing it is impossible to obtain with their help. Such slopes can be installed in those rooms where the humidity level is insignificant and remains at a constant level. After installing these slopes, they are also primed and painted. The production time is slightly less than that of plaster.

Plastic slopes

This type of slopes is the most universal. They are quickly installed, do not fade, are very practical and easy to clean. Plastic is a very durable material - it will last about 20 years without fail. Plastic can be of different colors, and therefore it will go well with any window. Thanks to the use of mineral wool during the installation of plastic slopes, such slopes have excellent hydro- and thermal insulation properties, which prevents heat loss and the formation of condensation on the windows.

When choosing a starting profile, choose a dense one. It’s more expensive, but you only need three meters per window, maybe a little more. A dense profile will hold the plastic well, a soft one will bend and the appearance will be ugly. One more point - when installing the profile, press it as tightly as possible to the frame so that there are either no gaps at all or they are minimal.

At the top, when joining vertical and horizontal profiles, you need to be especially careful and cut them exactly at an angle of 45°. If there are small gaps, they can be sealed with acrylic.

Using this technology, it is more convenient to start installing reservoir slopes from the sidewalls. Insert the panel into the fixed starting profile. It is also better to take them from expensive and dense ones, with a thick layer of plastic. If you install cheap ones (ceiling), then the front wall is thin, and in bright light the jumpers will be visible. In addition, such plastic can be pressed even with your finger.

The width of the plastic panel should be larger than the slope. If the width of one is not enough, two are joined. But then at the junction you will need an additional vertical strip to which the first strip will be attached.

The panel inserted into the profile is usually longer than the opening. Holding it with your hand, mark the line of the opening. After removing, cut along the marked line.

Cut to size

We install the panel again, move it a little away from the wall and fill it with foam, trying to fill it without gaps, but without excess. To make this happen, we start from the far bottom corner - draw from bottom to top near the nailed bar. By the time we reached the top, the foam below had expanded a little. Draw a line with foam again, but closer to the edge. The closer to the outer edge, the less foam is required - after all, the panel is installed under a slope, so make the paths thinner. Having reached the middle, make a snake on the rest of the surface and press the panel the way it should stand. Align and check. Secure to the wall with masking tape. The second part and then the upper part are installed in the same way. It can also be cut out using a paper template, and the edges can be adjusted to a perfect (or almost) match using sandpaper.

Installed plastic window slopes

Having installed all parts of the slope and secured with masking tape, leave until complete polymerization. Then, in order not to putty the cracks between the slope and the wall, white nails are glued onto liquid nails. plastic corner. The main task is to cut exactly in the corners. It is easy to glue: apply a thin strip of glue to both shelves of the corner, press it, moving your hand along it, hold it for a couple of minutes. This is how they are installed around the entire perimeter, then, before the glue dries, they are also glued with masking tape and left.

If there are gaps somewhere, they are sealed with acrylic, as described above. Don't use silicone. In the light it quickly turns yellow. In a year or two your windows will look terrible. Look for white acrylic sealant and mask it with it.

It is here that the weakest points of plaster slopes are revealed, namely plaster itself is a poor thermal insulation material with a very high level of probability of the opening being overcooled during periods of low seasonal temperatures, which can lead to cracks and peeling of the plaster and the entire destruction of the slope.
There is a misconception that installing plaster slopes is cheaper, but this is not always the case. Let's consider installing plaster slopes with your own hands. To prepare the solution, you need a dry mixture (gypsum or cement) diluted with water. As we have already found out, preparation before installation plays a major role, so the junction areas of the window unit must be cleaned of dust, dirt and degreased. To improve adhesion (the so-called “setting”), the walls are pre-wetted with a special solution, which also gives the wall strength.
Next, the slope is strengthened by installing reinforced mesh into the wall. The inconvenience of this type of installation is that when applying the cement mixture to the upper part of the slope, greater efforts must be made when applying the cement mixture to the surface of the walls of the upper slope compared to the side walls. The application takes place systematically, leveling all the cracks and irregularities, removing excess and leveling the angles of the slope to the wall.
The main disadvantage of this type of slopes is the operating time. If all parameters and application technology are observed, the operating time can reach up to a week. This is especially felt when performing a large amount of work (several windows, for example), since plastering requires the application of several layers, each subsequent one being applied only after the previous one has dried. The first application occurs by the so-called “spraying” method, after which it is primed in 1-2 layers only after the previous one has completely dried. Soil is needed to shape slopes and level out deep potholes. Only after this, by applying thin layer putties hide minor irregularities. If there is a need for a second layer of putty, then it is applied only after the primer and in the same thin layer and only on a dry surface. Proper saving Application technology will reduce the paint coating time and significantly reduce the possibility of coating destruction.
Now you can proceed directly to painting. Most often, plaster slopes are painted acrylic paint but sometimes enamels are also used. Just like primer, painting occurs in two layers, the second layer is applied only after the first has completely dried.
Another drawback, and probably the most significant one of this type of slope finishing, is the difference in the expansion coefficients of materials (PVC and plaster) with temperature changes. Which negatively affects the entire slope and will inevitably lead to the formation of cracks or even cracks at the points of contact between the slope and the window block. Which essentially boils down to the fact that plaster slopes have more disadvantages than advantages. In addition, with this type of slopes no additional thermal insulation is provided. This can lead, in the event of high temperature differences between the outside and inside the room, to fogging up of the window.

Advantages of plaster slopes:

  • To create an even and high-quality coating the slope should be done by an experienced specialist;

And some numbers. The cost of a standard window slope measuring 120x75cm is about $35. If you hire a specialist, then such a slope will cost you at least $85. If your window has non-standard forms or size, then the price of the slope will increase significantly.

The entire process includes the following steps:

Plastic slope device.

Stage 1. Preparing the walls. Take a wooden strip and 9.5 cm screws. Secure them around the entire perimeter of the slopes. They should not protrude beyond the surface of the walls. If necessary, use a drill and hammer drill. The slats must be positioned strictly vertically. Use a level to check the degree of evenness.

Stage 2. Attaching the starting strip. The U-shaped plastic strip must be fixed to the outer edges of the window opening. For this, small self-tapping screws measuring 4.5 mm are used. You will later insert the slope strip into the hole in this strip, called the gutter. If during the installation process you find a joint between individual parts of the starting strip, their corners should be carefully cut off with a knife. Thanks to this, you will get a smooth and beautiful joint from the inside.

Stage 3. Installation of the F-shaped strip. The strip is installed opposite the starting strip gutter. In the remaining part, which is located above the window, it is necessary to cut off the F-groove. After the edges of the strips are joined, the excess must be cut off with metal scissors. The strip is secured to a wooden strip with a construction stapler.

Stage 4. Laying insulation and installing plastic in the prepared grooves. At this stage, accuracy plays an important role, so all measurements should be taken with extreme care.

Before you begin installing PVC slopes, you must strictly comply with all existing standards and the rules to prepare the surface and assemble the frame. To do this, you will need to remove the previous coating, exposing the base of the wall, and cut off the mounting foam protruding around the window block, on which the plastic window was installed. Now you can remove dirt and dust. There is no need to prime the surface, since the PVC slopes are fixed to a specially assembled sheathing and do not come into contact with the surface.

All work associated with the installation of the structure does not take much time, but requires attention and accuracy. They perform manipulations with their own hands, without resorting to the help of qualified specialists.

Installation begins with the preparation and fastening of the so-called starting strip. These are guides, which are played by wooden blocks:

  1. Each such block, cut strictly to size in accordance with the height and width of the opening, is fixed using self-tapping screws or PVC dowels. The dimensions of the block do not exceed 4x4 cm, and the length of the screws is 51 mm.
  2. Through holes should be made in the slats at a distance of 6 to 12 cm from each other, using an electric drill, after which they should be installed strictly parallel to the window frame and fixed along the entire perimeter of the window, driving in dowels. Then, you need to tighten them with self-tapping screws so that the caps are recessed 0.5 cm into the rail.
  3. The installed slats must be further strengthened using summer mounting foam. It is not frost-resistant, but protection has already been created for it on the side of the building’s façade.
  4. You need to fix the starting profile on the slats. For this you will need construction stapler and staples 15 mm long will do.

The rail can be finally fixed only after the technician is convinced of its correct location.

Having completed the preparatory work, you can proceed directly to the installation of PVC slopes.

How to make slopes on windows with your own hands from plaster

For this type of work you will need to prepare the following tools:

  • painting corners;
  • guides;
  • wood plank;
  • building level;
  • malka (goniometer);
  • self-tapping screws

There are two main methods for making guides.

Scheme of the structure and insulation of the slope.

The first method is to use boards as guides. They are placed along the edge of the future slope and window perimeter using a building level. The slope is straightened using a mulch. It can be made from plywood. The prepared plaster solution is applied to the boards and evenly distributed with a small spoon.

The second method is using a paint corner. This method is a little simpler than the first, but the process itself is approximately the same. Wood is also used. A layer of plaster is applied to it, but the corners of the slopes are made using a paint corner. This avoids chipping.

There are top and side slopes. The window sill board (plastic or stone window sill) is always made wider than the slopes (the dimensions are indicated by the project). On the outer lower side of the window opening, a window sill is installed with a large slope outward, which is called ebb.

The upper slopes within one room must be located strictly on the same horizontal line. The upper slopes on the facades must be in one straight line, regardless of the number of windows and the length of the facade walls. The side slopes must be located strictly vertically on the same line along the entire height of the building.

Slopes are made with the angle of dawn, i.e. with a bevel, leaving the distance between the internal boundaries of the slopes narrower than between the external ones. For example, the distance of boxes between slopes is 1500 mm. And, near the walls this distance can be 1600 mm. or more. The angle of dawn of all slopes inside the building is made the same. The angle of dawn is measured with a square with a nailed or movable bar. The square is inserted into a quarter of the box, and the rules are attached to the bar.

To ensure accurate installation of the boxes, first hang the inner surfaces of the walls, arrange marks and beacons, and install the boxes along them at the same distance from the arranged beacons. Usually a rule is attached to beacons and the required distance is measured from it by placing marks on the walls of the opening. The boxes are attached strictly vertically and horizontally using these marks, maintaining the appropriate level. After installing the boxes, a gap remains between them and the wall, which is filled with mounting foam or tow. Depending on the finishing option of the building, window and door slopes may be with platbands that are pulled from the same solution.

Plastering internal slopes.

Plastering internal slopes. Before plastering the slopes begins, the walls must be plastered and rubbed completely or near the window openings with a strip of at least 50 cm wide. First, the upper slope is plastered, hanging the rule at the measured angles of dawn. The rule is secured with nails, clamps, crutches or frozen with plaster dough. Then they begin plastering the side slopes.

Plastering external slopes.

External slopes are finished in the same way as internal ones. The same solution as the facade of the building. If the facade is not plastered, then cement mortars are most often used to finish the external slopes. External slopes cannot be plastered with gypsum-based plasters. First, a rule is hung on the slopes, then a solution is applied, leveled and rubbed. If the drainage is not installed, then arrange a drain from the cement mortar and reinforce it. The step by step process is as follows:
