Bed covers: Turkey, Spain, Italy or… China

It is probably easier to list the countries in which there are no textile industries than those in which they are. However, there are several states that are especially famous for bed linen and bedspreads: Turkey, Spain, Italy and China.

Factory bedspreads can be single layer or quilted. In the first case, fleecy or embossed materials are used, such as faux fur, jacquard, tapestry and other fabrics.

A quilted bedspread can consist of several layers and have a thin filling. Satin and silk fabrics look most advantageous in this design, but cotton, polyester and the same jacquard, as well as any fabrics, except for fabrics with a velor texture, are perfect for this type of bedspread. Both the first and the second ones can be plain or elastic, with ruffles, frills, embroidery, fabric flowers and even inlaid with rhinestones.

In a special subspecies of quilted bedspreads, patchwork patchwork can be distinguished. Due to the growing popularity of country styles and their corresponding paraphernalia, this technique is partially moving from the category of handmade to streaming production.

DIY bedspread

Be that as it may, manual work is always valued more than factory work, especially if it is OWN handmade. Making a bedspread on a bed with your own hands is not only economically profitable: it is also an opportunity to realize your original ideas, bring a piece of yourself, your work and warmth into the interior, and feel healthy pride about it.

You can try to sew any of the above options for commercially available products.

There are two main options for tailoring: a full-length bedspread, the edges of which fall, or a mattress-sized bedspread with a sewn-on frill. The simplest will be sewing a single-layer bedspread, for which a dense tapestry or jacquard fabric is enough. But how to sew a quilted bedspread is a more difficult question.

Quilted bedspread - the nuances of tailoring

For a quilted bedspread, three types of fabrics are required: a beautiful top, a lower lining and a thin middle layer - batting or synthetic winterizer.

Photo 38 - Coral ECOBELLA ALDA quilted bedspread

Photo 39 - Quilted bedspread with imitation patchwork technique

The proverb “measure seven times - cut once” is very relevant in the case of hand-made bedspreads: you need to take into account a lot of important nuances.

  • The measurements you need to take are the length and width of the mattress, as well as the height of the bed. But you should not strictly adhere to them: initially, you can build on the size with an increase of a few centimeters. In addition, it is worth adding another five centimeters on each side, because the dimensions of the bedspread after the stitches will become smaller. And, of course, do not forget about plus one and a half centimeters of seam allowances to each edge of the fabric.

    Photo 40 - Very delicate quilted bedspread on the bed of a light romantic interior

  • If a frill is expected (which is very good, because it will hide all the uneven edges of the bedspread), you need to calculate the fabric taking into account the shape of the corners of the mattress, the size of the folds and allowances, but in such a way that the edges of the finished product do not spread along the floor. The frill does not have to be one-piece: the remnants of the fabric will go to it, it is only important to carefully hide the junctions of the pieces in the depths of the folds.

    Photo 41 - A quilted double-sided bedspread on the KARIT IKEA bed will be appropriate in a discreet bachelor interior

  • To get beautiful quilted patterns, you need to calculate the geometry on paper, plan the size and location of rhombuses or squares between the lines, and it is better not to shrink (to make it easier to sew). On the wrong side of the lining fabric, markings can be made, which will help with chalk and a cardboard figure of the required size. If everything looks symmetrical and neat, you can put three layers together and start basting.

    Photo 42 - Quilted satin bedspread with 3D effect

  • To prevent the fabric from "leading", the line must be guided along the basting and straightening the fabric on both sides of it. It is advisable not to rush, to do it thoroughly and the first time: if you have to dissolve the lines, traces may remain on fabrics, especially delicate ones.

Patchwork and color combination

Photo 45 — Handmade quilted Hummingbird bedspread JuliQuilt

For a patchwork bedspread, you will also need a top, bottom layer and filler. However, in this case, the top, and maybe the bottom, of the bedspread is made from separate colorful patches. Cotton fabrics are most suitable for such products, however, fabrics of various compositions and textures can be combined, but this must be done skillfully.

Photo 46

The combination of colors and shapes is of paramount importance in sewing patchwork bedspreads. Mostly squares, rhombuses or triangles of one or more sizes are used. In this case, do not forget about symmetry. Contrast and randomness in colors and patterns is possible (and even welcomed to some extent), but, like any eclecticism, it must still obey a certain system: you should not sew a bedspread from everything that is left in the house.

In addition, the design style of the bedroom should be taken into account: for example, a bedspread made of patches in pastel colors with discreet old-fashioned patterns is suitable for a Provence-style room. Depending on the situation, shades of white, peach, sand, lavender, worn red, blue and green will be appropriate.

Photo 47 - Patchwork in Provence style (floral patterns, muted colors)

Mostly patchwork bedspreads are variegated, multi-colored, and contrasting. But, if there is an idea to make the bedspread a few colors, and choose several colors, then:

  • you can pick up patches of different shades of the same color: for example, a green bedspread can be made up of patches of mint, spring grass, salad or other shades;
  • milky, ivory and other shades of white go well with all colors;
  • the most “sleepy” gamut is lilac; combinations of lilac or lilac and turquoise look spectacular, warm - lilac bedspread with brown or gold accents, calm - a combination of lilac and gray.

An alternative to a patchwork bedspread is a crocheted motif bedspread.

Schemes and master classes on this subject are provided in abundance in thematic magazines and blogs.

Children's bedspreads on the bed can also be purchased or made independently. Bed covers for newborns should be soft, preferably natural and delicate colors. It is not necessary to adhere to the stereotype that for a boy - blue bedding, and for a girl - pink. However, these colors are very good. Another wish for bedspreads for babies is versatility: very handy if the bedspread is also a blanket.

Photo 58 - An attractive blanket for newborns complete with other bedding

For older children, the catalogs of textiles for the bedroom have a lot of colorful bedspreads, decorated with various cartoon stories and favorite children's characters. Children's bedspreads are often decorated with bright applications. Choosing a bedspread for a teenager is based on his taste, there are many youth options among the types and brands of bedspreads described above.

A blanket is a convenient and practical item. With the right selection, it fits perfectly into the interior of the bedroom.

Of course, today's bedding is striking in its beauty. All sets are made for different styles.

The advantage of a bedspread is that the cleaned bed looks neat. The presence of a bedspread will free you from searching for bed linen for the interior of the room.

If there are problems with the choice of textiles, then it is better to sew it to order. Ready-made bedspreads for the bedroom may not always meet your requirements.

Bedspread dimensions

When purchasing this piece of furniture, you should follow some rules:

  • The material should lie perfectly on the bed. Therefore, its edges should close the design of the bed, bed linen should not look.
  • The dimensions of the bedspread should be slightly larger than the dimensions of the bed, that is, the sum of two heights.

Design bedspreads for the bedroom

A beautiful bedroom cover will be a great addition to your bedroom design. With it, you can fantasize, supplement with various accessories:

  • brushes;
  • contrast fabric;
  • fringe;
  • lacing.

The design of the bedroom will become individual and unique in the interior.

The bedspread can create an atmosphere of coziness and comfort. For example, in a romantic style, it is complemented with ruffles and frills. To give the room richness and luxury, choose material from satin or fur.

In a rustic style, use quilted fabric. A modern style offers many options. To understand them, see the photo of the bedspread for the bedroom, so it's easier to make a choice.

The bedspread must be in harmony with the overall stylistic decision of the room, otherwise there will be no harmony in the environment.

Provence

In order to start choosing a bedspread in this style. It is necessary to understand the basic principles of this style. Romanticism is inherent in this style. You need to use gentle, light colors.

However, floral prints can be used in this style. They can be both on the curtains and on the bedspread. Bedspread with curtains for the bedroom should be combined.

classic bedroom

It implies wealth and luxury, so there should be an elite bedspread for the bedroom with bows, monograms, gilding.

For example, a bedspread in a strict cut and with painted monograms will show how refined the taste of the owners is.

You can also use silk material, this will create a beautiful bedspread for the bedroom.

Country style

In such a design there should not be bright and shiny elements. The material should be selected so that its surface is soft and matte.

To emphasize the brightness of the country style, a patchwork bedspread is perfect. Very suitable knitted jersey.

Hi-tech style

Practicality and conciseness are inherent in this style, so there should be a feeling that the owner left the bed a couple of minutes ago and is about to return.

There must be negligence. The main feature is clear geometric lines in the design of the bedroom.

Bedspreads and curtains

A set of bedspreads for the bedroom is a smart decision. Since their general stylistic appearance and the fabric from which they are made must be identical. This option is suitable for those who cannot combine two items.

What to do if you really like the bedspread, but the color and design does not fit into the given style. Don't despair, there is a solution. Get a small amount of the same fabric and use it to make a new lampshade or cushions.

The bedspread is not just an accessory, but an element that creates a contrast in the interior. Having bought textiles, look at the label, what it is made of, how to properly care for it.

Then beautiful bedspreads for the bedroom will last for many years.

In the bedroom, the need to create coziness and comfort is especially clearly felt. I want all the details of the interior of this room to successfully harmonize with each other. A special role in the design of the bedroom is played by its textile design. Regardless of the interior style, any bedroom needs softness, warmth and a homely atmosphere. As a rule, the main element of the bedroom is the bed and its bedding.

But no matter how chic bed linen is, it is customary to hide this accessory from prying eyes, hiding it behind a bedspread, thereby making it another interior detail. Therefore, choosing a bedspread for a bed, you should be guided not only by its quality, but also by design features. And “Dream House” will help its readers to choose the best bedspread so that it harmonizes well with curtains and other elements of bedroom decor. In this article you will find not only practical tips, but photos of beautiful bedspreads in the interior of the bedroom and children's room.

Bedspreads for the bedroom photo

Bedspread color and bedroom design

A couple of decades ago, when choosing a bedspread, the hostesses were guided by one principle: it should be combined with curtains or curtains. It cannot be said that now this rule has completely gone into oblivion, but it is no longer so strict.

It is not at all necessary that the color of the bedspread and curtains for the bedroom ideally match with each other, however, it is desirable that the texture of these accessories be mutually compatible. For example, if there are thick curtains in the bedroom, a satin or openwork bedspread will not look quite harmonious against their background. A set of tapestry or velor curtains and bedspreads made of the same material will look much more beautiful.

Bedspreads and curtains for the bedroom

As for the color matching of the bedspread and the design of the bedroom, there are several rules in this matter:

  • Firstly, the color of the bedspread and curtains can still be combined. But now this solution is used mainly to recreate strict classical styles. If the interior of your bedroom is less demanding, you can choose a colored bedspread, the pattern of which is in harmony with the shade of the curtains, or vice versa. If you want to use a single-color bedspread, you can add harmony to the set using a decorative track that is placed on top of the bedspread, matching the color of the curtains.

  • Secondly, the interior looks very nice, in which the color of the bedspread is matched to the color of the wallpaper. In this case, it is also appropriate to use both a full and a partial combination of shades. For example, if there are drawings or patterns on it, choose a bedspread of the same color.

  • Thirdly, the color of the bedspread can be combined with the color of the furniture. Such a solution looks especially successful if the bed is a part of a single set of furniture and there is a high one in it.

Bedspread with headboard photo

Children's bedspread on the bed

  • Fourthly, the color of the bedspread for the bedroom is often matched to the main color of the interior. And in this combination, a complete match of shades is also not necessary. For example, if the bedroom is made in blue colors, the bedspread can be blue, turquoise, etc.

What fabric is suitable for bedspreads

  • And, fifthly, in modern interiors, an accent bedspread is often used, that is, its color is not necessarily associated with the overall design. However, this solution will look harmonious only if the bedroom is decorated in neutral or pastel colors, and the bed occupies the center of the room. For example, the color of the wallpaper and decor can be presented in beige and sand colors, and the color of the bedspread in orange. If this way of decorating seems a bit inelegant to you, associate the color of the bedspread with the shades of the bedroom accessories. For example, this accessory can be combined with a lampshade, napkins on a chest of drawers, a rug, etc.

Bedspread material and bedroom design

The texture of the material in its own way sets the tone for interior design. For example, a fur bedspread on the bed will make the bedroom more comfortable and warm. An accessory made of this material will be a good addition to the bedroom, which has upholstered furniture, fluffy carpets and various fabric accessories. If the bedroom interior is dominated by glossy finishes, pick up a silk or satin bedspread, the texture of which will complement the decor.

Beautiful bedspreads on the bed photo

Quilted bedspreads, especially if they have patterns on them, are ideal for vintage and romantic interiors. If the design of the room allows, choose a bedspread with flounces or ruffles, which will give the design lightness and sublimity. Quilted patchwork bedspreads, if desired, can be made with your own hands.

Quilted bedspreads

Patchwork bedspread on the bed photo

Also, the choice of fabric for the bedspread depends on the size of the bed. For example, bedspreads made of dense materials look better on a double bed, while a single bed can be harmoniously decorated with a lighter accessory.

How to choose a bedspread

Here are some practical tips to help you make your choice:

  • To choose the right bedspread for the bed, you first need to decide on its size. In almost all cases, it is understood that the bedspread should hang from the bed, covering its legs. On average, to achieve this effect, the size of the bedspread must exceed the size of the mattress by at least 60 centimeters.
  • If your bed has a non-standard shape or size, or you pick up a bedspread, it is better to order tailoring of this accessory to order. Many companies now produce bedspreads, however, its size can be very difficult to match the size of the furniture.
  • When choosing a bedspread for a baby bed, give preference to natural and, if possible, not easily soiled fabrics. For example, microfiber bedspreads have good qualities. In addition to the fact that this material is hypoallergenic, dust practically does not accumulate in its pores.
  • To complete the composition, pick up a few for the bedspread. Sometimes pillows come with a bedspread and they are made of the same material.
  • If you like variety, you will definitely be interested in double-sided bedspreads that can be laid both front and back.

It is impossible to imagine a cozy bedroom without a spacious comfortable bed covered with a beautiful bedspread. It attracts attention, sets the tone for the whole setting and emphasizes its stylistic direction. And vice versa - an unsuccessful bedspread can spoil the impression of the most expensive and stylish interior. Fortunately, the times when bed accessories were in short supply are long gone, and their choice is complicated only by the variety of models offered on the market. In this article, we will figure out what new bedspreads have appeared on the bed in the bedroom recently and show them in the photo in different interior styles.

Choosing a fabric

The basis of fabrics for sewing modern bedspreads includes both natural and artificial threads. Combining them in different proportions and using different options for weaving weave, fabrics of different density and texture are obtained.

Almost every natural fabric has a synthetic or blended counterpart, and it is impossible to say unequivocally which one is better. Natural materials are environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic, breathable, but they shrink after washing, wrinkle easily and are less durable than artificial ones.

Synthetic additives increase the strength and elasticity of the fabric, with them it keeps its shape better, retains its attractive appearance longer and is less polluted. In addition, mixed and artificial fabrics are cheaper than natural ones, which is also important.

Most often on sale you can find ready-made bedspreads from materials such as:

  1. 1 densely woven cotton and blended fabrics with a smooth surface: coarse calico, poplin, satin, percale, viscose;
  2. 2 cotton, wool and blended fabrics with a relief surface: tapestry, pique, jacquard;
  3. 3 printed silk, blended and artificial fabrics: silk, brocade, satin, polyester;
  4. 4 natural, mixed and synthetic fabrics with a pile surface: velor, velvet, plush, fur with short and long pile;
  5. 5 synthetic fabrics made of polyester fibers: fleece, microfiber, velsoft.

Fabrics from the first three groups are aesthetic, durable and easy to care for. Of these, they sew a variety of bedspreads in style, which are suitable for both simple and concise, and luxurious and lush interiors.

Fleecy and fur models look stylish and expensive. But they attract dust and most of them are dry-cleaned only. In addition, if you often lie on such bedspreads, pile and fur (especially natural ones) will quickly lose their aesthetic appeal: “bald spots” will appear on the pile, and the fur will fall off.

Fleece and microfiber bedspreads look rustic, so it would be more correct to classify them as blankets. In addition, they are too light and are more suitable for children's and teenage beds.

Fashion prints and textures

Fashion for bedding and accessories is not as changeable as for clothes. However, every season brings some new notes and colors to it. The latest fashion trends in bedspread design are as follows.

"Natural" colors. Natural earthy and mushroom shades, muted and rich dark colors are in fashion: deep blue, purple, eggplant, malachite, anthracite black, as well as all shades of gray: from diluted and as if bleached by time to luxurious silver gray and the color of wet asphalt. Such bedspreads are most often sewn from plain fabrics with stuffing and they look really luxurious and expensive.

Hand or machine knitting. Preference is given to plain bedspreads with a large relief pattern, knitted from cotton or synthetic threads or thick wool. Handmade bedspreads are especially popular. They don't have to look perfect. Small flaws that not very experienced needlewomen make are considered a highlight and even welcome. The bedspreads assembled from knitted square motifs have not lost their popularity. It is desirable that they differ not in color, but in a pattern, and the more voluminous it is, the more relevant the bedspread will look.

Patchwork technique "patchwork". A patchwork-style bedspread is sewn from scattered patches according to the mosaic principle. Once upon a time, patchwork quilts were considered the lot of the poor, and were made from scraps of fabric left after sewing clothes and bed linen. Patchwork today is an independent genre of decorative art, and for sewing patchwork bedspreads, expensive natural fabrics with satin weave are used, which are distinguished by a smooth surface and increased density.

Photo printing. Until recently, photo printing on textiles was difficult to manufacture, expensive and accessible to few. Today, you can order a bedspread with any pattern you like (from a picture from a glossy magazine to a photograph of your favorite dog) in every city. Wet silk (100% polyester) is best suited for photo printing. It holds its shape well, does not wrinkle and has a smooth glossy surface that looks great on any image. Photo printing is also done on fleece, but this fabric, as mentioned above, is more suitable for a nursery, and looks rustic in an adult bedroom.

Fabric flowers and butterflies. Luxury is still in trend. But she lost her aggressiveness and became more refined. Embroidery with beads and lurex, golden fringe, rhinestone monograms gradually faded into the background, and they were replaced by elegant textile accessories. Smooth plain bedspreads made of natural or artificial silk, saturated dark color: blue, burgundy, emerald, are decorated with scatterings of flowers and butterflies made from the same fabric. It is difficult to take your eyes off them, and such products look amazing without exaggeration.

intricate color patterns. Bright, colorful, including almost all the colors of the rainbow, patterns on fabric today are no less popular than monochrome. The main thing is to understand that each style has its own audience and what is organic, for example, for a modern interior in a classic setting will look vulgar. Lush floral bouquets, Missoni stripes, Madras check, Tartar, Paisley - everything is good that is bright and complex. The main thing is to match the interior. But there are exceptions. Predatory printed patterns like snakeskin and wild animal skins are a thing of the past.

Stitch. You can quilt a bedspread of any model. The stitch allows you to emphasize the texture and pattern of the fabric in the most favorable light, create your own pattern, if it is monophonic, give it volume. And due to the fact that quilting requires three layers of material (decorative, filler and lining) at the same time to insulate the bedspread. Lining synthetic winterizer is most often used as a filler. Recently, a new technology has appeared - ultrastep stitch. It allows you to fasten the cover with the filler without threads, by thermal bonding. It is very durable, aesthetic, withstands numerous washings, but is only suitable for fusible fabrics, which include at least 30% synthetic fibers.

Ruffles and frills. Traditionally, frills and ruffles were sewn only along the edges of the bedspread, but now they often adorn it completely. Such a coverlet is sewn from not too dense silk or satin, planted on a lining, richly decorated with ruffles, flounces, frills and frills. Depending on the designer's imagination, they are sewn in parallel, in zigzags, around the circumference, continuously or in fragments. As a result, the bedspread looks like a huge birthday cake with whipped cream and can be the pride of any bedroom, made in a romantic style.

Models and cut

Modern beautiful bedspreads for the bed in the bedroom are, first of all, interesting textures and colors of the fabric. Their cut and models do not differ in variety and have only a few basic options, such as:

Rectangular bedspread. For a simple concise form and the absence of additional details, such models are sometimes called bedspreads-sheets. They can be single-layer, double-layer (smooth and quilted). Single-layer options are sewn from dense, fairly thick fabrics: tapestry, jacquard, pique, polyester, fleece, as well as from fur and fabrics with a fleecy top, and double-layer and quilted models are made from thinner mixed and natural fabrics. Very often they are combined: the top is made of expensive and decorative material, and the wrong side is made of cheaper, but always pleasant to the touch.

Double-sided bedspread. Some people confuse two-sided and two-layer bedspreads. In fact, the difference between them is obvious. Two-layer models have a front and back side, while two-sided models have both front sides. Moreover, the latter can be sewn from the fabric of the same type, and then there is no difference which side to lay them on, but they can be made from different fabrics that differ not only in color, but also in texture. This cover gives you a choice. To add new colors to the interior, just turn it over. In this case, it is also better to sew pillow covers in duplicate and also change them depending on the mood.

Cover-case. This model completely covers the bed linen and leaves the frame and legs of the bed open. It is used for beds decorated with openwork carvings, upholstered in genuine leather or made of beautiful and expensive materials: wicker rattan, solid mahogany, which does not make sense to close from sight. Covers in the form of a cover are of two types. The first resembles a lid, the height of which is 5-10 cm more than the thickness of the mattress, and is put on it in the same way as a lid on a rectangular box. The cover-cover of the second type is not only pulled over the mattress from above, but also tucked under it. As a result, it seems that the mattress is completely inside the cover. This model is best suited for podium beds.

Bedspreads with a valance. Valance - a wide decorative frill framing the bedspread around the perimeter. This elegant, very beautiful bedspread is best suited for a high bed with a thick mattress. The supervision happens:

  • Strict. A smooth frill with counter pleats only at the corners and very rarely in the center of each of the sides;
  • Draped. A frill, consisting of many lush folds located around the entire perimeter of the bedspread;
  • Pleated. The folds on such a gap are made in the form of a large oncoming or one-sided wide pleated.

The bedspread itself can be simple or quilted, made of the same fabric as the valance or differ from it in color and texture. You can fantasize on this topic endlessly and choose a suitable bedspread with a valance for any interior style. For example, a quilted silk bedspread and a wide, draped organza or chiffon valance hanging down to the floor, or a colored patchwork veil and a strict monochromatic valance with a colored braid sewn along its bottom look very impressive.

Remember how our mothers taught us to match a handbag with shoes, gloves with a hat, and a bedspread with curtains and a carpet? Today everything is different. Before you decide which bedspread suits your bedroom bed, look at the photos of the most interesting novelties offered by designers. They prove that modern fashion is not too conservative. There are no strict taboos and prohibitions in it. But still, it is advisable to follow some basic rules when choosing a bedspread.

Deciding on the size

Before you buy or order a new bedspread, you need to measure the length, width and height of the bed. According to these parameters, the minimum dimensions of the bedspread are determined. In order for it to cover bedding, a blanket and a mattress, we add 10-15 cm to them on each side. But since most bed models have a headboard, the length is increased only on one side.

Recently, bedspreads beautifully falling to the floor have become relevant. To achieve this effect, you need to add the height of the bed with bedding lying on it to the base dimensions of the bedspread once in length and twice in height. In order for the coverlet to spread slightly along the floor (this is also very fashionable), you need to add another 10-15 cm to the resulting dimensions.

Choose a color

Usually the color of the bedspread is chosen according to one of three schemes.

To match the main color of the interior. In this case, the base color of the bedspread repeats the shades that dominate the setting, or is something in between the tones prevailing in the interior. So, if the bedroom is made in blue and white, choose a blue bedspread, in beige and brown - ivory, blue-green - turquoise.

To match the walls. The interior, made in one color, looks flat and featureless. Therefore, when choosing a cover for wallpaper or any other wall covering, it is important to ensure that the walls and textile accessories are of the same color range, but differ by several tones. A color identical to the entire setting is allowed only when it plays the role of a background, for example, the wallpaper is plain, and the bedspread is patterned, and vice versa.

To match the curtains. A bedspread for curtains is chosen quite often, since thanks to this solution, you can get a very interesting and unusual result. It is also important to remember here that the colors of the textiles should differ by several tones, and if they are identical, there should be a pattern on the bedspread or curtains.

Many people, for some reason, are sure that the bedspread should be of the same color or at least the color scheme as the curtains. They are delusional. Textiles of the same type for the whole environment make the interior boring and conservative. This technique is considered obsolete, and I use it very rarely and carefully, mainly for interiors made in country and Provence styles.

Today, curtains and bedspreads that differ in color and texture are relevant, but it is important to remember that they should not visually conflict with each other. There are several solutions here:

  • For a bedroom decorated in two basic colors, curtains are selected in one of them, and a bedspread in the other. So, in a blue-green bedroom, blue curtains and a green bedspread would be appropriate, and in a brown-beige, respectively, beige curtains and a brown bedspread, or vice versa.
  • The color of the curtains is repeated in the patterns on the bedspread. This design technique is the most popular. For example, if the curtains in the bedroom are blue and the walls are pale blue, the bedspread could be light blue with blue stripes. Thus, its main color is matched to the walls, and the pattern duplicates the color of the curtains.
  • If you do not like to experiment and respect classical traditions, sew curtains and a bedspread from companion fabrics. That is, make something monochrome, and something of the same color, but with a pattern.
  • When the curtains and the bedspread in the bedroom are of different colors and not repeated in the rest of the setting, they need to be “made friends” with additional decorative elements: pillows, runners, tiebacks, lambrequin. For example, if the curtains are green and the bedspread is yellow, a narrow green runner or pillows with green covers are laid on the bed, and the curtains are complemented with a yellow lambrequin or yellow ties.
  • Another universal technique is to purchase a bedspread with a memorable design: an unusual pattern, an accent color or a pronounced texture.

It can be a model with Missoni stripes, an unusual photo print or a fur blanket with a colored long pile. There are many options. Such bedspreads are self-sufficient, do not need support, and curtains in this case can be anything.

Each object carries its own energy into the environment and can transform it for better and for worse. Therefore, you should not rush to buy a bedspread. First, look at the new items offered in online stores, look through fashion catalogs, imagine how the model you like will look like in reality. This will definitely help you choose your ideal bedspread for your bedroom, which will last for many years.

A bedroom throw can be a bright accent or a neutral backdrop for a stylish headboard. It seems that choosing is easy - but only until you start looking.

Delightful silk draperies or perky patchwork bedspreads, cozy pastel colors or passionate precious shades - they are all beautiful in their own way, but what do you prefer for your bedroom?

Stylish bedspread for the bedroom

What are the criteria for choosing bedspreads?

To choose the right stylish bedspread for your own bedroom, consider the following criteria:

Of course, only knowing these criteria will not help you in choosing. The main aspects should be considered in more detail.

How to choose the right color and what should it be combined with?

There are several basic concepts for choosing the color range of bedspreads for the bedroom:

Style matching rules

The bedroom can be romantic or classic-restrained, minimalistic or artsy-luxurious. Each of these styles has its own models of bedspreads:

  • for classical bedrooms, a laconic set of curtains, bedspreads and sometimes - is selected, in this case, the room is guaranteed elegant beauty. Such sets are sewn from plain fabrics or materials similar in texture and with the same pattern;
  • for a room in style baroque or Art Deco where redundancy and luxury dominate, appropriate materials and methods of decoration should be selected: fabrics with a rich heavy texture (velvet or fur are a classic example), rich precious shades, luxurious lace, rich draperies, cords and fringes;
  • minimalism in the bedroom it requires an appropriate textile design - the bedspread here should have a pronounced texture, but without complex color combinations, or be decorated with a simple geometric ornament;
  • quilted and patchwork bedspreads fit perfectly into rustic styles;
  • themes Provence And shabby chic can be delightfully accentuated with floral motifs on bedspreads. The most delicate cream colors will also be appropriate here;
  • romanticism and modernity welcome satin, frills and ruffles;
  • ethnic styles are imitations of the colors of animal skins (jaguar, giraffe, zebra).
  • Bedspread in oriental style

    If you are decorating a modern bedroom no clear style, then choose a blanket in a universal neutral color - beige, cream, white. But you can go the other way, highlighting the bedspread, creating a bright accent with it - it can be bright red textiles in a monochrome beige room.

    Choosing the right size

    The size of the bedspread is as important as the color. There is a simple rule here: it is better if the bedspread hangs from the bed, covering not only the bedding, but also the mattress and the bed frame. The thickness of the blanket, the mattress, the height of the legs of the furniture - all this is taken into account. To correctly calculate the dimensions of the textile drapery, 2 heights of the bed are added to its width and length.

    All parameters are measured very carefully - after all, it is important that the bedspread looks like a luxurious tablecloth on a festive table on your cozy bed, and not like an awkward napkin. But the bedspread should not hang down on the floor - it will also look ridiculous. Fortunately, there are standard sizes - for single, one-and-a-half and double beds.

    Calculation example. The standard size of a double bed is 160 x 200 cm. The optimal allowance is 40 cm on each side. The size of the bedspread is 240 by 280 cm.
