Opening lock for plastic windows. Window limiters

Modern plastic windows have managed to prove to everyone their high practicality and functionality. One of the main advantages of these windows is their high tightness. But this is also a disadvantage: the fact is that the air in the rooms must be renewed. To do this, people open a plastic window in ventilation mode. It is convenient and comfortable in summer. But in winter this is far from the best option. To solve this problem, there is a special window opening limiter. It allows you to open the doors only to a small certain angle. Let's look at the main types and rules for choosing these accessories.

Limiter functions

This small accessory is a piece of hardware that is installed in the sash and fixed in a certain position. The door is open. The design of the product is a small bar with slots in it.

The window is secured using a special lock. It is also needed to be able to change position open window within narrow limits - from 1 to 10 centimeters. The window opening limiter bar is called a comb. When the window is equipped with such an accessory, it will not suddenly slam shut under the influence of drafts, nor will it open due to gusts of wind.

Types by purpose

The comb is not the only such accessory. Depending on the purpose, other options can be distinguished. So, a child lock is also called a limiter, which prevents a child from opening the door.

There are window opening limiters with a cable. These accessories are designed to fix the sashes at a certain angle. Using a handle equipped with a special lock, the window will not open in a standard way- this is also a kind of limiter. In addition to these products, there are also accessories in the form of latches on magnets. They are intended for sliding windows and doors.

Types of window combs

The “comb” window opening limiter is distinguished by the materials from which this product is made. The plastic comb is affordable. Manufacturers make these devices in different shades, you can easily choose desired color. But due to the nature of plastic, an accessory of this type is not very durable. Metal regulators are much more reliable, but are offered at higher prices.

At the same time, reliability is at a high level. It’s better to overpay a little, but buy the highest quality and durable product, reviews say. You can also highlight combined solutions. Plastic and metal are combined here. So, in some models the comb is plastic, but the retainer for it is metal. In addition to differences in the material of manufacture, the devices also differ in the type of fastening: under the window handle or at the end of the sash. Let's look at each option below.

Hand comb

These devices consist of a comb and a pin-shaped lock. The latter is installed under the window handle. The plastic comb is fixed to the stationary part of the frame. Depending on the design features, the part can be raised or lowered. In different positions it takes up minimal space. This is the most convenient window opening limiter.

But there are accessories that do not rise or fall completely. They are less practical - the product will constantly cling to the curtains and create various obstacles during the operation of the window.

The comb can be plastic, but it is better to select a retainer made of metal. Plastic products wear out quickly. When choosing, you should pay attention that the holes for fasteners coincide with those on the door handle.

Comb in the flap of the sash

This window opening limiter is installed on the end of the sash. The comb is mounted on a fixed frame. The installation location does not depend on the position of the handle or any other element. This allows you to place it anywhere. The pin is attached using a long self-tapping screw. The latter passes through two overlapping bridges in the sash. Only then can we talk about reliable fastening.

Features of different limiters

When purchasing a child lock window with a key, you should find a place where the key will be stored permanently. There are high chances of losing it. If the window will partially close and open, it is best to purchase a comb rather than a handle with a lock and key. The comb will allow you to adjust a small gap without having to open the doors. Of course, the device is not suitable for families with children, since it does not provide reliable protection from opening. But it allows you to conveniently and quickly adjust the desired angle.

Cable stops are suitable for setting the desired opening angle in both horizontal and vertical planes. In this case, it will no longer be possible to open the window wide. When choosing a comb, it is better to opt for metal window opening limiters. As already noted, they are much more reliable and have a good resource.

Penkid limiters

These accessories are in good demand among consumers. This is a cable limiter. It is capable of performing multiple tasks at once. This is a window blocking to protect against opening the sash, as well as protection against illegal entry.

The design uses a thick cable made of high-quality steel. It cannot be cut simply hand tools. The length of the cable is 20 centimeters. This allows you to set the limiter at any convenient location. The door can be opened at a distance of up to 10 centimeters. The design can withstand pressure of 550 kilograms.

The Penkid window opening limiter has a good set of components. It contains everything you need for installation. This:

  • steel rope;
  • plastic nozzles;
  • metal base and lock for it;
  • key;
  • four self-tapping screws for installation;
  • installation instructions.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are quite a lot of such devices. It is difficult to say which one is better. Each accessory solves its own individual problems. But to protect against a draft opening the window, you can purchase a metal comb, and this will be quite enough. If there are children in the family, then you cannot do without a blocker with a lock.

Among the large number of different door accessories, a special place is occupied by the door opening limiter. It is designed for security in the apartment, as well as to maintain the integrity of the door, walls and furniture. In addition, the latch prevents the possibility of injury from sudden slamming.

Many situations require periodic restriction of door movement: it is necessary to fix the product in order to prevent it from opening or closing independently. This is especially important if there are small children in the house, who could accidentally pinch a handle or get hurt by doors that move due to drafts. Another situation in which it is impossible to do without this device is that someone must enter the room a large number of people, especially if the doors are entrance. For such cases, a stopper or opening limiter is designed front door.

Important! In other cases, it is necessary, on the contrary, to fix the door in the closed position. A stopper is suitable for this door handle.

Where is the fixative used?

Sections of the article:

This small accessory is not as useless as it might seem at first glance. Often many people open interior or entrance doors with all their might. Sometimes this can lead to unpleasant consequences. For example, someone placed an expensive glass vase, or a child hid behind it. In addition, the handle may scratch the wall finish. The door opening limiter is a necessary accessory. It allows you to maintain the attractive appearance of the door and wall.

Purpose of limiters

Exists great amount situations that require such a limiter. So, the door is fixed to exclude it independent discovery or closure. This is very important in families with small children. Children may be injured due to carelessness and inexperience. varying degrees heaviness, bruises, cuts, pinched fingers from a door that suddenly slammed shut due to a draft.

Another situation when you simply cannot do without a door opening limiter is a large number of people who must enter the room, which is even more important if the door is an entrance door.

Where are limiters used?

Often these small details door hardware can be found in office premises, shopping centers, administrative buildings, restaurants, and of course, in residential apartments. These small products are relevant wherever doors are used frequently and in different ways.

Limiter capabilities

As you can see, this is a fairly simple device, but it is used almost everywhere. This can be explained very simply. This part performs simple, but nevertheless very important functions.

Thus, the limiter can hold the door open and protects furniture from mechanical damage due to impacts from the door handle during sudden opening. Also, with the help of these parts you can use the doorway as an additional light source. Another one functionality– fixing the sash at a certain angle. In this case, the magnitude of this angle can be different. This is relevant if you need to carry any large object through the opening.

In addition, the product is practically indispensable for double metal door designs, which serve as an entrance group in country houses. It is also believed that the element can provide anti-burglary protection. In addition to practical functions, these details also solve decorative problems. There is a wide range of these products, the most various forms and flowers. You can choose a unique specimen that will perform useful functions and decorate or complement the interiors of your home.

Classification

There is a certain classification of limiters. This will make it easier to purchase such products in the store, since thanks to it you can easily explain to the consultants what exactly you need.

These products are classified as follows. Thus, according to the place of installation, floor, over-door, and wall parts are distinguished. According to the principle of operation, the elements are divided into magnetic, mechanical and simple.

If you know information about the species and functional features each product, you can easily select a retainer. To understand what is needed, you should familiarize yourself in advance with the types of door opening limiters.

Floor Mounting Clamps

These elements are mounted directly on the floor. These fasteners are manufactured in various variations. Some models are able to hold the canvas only in a given position, while others do not allow the door to swing open too much, thereby protecting walls or furniture.

Floor parts come in two types. This is a stationary floor limiter for opening the door and a mobile lock.

Stationary products are produced in the form of a magnetic stop and limiter. The fastener with a magnetic system consists of two structural elements. This is a small metal plate that needs to be fixed at the bottom of the door leaf and the magnet itself. It is fixed in the place where the door needs to be stopped. When the blade opens, the magnet attracts the plate and holds the structure securely.

The simplest floor products, which are designed to work with interior doors, are made for other tasks. These parts do not fix the sash in any way, but simply do not allow the leaf to open wider than necessary.

Mobile elements for fixing the door leaf are also produced in several types. The simplest floor limiter for interior door has the appearance of a wedge with a rough base. Many products of this type resemble toys or various figurines. Another type is a stopper, which is placed on the lower end of the door leaf. A special feature of this product is its non-slip feet, thanks to which the canvas is securely held in the required position.

In addition to design features, each clamp and limiter differs in design. Today it is not at all difficult to choose a detail that will be in harmony with the door leaf, wall decoration and floor.

Wall stops

All those stops for wall mounting that can be found in hardware stores can also be divided into two types. These are devices that limit the opening angle and mechanisms that limit the slamming of the door.

Elements that belong to the first type are fixed to the wall using various fasteners. These devices reliably protect the wall surface and any interior items near the canvas from mechanical shock.

Such products can also be magnetic or ordinary. Installation is recommended when owners of country houses or cottages do not want to spoil expensive flooring. Moreover, floor clamps cannot be installed if the room has heated floors.

A wall stop for an interior or any other door, which is fixed on the top of the platband, has more functions. When it is inoperative, it does not prevent the door from closing. But you just have to turn the device 90 degrees and it will not allow the curtain to close completely.

Over-door clamps

For families with children or pets, these products are very relevant. They reliably protect children and animals from the door, which can slam shut at any moment. To do this, a special stopper is placed on the side end of the canvas. Often, this small device is made of plastic or rubber. It will not damage the door finish and will protect the wall and children.

In order for the door leaf to be in the open state and at the same time in a certain position, it is necessary to install a door opening angle limiter. This special device, which is a metal case. This housing is installed directly on the canvas. Also included is a brake pad.

To fix the door in a certain position, you need to apply force to a special lever. To remove the fixation so that the blade can again close and open as usual, it is necessary to lift the brake pad.

Other types of limiters

Door stops are very important detail. But the limiter for furniture doors no less important. It allows you to prevent excessive opening of the sash, which can damage the hinges, body, adjacent doors, and walls. If you do right choice This product can significantly protect your home and life.

A stopper designed for door handles is capable of limiting access to a room without the use of any locking mechanisms. There are two types of execution of such door accessories.

The first type is a mechanical latch. The special handle has a special latch that can lock the door in the same way as a lock. The second type is a magnetic stopper. Such systems are used for doors to toilets and bathrooms, parents' bedrooms and other rooms. These products have a special rotary button. It helps to securely fix the doors closed inside the room.

Materials

The cost of door restrictors can vary greatly. The price primarily depends on the materials that were used in production, and only then depending on the mechanism that performs the fixation.

Among the most popular are steel, various steel alloys, plastic, aluminum, and wood. How more expensive material, the more durable the product will be, and the longer the service life will be. In addition, high-quality material significantly increases the reliability of the design. This is true for all products except over-the-door ones. They are executed from soft materials. Here quality material differs in elasticity.

Which material to choose does not depend on taste. If there are children in the family, then the best option plastic products or rubber. If door leaf massive, then it is better to use metal accessories. It is also better to install a metal opening limiter for the front door. Wall clamps should be predominantly soft.

Magnetic systems will be relevant if it is necessary to firmly fix the canvas in the open state. The magnetization force in this case depends on the weight of the canvas.

Installation

The floor door opening limiter is installed in several stages. So, at the first stage they prepare necessary tools. This is a hammer drill, drill, screwdriver and marker or pencil. When purchasing a product, it is important that it is equipped with special fasteners.

At the second stage it is necessary to select appropriate place. The main thing here is to choose exactly right place. To do this, open the door leaf and then fix it in such a position that about 5 cm remains from the door to the wall. At the same time, make sure that the distance from the door to the wall is no less than the length of the door handle, otherwise the stop will not work. If the product will be installed in a walk-through room, then it should be mounted as close to the wall as possible.

Next is the marking stage. At this stage, mark the place where the device will be placed. Then two holes are drilled in the floor - one for the dowel, the second for the pin. A dowel is hammered into one of the holes and the products are installed in this place. It is important that the pin also fits into the second hole. Then you can fix the element.

Limiters are very useful and practical products. They protect walls and furniture without worrying about children's fingers or pets.

Plastic double-glazed windows operate in two modes: slot micro-ventilation and full opening of the sash. However, such provisions are often insufficient. Practical and affordable solution problems – window opening limiter. The device holds the sash at a given level, preventing it from slamming shut or swinging open in the event of a draft. Let's figure out what types of window latches exist and how they work. Let us outline the selection rules and technology for installing the limiter.

A window restrictor controls the flow of air into the room and holds the sash in the selected position. The bar sets a fixed opening gap in the range of 1-10 cm.

Sash blocker

Tasks of the window sash stop:

  1. Air supply adjustment. The required ventilation intensity is set in the room - the air flow circulates in a certain volume through a fixed slot.
  2. Safety. The bar blocks the position of the window - it will not allow it to open wider than the specified level. This is very important for families with small children and pets.
  3. Preventing drafts. The mechanism keeps the sash from suddenly swinging open. Thanks to this, the likelihood of unexpected drafts is reduced. In addition, there is no risk that nearby objects, flowerpots and expensive double-glazed windows will be damaged by abruptly opening the window.

For your information. Poor ventilation premises are one of the main reasons, and in the rooms.

Components of the limiter

A typical blocker is called a “comb” or “crocodile” because appearance devices. The latch has a simple design and operation scheme.

The most simple model The window stop consists of two parts:

  1. Comb. An extended bar with grooves and a hinged connection for raising/lowering the mechanism. The number of “notches” on the plate determines the opening range of the window. The most popular are four-position models.
  2. Latch. The response part is located on the movable sash. A small metal pin holds the comb in position.

Window stop device

The use of a limiter involves selecting the window opening level and placing a pin between different positions of the comb.

Pros and cons of using a blocker

The main advantages of limiters for plastic windows are the ease of use and the safety of operation of the sashes. Additional advantages include:

  • affordable price;
  • Possibility of application on previously installed windows;
  • ease of installation - all work can be done by yourself without the involvement of specialists or the use of expensive equipment;
  • simple maintenance of the mechanism and the ability to replace it yourself if it breaks down.

Locker on the window frame

However, this method of fixing a window sash also has disadvantages:

  • non-compliance with installation technology is fraught with damage to the frame and deterioration of tightness parameters;
  • fragility of the structure - active, careless operation can damage the latch or lead to the strip breaking;
  • in the cold season, the use of a limiter is not relevant - the air inside the room quickly cools. One way to ensure ventilation in winter is to install.

A simple comb is not enough to fully protect children. To ensure complete security, lock models must be installed.

Types of window sash clamps

Window stops for PVC windows differ in the material of manufacture, installation location and mechanism of action. The listed parameters determine the strength of the bollard, its durability and reliability in terms of security.

According to the material of manufacture

For installation on PVC windows, three types of models are used:

  • plastic;
  • metal;
  • combined.

Plastic. An affordable device that is perfectly compatible with PVC profiles. Restrictors are available in several colors, standard quantity positions – 3-4 positions.

Plastic limiter

Disadvantages of PVC blockers: low strength, short term services. It is not advisable to install such modifications on sashes facing the windy side - heavy loads can cause deformation of the plastic.

Metal. More durable and therefore wear-resistant blockers. The most preferred are brass stops with an anti-corrosion zinc layer. The color range of metal retainers is limited: golden, silver, grayish and copper shades. The downside is the high cost.

Metal limiter

Metal-plastic. Combination devices include: plastic comb and a metal retainer. As a rule, the bar white. Interesting multi-colored options - to order.

Combined type of blocker

By mounting method

There are 2 installation methods:

  • installation under the handle;
  • installation in the overlap of the sash.

The first option is conventional combs mounted on a fixed part of the frame. The bar rises or falls without taking up extra space or clinging to the curtains.

Placement of the limiter under the handle

The second option involves installation at the end of the sash. The pin is fixed with long self-tapping screws that pass through both sash overlap bridges. This type of fastening is more reliable.

The window sash opening limiter is suitable only for plastic structures. Installation on wooden frame can lead to its deformation along the fibers natural material due to significant forces occurring on the pin.

Blocker at the end of the sash

By mechanism of action

Limiters for opening plastic windows design features and operating principle can be classified into the following groups:

  1. External comb. A primitive “crocodile” for flaps. The model fixes the window for ventilation, but the degree of protection for children is insufficient.
  2. Built-in limiter. An analogue of the external comb, the functionality corresponds to the previous device. Plus - aesthetics, hidden placement. The downside is that it does not provide security.
  3. Constant brake. Blocks spontaneous opening and excessive swinging of the sash. A similar mechanism is used on the doors of offices and shops. Disadvantages: high cost, risk of breakage if the window is opened suddenly.
  4. Handle-lock. Effective protection against children's access to windows. Externally, it is an ordinary handle, but shut-off valves are built inside. The downside is the limited choice of sash position and the need to keep the key safe.
  5. Window limiter with cable. The capabilities are similar to a comb, but can withstand a tensile force of up to 550 kg. Installation on swing sashes is permissible anywhere; on tilt-and-turn frames – at the top of the structure.

Cable window rotation limiter

How to choose a window comb

Before purchasing a window stop, study the characteristics of different modifications. When choosing, experts recommend adhering to the following rules:

  1. On balcony blocks It is better to install activated brake mechanisms.
  2. For attic double-glazed windows and large windows, it is necessary to select metal fasteners of increased strength.
  3. For active use and frequent opening/closing of the sashes, it is advisable to choose a window limiter with a cable. Alternative option– blocker with a locking mechanism.
  4. If there are often drafts in the apartment or the windows are located on opposite sides, give up plastic products.
  5. To protect children as much as possible, it is necessary to install special restrictions for safe ventilation or.

How to install a limiter on a window

The technology for installing a comb-type window retainer can be divided into three stages. First - preparatory activities. The second and third are the installation of the clamp and the bar with grooves, respectively. Let's look at each of them.

Preparing tools

Prepare your tools in advance. Having everything you need nearby will help you stay focused on your work.

Required tools and materials:

  • limiter with pin;
  • screwdriver or Phillips screwdriver for fixing elements;
  • self-tapping screws up to 10-12 mm long – larger fasteners can damage the window profile;
  • construction or household knife– necessary for prying off the plug;
  • pencil for marking - it is better not to use a marker on white plastic so that there are no marks left;
  • drill and drill bits.

You should have a tape measure and instructions on hand, supplied complete with the limiter for PVC windows.

Required Tools

Installing the retainer

The primary task is to install the pin on the opening window sash.

Sequencing:

  1. Pry off the plug on the handle and turn it 90° - access to the fasteners will open.
  2. Fix the window in open mode and remember the position of the handle - perpendicular to the vertical of the sash.
  3. Unscrew the upper and lower bolts and remove the handle.
  4. Place the comb bracket so that the board is under the window handle. The pin should point towards the return door.
  5. As a rule, the holes in the bracket coincide with the holes where the screws are located.
  6. Attach the bar with the pin, reinstall the handle and tighten the bolts.
  7. Return the handle plug to its original position.

Installation of the window stopper

Bracket Attachment

This is the most critical stage of installing a limiter on a window. Here it is important not to make a mistake with marking and preparing the holes for mounting the comb - it will not be easy to correct the defect. Illiterate actions can lead to depressurization of the glass unit.

Work technology:

  1. Close the sash with the lock and mark the level of the bracket. The pin should be located opposite the comb, but not interfere with the free opening/closing of the window.
  2. Mark the planned location with a pencil.
  3. Holding the toothed strip in the designated area, try to fix the window and check the operation of the sash.
  4. If the elements are well joined, the limiter does not interfere with the use of the double-glazed window, then you can finally screw the bracket to the frame with self-tapping screws.

Checking the operation of the sash opening blocker

It is not advisable to “set” the guide on glue. Constant loads will quickly damage the strength of the coupling and the bar will fall off.

The entire process is clearly demonstrated in step-by-step video instructions:

Features of replacing an old element

Before installing a new limiter on plastic windows, you should consider several important points:

  1. We need to find an analogue of the old comb. When purchasing, pay attention to the basic dimensions: the diameter of the pin and the distance between the mounting holes.
  2. Even if only one element fails, the entire system must be replaced. Fasteners different models may have dimensions that will not fit the new grooves of the strip.
  3. To change the brackets you need to unscrew two screws.

Replacing the sash opening limiter

When rearranging the bar, a number of rules are followed:

  • Remains of plastic on the screws must be removed - if this is not done, there is a risk of breaking the thread during tightening;
  • it is advisable to get into the old, used thread - first turn the self-tapping screw counterclockwise, and as soon as the fastener “falls off”, change the force vector.

If the holes of the new comb do not correspond to the old ones by 1.5-3 mm, they can be bored out with a file, and the bar itself can be secured with self-tapping screws with wide heads and press washers.

Making a limiter with your own hands

For the windows of a country house you can build homemade device to regulate ventilation. You will need some simple materials:

  • a piece of wire with a diameter of 2-3 mm;
  • 2 small nails - will act as a pin;
  • 2 large nails - for making staples and then fixing the limiting device on them.

Making a window blocker

Assembly algorithm:

  1. Bend the wire in half, forming a loop in the middle and small curls along the edges.
  2. Make an arch using long nails. Use pliers to give them the desired shape.
  3. Drive staples from long nails into the fixed frame of the sash at a height convenient for adjustment.
  4. Thread one end of the wire into the bracket.
  5. Attach a small nail - a tripod - to the movable door.
  6. To adjust and fix the position, the wire ring must be put on the clamp.

If the invention provides several turns of wire, this will expand the number of window opening modes.

A homemade device does not require financial investments, but in terms of strength it is noticeably inferior to purchased analogues.

Popular manufacturers of window clamps

The quality of the limiters is largely determined by the manufacturer. The following brands have earned a positive reputation among users:

  1. Penkid. A Turkish company specializing in the production of steel window opening limiters with a cable. Metal models can withstand a load of 550 kg, the length of the cable is 200 mm. The blocker cannot be broken or cut with a knife.
  2. Roto. German quality - the manufacturer provides a ten-year guarantee on some window fasteners. Metal models are reinforced with multi-layer anti-corrosion protection, plastic ones are made of safe polymers.
  3. Rehau. Window fittings from a German brand are characterized by reliability and long service life.
  4. Vorne. Turkish products – balance good quality and affordable cost. Buyers praise the limiters for their durability. One of the disadvantages is the tendency of plastic blockers to lose their original whiteness over time.
  5. "Bertha". Offer domestic manufacturer. Budget series products with good performance characteristics.
  6. Ikea. Window systems safety for children. Products of the “Patrol” series are equipped with double latches, required quantity self-tapping screws Important advantage models - versatility. The clamps are suitable for plastic and wooden structures. The limiter can be installed on sliding sashes.

Ikea window blocker

Palladium sells decent products. A domestic company is engaged in the development and implementation window fittings. Metal stops have high level protection from thieves. Cable locks come complete with a key - a child lock.

Limiters are not needed special care. Periodically it is necessary to tighten the fasteners and check the reliability and integrity of the comb. If necessary, you can replace the window retainer.

It is not advisable to use the comb in frosty weather; during heavy gusts of wind or heavy rain, you must close the windows in a timely manner and do not load the blocker. This is explained by significant pressure on the sash and the latch itself, which cannot always withstand it.

Installing a limiter on plastic windows does not present any difficulties. The entire process takes about one to two hours and does not require expensive construction tools.

To prevent the door from slamming or opening/closing spontaneously, so that it can be fixed at any angle, there is a door opening limiter. There are many types of limiters. They differ from each other structurally, in location, in design. You can choose an element that will match the rest of the door fittings.

Varieties

1. The simplest floor door stop is a wedge with a non-slip base. Designed to limit the door so that it does not open wider than necessary.

2. Another floor stopper is placed on the door at the bottom. It is equipped with non-slip feet that rest on the floor. When opened, the door is released from the groove and set in motion.

3. Magnetic door stop. It consists of a clamp with a magnet located on the floor and a counter plate on the canvas. When opened, the parts connect and hold the door in a certain position.

4. Wall door stop (swing stop) - an element that is installed on screws in the place on the wall where the door should stop swinging. When opened, the door rests against it and does not hit the wall. This door opening limiter can be conventional or magnetic.

5. A clamp that is attached to the platband at the top of the box. When turning down at a right angle, an obstacle is installed to prevent the door from slamming. To avoid damaging the canvas, wall stops are equipped with rubber gaskets or made of soft materials.

6. C-shaped plastic retainer is put on the end of the canvas and thereby prevents the door from slamming.

7. Opening angle limiter. Metal device, which is installed on the door. The brake pad is equipped with a pedal. The pedal is pressed to fix the blade. To set it in motion, the block is raised using a lever.
