How to make a garden path from homemade tiles. Mold for making a garden path with your own hands: reviews, photos

Walking on the ground and then spreading it all over the yard is far from the best thing you can come up with. In order to keep your home in order, as well as for high-quality decoration of the front garden, there are special plastic forms for garden paths. They represent several cells irregular shape, which join together to form a specific pattern. When installing such a structure on fresh concrete, it divides it into similar parts; after partial hardening, it can be removed. Let's take a closer look at why they are so popular.

  1. The mold for making garden paths allows you to short term create the desired pattern. This does not require spending a lot of time and effort; you just need to fill the plastic structure with concrete or lay it directly on top of fresh mortar.
  2. Relatively good looking compared to alternative ways finishing. Separate blocks on the floor will look quite good, much better than a conventional monolithic screed. Outwardly, they will resemble individual natural stones, which, moreover, can be additionally painted using a special dye for concrete.
  3. Durability. You purchase a product only once, and it serves you forever, it does not corrode, and withstands any frost and sun. It is not amenable to moderate physical impact, it can be compacted a little, or impacted with a rubber hammer.
  4. Cheapness. You can buy goods at a price from 700 to 1500 rubles, depending on the number of elements in it, the total working area, material (plastic, PVC, silicone).
  5. Strength. You can pour concrete to a depth of 5, 10, 20 or more centimeters - as you wish, and make its top into cells. Thus, it will be possible to drive on your “tile” not only with a car, but also with carriages. In this, “hand-made” is superior to any finishing material.
  6. Convenient installation. A person without special construction skills can make a path; the process is much easier than laying tiles or a natural stone.

This product is a godsend for a novice gardener who wants to decorate his yard and front garden without significant financial costs. Just a thousand rubles and the cost of producing concrete and you can already begin large-scale work on arranging the site, and the screed can be done on any surface, be it earth, clay, sand. But is everything as perfect as it seems?

Form for filling garden paths and its main disadvantages

If you want to do everything really efficiently, then you need to weigh everything before making sidewalks in the yard and front garden using plastic structures. They are really cheap and save money, but is it worth it? Let's consider the main disadvantages of the sidewalk obtained as a result of such an operation.

  1. The appearance is much worse than ceramic and paving slabs. No matter how hard you try, it is almost impossible to achieve the desired result, since the stone obtained as a result of the vibrating table and pressing has an ideal shape, smooth edges, and the same dimensions. Your product will be a little crooked. If you look closely, you will notice that these are not separate stones, but simply a deep pattern on top.
  2. High erasure rate. You will paint the concrete outside - this powder coating will not last long, you will have to “renew” it after a year. You can use mixtures to completely color concrete, but you won’t like the result - the cost is high, and the quality will leave much to be desired. The grain of ordinary tiles is high, it looks a level better than your product, and at the same time, it does not wear off over the years.
  3. Long process duration when working with large areas. 1 worker independently stacks up to 15-20 square meters ceramic tiles per day, but with the help of the form you will not do much. 1 piece is equal to 0.5 sq.m., it takes about an hour to dry. Thus, in 1 working day you can make only 8-10 squares, even less, because after removing the plastic you still need to smooth the edges, paint, clean the channels, etc. You need to buy 2-3 products at once, and this is an additional expense.
  4. Inconvenient to work over a large area. Although the form can be removed in 30-50 minutes, the concrete will completely harden in 15-20 days, after which it will be ready to walk on, and after 35-40 days it will be possible to drive. Thus, you will have to work on the ground, walking on fragile concrete if the area is too large to reach from the edge.

As you can see, a plastic mold is not always the solution to the problem; the garden path turns out worse than when using tiles or natural stone. There are also some inconveniences when working with large area, for example, in the process of concreting a yard. You will waste a lot of time.

How to make a garden form with your own hands

If you decide to save not only on the construction of garden paths, but also on purchasing plastic forms, then you can make them yourself. To do this, you do not need to have any special construction skills; a little imagination and desire will help you solve this problem. The easiest way to build such a product is from metal. In order for us to get out beautiful instrument To create a garden path, you need to follow these instructions.

Step 1 Preparation of materials.

First you need to buy metal corner 25x60 millimeters, three-piece electrodes, metal strip 60 mm wide, 3.2 meters long and 1 mm thick.

Step 2 We make the rim of the shape.

To do this, you need to take a strip 3.2 meters long and make a square out of it - bend it every 80 centimeters (4x80 = 320 cm). Thus, we will get a square with a side of 80 cm, the inside of which is empty.

Step 3 We fasten the diagonals.

We calculate the diagonal of the square: (8x8) + (8x8) = 128, the root of 128 is approximately 11.3. We cut 2 corners of this size and weld them in opposite corners of the square. It is advisable to make double diagonals, that is, one corner in one direction and a corner welded to it in the other, in order to immediately make 2 normal edges of adjacent stones.

Step 4 Making cells.

On this moment we got 4 large cells. Now we need to break them in half again so that our path is as beautiful as possible. We measure the middle of the diagonal and the middle of the side of the square, connecting them with a corner. We again weld the 2 corners with the wide sides together, short to the top. As a result, we have 8 cells.

Then everything is simple - lubricate with unnecessary machine oil(mining) the metal, fill it with concrete and wait 15-20 minutes. The main thing is that the mixture completely fills the mold and does not form empty spaces or air “balls” in it - this will significantly affect the quality of the manufactured track. If you have the right shape, your DIY garden path will turn out very beautiful. Add dry dye to the wet concrete and smooth it out a little with a trowel. After 40 minutes you can remove it metal carcass, enjoy the beauty. You can walk after 15 days; it is advisable to drive a car only after a month, since with a large thickness of concrete, it hardens at the bottom for a very long time.

Elegant and well-groomed garden paths are a mandatory attribute of almost any modern dacha or country house. Agree, it’s nice to stroll along an elegant path deep into your favorite garden or to please guests beautiful tiles, which leads from the gate to the home porch.

Garden paths organically fit into the green landscape and are divided into unique sectors, giving the territory a well-groomed and complete look. They are a kind of fencing for a vegetable garden, garden or favorite flower bed.

In addition, the tiles can be laid as a platform for a bench or for parking a car. Finally, thanks to the flexible and durable garden paths, even in bad weather you can safely walk to the outbuilding or to the garage without fear of getting stuck in the soggy ground. WITH choosing material for a garden path can be found in .

Today we will talk about one of the most common, accessible and uncomplicated methods construction of a garden path using a special “filled” form.

Ready-made plastic forms for laying garden paths have a variety of interesting options design, thanks to which any, even the most fabulous “stone” path pattern is formed.

Further, they are very easy to work with: the whole process is fast and fun. It is not difficult to rearrange the mold and pour concrete, and besides, you will not waste time making your own mold from an old iron hoop and other materials. Finally, it is important that this method will be cheaper than buying ready-made paving slabs.

Buying a form for a garden path is not a problem - it can be purchased at a specialized store or ordered online. Traditional dimensions of the form: 60*60*6 or 40*40*4 cm.

Preparatory stage

First, decide on the location of the new path. Make a preliminary marking: drive pegs around the perimeter, through which you stretch a string to mark the boundaries of the path.

Now estimate the density of the soil. If upper layer the soil is loose and fragile, then dig a trench - a groove about 8-12 cm deep depending on the type of soil, and at least 45-65 cm wide based on the parameters of one shape and taking into account the indentation along the edges for the border. If necessary, you can take double or triple width.

Afterwards, compact the soil well and add about 5-9 cm of sand and small gravel, then compact everything again. Make sure that the earth does not sink anywhere, otherwise all the work will be ruined.

If the soil is initially dense, then it is not necessary to dig a trench. It is enough just to compact the earth, then lay a thin layer of sand and crushed stone no more than 5 cm and compact everything thoroughly again.

In principle, to form a bedding, you can get by with sand alone, and add crushed stone later when pouring the path. The initial gravel-sand backfill is needed in the case of fairly loose soil or when a large operational load is expected, for example, a platform is being built for a car.

Setting up the form

Pour water over the sand at the site of the future path - this will compact the foundation and retain sufficient moisture in the concrete. Sand can be temporarily covered with polyethylene. When you plan to drive a car along the tiles or park it, then lay a reinforcing mesh on top of the gravel-sand base, which is cut with a grinder to the size of the path. An alternative to reinforcement is fiberglass.

Now, using a brush or spray, carefully and thin layer grease your mold soap solution, specialized lubricant (optimally), or, as a last resort, recycled automobile oil. Thanks to lubrication, the mold will be easier to remove back. When using special lubricant - " K-222"etc. - it is enough to treat the mold once, with a soap solution - every time before installing it in a new position, with machine oil - once every 3 fills.

Lightly spray the sand with water again using a spray bottle, then carefully and evenly place the mold on the bedding, lightly pressing it in so that the layer of future tiles protrudes at least slightly above the level of the surrounding surface.

Preparing the solution

Let's move on to cement mortar . There are several options here.

  • You can take the standard ratio: cement 1 part, clean fine-grained sand 3 parts.
  • Further, there is this method: cement 1 hour, sand 3 hours, crushed stone 4 hours (medium or fine fraction).
  • The composition is also used: cement 1 part, sand 4 parts + plasticizer.

Often, for the strength of the track, crushed stone and a plasticizer are added at once, and sometimes also reinforcing fiber.

Cement consumption may vary, but here is a guide from practice: 50 kg of M500 cement is enough for 2.6-3.0 sq. m. m of paths with the usual ratio to sand of 1:3 and without crushed stone. Here, for example, are 40 cm shapes (4 cm high), 1 row in width plus 17 shapes in length, for a total of 40 cm * 680 cm = 2.72 square meters. m.

For tiles 60*60*6 cm, 50 kg of cement is enough for approximately 1.7-2.2 square meters. m. With gravel or with a plasticizer, cement consumption will be at least 15% lower everywhere.

So, first, thoroughly mix dry cement M500 or M400 with fine-grained sand in a container. To make the tropics more durable, you can add crushed stone.

If you are planning color track, then add a special dye for concrete to the dry mixture at a dosage of approximately 2-5% of the total mass of cement. You can also use the so-called. liquid pigment that is added to the solution. A 750-800 g package of pigment is enough for about 8-9 square meters. m paths.

With painting, you can do this: paint the path in 1 color, adding it to the solution or mixture, mixing the dye evenly; paint the path “spot”, when the dye is added to the concrete, but not completely mixed; sprinkle the pigment on top of the finished, but not yet covered tile, painting only its surface.

Next, it is recommended to add to the water or dry mixture plasticizer which will provide the garden path better protection from moisture and temperature, will make it more elastic, flexible, smooth and strong. The plasticizer saves cement consumption and strengthens concrete by approximately 15-20%. In this regard, we can recommend the plasticizer “SP-1” (or “SP-3”) with a dosage of approximately 100-200 g per 25 kg package of cement (0.3-0.8% by weight).

You can also add to the dry ingredients or directly into the solution reinforcing polypropylene fiber by 12 or 18 mm. This is especially good for space under the car. Thanks to fiber, you can do without preliminary reinforcement with wire. This substance significantly increases the strength of concrete, eliminates any appearance of cracks, and makes the material resistant to abrasion. One package of fiber per 600 g is enough for 40-42 slabs of 60*60 cm (about 15 sq. m).

Gradually adding water to the dry mixture, thoroughly stir all the ingredients to a creamy consistency. Make sure that the solution is not too liquid, as too much water can cause cracks to form after the track hardens.

Laying a garden path

Post it cement-sand mortar from above into a form placed on the bedding. Fill it as evenly as possible, do not leave any voids anywhere, especially in the corners. Using a trowel or wide spatula, carefully level everything, compress and remove excess mortar. Try to keep the top of the tile as level as possible.

Now wait about 20-35 minutes until the solution thickens. Carefully holding the opposite diagonal corners, remove the mold, lifting it straight up so as not to distort the edges. It is permissible to lightly tap the shape with a trowel before doing this.

That's it, the first fragment of the path is ready.

Then spray the sand again with water, if necessary, lubricate the mold, move it to the next place and fill the solution again. Use a string, a level or a long strip to control the verticality of the form: the entire track should be on the same plane in height. By the way, you can use several molds at once for construction - this will make the work go faster.

After the final filling, cover the path with film or other material to protect it from traces or rain while it dries.

You can step on the finished path after a couple of days, apply loads, walk after 4-5 days, and park the car after no less than 16-18 days.

Final stage

Fill the seams between the path slabs, as well as its edges, with sand, compacting it well. You can also fill the seams with soil, then plant grass there. pour out onto already compacted seams, roll with a wallpaper roller, then lightly sprinkle them with earth on top.

Finally, around the edges you can make a more solid border using a special form. The work process is the same, but the composition of the solution will be as follows: cement 1 part, sand 2-3 parts + plasticizer + fiber. If you take 2 parts of sand, the border will be white; if a little more, it will be dark gray. Border dye is added as needed.

You now have a beautiful new garden path. Good luck with your construction!

Material for molds

In most cases, manufacturers offer molds made of durable and high-strength plastic. But you can find other options on the market, but they are much less common. One of the most common is a mold for tracks made of silicone. It is capable of imitating a wide variety of textures; it is mainly made with the relief of wood or stone. Additionally, they can be used on vibrating tables to increase the strength of the product.

Wooden models have clear edges and geometric lines; they are made from small bars that are treated with protective solutions. Corners are used to strengthen the stencil, but over time the fastenings can become loose and the wood itself can rot. To use, you must constantly lubricate it with used oil so that the solution comes off easily.

On our website you can find contacts construction companies who offer the service of developing and implementing landscape design projects. You can communicate directly with representatives by visiting the “Low-Rise Country” exhibition of houses.

There are also metal stencils, but they are not the most convenient because they can be heavy. When using low-quality metal, they may be subject to damage over time. negative influence corrosion. Another disadvantage of this option is the high price of the stencil. The most big advantage This shape is considered to be durable and retain its original shape even under fairly heavy loads and intensive use.

The most common models are plastic stencils. These are removable forms that can consist of different quantities cells of various shapes. The main stencil size is 70x70 cm, there are larger and smaller models, but they are less common. With their help, a wide variety of alleys are quickly created; it takes several minutes to fill one form. The mold for making garden paths is made of durable plastic. But it cannot be used on a vibrating table, which affects the strength of the track. This problem is solved by using reinforcement of cells with wire or reinforcement. You can give the path a natural look by adding a special pigment to the solution.

Features of use

You cannot lay the form on top of the ground, otherwise after the first winter water will collect under the stones and they will begin to collapse. The base must be well prepared, which will allow you to secure the alley and make it durable and hardy. To obtain good result the following rules must be adhered to:

    a layer of soil is removed by 5-10 cm, geotextiles are laid at the bottom (its density should be 60-100) and drainage is done using sand;

    to increase rigidity, curbs are laid on both sides according to prepared markings, a trench is dug under them, which is filled with sand, and elements are placed on top, leveled by adding pitch and gently tapping with a hammer;

    in the middle between the curbs, a cushion of sand is made, which should match the thickness of the removed soil, the sand is carefully compacted, you can use water by spraying the base with a sprayer;

    the mold for paths in the country is lubricated with sanding so that the solution does not stick to the walls and comes off easily; it is always laid from the corner directly onto the sand, checked with a level;

    a solution is prepared from one part of cement of at least M400 grade and three parts of sifted gray sand, mixed, then water is added, it is necessary to achieve a thick consistency, the solution should not spread;

    after filling the form, you can lay reinforcement or wire for reinforcement, it must be recessed in each cell, everything is leveled on top with a trowel, you can sprinkle cement on top for greater strength or pigment, rubbing it with a spatula to create a pattern;

    the form can be rearranged after about 30-60 minutes to a new location.

You can use several stencils at the same time, this will speed up the process significantly. In hot and very dry weather, it is recommended to fill the finished molds with sawdust for several days, which is poured on top plain water. This is done so that the path does not dry out, becomes as strong as possible and cracks do not appear on it.

Buy or make

Modern technologies and achievements make it possible to produce a wide variety of shapes and devices from high-strength plastic. Among them are molds for pouring garden paths with various configurations, shapes and sizes. The peculiarity of such stencils is that a sand cushion is simply prepared, and the solution is loaded and leveled into the mold. Various shapes allow you to imitate the most different materials– wood, stone, paving slabs and so on. Moreover, the cost of such a product is quite small.

This might be interesting! In the article at the following link, read about.

On average, a uniform can be purchased for 1 -1.5 thousand rubles. There are cheaper options - 500-700 rubles; you can purchase a mold for making borders as a kit. The cost of a stencil depends entirely on its size, potential use, durability and materials used. The cost may be affected by the relief on the stencil and the complexity of the contour.

It is worth noting that there are options much cheaper - 100-400 rubles. But these are the most simple models who have small sizes and with smooth straight edges. With their help, it is not possible to create an imitation of natural stone or wood. Therefore, it is better to buy more expensive models, especially since they can be used repeatedly for more than one year.

A self-made stencil will be unique, but it is not always durable and strong. Available original design, however, this form can be much more expensive. Specialists always use only factory plastic models. This is a guarantee of the result and quality of the work performed. It is also worth considering entrusting all work to qualified craftsmen. This way you can save time and nerves on arranging alleys on the site.

Video description

For those who want to arrange paths in their country house both cheaply and beautifully - best option. With this choice, you will have to work hard with your own hands and spend some time.

Wonderful imitation of stone using molds

Features of paths made using molds

It is most correct to use forms for laying pedestrian paths, as they have a small thickness and limited strength. Each template is poured separately and the solution must set before the stencil is removed. All this requires a considerable investment of time. At the same time, the use of matrices for making paths in the garden has a number of advantages:

Choose a matrix or make it yourself

The simplest option is factory-made ready-made molds, samples of which are shown in the photo. Firstly, they are inexpensive. Secondly, thin and smooth lintel shapes have variable section, which allows you to remove the matrix without destroying the concrete casting. The template is reusable. There are ready-made matrices made of plastic, silicone, rubber and metal.

If you want to make unusual garden paths, you can make molds for them yourself from wood, metal, silicone, and other available materials. In this case, it is possible to create several different stencils of the required sizes, which will provide a varied structure of the track.

Note that to speed up the paving of the surface, several forms will be required. In this case, you need to purchase enough templates, or make more yourself.

You can buy silicone matrices or make them yourself

The most durable homemade mold is made from silicone, but you will have to work hard to create it:

  1. First you need to decide on a prototype. It will be good to choose a few different samples for variety.
  2. Formwork is made around the prototype to prevent silicone from leaking.
  3. The sample and formwork are covered with lithol so that the finished matrix can be easily removed later.
  4. Fill the mold space with silicone, removing air. The operation is performed with a brush and spatula treated detergent. The base of the mold must be at least 2cm thick.
  5. After the silicone has completely cured, the mold is carefully removed. It will take 2 to 4 weeks for the material to harden.

For many, it is much easier to make molds from metal:

  1. The basis will be a metal tape with a thickness of 1.5-3mm. For a pedestrian path, a width of 3-4 cm is sufficient; for a platform under a car, tiles with a thickness of 5-6 cm are required.
  2. The tape is bent in accordance with the required pattern and connected by welding or rivets.
  3. Welding areas, protruding parts of rivets and burrs are cleaned so that the mold can be easily removed.
  4. Convenient to use as a ribbon - rings cut from metal pipes and barrels. It is possible to use other available materials.

Some examples of wood forms

The easiest way to make forms for walkways is from wood. Of course, such a matrix will last less than a silicone or metal one. In this case, there will be quite large gaps between the covering elements that can be planted with grass:

  • It is best to choose larch slats with a thickness of 15-20mm and a width of 60mm;
  • individual structural elements are connected to each other with self-tapping screws;
  • uneven internal surfaces of the mold are cleaned with emery cloth;
  • the matrix is treated with impregnation to protect it from moisture and extend its service life;
  • Before use, the mold is covered with lithol.

The process of laying a path using a mold

The process of pouring a garden path using a mold is quite simple. In this case, the matrix cannot be removed until the cement has cured.

In order not to stop the paving process, it is advisable to have several templates at once so that after filling the last form, the first one can be used again.

Using a template, we construct the track according to the following scheme:

Original options for shapes for paths

A relatively simple way to decorate a pedestrian surface is to add color to the concrete. This path will not lose color over time.

If you use acrylic paint, you can color individual fragments of the coating in different colors. The dye is applied to a dry and clean surface in several layers with intermediate drying.

Another opportunity to decorate the path at the dacha is with fragments of ceramic tiles. The tile pieces are pressed into the mortar before the mold is removed.

You can create an original path in your dacha using burdock leaves as a stencil. The leaves will be slightly different, which will ensure the individuality of each element.

Professional builders know that after concrete is cast, a cat will miraculously walk across it, and there will be its tracks on the surface. You won't give the cat any chance if you do it first. In this case, it is better to lubricate your hands with Vaseline. In this way you can capture the image of any other objects. Whatever option you choose for making a path using molds, it will be cute and practical.

We invite you to watch a video on the relevant topic.

When designing a landscape design on a site, it is necessary to take into account an integral component of any garden - this is the path. Paths should not only be comfortable and functional, but they should also be visually attractive, and they are often an element of decorative zoning.

At the same time, many do not pay enough attention to creating paths, making them from what is at hand, which ultimately leads to inconvenient and short-lived paths.

Of course, buy paving stones or natural stone for country paths it won’t be cheap, and it’s not easy to fill a cement path with your own hands, so alternative option, can become a path that is filled using special forms.

This option opens up great opportunities for creating a beautiful and convenient network of paths at a minimum cost.

Silicone forms

The most difficult thing is to make the molds for creating the paths yourself, but all the difficulties are compensated by the attractiveness and uniqueness of the finished product.

And if you get creative, you can create a real masterpiece that imitates natural stone with its characteristic texture and shape.

You can also use it as a form for a path. Silicone forms for baking in the oven. However, when using such molds you need to be especially careful, because stones and cement weigh more than the dough and if handled carelessly, you can tear the molds.

But the range of such molds is extensive and is not limited only to simple rectangular or round shapes, there are molds in the shape of a flower, heart or butterfly.

Another material for molds can be a regular plastic container. You just need to trim it so that it has the desired height, and that’s it, the plastic form for garden paths is ready.

However, if you do not have the opportunity to make molds yourself, then you can buy ready-made polyurethane molds. The only disadvantage of such models is their high price. Of course, there are inexpensive models made of plastic, but their quality is not trustworthy.

Wooden forms

If you plan to create forms for garden paths simple and clear forms, then the easiest way to do this would be to use wooden blocks, in the form of a simple formwork of a rectangular configuration or consist of several components of different sizes.

It is important that the connection be as strong as possible, so they need to be fixed with outside in the area of the corners with special metal corners. Wooden forms come with or without a bottom.

At the same time, before pouring wooden forms, they must be thoroughly lubricated with oil, otherwise the forms will be difficult to remove, and the structure will have to be completely dismantled.

In the process of pouring cement into this form, it is necessary to lay a metal mesh.

If you want to further decorate the path, then before pouring the concrete you need to put pebbles or a ceramic mosaic on the bottom of the form. This way, after the cement hardens, the decor will lie flat.

And if you want to not just lay out a cement path with pebbles, but to make a beautiful pattern, then the decor will need to be fixed on a paper sheet with PVA glue. Then the paper can be easily washed off with warm water.

Metal mold

Among the simple and available ways creating forms for garden paths yourself involves creating forms using a material such as a metal sheet.

In this case, you can even use the old one metal barrel, to do this you need to cut it with a grinder into metal strips of the width that you need. The edges of the resulting plates must be tapped so that later, during the work, you do not cut yourself on the sharp edges of the metal.

The metal removable mold is convenient because it can be used for decades, the main thing is that before pouring cement into it, it will need to be thoroughly lubricated with oil so that the cement does not stick to it.

In principle, to create a shape that will subsequently be used for garden paths, you can use any natural material.

So, you can pour a large solution, beautiful leaf burdock, you will get an interesting element for the path, on which all the veins will be visible.
