They always complicate repairs, since hiding them can be quite difficult. Therefore, many people use a special cabinet in the toilet behind the toilet as an alternative. Thus the most serious difficulty is solved.

But choosing it is not as easy as choosing furniture, because it is often a special design. The basis of such a product can be an installation made of plasterboard or any other material. If this option does not suit you, then you can use a regular wall cabinet for the toilet, which can also solve the problem.

How to choose a toilet cabinet?

Of course, in this case, such a closet in the toilet serves as decorative element. It does not always carry a functional load, but only serves as a supplement. Sometimes such a design is equipped with special shelves, and then it becomes more functional. You can store any household chemicals and other necessary things in it.

There are such sanitary cabinets different shapes, which are dictated by certain dimensions of space. Also, the color and design may not completely represent traditional options. Since it is now very popular to make each room unusual, the toilet is no exception. Therefore, there are many ways.

As already mentioned, there are two main types of such structures, which means you have two ways to resolve the issue.

Let's consider various options

Absolutely every plumbing closet in the toilet is a space that is important to use with maximum benefit. Therefore, you can use different modifications already finished products. Or take a different, more complex path - create built-in cabinets in the toilet.

Both types are considered equally useful and are unique element design. In fact, such a design has become part of the entire interior, so pay attention to how such cabinets can be designed. We offer you several options; the photo shows the most popular ideas that can be used in different apartments and private houses.

In one case it will be a well-known, but small wall cabinet for the toilet, in another it will be a more spacious design that will not only hide all the pipes, but will also become a full-fledged addition.

Depending on the size, this design can be used or exist as closed space. The appearance of any of the options must be designed in accordance with general style. Therefore, as finishing you can use the same color scheme and that material. This means that the cabinet doors can be covered with wallpaper or painted. If it is a one-piece design, then it is purchased exactly to match the overall color palette.

Many will agree that a closet for a toilet is quite a useful, practical piece of furniture for such a room. A beautiful design will add zest to the interior, plus provide the necessary functionality. There are a lot of options for using cabinets; you just have to choose how exactly you will use the free space of shelves, drawers and other elements. IN this material We'll show you how to build your own closet literally from scratch.

  • 1 Materials
  • 2 Preparation stage
    • 2.1 Frame installation
    • 2.2 Shelves
    • 2.3 Doors and fittings

Materials

Before you begin the actual assembly, you should decide on the materials that will be used to assemble the cabinet. To do this, decide what you roughly plan to store on shelves and in drawers. If the objects are heavy, it is better to use laminated chipboard sheets. If these are simple household chemicals, powders, then it is quite possible to get by with plywood with a thickness of about 10 millimeters.

One way or another, it is better to make the facade from chipboard in order to achieve an attractive appearance of the structure. If you wish and have money, these sheets can be sheathed, covered decorative films, decorate to your taste.

In addition to the materials for the cabinet itself, you will need the following components:

  • Aluminum corner profiles for fastening shelves;
  • Furniture magnets;
  • Furniture hinges;
  • Corners;
  • Beam 30 by 30 millimeters for the cabinet frame;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Dowels.

Of course, you will also need a set of tools, including:

  • Drill;
  • Screwdriver or set of screwdrivers;
  • Building level;
  • Roulette;
  • Pencil or marker.

Preparation stage

Obviously, purchasing a ready-made cabinet for a toilet is not difficult, just like installing it. Therefore, we will consider the option with independent design and assembly of this piece of furniture for the plumbing unit.

You will be satisfied with the work done, you will have something to be proud of, plus you will be able to create exactly the furniture that is ideal for your particular case. After all, not every ready-made toilet cabinet corresponds to the availability of free space, wishes or requirements of the client.

Preparing to create a toilet cabinet with your own hands begins with design. That is, you determine what the dimensions will be, where the furniture will be located, how many shelves, doors there will be, and so on. Calculate the dimensions accurately so that obvious problems do not appear during installation.

  1. Create an image of your ideal cabinet, compare your desires with the possibilities and available space.
  2. Transfer the project to the drawing, include literally every little detail, fasteners, and hinges on it.
  3. Consider the option of covering all sewer pipes, communications. At the same time, fittings and meters must remain accessible. To do this, consider the location of plumbing hatches.

Frame installation

  1. The frame is made of bars measuring 30 by 30 millimeters. Try to make all markings evenly, using a level and tape measure.
  2. Mark the wall where you plan to install the cabinet.
  3. Assemble a frame from the cut bars, connecting the elements together with corners and self-tapping screws.
  4. Now the frame needs to be fixed to the wall, guided by the pre-applied markings.
  5. Do not forget about pre-processing the bars, sanding them, covering them with stain, varnish, and paints.

Shelves

  1. Once the frame is secured to the wall, measure the boards that will serve as shelves. Make preparations.
  2. Install on the vertical bars of the frame metal corners, on which your shelves will be held.
  3. Be sure to cut out the pipe as it often ends up sitting right in the middle of the cabinets.
  4. Now all that remains is to place the shelves in their places. It is not at all necessary to fasten them firmly. It is enough that they are simply held at the corners. This way you can remove them if necessary to free up space.

Doors and fittings

Of course, a closet in a toilet cannot be called complete if it does not have doors and fittings.

  1. Take measurements for the doors, cut blanks for them. Decide in advance whether your closet will be equipped with one door, or whether it will have two hinged doors.
  2. Mark the hinges on the frame. The easiest way to make a toilet cabinet is with piano hinges, since they are easy to install, quick, and they serve quite well.
  3. Armed with a screwdriver, secure the hinges to the frame.
  4. Install furniture magnets at the marked places. It is not recommended to purchase Chinese-made products, since their service life is extremely short. It's better to pay more but get a decent product.
  5. Treat the doors with special compounds to protect them from moisture. For wood the best option will become varnish.
  6. Of course, doors can be made not only from wood or chipboard. An alternative is roller shutters, characterized by practicality and modern design. Plus, if there are tiles in the toilet, you can use simple sheets of plywood, which are then covered with the same tiles that are mounted on the walls of the bathroom.

As you can see, making a closet in the toilet with your own hands is not as difficult as it might seem. You just need to observe the correct geometry, take accurate measurements, and also confidently use the tools.

You have every right to take the easier route by purchasing already ready-made cabinets, or order a closet for the toilet by individual project. That is, you give the contractor a list of your requirements, the area of free space in the toilet, after which the manufacturer presents you with the finished work.

It is worth noting that in the case of individual orders It’s better to invite a measurer to your place. This way he can take into account the most useful information, determine the distance to the pipes, effectively hide communications, leave inspection windows, ensure the absence of condensation and other little things that an inexperienced person is unlikely to notice.

But if you take on the work yourself and do everything right top level, the toilet will become a real source of pride. Still, work is valued much more when you do it with your own hands.

The issue of comfort and coziness in housing depends directly on the aesthetic component of the interior, on its attractiveness and rational use space. The use of elements such as a plumbing cabinet in the toilet allows you to hide from the eyes of residents and guests of the house details that should not be visible. We suggest you learn how to choose the right ready-made cabinet or make it yourself.

The toilet is a very important part of the home, the further ease of its use depends on its proper arrangement. For better ergonomics, a so-called plumbing cabinet is used here, often acting as a hatch in the wall. Let's consider the main purposes of its use:

  • hiding communications is the main task of this product. Hiding all the pipes by installing them in a specially designated piece of furniture is very convenient and practical. Naked communications rarely fit into existing designs, so it's easier to hide them. They lead to most apartments in a special niche, which can easily be converted into storage;
  • arrangement extra space for storage household chemicals and other cleaning accessories will not be superfluous. Dividing the space into zones for pipes and shelves will help save a lot of space, which is so necessary in cramped bathrooms or separate toilets;
  • access to meters should always be free, so placing them in accessible location, hidden by furniture doors, will allow you to easily check water consumption in the house;
  • Pipeline breakdowns that may occur during the life of the house are easier to repair in easily accessible places than in niches walled up with tiles or clapboard. The cabinet simultaneously hides the pipes from the residents of the house and allows the plumber to get to the pipes if a leak occurs.

Varieties

The variety of sanitary cabinets allows you to apply them to any room, and the range of their facades will help you choose the doors that best suit the design of the room. This piece of furniture is distinguished according to various criteria.

By type of door

Plumbing cabinets can vary in type of door. They may be the following:

  • louvered doors - can be of two types: roller shutters and so-called pseudo blinds. Roller doors are very convenient because they do not take up space in the open position, they are easier to use in hard to reach places, where ordinary doors simply cannot open. Pseudo blinds are an ordinary door made in the form of blinds, but without moving parts, which is very convenient in terms of ventilation of a space with pipes;
  • a plumbing hatch covering a niche can be of absolutely any size thanks to the existing range from many manufacturers. This is an ordinary frame made from a corner, to which it is attached with loops. steel door with a lock. Such a hatch looks simple and uncomplicated, which may not always be combined with the design of the bathroom. A cheap and common product is also not particularly durable;
  • Hinged doors are an individual product, often created to order. When assembling a cabinet with hinged doors, you should take into account the space in front of them to fully open them. Considering the materials used, this can be an expensive proposition.

Inspection hatch

Roller shutters

Folding

According to the material of manufacture

Also, designs are divided into a number of types, depending on the materials of manufacture:

  • metal doors are used in the manufacture of hatches when equipping niches. Metal is also used to develop frames and fittings. Do not forget that we are talking about the toilet and bathroom, where iron pipes Condensation may accumulate, increasing the humidity in the air. Thus, it is better to use parts made of aluminum or other stainless metals;
  • wood is often used to create the facade and base of the cabinet. Swing wooden doors they can close the built-in closet from floor to ceiling, or separate communications with a small, neat door;
  • Parts of roller shutters or small hatches are usually made of plastic. This is a lightweight and inexpensive material;
  • In addition to wood, for swing doors you can use tiles attached to a special frame. This solution is very useful for preserving the design concept of the room when invisible hatches are used;
  • mirror surfaces can visually enlarge the space and will also fulfill their intended purpose.

Dimensions

The issue of choosing cabinet sizes is very individual, but you should know a few rules that will help you avoid unpleasant consequences incorrect installation designs:

  • a cabinet from ceiling to floor is installed if the communications in the toilet occupy the vertical wall. Such a large cabinet gives access to any part of the pipes at any time, which is very convenient during repair work. Inside large closet It's easy to install shelves and store household supplies and chemicals there. Without using a niche, you should be prepared to form a protrusion measuring approximately 40x70cm;
  • a small hatch is designed to provide access to the meter, but it is extremely difficult to carry out repairs through it, so owners who are unsure of the condition of the pipelines should choose a different cabinet size;
  • an average cabinet size, for example, 50x70cm, will provide access to the counter and allow you to install several shelves inside. Typically cabinets of this size are made of wood or with a tile front.
  • The dimensions of the secret door are determined by the dimensions of the tiles or other material with which the room is lined. Usually 2-4 tiles are used, which forms a door measuring approximately 35-35 or 35-70cm;
  • The depth of the cabinet should be such that you can use a key inside or easily reach the desired valve.

It is worth considering that installing a cabinet is practically inevitable process, therefore, even before replacing pipelines, it is worth thinking about what size the structure will be and how well it will fit into the interior of the bathroom or toilet.

Necessary accessories

For long and high-quality service of the sanitary cabinet, you should Special attention pay attention to the fittings used in this product. Let's consider what accessories are used for the manufacture and installation of such cabinets, as well as the materials of the parts:

  • loops – important component doors, supporting the entire weight of the product, responsible for the correct closing and the absence of gaps between the door and the frame. The hinges should be made of stainless alloys, so they will last longer;
  • closers, in the case of installing a folding door on a cabinet, play a very important role. This mechanism is responsible for holding the door open and closing it smoothly;
  • When using roller shutters, you should choose ones in which the frame is hidden inside the cabinet. Such a roller shutter will fit better into the interior, maintaining the laconicism of its design;
  • When installing a secret hatch lined with tiles or other material similar to the main one in the bathroom, only a mechanism is purchased that ensures the operation of the door system. The buyer himself must choose how to decorate the device. It is worth remembering that the installation of a secret hatch is carried out before finishing the walls;
  • locks and latches must operate smoothly to ensure constant and unhindered access to communications. For a secret door, locks are used that open after the user presses the door itself. This design allows the door to be deprived of any external handles and locks;
  • To ensure a tight fit of the doors to the frame, you can use furniture magnets.

How to make it yourself

Almost any repair cannot be done without the help of specialists or other hired workers, however, there come times when the owner of the house decides to do something with his own hands. It is quite possible for even less experienced repairmen to make a plumbing cabinet with their own hands. Here are some useful tips:

  • Depending on the layout of the room, you will need to install a built-in or wall-mounted plumbing cabinet. In the first case, there will be less consumption of materials and, possibly, less work;
  • Having decided on the choice of design, it is worth building a frame. Metal carcass more durable than wood and stronger. When installing a frame behind the toilet tank, it is worth remembering that it will interfere with opening swing doors. The niche frame is a simple rectangle to which the door is attached;
  • if the internal space allows you to organize storage in such a cabinet, then you need to install shelves on pre-attached horizontal metal corners. When installing shelves, it is very important that they do not touch the pipeline;
  • The last stage of assembly is the installation of the selected facade.

It is important to remember to treat all parts with impregnation against moisture, and such a cabinet will last a very long time.

Choosing a suitable cabinet for the toilet

It's amazing how spacious the closet behind the toilet can be. After all, the main problem of our toilets is the lack of storage space. toilet paper, napkins, detergents etc. It has become quite common to see a freshener on the toilet cistern or just standing on the floor, hasn’t it? But do we like it? Rather annoying. As well as the need to store things needed in the toilet in the bathroom (when the bathroom is separate). Photo of cabinets in the toilet behind the toilet

The easiest toilet to install is a cabinet with legs. It can also be very spacious (note the closet on the left in the first photo). The only thing is that when choosing such a cabinet, it is important to pay attention to its width so that it does not exceed the width of the tank and the cabinet body does not touch you.

Pay attention to the cabinets with open shelves. They can be used for beautiful decor, such as a vase with flowers, a wicker basket, a jar of soap, etc. This will make the toilet even more stylish and comfortable.

Finally, owners of private houses, in which the bathroom is usually larger than in apartments, can place a separate cabinet in the toilet next to the toilet, and not behind it.

Which option will you choose?

A convenient solution is a closet in the toilet above the toilet updated: December 4, 2015 by: Margarita Glushko

June 26, 2014

After renovation, in the back wall toilet room there is a hole left. Like this:

It would be wrong to seal it tightly, because the pipes! At the top is the main valve that shuts off the cold water in the toilet and bathroom:

Below is the water supply, excuse me, to the toilet. Again with the valve:

On sewer riser I would also like to take a look sometimes. Well, you never know, it might leak or something. But the most important thing is that it’s a disappearing place where you can load all kinds of household rubbish so that it doesn’t become an eyesore.

In the process of renovating the toilet appearance the closet was not invented. The problem was with the placement of the tiles. The most obvious option is to make two doors of equal width and cover the top with the same tiles as on the walls. However, the middle would then end up on the middle tile. And if you cut, it will be “somehow sloppy.” And if you make doors different widths, then one of the doors will turn out to be too big and again it will be “sloppy”. Actually, I gave up on this matter, waiting for a good idea to come along.

And then the idea came. To hell with tiles, give me glass!

A plan was drawn in Qcad:

200 mm wide boards, varnish, paint and other related elements were purchased from Castorama.

Well, let's get started. First, cut out the interfering piece of the vertical profile. To ensure that the strength of the remaining structure is not damaged, we fasten the racks with dowel nails. We leave “ears” around the dowels. They will then hide under the boards and will not disturb us:

We begin to assemble the cabinet box. Let's try on vertical walls. Right with a cutout for a valve:

Horizontal walls of the box:

We will assemble the structure using glue and dowels:

Paste already assembled structure It won’t work because the tiles on the walls will get in the way. Therefore, we will collect everything on the spot. We make grooves in the horizontal walls:

The accuracy of the dowel connection is ensured by a special conductor purchased on eBay:

Mark and drill holes for the shelf supports:

Typically a wood drill with a stop is used, for example this:

But you can also do this:

For each shelf we make 3 pairs of holes so that the shelves can be adjusted in height:

Let's try on the walls with installed shelf holders:

The sewer riser is not located vertically, so the template has to be adjusted for each shelf.

Let's try:

We make cutouts for water pipes locally. Our shelves are adjustable in height, so we make a cutout for the riser with a margin:

Take a transparent aqualak. It does not stink and dries quickly:

We do not use stain, because the wood under the transparent varnish turns out to be exactly the same color as the wall tiles.

We varnish all the shelves and boards of the box. In 5 layers. After each layer, sand all parts.

Terracotta color:

It matches the color of the butterflies on the tiles.

We protect masking tape tile edges. We paint the wall and pipes. This is the first layer:

Then a couple more layers.

Installing the side walls. We attach them to the walls polyurethane foam. Install and glue the cross members:

We install shelves. At this stage, an unpleasant moment was discovered - periodically occurring condensation on the pipe cold water in the valve area. On the right top corner you can see the damp faucet:

This is bad for both the paint on the pipe and the shelf. It is necessary to somehow thermally insulate the pipe in this place. I was considering options with thermoflex tubes. But it is not clear how to organize a sealed connection in the area of the tap. In short, there was no obvious solution, so I put it off until later...

The next stage is the doors. It also turned out to be a kind of quest. It was necessary to find a common glazier who would cut out the required piece and sand the ends. The workshop that used to be near the house has closed. I ordered glass from the workshop at Shalyapina, 2a. There is also a Furniture Dvor store there.
