The methodological manual outlines the basic requirements imposed by the state educational standard of higher professional education (GOS VPO) for diploma projects, the main stages of diploma design and their content, the procedure for preparing a diploma project, the requirements of GOST and SUSU standards for the design of a diploma project. The appendices provide examples of the design of some sections of the diploma project.

The methodological manual was compiled on the basis of the experience of the Department of Economic Theory and World Economy in the management and defense of diploma projects, the requirements of the State Educational Standard of Higher Professional Education for the level of training of specialists, the requirements of GOST and SUSU standards for the preparation of a diploma project.

The manual is intended for graduate students of the Department of Economic Theory and World Economy of all specialties and forms of study.

We wish you success in preparing and defending your graduation project!

STAGES OF FINAL STATE CERTIFICATION OF GRADUATES

Upon completion of the theoretical course of study, students are sent to pre-diploma practice, which represents the first stage of diploma design. After successfully completing pre-diploma internship, students undergo final state certification, which includes the following main stages:

1. State examination in the specialty;

2. Graduate design.

It is important to remember that students who have academic debt in at least one theoretical course are not allowed to take the final state certification.

Undergraduate practice

Pre-diploma practice is the first preliminary stage of diploma design. Before being sent to practice, a student must choose an object of pre-diploma practice. The object can be any enterprise, bank, state and municipal government bodies. However, when choosing an object of practice, it is necessary to remember that during the internship, the student must collect material for writing a diploma project on the chosen topic. Having chosen the object of practice, the student is obliged to provide a letter from the organization of consent to accept the student for pre-graduate practice. The letter is drawn up on the organization's letterhead and signed by an official, whose signature is affixed with the organization's seal. Without providing a letter, the student will not be sent to practice and, therefore, will be subject to expulsion. A sample letter format is presented in Appendix A.

The direction of students for pre-diploma internship is formalized by order of the rector.

Before pre-diploma practice, the student chooses the topic of the diploma project on which he will work. There are two options for choosing a topic. The student can choose a topic in accordance with his object of practice from the list proposed by the department for the corresponding specialty, or propose his own topic for the diploma project. In the latter case, the student, two weeks before the pre-diploma internship, must write an application addressed to the head of the department with a request to approve the proposed topic of the diploma project. If the head of the department does not agree with the topic proposed by the student, the student selects the topic of the diploma project from the list of the department.

Based on the results of the students’ choice of topics, each will be assigned a supervisor of pre-diploma practice from the faculty of the department, who will subsequently become the supervisor of the diploma project. From this moment on, the student is required to attend consultations with the supervisor.

When sending students to pre-diploma practice, they will be given a diploma design algorithm, which indicates the terms and dates of all the main stages of the final state certification.

The result of the internship is the preparation of a report on the completion of pre-diploma internship, which in most cases represents the first and second chapters of the diploma project. The preparation of a report on pre-diploma practice is subject to the same design requirements as for the diploma project, set out below. In addition, the student submits a review from the place of practice about the student’s work, which is written to the head of the department on the organization’s letterhead with the official’s signature and seal and a mandatory indication of the recommended grade. Reports and reviews are submitted to the department for verification the next day after the end of the internship. Reports submitted late will not be reviewed.

The student receives a grade for pre-diploma practice. In case of an unsatisfactory assessment of pre-diploma practice or absence (untimely submission) of a report, the student is not allowed to take part in the final state certification, which entails expulsion.

Graduate design

The final stage of the final state certification of graduates is the preparation and defense of the diploma project (thesis design), which, in turn, can also be divided into several stages:

1. Approval of the topic of the diploma project;

2. Preparation and execution of the diploma project;

3. Signing of the diploma project and its review;

4. Standard control;

5. Approval of the diploma project by the head of the department;

6. Pre-defense of the diploma project;

7. Defense of the diploma project.

PROCEDURE FOR PREPARING A DIPLOMA PROJECT

Standard control

The diploma project signed by the student, supervisor and reviewer, along with a review, feedback, posters and a disk with the text of the diploma project and presentation, is submitted for regulatory control. Standards inspector by correspondence course – Svetlichnaya S.V.

The purpose of normative control is to verify the presence of all necessary accompanying documents, signatures and seals on them, as well as to verify compliance of the diploma project with the requirements of GOST and SUSU standards. In case of non-compliance with the requirements, the diploma project is returned to the student for revision. If the thesis project meets all the requirements, it is not returned to the student and is sent for approval by the head of the department.

Defense of the diploma project

The final and most important event of the graduation project is the defense of the diploma project. The State Certification Commission (SAC) consisting of a chairman, five commission members and a technical secretary is present at the defense of the diploma project.

At the defense of the thesis project, the student must come with a presentation on a floppy disk, handouts in the number of copies corresponding to the number of committee members, and a report.

When preparing a report on a graduation project, it is necessary to calculate the time. The student is given no more than 10 minutes to report. The report should reveal the relevance of the topic, the main provisions of the theoretical part of the diploma project, the main conclusions based on the results of the analysis in the second chapter of the diploma project and the main proposals and recommendations developed in the third chapter of the project.

The procedure for defending a diploma project includes the following main stages:

1. Announcement of defense by the technical secretary. During the announcement of the defense, the graduate student comes out and distributes handouts and takes a place behind the podium.

2. The student makes a report for 10 minutes. The graduate’s speech begins with the phrase “Dear Chairman, dear members of the state certification commission” and ends with the phrase “Thank you for your attention.”

3. Questions from commission members and answers to them.

4. Announcement of the review and review and the graduate student’s responses to the comments contained in them.

5. Student's final speech.

There are no periods in headings.

The same requirements apply to the design of the application text as to the main text of the thesis project. If an appendix (for example, appendix A) contains a table or figure, then they are numbered as follows - appendix number, dot, table (figure) number. For example, table A.1, figure A.1. The page numbering in the appendix is continuous with the text of the diploma project, i.e. continues numbering the pages of the diploma project.

Features of using spaces. The surname is separated from the initials by a non-breaking space (Ctrl+Shift+Space), and there are no spaces between the initials. Spaces are used in abbreviations such as “etc.” Digits in long numbers (more than four digits) are separated by non-breaking spaces of three digits each, for example 100,000,000.

A space is not placed after an opening parenthesis or before a closing parenthesis or quotation mark. Dimensions and percentages are separated from the figure by a non-breaking space (5 thousand rubles, 20%, $ 5).

Features of the use of punctuation marks. A period is never placed at the end of headings and subheadings. The period is not placed in the headings of tables or at the end of captions under figures. A period is not placed in abbreviations of the names of units of systems of measures, for example, ha, mm, cm, kg, million, billion. If words are not abbreviated according to generally accepted rules or there is no generally accepted rule, a period must appear after the abbreviation.

If it is necessary to indicate several sources in one link, then their numbers are indicated in the same brackets in ascending order separated by commas, for example. If it is necessary to indicate additional information in a footnote, for example, a page number, then it is formatted as follows.

Direct costs are costs associated with the production of a certain type of product and can be directly and directly attributed to its cost.

Footnotes in the text are formatted using a text editor (insert\footnote) and placed on the same page where the footnote index is placed. It is possible to place all footnotes at the end of the explanatory note.

Table design

All tables in the thesis project must have a number and name. The table number and its name are located before the table. Tables are located immediately after the paragraph in which there is a link to this table. The link to the table is formatted as follows: (Table 1). The font of the text in the table may not match the font of the main text of the thesis project. Tables are numbered in Arabic numerals, and the numbering can be either continuous or within a section. The table number is printed on the left edge of the page “Table 2”; there is no dot at the end. Immediately after the table number, its name is printed through a dash. The name is printed in lowercase letters, with the exception of the first capital. The text in the table header is centered, the numbers in the table are aligned to the right, the text in the side of the table is aligned to the width or left, and the table itself is centered on the page. After the table, an indent of one line is made. For example:

When designing tables, it is important to remember that the numbers in the table must have some kind of unit of measurement. If all numbers in a column have the same unit of measurement, then it is indicated in the header in the corresponding column, separated by a comma after the column name. For example:

Table 1 – Grouping of production costs by elements

If all numbers in a table row have the same unit of measurement, then it is reflected in the row header. For example:

Table 1 – Grouping of production costs by elements

If all numbers in the table have a unit of measurement, then it is indicated on the next line after the table name on the right edge. For example:

Table 1 – Grouping of production costs by elements

in thousand rubles

If the table is large and does not fit on one page, then the table header should be moved to the next page, and the entry “Continuation of Table 1” should be made in front of it on the left edge. At the same time, it is unacceptable for the table name or its header to be on one page, and the rest of the table on another.

If any data is presented in the table, a link to the source of information is required. The link is made directly below the table. The link text is printed in 12 font. For example:

Table 1 – Grouping of production costs by elements
