Model of tulle curtains for 3D max. What it is

In today's lesson we will look at how to make curtains in 3ds max for our interiors. For this we will use the Cloth modifier - we have already covered. Since it works using animation, building the correct shape of the canvas based on the interaction of hard and soft objects (for example, creasing on a hard floor), its use produces the most “living” fabrics.

Creating realistic fabric begins with preparing objects for animation. First, let's model our canvas. Let's open a side view and draw a Plane on it with dimensions of 3000 mm by 2000 mm, the number of horizontal and vertical segments is 45.

I advise you to always work in millimeters - these are used by default in most drawings and diagrams.

Now let's create a solid base - a floor on which our fabric will wrinkle. We build a box and place it under the future curtain. Dimensions and segmentation do not matter, the main thing is that it covers the space around the canvas, with a margin.

We set its width, like a curtain: 2000 mm, and make it narrower - 50 mm. Turn on 3 and move the resulting rail clearly to the top of the canvas. Turn off the binding.

This is how it turned out in perspective - the modeling of the base is completed, let's move on to creating the animation.

Cloth modifier application and animation

Now it's just a blank and two bars. Animation, coupled with the Cloth modifier, will help us bring the fabric to life by crumpling it realistically. Select Plane and apply this modifier to it.

Click the Object Properties button, the following menu opens:

Now we only have Plane in the list, click the Add Objects button and add our two boxes. Select them and click Add.

Now select the boxes in the list and give them the Collision Object parameter.

And for Plane we select Cloth, with the Cotton preset. Click Ok.

Then we need to hook the top of the curtain to our makeshift curtain rod. To do this, select Plane, press the plus sign on Cloth and select Group. Vertexes will appear on the curtain. Select the top two rows of points.

Click the Make Group button and give the new group a name.

Find the Sim Node button and select what we will attach the points to - to the top box. Near the name of the group below we will have a line with an explanation.

Now we need to set exactly how our objects (the floor and cornice) will interact with the fabric. To do this, find the Auto Key button at the bottom of the screen. Click on it - the viewport frame should turn red. And move the slider below from 0 to 35.

Select the Select and Uniform scale tool and reduce our ruler along the X axis.

Then we select the floor and slightly raise it: let it intersect with the canvas.

Press Auto Key and return the slider to 0. Now, if you twist it, you get this animation:

Before starting the animation, check the settings of the Simulation Parameters rollout for Plane. To ensure that the edges of our folds do not intersect, there should be this checkbox with a value of at least 1.

Scroll up the scroll and press the Simulate button.

If you did everything correctly, miscalculation will begin and the fabric will gradually shrink. This is the completely realistic 3D model I came up with:

To get an even more realistic result, I recommend making the mesh thicker, but the curtain will take much longer to take into account.

Creating fabric texture

We successfully created the curtain, now we need to put it on. Let's look at how to make transparent tulle and curtain material for two visualizers: Corona Renderer and Vray.

Vray

Let's start by creating the tulle. Let's select it and give it thickness using the Shell modifier: one will be enough. This is very important, since for Vray to render correctly, the object must have thickness.

Open the materials menu and create a new Vray cell. We make these settings for it and apply it to the tulle. It is very important to check the Affect shadows box here so that the shadow from the curtain falls on the floor.

We will add a texture to the main curtain. To do this, create a VrayMtl cell again, click on the square next to Diffuse and select Bitmap.

We find the fabric texture we need on the computer. Apply it to the second curtain and click the Show Shaded Material in Viewport button if the texture is not visible on the model.

Apply a UVW Map, editing the texture dimensions. for this Vray scene look here, and here is the result:

Corona Renderer

Now let's look at how to create curtain and tulle material in Corona. But, in principle, if you use this visualization system, then materials can always be simply .

So, let's create tulle. We use the new CoronaMtl material slot. We make these settings and apply them to the model:

Let's add a texture to another model. Select another CoronaMtl slot, next to Color select a square and a Bitmap.

Find the texture and apply it to the curtain. Click Show Shaded Material in Viewport, edit using UVW Map if necessary. This is what the rendered result looks like:

Curtains create coziness in an apartment, complement its design and can become the highlight of the interior. Some people prefer products that are plain or with small prints, others like something exclusive – just for such people there are unique curtains with a 3D effect. They will highlight creativity and individual character any room.

What it is?

With development modern technologies interior design is changing. A striking example is a new design of curtains with a 3D effect. That is, an image is applied to a homogeneous canvas using a thermal machine, which is then fixed. The properties of the fabric do not change. The pictures can be different: fruits, flowers, landscapes, animals and even famous paintings. You just need to choose suitable option, but take into account some features:

  • It is not advisable to hang voluminous curtains on windows in a room with an area of less than 18 square meters. m. Due to the large image on the product, the room will be visually smaller.
  • The best option there will be those drawings that continue the room deeper: an alley in the park, a path to the beach, an arch to the garden, etc.
  • 3D curtains with a pattern should not be hung if the wallpaper in the room already has some kind of painting - visually it will look too bulky.

The shade must be selected to match the tone of the interior or in contrasting colors, maintaining harmony and balance.

Advantages and disadvantages

Curtains with voluminous pictures look stylish and modern. They are gaining popularity among buyers due to a number of advantages:

  • Large selection of images. Everyone purchases a product with the most appropriate image for a specific room.
  • Visual increase premises. Patterned curtains not only decorate the room, but also visually increase its area due to the effect of presence and perspective.
  • Practicality. Thanks to special UV printing, which is used during the application of the design, it does not fade over time and continues to delight its owners for many years.
  • Environmental friendliness. The paint used for volumetric photo printing is environmentally friendly and therefore absolutely safe for human health. This allows you to hang the product even in a children's room.
  • Easy to care for. Curtains with a 3D effect do not need special care, so they can be washed and ironed like regular curtains.

Such products also have disadvantages, but they are much fewer than their advantages. The disadvantages include the fact that the folds on curtains with a three-dimensional image are very noticeable. True, the drawing is not distorted at all and looks realistic.

Designers also focus the attention of buyers on the fact that 3D curtains will be relevant in Electrical and High-Tech styles, but in Classic or Modern interiors they will be of no use.

Types of models

Individual preferences come into play important role when choosing curtains with a pattern. However, it is also worth considering the interior design of the apartment where this product will be a decorative element. In this regard, there are several types of 3D curtains:

  • Japanese. They move freely along the cornice and are often used as screens or mobile partitions.

  • Roman. They are popular due to their unusual design, which allows them to be installed in a window opening, on walls or ceilings. Treatment with a special compound repels dirt and bacteria from the surface of the product and prevents static. As a result, the fabric becomes wear-resistant.

  • Rolled. Such 3D curtains are installed according to the size of the window. When closed, they roll up into a small roll. Since they roll out on the glass, they create the illusion of a gorgeous view from the window.

Materials

Before you buy beautiful curtains, you need to decide on the canvas from which they will be created. Some fabrics allow daylight to pass through and delight owners with a three-dimensional image only at sunset, while others do not allow daylight even during the day. sun rays enter the apartment. Products with a three-dimensional pattern are produced from the following materials.

Natural:

  • Satin. Cotton type of fabric. It is lightweight, but durable, pleasant to the touch. It is often confused with satin due to its shiny appearance.
  • Gabardine. Material dotted with inclined scars. It is thin and at the same time durable. It is considered environmentally friendly, as it is highly breathable.
  • Chiffon. Translucent fabric is created by combining several threads: silk, cotton, synthetic. This type fabric is popular among buyers.

Synthetic:

  • Viscose. This type of material is created from natural raw materials, but using an artificial method. It allows air to pass through well and absorbs moisture.
  • Polyester. An artificial fabric made from polyester fibers. This material dries quickly after washing and sets its shape when heated.

Sun protection materials are multi-layered fabrics that do not allow sunlight to penetrate into the room.

The first two types have their advantages: despite the ability to transmit light, they are resistant to fading and do not lose color after washing. The last type of canvas is called Blackout. A special feature of this curtain material is its three-layer structure, where inner part- black thread that does not transmit light. As a result, the product will have a spectacular appearance in the morning, during the day, and at night. Such volumetric curtains are very popular.

How to choose?

Curtains with a 3D effect are unique in that you can independently select the image on them to match the design of your apartment. When choosing a pattern, you need to take into account the style of the interior. Before you make a purchase, you should pay attention to the following points:

  • Furniture upholstery of the same shade goes well with products with multi-colored elements.
  • Classic goes well with Italian furniture and curtains with the image of a palace - it will look majestic, elegant and rich.
  • If you want to create a romantic atmosphere, for example, in the bedroom, you can purchase 3D curtains with flowers depicted on them. But if there are already roses, lilies, daisies and other types of flowers on the wallpaper, then there should not be them on the curtains, otherwise it will look cumbersome.
  • For small room It’s better to choose a product depicting a perspective landscape, which will visually expand the space, and for a spacious room, a large drawing is suitable.
  • For the kitchen, you can purchase curtains with fruit or vegetable patterns - they will fit harmoniously into the interior.
  • A panoramic view of the mountains, a vertical geometric pattern or images with plants visually lift the ceiling.
  • 3D curtains with a picture of a park alley expand the space of the room.
  • A drawing with a continuation of the room will look luxurious in any apartment.

Having successfully selected a product, you can create spectacular design interior

Caring for 3D curtains will depend on what material they are made from. However, there are General requirements which should be followed. One of the main things is to ventilate the product at least once a week. If this condition is met, you will not need to wash the curtains often. If such a need arises, you should adhere to some rules:

  • Wash by hand or in washing machine, but only in delicate mode.
  • The water in which the product is washed should not be hot (30 degrees).
  • Use gentle detergents for washing.
  • If curtains are machine washed, do not turn on the spin cycle. It is better to get them out of there and let the water drain.
  • Iron only in extreme cases.
  • To keep the curtains even, they are hung damp.
  • If it is a Japanese type of product, it is simply wiped with a napkin slightly moistened with water.

If the above requirements are met, a product with a three-dimensional pattern will serve its owner for a long time.

Interior ideas

Each room requires an individual approach to design, as it has its own purpose: for meals, sleep for adults or children, relaxation with family, friends, etc. Respecting following rules decorating the room, you can achieve the desired effect and avoid disharmony:

  • Bedroom. By purchasing a product for the bedroom, the issue of darkening the room is resolved. Depending on the style of the room, you should choose an image. For lovers of Modernism and Urbanism, a drawing of a night metropolis would be appropriate, and for fans oriental style There are 3D curtains with soft pink flowers or a sakura branch.

Hello. In this lesson I will describe three ways to model curtains:

  • how to create curtains using the Loft modifier
  • how to create curtains using Cloth
  • how to create curtains with the Surface modifier

1. Creating curtains in 3d max using the Loft modifier

Using the Line tool, create three splines like in the picture. A straight spline is the height of the curtain, a snake-shaped spline will be the width and number of folds, and the third spline will indicate the shape of the future curtain.

Now let’s assign the straight spline (curtain height) the shape of our second spline with folds. To do this, select the first spline, go to the Geometry – Compound Objects tab, select the Loft modifier, in the menu that appears, click the Get Shape button and select another spline.

Now, with the help of our third spline, we will make a beautiful selection for our curtain.
To do this, go to the Modify tab and select Fit in the Deformation rollout. Select the deformation along the X axis, then click the Get Shape button and select the third spline. Using the arrows, rotate the spline so that it fits correctly.

To make smooth folds, apply the MeshSmooth modifier to the curtain.

This is what happened.

2. Creating curtains in 3d max using the Cloth modifier

To begin, create a Plane, with actual dimensions future curtains. For me it is 2.5 by 1.5 meters, and add more segments so that when we generate the folds, they will turn out smooth.

Now create two Boxes like in the picture. One will gather the fabric at the top, the other in the middle.

Select Plane, go to the Modify tab, and from the Modifier List select the Cloth modifier.

Click the Object Properties button. In the window that opens, select our Plane from the list, in the settings we will change only two points: we will indicate that this will be fabric, and we will select the type of fabric. Check the box next to Cloth, and select one of the types of fabric from the list below. Different fabric has different properties, folds are formed differently. I chose silk. And click Ok.

Now we will tie our fabric to the boxes, with the help of which we will assemble the fabric.
First the first box. To do this, expand the Cloth scroll, select the Group selection method, select groups of points, as in the picture (hold the Ctrl key to select the next group, and do not deselect the previous one).

Then click the Make Group button. We have created a group of points (you can see it below in the list),

Now let's bind it to the top object. To do this, select a group from the list, then click the Note button, and select Box.

Now also create a second group of points and also attach it to another box.

Let's move on to the next step - animating the boxes. We animate in order to create folds in the fabric.

Select the bottom box, first move the center of the object to the top edge, to do this, go to the Hierarchy tab, click Affect Pivot Only and move the center to the edge, then exit the Hierarchy tab.

Now we activate the Set Key command on the bottom toolbar (this way we switch to the animation key creation mode), and press the button with the key, with this we have created the first initial animation key.

After this, move the animation slider to frame 30, then scale the box as in the picture and click on the key (we create a second animation key). Now if you move the slider, you will see the object animate.

Using the same principle, make an animation for the second object.

And the last steps. Select the fabric, in the parameters check the box next to Self Collision (1), this will prevent the fabrics from intersecting.

Finish. Click the Simulate button and wait for the animation to be generated.

Here is the result.

3. Creating curtains in 3d max using the Surface modifier

This method is best suited when you need to accurately model a certain curtain model down to the smallest details.

In the Top view, create a spline like this.

Then copy this spline, move it below and make it smaller (scale) like in the image below. Then make a copy of this small spline and also move it below.
