Make a plywood box. Plywood flight box

Everything on the farm is useful - cluttered loggias and sheds often suffer from this postulate. But sooner or later there comes a time of excess of carpentry, fastening materials, parts, consumables and tools for working with them. You can organize and put all this in a special tool box. Making it yourself is not tricky. The easiest and most affordable way to use plywood is as a base.

An ordinary tool box is not complex design. If you have minimal skills and a work plan, a high school student can do it in a couple of labor education lessons. Plywood is almost always no alternative for such carpentry work. Don’t even consider other material options for the box, because it:

  • durable;
  • light;
  • easy to process;
  • environmentally friendly;
  • affordable;
  • often on hand as leftovers from other jobs.

Standard set of materials and tools for assembling a box:

Attention! The contents of the box can be different: large-sized devices or all kinds of small things. Prepare for work with this factor in mind.

Before work, you will also need to draw up a rough drawing. Based on the type of construction and size of the box. Prepare sheets of plywood - clean them of dust and debris. Assembling a tool chest uses basic carpentry principles.

The simplest designs of plywood boxes

Making the simplest box, as in the photo, begins with marking and cutting out blanks. After cutting, you should have 4 walls and a bottom on your hands. The back and front sides of the box can be made in the shape of a cone so that it is convenient to attach a handle to them. The build procedure looks like this:

  1. Put all the pieces together. Check that all dimensions of the parts match.
  2. Disassemble the workpieces. Lubricate the contact areas of adjacent elements with wood glue and reassemble.
  3. Secure the components with screws. Immediately clean the structure from excess glue.
  4. Attach handles and other fittings to the planned places. In some cases it is quite convenient to attach a lid to the box.

Advice. Instead of plywood in this version of the tool box, you can use a regular edged board.

If you make long walls, you can assemble a box for larger devices that are inconvenient to keep in rag bags or factory-made plastic boxes. Without minimal cover, tools risk getting damaged or rusted. The problem is solved using the same board or thick plywood (10 mm). Video instructions will help you understand how to make simple structures.

Simple plywood box

Experienced carpenters advise making a box big size without a lid - it’s more convenient. Inside there are no more than 2 compartments. You can connect the parts of the box with self-tapping screws or nails. The process looks like this:

  1. Cut parts of the structure from the blanks. In addition to the bottom and a pair of long side walls, you will need two short end parts, which will also differ in height.
  2. Make slits at the top of the end sides to secure the handle.
  3. Connect the parts of the box in the same way as in the first option.

Tool box with slats, angles and hinges

This design also requires a bottom and two pairs of identical blanks for the walls. You will also need a lid, the dimensions of which will allow you to cover the resulting box. The walls with the bottom are fixed with slats:

  1. Nail them along two adjacent sides of the perimeter of the lid and bottom.
  2. Assemble only the sides of the box, securing the pieces together with metal corners.
  3. Empirically mark the location of the slats for the remaining pair of sides.
  4. Lower the bottom with the slats towards the bottom. Screw along the contour.
  5. If necessary, attach legs to the box.

Advice. It is better that the height of the corners coincides with the height of the sides of the box.

The hinged model is interesting. It looks like two simple small boxes. The boxes are connected with loops. It turns out that the parts are both a useful container and a cover for one another. Peculiarities:

  • It is better to use plywood 6 mm thick;
  • for half-boxes, a depth of 15-20 cm is enough;
  • in one of the halves you can make retractable drawers with compartments for consumables;
  • the tool will be located in the second half - secure it with any type of fastener.

You can improve this assembly a little and get a real organizer. Sliding mechanism- what distinguishes it from elementary models. Making such a box is more difficult:

  1. Assemble the bottom deep box with an open top using plywood. The space inside it can be divided into two compartments by a partition.
  2. Make a pair of boxes. The width of each pair must match the width of the lower compartment. Make retractable lids for the drawers.
  3. Place the boxes on metal plates, which will form a retractable base. An example for a 3-story structure, when it is necessary to fasten on both sides separately:
  • a couple of lower levels;
  • all three (two longest plates);
  • middle and upper floors.

The technology allows you to move individual levels of drawers. If you have any difficulties, refer to the diagram. Assembling any box is not difficult. Success is guaranteed by the couple skillful hands and necessary materials.

Very interesting project racks with plywood boxes that can be removed and sorted.

The angle of inclination and distance between the boxes allows you to see the contents even when they are hanging on the stand.

Slot on back side allows you to hang the box on a board up to two centimeters thick. Boxes can be hung on multi-stage panels and messages can be engraved on the front of the box.

From two sheets of plywood 62x46cm and 4mm thick using laser cutting in 30 minutes you get 6 boxes.

DIY box - both for yourself and for the future

Wood is a noble and grateful material, especially some of its species. Products from natural wood always “breathe” and emit subtle warmth – if they are made by hand skilled craftsman or even just “as for myself.” But you always need to start with something simple, so today we will make an ordinary box with our own hands and consider the prospects along the way.

Regular box

Today we have “fruit containers, small” playing for the team of regular boxes, which you see in the first picture. The future is represented by a designer product put up for sale for a lot of money.

Designer box

And they have only one thing in common: They are made from better or worse, but processed wood. To process wood, you need not only desire, as you understand. You need basic skills and, most importantly, tools and equipment.

Required Tools

There is nothing more pointless in the age of technological progress than scraping parquet with a piece of glass and being proud of such a “hand-made” product. Even the monkey picked up a stick when it got tired of hitting its competitors with its bare limbs.

Also in Soviet times I, through great connections, purchased a household woodworking machine. Tabletop, compact and most importantly: multifunctional. At that time there was only one model on sale, quite expensive and not very comfortable, but now choosing the right one based on price-quality is not a problem.

Household woodworking machine

Using the Internet, I discovered a domestic machine with the required configuration for only 12 thousand rubles. I won’t name the brand – everyone is already fed up with advertising. So this unit answers the question “How to make a box out of wood” completely. All that's left to buy is:

  • Hammer.
  • Roulette.
  • Pencil.
  • Right construction angle.

This concludes the instrumental question as far as woodworking is concerned.

Now it’s worth explaining this acquisition. Using this machine, which is quite heavy, but slightly larger than a suitcase, we can make box number one from an unedged, unplaned inch board 1300 mm long and 250 mm wide.

Preparing the box parts

Our machine has a circular saw with good speed - about 2000 per minute. With her help we are from unedged boards we do the trimming. Using a guide ruler, we first cut off one long end, and then, setting the width to 200 mm, the second.

The guide carriage provides you with any cross-cut angle - we are now interested in 90 degrees. First, we saw off the uneven (usually) edge of the board, and then from it we cut four dies 200 mm long and one 240 mm long. For now these are just blanks.

You won’t believe it, but the machine has an electric plane that is height adjustable. To begin with, set it to 1 mm and run the planes of the workpieces on both sides. Next, we set it to 0.5 millimeters and achieve a thickness of 20 mm for our workpieces, cutting off the “ugly” side - this will always be found even on an ideal board.

Two blanks have already turned into parts. These are the future sidewalls 200x200x20 mm. If you did everything carefully, they don’t even need to be sanded - after all, we’re just building a fruit box for now.

Let me remind you that we are making the entire box from one single board, so the planks also remain 20 mm thick - why plan them?

We cut the remaining three dies into 45 mm lengths along the wood grain. Three slats will be redundant (one 240 mm long and two 200 mm long) if we want ventilation, that is, gaps between the slats.

Assembling the box

It’s said loudly, of course, but there are nuances in everything. For example: In our case, nails should be 1.5x50 mm, long, but thin, so as not to split the parts.

Create a unique plywood box with your own hands

First nail the top and bottom side slats to the end cut of the sidewalls, and then distribute the rest between them.

I screwed the long 240 mm strips from below onto 3.5x35 mm screws so that the tomatoes would not spill out at my feet. On factory boxes they are additionally secured with metal tape, but it would have scratched my table.

We figured out how to make a box with our own hands, but is it really worth stopping there? Personally, all the work took me a little more than an hour and my wife immediately selected the product for some decoration - it turned out so neat.

What if you round off the ends of the parts using a milling cutter, which is also built into the machine? Or turn the balusters on the turning attachment included in the kit and make a decorative box in the form of a mini-balcony?

Finally, cut out the shaped parts with a jigsaw, process them, cut them into a corner and put them up for sale, putting the master from picture number two to shame? Why not?

A good tool is half the success. The second half is having a head and a desire to do something with your own hands.

I wish you success.

Do-it-yourself drawers - from calculations to assembly

Oddly enough, in an ordinary closet you can find an illustration for an article on the topic “Who are you really?” Men, who always mock women about the mess in their handbags, create a uniform mess on the linen shelves. But women, so disorganized from a male point of view, lay out their clothes strictly according to Feng Shui.

The shelves are not the best at all comfortable spot for storing small things, especially all sorts of invisible girl's panties or men's socks, but standard cabinets do not provide frills. A real man should overcome difficulties, and not cry over them, so making drawers with your own hands is not a feat. We turn on the body's reserves and get down to business.

Drawers are very easy to make

List of required tools

  • Drill or powerful cordless screwdriver with a cartridge sharpened to at least 10 mm.
  • An electric jigsaw or someone you know from a furniture manufacturing company. Precise sawing will be required, so in this case it is better to find a friend. Right angles in future parts are required, and you should not risk the material for the sake of self-affirmation.
  • Roulette.
  • Pencil.
  • A straight construction angle, preferably with a measuring ruler.
  • Iron.
  • Drill bits 5 and 8 mm for wood.
  • Bits for a screwdriver. Among them there must be a hexagonal one - for confirmations.
  • Dull knife, rag, sandpaper.

Such tools will always come in handy. If you don’t yet have the necessary arsenal, you can safely buy a good one right away - so that you don’t have to throw it away later.

Drawers in the simplest example

To understand how to make a drawer, you must first decide on the location of its permanent location. Simply put: measure the space you are going to equip with drawers. Above we talked about the closet, but that means internal drawers, hidden by doors, and this is already the second dan on the home furniture maker scale.

How to make a box from plywood

While we haven’t grown up yet, we’ll start training on pedestals, it’s easier with them.

The whole rework is to remove the door and do not forget to unscrew the mating parts of the hinges. Space for drawers is defined. For example, we take a kitchen cabinet with a width of 400 mm, a height (with countertop) of 850 mm and a working depth of 500 mm. The working depth is measured along the inner surface of the sidewall, that is, where the box will ride.

Let's assume that we want to put five identical drawers instead of one door. Standard façade kitchen cabinet dimensions 715x397 mm - you can check. It is unlikely that we will want to use it, so we calculate the dimensions of the drawer fronts, leaving only the width the same. Divide 715 mm by five, we get 143 mm and subtract the gaps between the drawers.

Total: We need five drawer fronts measuring 140x397 mm each.

Selection and calculation of guides

The choice of guides is a key point in the project. The most convenient are full roll-out guides. Regular roller blades are also suitable, but to mark them you will have to practice on your neighbor’s nightstands. However, the tolerances for both are the same, so you can experiment. Some overly thrifty citizens may choose ordinary pieces of wood as guides, so we immediately say that they are not from our sandbox and the size calculations given here will not suit them.

Full roll-out guides

All guides have a length pitch of 50 mm. If the internal depth of the cabinet = 500 mm exactly, then the guides need to be purchased 450 mm long so that the drawers close properly.

Roller guides

We recommend full roll-out guides and we will dance from them. Marking for guides is not a difficult task, but it requires a certain amount of care from the master. The countdown is always from above - the first thing you need to remember. The upper pair (the full rollout guides do not differ between left and right, which is also very convenient) is marked at the height equal to half height of the upper facade, that is, in our case = 70 mm. Subsequent ones are also very easy to mark. The formula is:

Top distance = Height of top line + (height of top façade(s) + tolerances).

The marking line is a fastening line, that is, you will need to get into it with a self-tapping screw through the fastening hole in the guide.

Here it will look like this:

  • 70 mm + (140 mm + 3 mm) = 213 mm.
  • Next 70 mm + (140 + 140 + 3 + 3) = 356 mm.
  • And so on.

We have described everything in detail in case you want to make a non-standard drawer with your own hands or if they (the drawers) will different heights. The tolerance in all cases is approximately three millimeters.

Detailing drawers

We dance from the facades above. For drawers, it is not at all necessary to buy a whole sheet of laminated chipboard - unless you plan to completely abandon doors in the entire apartment. Sold in construction stores furniture panels small size, which can be used as blanks. We order cutting of parts there. All calculations were made for laminated chipboard with a thickness of 16 mm and an edge with an adhesive base with a thickness of 0.5 mm.

  • 140x397 – 5 pieces, facades. We described above how to calculate them.
  • 110x450 – 10 pieces, drawer sides. As you can see, in height we subtract 30 mm from the facade, and the length coincides with the length of the guides.
  • 110x310 – 10 pieces, front and back walls of the box.

We obtained the width of the last part as follows. If the cabinet is made of 16 mm thick chipboard, then the width of its internal space is 400 - (16 * 2) = 368 mm.

Attention! It may be different - be sure to measure it.

The front and back walls of the drawers are attached between the sides of the drawer, so immediately minus two times 16 mm each. Full roll-out guides, like roller ones, take 25 mm (pair). Total: 368 - (16 * 2) - 25 = 311 mm. Let's drop another millimeter for free breathing and we get 310 mm. Using this formula, you can calculate the dimensions of the parts for any cabinet width.

It’s a good idea to attach a bottom to the box, otherwise it will look weird. In this case, we cut it out of hardboard (fibreboard) five times, 340x450 mm each. To then screw these bottoms from below with self-tapping screws. By the way, about the fasteners.

Fasteners and accessories

We will need the following fasteners:

  • Confirmats 5x70 – 40 pieces.
  • Self-tapping screws 4x16 - half a kilo or so.
  • Self-tapping screws 4x30 – 15 pieces. We will use them to attach the fronts to the body of the drawers.

We immediately add full roll-out guides with a length of 450 mm and five furniture handles to the fittings.

Assembling drawers

Before making drawers, the parts must be processed accordingly, that is, the edges must be glued. This can be done using an iron heated to about three-quarters of the power and a dry cloth. We apply the edge, beauty side up, to the desired end of the part and heat it with an iron. Afterwards, we run a dry cloth along the hot edge several times to press the edges more tightly and cut off the excess with a blunt knife.

Blunt - so as not to damage the laminate. We sand the ribs and admire them.

The box assembly diagram is shown in the figure. We remember that we drill holes with a diameter of 8 mm in the plane for confirmations, and with a diameter of 5 mm in the end of the part. The markings for the guides are again indicated along the fastening line and are simply carried out along half the height of the part.

Assembly diagram drawer

The full roll-out guides are divided into two parts: the wide one is attached to the side of the cabinet, the narrow one is attached to the side of the drawer. How to separate them - it’s better to immediately ask the hardware seller, because everything is simple, but cannot be described in words. There are stoppers there, but they are not so easy to find if you don't know.

We attach the guides to the cabinet with a space of 3 mm from the front edge of the side panel, and to the drawers - flush with the front edge. The delta is made so that the facades fit tightly to the cabinet.

The facades are fastened from the inside with 4x30 self-tapping screws through the holes indicated in the diagram. A little trick for an even fit of the facades: First, you should drill holes in the facade for the handles. Next, we place the facade in place and screw it from the outside through these holes. We pull out the drawer, fasten the facade from the inside in the normal way and turn out the outer, “rough” fasteners. Then we drill holes for the handles through the front wall of the drawer and install the handle.

We call our wife and get a well-deserved kiss - we defeated these boxes!

If you are planning to make a box out of plywood with your own hands, decorative or household, best material than plywood, you can’t find it. Racks, boxes for vegetables, shelves for shoes or tools made of plywood can withstand heavy loads, but at the same time look quite aesthetically pleasing.

Plywood can be taken different thicknesses, depending on the purpose, it is easy to process, and its original qualities are preserved long time during operation.

Deserves special attention decorative boxes from plywood, carved boxes and caskets that are decorated carved patterns and drawings. The easiest way to make such a box is from plywood.

Choose the right material when starting work. Stroytekhmontazh LLC at faneramonolit.ru/katalog-fanery/fanera-hvojnaja/ offers its customers high-quality coniferous plywood that you can use in your work.

Making a box out of plywood with your own hands is not that difficult. Let's take a closer look at the process of making such a box from the selection of tools to decorative finishing products.

Making a box from plywood with your own hands

First, you need to decide on the purpose of the box. If this is a box for vegetables or other household needs, the walls and bottom must be fastened more thoroughly, using screws or small nails.

Decorative boxes, for example for storing documents on a desktop, are perfectly held together with regular glue"Titanium". It is only important to fix the drawer parts well after applying the glue in order to fit them to each other.

Prepare the tools necessary for the job in advance. You may need:

  • a corner for applying the correct markings to the material for further cutting;
  • A jigsaw is the only sawing material that allows you to avoid nicks and chips in the cut;
  • roulette;
  • screwdriver

We begin work by making five blanks. For a box, if you do not plan to make a book for it, you will need five parts: four walls and a bottom. On a sheet of material we make appropriate markings that follow the contours of the future box, and cut them out using a jigsaw.

Try to keep the edge lines of the workpieces even to make it easier to fit them together.

Walls are installed at the bottom, which are screwed using a screwdriver. For greater reliability and better fastening of the parts, you can lubricate the ends of the lower sides with wood glue, immediately removing the residue.

The last stage is attaching the fittings. Depending on what the plywood box is intended for, you can screw handles, wheels, and other accessories to it.

If you need the box to close, there should be six pieces of plywood. The sixth, the lid, should be the same size as the bottom. It is screwed onto the hinges on top of the box, and, if necessary, a lock is screwed on.

It is worth mentioning separately finishing box. Yes, plywood itself is quite an attractive material, but without proper processing it may soon lose its original appearance.

We process and decorate a plywood box

Let's start with the fact that small boxes for storing household items need to be thoroughly sanded so that paint or color can be easily applied to them later. The edges of the drawers should also be treated if you do not want to constantly touch them and get injured. However, if you made the cut using an electric jigsaw, there should not be any special irregularities.

The process of finishing the box is carried out in several stages.

  • If you glued the walls together rather than screwing them together, let the glue dry thoroughly for at least 24 hours.
  • If you want to use stain, you need to extend the drying time.
  • The paint can be applied in several layers, depending on your initial idea.

Using a stencil or copy paper, you can apply a design or writing on top of the paint. When the drawing is dry, it needs to be coated with varnish or wax to secure it.

Another finishing option, more interesting, but also more labor-intensive, is wood burning using a special apparatus. This, of course, requires some skill and experience.

If this is your first time holding a burning machine, we advise you to practice before decorating the box itself. Take an unnecessary piece of plywood and try to burn some design on it. It turns out? Then the pattern, drawing or inscription can be burned onto the product itself.

A box for storing various small items and products is considered an indispensable attribute in modern economy. Thanks to this design, everything is in its place without creating clutter. For example, vegetables and fruits should be stored in a ventilated structure where fresh air can easily enter.

Monolithic products without any holes are suitable for tools. Designs with additional doors and a folding mechanism are suitable for various small items.

We offer original handmade storage boxes. Here you will find out what materials and tools you will need to make these products.

What materials are used to build structures?

Most often, boxes are made of wood and other materials. For instruments, it is better to choose solid pine or maple. Alder or aspen is suitable for products. These tree species are distinguished by their durability and strength. They do not emit resinous secretions and do not dry out over time.

Plywood is suitable for making decorative items. You can place all sorts of little things here. To fix the parts, a special adhesive composition is used.

Master class on creating a box with your own hands

We offer step-by-step instructions on how to make a box at home. To do this you will need the following tools and materials:

  • tape measure;
  • a simple pencil;
  • board 25 mm thick;
  • wooden edges 15 mm thick;
  • thin plywood;
  • metal corners;
  • nails and screws;
  • hacksaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • metal hinges for opening the lid structure;
  • hammer.

First of all, you need to familiarize yourself with the diagrams and drawings of how to make a box. This will allow you to correctly compare the sizes finished product. You should not make too large structures, as they will take up a lot of free space.

When all the components are ready, you can proceed to making a storage system for vegetables and fruits. The process includes several stages:

On the surface of the boards we mark the size of the side parts of the product. Next we move on to the bottom of the box. We mark the size on the wooden edges. After this, using a hacksaw, we begin to cut out the blanks.

We fix the boards together using small nails. We attach the bottom parts using the same method.

The cover of the product consists of a plywood sheet. It is installed on special hinges that allow you to control the closing process.

The photo of the DIY box shows the entire work process.

Tool storage box

This type of design is considered best idea DIY box. This product will allow you to keep all your working tools in one place. Here you can make additional sections for storing screws, nails and nuts.

To do this you need to prepare:

  • thin board;
  • thick plywood;
  • hacksaw;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver;
  • tape measure;
  • drawing of the finished product;
  • metal corners.

On sheets of thick plywood we make markings for the drawer parts. After this, we drill holes for fastening the metal hinges. Next, we connect the side parts to each other.

Let's start making the bottom for the storage system. To do this, we attach a thin board to the sides of the box. To prevent it from collapsing under the weight of tools, it must be strengthened with thin boards. To do this, several wooden elements are stuffed on the bottom surface.

On the side parts of the plywood we draw markings for the handles. They will be cut inside the main body of the product. Here you will need an electric jigsaw. The cutting base is installed at the beginning of the marking.

In the process of cutting out parts, you should not make sudden movements. They can cause cracks to appear on the surface of the product.

Now let's start installing the partitions. To do this, cut out a small square from thin plywood. It is fixed with metal corners in the middle of the structure.

The diagram shows a detailed view of the tool box. The drawing shows the exact number of parts:

  • side parts – 4 pcs.;
  • bottom – 1 pc.;
  • septal wall;
  • handles – 2 pcs.

DIY photo of boxes

If you absolutely do not have enough space to store various home kitsch, or you just want to make functional furniture for your home yourself, then we have an excellent solution: a plywood box. This multifunctional and stylish item interior design can help you organize your space own apartment much more functional, while creating a unique atmosphere of comfort. It is also very important to note that there are a lot of options for making such boxes, and none of them will require serious financial, time or physical expenditure from you. We'll talk about how to make a box out of plywood with your own hands in the material presented.

Plywood: advantages and disadvantages of the material

Of course, first you need to understand why we choose plywood to make boxes, because they can be made from many other materials no less practical materials, For example:

  • metal;
  • cardboard;
  • wood;
  • plastics, etc.

We answer: plywood is the easiest to work with. Of course, it will not serve you as long as metal, however, you won’t need a welding tool to create a box. Cardboard, for example, will not provide the resistance to damage we need, and even more so, it does not have the same solid decorative qualities as plywood.

In addition, if you ask a similar question to craftsmen whose activities are related to the manufacture of furniture, they will probably assure you that plywood is the most pliable and rewarding material to work with, which has a lot of advantages, although, of course, it can also have disadvantages. In the table below we have covered this topic in more detail.

Table 1. Advantages of plywood.

ParameterDescription
Strength
One layer of plywood consists of several layers of wood laid on top of each other perpendicularly. This layout allows you to cover all the flaws of the canvas, giving it maximum strength.

It turns out that plywood is much more reliable than, for example, plastic or thin wood. Performance characteristics furniture made from of this material, allow you to use it again and again for at least 10-15 years, and with careful handling, even longer.

Low costProduction of this material in industrial scale is inexpensive for companies. In addition, there is practically no waste left from the raw materials used to create plywood, therefore, the final cost of purchased plywood is also affordable for any wallet.
Versatility of useThe required material can be used for the manufacture of almost any piece of furniture, since due to its structure, it:
  • easy to cut;
  • doesn't crumble.

    Contrary to expectations, plywood is very plastic, and therefore even beginners in the field of furniture making can work with sheets of material without fear of violating its integrity through careless actions.

  • A wide range ofIt would seem that plywood sheets differ only in thickness, which can range from 2 to 30 millimeters, however, in fact, in the composition of each layer you have different quantities layers of veneer. If you look at the leaf from the side, you can see them with the naked eye. The more layers, the stronger and thinner the plywood. Accordingly, you will choose specific sheets based on what goal you have now: to make a box, chair, table, etc.
    Performance characteristicsDespite the fact that plywood is a very strong and damage-resistant material, its weight indicators are very small. Therefore, it is easy to handle, as are the objects made from it.

    Plywood does not wear out for decades, since products made from it are very flexible and not so easy to break.

    Table 2. Disadvantages of plywood.

    ParameterDescription
    Sensitivity to air humidity levelsDespite the fact that plywood is resistant to water falling on its surface (largely because it is also treated with varnishes and special water-repellent compounds before use), it exhibits increased sensitivity to changes in the level of humidity in the air.

    So, it cannot be placed in too much damp place, as it will become damp and rot. But it also cannot be left in a room where batteries are continuously operating at full power, as it will crack.

    However, the use of sealants, varnish and resin obtained by polycondensation of phenols can slow down its wear even when used in unsuitable conditions.

    Sale in the form of layers with standard parametersIn stores, plywood is sold in the form of sheets standard size, the size of which is 1.525 * 1.525 millimeters. That is why, even if you want to make a box of the most modest size, you will have to purchase a huge sheet at once.

    Besides, minimum thickness plywood is 2 millimeters, there are no thinner sheets, you will also have to take this into account, and make objects of at least medium size from this material.

    Prices for sheet plywood

    Plywood sheets

    Interior items made of plywood

    Perhaps you have not paid attention to the fact that a significant part of the products present in your home are made of plywood. So, they often collect from it:

    • cabinets;
    • frame for upholstered furniture;
    • tables;
    • chairs;
    • even kitchen sets.

    As you can see, the material is suitable for making any furniture, therefore, a box from it can be assembled with almost any parameters. It will turn out quite practical device, which will add a certain comfort to life and functionality to the furnishings of the apartment.

    Plywood is a very flexible material, so you don’t have to worry about damaging the sheet with careless movements while processing it.

    As for how such boxes can be used, there are also a lot of ideas. By making a “box” out of plywood, you can:

    • fill the shelves of the closets and put things inside that were previously thrown there in a shapeless pile;
    • turn it over, attach the legs on casters and turn it into a coffee table;
    • use as a book stand;
    • stack several identical boxes on top of each other, making a multi-story organizer, etc.

    How to choose plywood for making a box

    Plywood is made from trees of various species, so the properties of each category of these plates may also differ from each other. That is why it is important to carefully look at the description of the material when purchasing.

    Thus, plywood made from linden boasts:

    • dense structure;
    • flexibility.

    Material made from pine will by its nature be durable and resistant to various mechanical damage.

    Birch plywood is famous for its smoothness and even surface. If you need to make a product of impeccable beauty to be displayed, then, as a rule, they take it.

    Most often, furniture is made of plywood marked “FK”

    Not only that when choosing a specific plywood, you have to pay attention to which tree became its “progenitor”, you also need to carefully study the abbreviations, which imply that additives were added to the layer of wood necessary to improve certain quality characteristics product.

    How to make a plywood box with your own hands at home

    Instruction No. 1 – making a storage box

    In such a multifunctional plywood box you can store things for almost any purpose. It will take you very little time to assemble it. It will be great if you have at least basic construction skills, however, even without this you will succeed better.

    Step 1 – Gather the necessary tools.

    To make a regular box you need:

    • roulette;
    • planks no more than 2.5 centimeters thick;
    • plywood sheet;
    • corners (it is better to use metal ones);
    • nails;
    • hacksaw;
    • hammer.
    • in some cases, additional screws and metal hinges will be needed.

    Step 2 – draw a drawing of the box on paper.

    In order for the box to turn out exactly the way you want, you must first make a drawing of it in real size on paper.

    If you want to make a box with individual parameters, go for it. However, we suggest that you use the drawing presented in this step in the image. However, there are a great many similar drawings on the Internet, and you can find one that suits you and then download it.

    So, on paper we need to depict:

    • bottom of the box;
    • two short walls;
    • two long walls.

    After the drawing is ready, we will need to transfer its components onto plywood.

    Step 3 - We cut the material.

    Take a hacksaw and cut out the design details outlined on the plywood. Work with the tool carefully, especially if the size of the box is small, since it is always possible to cut off excess from pliable plywood.

    Having removed the desired segment of the part with a jigsaw, you will have to cut a new one and waste plywood, which could be used again in the future.

    Please note: the drawing is transferred to plywood immediately with the grooves of the drawers, however, first you just need to cut out the rectangular parts, and only then cut out the grooves separately.

    Step 4 – Processing the parts.

    Now you need to clean the edges of the cuts using sandpaper, as they will definitely be uneven after cutting. If this is not done, it will be difficult to combine them with each other, in addition, the material will not look neat.

    Use sandpaper to sand down parts

    Step 5 – We connect the parts of our box.

    So, the sidewall parts need to be connected using the groove method. It is better to do this while using glue to give the product maximum strength.

    The bottom of the product is screwed to the walls with self-tapping screws, and thus secured. Make sure that the screws are not longer than the height of the bottom, otherwise this may damage the structure of the walls.

    Instruction No. 2 – making a mail collection box

    So, from plywood you can make a box not only for storing things inside the house, but also for collecting mail.

    So, to make such a box, we need to assemble:

    • moisture-resistant plywood (after all, the box will hang outside);
    • self-tapping screws;
    • loops to make a lid;
    • metal corners;
    • pen.

    As for the tools, you will need to prepare:

    • saw;
    • screwdriver;
    • sandpaper;
    • drill.

    Step No. 2 - make a drawing and transfer it to plywood.

    Using the drawing presented in the step, we draw out the parts in full size on paper, which we will then assemble to make a box.

    It is better to use whatman paper, a pencil, a ruler and other necessary drawing devices for these purposes; it will not be possible to make an accurate “picture” by hand.

    After the drawing is ready on paper, we transfer it to plywood in exactly the same form.

    Step No. 3 – Cut out the parts and drill holes.

    Now, using a jigsaw or a hacksaw, we need to cut out all the parts we need from the plywood.

    The centers of the mounting holes will be located:

    • at the central point of the end parts of the parts;
    • at a distance of 15 millimeters from the edges of the part.

    Step No. 4 – connect the parts together.

    Now, using the made blanks and fastening devices, you need to attach the parts to each other.

    Lastly, the hinged lid is attached to the body, and then the metal corners are screwed to the sides.

    A birdhouse made of plywood is an excellent opportunity to simultaneously take care of birds and practice carpentry. A homemade birdhouse can decorate your balcony. multi-storey building or garden plot. The work process is simple, you just need to follow the rules and recommendations. We'll tell you about them

    Step No. 5 – final steps.

    It is necessary to thoroughly wipe the box with sandpaper so that it becomes smooth, and then cover its entire surface with an antiseptic and varnish.

    Now it’s time to attach a handle to the door, which can be secured with a self-tapping screw.

    Please note: after hanging the box on the street, attach a canopy over it from metal profile or other material indifferent to moisture, so that the box, and the correspondence inside it, are protected from rain.

    Instruction No. 3 – making a tool storage box

    A plywood box is a device that every man can find. This simple plywood product helps move even the most awkward of tools from point A to point B to complete set. It’s so good that you can make it yourself. Let's see how to do this.

    Step #1 – Gathering tools and materials.

    So, to assemble this box you need to prepare:

    • durable plywood that can withstand the weight of construction equipment (it is better to take a sheet 1.5 centimeters thick for the bottom, and a sheet 10 millimeters thick for the walls);
    • nails;
    • electric jigsaw;
    • sandpaper;
    • antiseptic;
    • whatman;
    • round block or stalk;
    • pencil;
    • ruler;
    • self-tapping screws

    Having collected everything you need, we get to work.

    Step No. 2 - transfer the drawing to paper and then to plywood.

    So, by analogy with the instructions presented above, using the example given in this step, or found on the Internet yourself, draw on paper the details of the future box in full size.

    Then the drawn drawing will need to be transferred to plywood, while remembering that:

    • the bottom is drawn on a sheet whose thickness is one and a half centimeters;
    • the remaining parts can be made from thinner plywood of 10 millimeters.

    Step No. 3 – cut out and sand the parts.

    The transferred parts must be turned into blanks. For this:

    • we cut them out of plywood;
    • We cut off the “ears” from the side blanks to give them a trapezoid shape.

    Then each segment will need to be thoroughly sanded with sandpaper to make the future tool box even.

    Step No. 4 – Assembling parts.

    Now we need to connect the 4 walls of the product together. We place the narrow cut pieces opposite each other and connect them with long sidewalls.

    The walls need to be attached to each other with nails, just make sure that the nails enter the wood correctly and do not come out with sharp tips on the other side.

    Then use self-tapping screws to “plant” the bottom against the walls. You can also use nails, but in this case self-tapping screws seem to us to be a more convenient fastener.

    Step No. 5 – install the handle.

    The handle is made to the size of the box from a block or handle, which is usually mounted on a rake. Simply saw off the part to the required size and secure it to the outer sides of the box body with self-tapping screws or nails.

    Instruction No. 4 - making a drawer from plywood

    A plywood drawer can be useful for those who independently assemble entire cabinets for their home. Let's see how to make it.

    Step No. 1 – collecting materials.

    So, to assemble such a box, you will need following materials and tools:

    • drill;
    • jigsaw;
    • wood stapler;
    • plywood;
    • wooden bars;
    • roller mechanism;
    • finishing and finishing nails;
    • loops;
    • glue gun

    Glue gun

    Step No. 2 - create a drawing and transfer it to plywood.

    So, to begin with, according to the diagram presented above in the instructions:

    • transfer the drawing from the picture to the plywood;
    • We cut out all the necessary parts using an electric jigsaw.

    The finished workpieces should be processed immediately using sandpaper.

    Step No. 3 - draw the lines of the grooves.

    Already on the prepared parts it is necessary to draw the lines of the grooves so that, as in the first instructions, we can simply insert them into each other. However, if you are too lazy to do this, then you can leave the parts as they are, and simply attach the walls to the joints with screws or nails.

    Step No. 4 – putting the parts together.

    Now you need to attach the walls, having previously glued their end parts or grooves together, and then:

    • press tightly if you do not use metal fasteners;
    • attach with self-tapping screws if there are no grooves.

    In those places where the fittings will be attached, we make holes using a drill.

    Step No. 5 – attach the guides and handle.

    So, now we need to secure the fittings at the bottom of the box at its ends. Place the roller metal strips sequentially, carefully securing them to the plywood.

    Once everything is ready, attach a handle to the front wall of the box by which you will pull it. If you don't want to make a handle, you can just cut a notch in the front so you can grab it and pull it out of where it is.

    Step No. 6 – coat the product with varnish.

    The finished product must be varnished to extend its life. It is also better to first soak the plywood with antiseptics, let it dry, and then apply varnish to the box, coating it inside and out.

    Furniture stores have big choice stools. In the manufacture of stools can be used different materials, such as plastic, metal, wood or . The latter is considered one of the most accessible, and can become original decoration for any design solution.

    Let's sum it up

    As you can see, there are many various designs plywood boxes. Not all of them are presented in this material, however, you can find the drawing you need or get an idea on the Internet. However, many of you are able to make a drawing yourself, simply using the materials presented in the article you are reading now as a guide, while determining your own dimensions for the products.

    The box can be assembled without drawings, by eye, however, such aerobatics is a sign of the highest skill in the field of furniture assembly. If you can do it, then go for it, and everything will definitely turn out the way it was intended.

    Video - DIY plywood mini boxes

    It’s quite easy to make a plywood box with your own hands if you have one necessary tool. This craft can be very useful at home for different areas activities. The manufacturing procedure is very simple, and the main design features will be presented below. Work brings not only benefits, but also relaxation and distraction from daily activities.

    Multifunctionality of a plywood box

    A variety of products are sold in hardware stores; they can be used to store vegetables, transport tools and other things. Of course, you can buy them, but it’s much nicer to do the work yourself. The main thing is to initially decide on the type and design of such a container.

    Plywood is often used as a material because it is aesthetically pleasing, durable and easy to process. A plywood structure can withstand the heaviest loads, and if you need to carry or store really heavy things, you can use a thicker sheet of plywood. Products made from such raw materials can be used in various fields.

    Tools and materials you will need

    If all the tools and materials are prepared, then even an inexperienced person can make a plywood box with his own hands. To get started, you need to prepare the following tools:

    • Drill.
    • Screwdriver.
    • Jigsaw.
    • Furniture stapler.
    • Roulette.

    Having prepared the tools, you still need to stock up on materials. A sheet of plywood can be of different thicknesses, it all depends on the purpose of using the product. It is worth noting that the bottom should be thicker than the walls and lid. Manufacturing materials include:

    • Plywood that will serve as the bottom and walls.
    • Wooden blocks (as decoration).
    • Nails.
    • Wood glue.
    • Wheels if the box moves.
    • Putty.

    In addition to the material and tools, you will need to prepare a drawing of the plywood box as a whole and a diagram of each part separately. If you follow the dimensions according to the drawings, the design will turn out correct form and is suitable for any need.

    Types of products

    Today, a plywood box can be made in different shapes, types and for different purposes.

    The main types include:

    • Mailbox.
    • Product for collecting children's toys.
    • Design for sending fragile and valuable parcels.
    • Toolbox.
    • For storing and transporting vegetables, fruits and other products.

    In addition to the main types, you can make gift packaging from raw materials, as well as niches as a cabinet and other things.

    Required thickness

    The thickness of the material should be selected depending on the goals pursued. For example, for storage children's toys It will be enough to use a material thickness of 4 to 6 mm. Similar parameters are suitable for storing food. If the product will be placed on the street, then the thickness should be from 8 mm. For heavy items or tools, it is also better to use thick material.

    Plywood - perfect solution for storing and transporting various things. Such products retain their naturalness and are not inferior to massive boards. Plywood is a safe material for human body, unlike plastic, from which many products sold in stores are made.

    Step by step regular box

    Before making a box from plywood, you should decide on the requirements for it and the further purpose of use. For this:

    • A drawing is drawn on a piece of paper.
    • Measurements and calculations are carried out.
    • All dimensions are transferred to the prepared tree.
    • A pattern is made on the surface of the material.
    • Parts of the structure are cut out using a jigsaw.
    • The edges of the parts need to be smoothed using sandpaper or a file.
    • If the connections are grooved, then lines are drawn on the inner walls of the parts.
    • Next, the box is assembled into a single structure. To ensure reliability, all elements are glued with glue, and then knocked together with nails or fastened with self-tapping screws.
    • For carrying, handles are used that need to be secured, or holes for the hands are cut out.
    • You can install partitions inside, dividing the area into cells.

    If you have experience working with wood and tools, then you can get the job done quickly and without much difficulty. If the product requires a lid, then you need to install strips inside the box and cut out a lid from the sheets on which the handle is mounted. Additionally, hinges can be installed.

    Step-by-step instructions for making a tool box

    A tool box made of plywood can be made in a wide variety of shapes. Below is step by step creation an ordinary simple box, medium in size and with handles for easy carrying:

    • A drawing of the product is made and the necessary raw materials are prepared.
    • The drawing of all elements is transferred to sheets of plywood using a pencil and ruler.
    • Elements are cut out of the sheets; there should be 5 of them, since in this case there is no lid.
    • The corners of the elements are sanded with sandpaper, and then everything is connected. First, you need to apply wood glue to the elements and fasten them with nails or screws.
    • Next, handles are attached to the product. They can be made from wooden blocks that are simply screwed on both sides.
    • If you need to store various small items or individual species instrument, then walls are installed in the middle that will divide the internal area.

    As you can see, making a simple plywood box with your own hands for a tool is quite simple. Of course, if it is structurally more functional, then the creation process will become a little more complicated.

    Step-by-step instructions for making a mailbox

    From sheets of plywood 4-5 mm thick you can make a mailbox that will decorate any home. The work is not difficult and it does not require much time. For a detailed review of manufacturing, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with step by step instructions creation, which is presented below. This is how you can make a mailbox out of plywood with your own hands:

    • The base of the product is made from wooden blocks. The length of the slats should be 30 cm, and the width of one slat should be 2 cm. In this case, plywood will be used for cladding. It is recommended to use moisture-resistant material. The product will require two sheets of each type: 30 x 25 cm for the front and back parts, 30 x 6 cm for the sides and 25 x 6 cm for the top and bottom.
    • After cutting out all the parts, the wood needs to be processed protective equipment, which will protect the material from moisture and insects.
    • Next, 4 bars are connected with self-tapping screws, which act as a frame.
    • Now a long hole is cut into the sheet of plywood that will be used for the top for letters and newspapers.
    • The side walls, bottom and top, as well as the back are screwed to the frame. The front wall will serve as a door with a lock for collecting correspondence. Therefore, small loops are attached to the frame. Next, the front part of the plywood is put on the hinges, and one loop for the lock is also installed on it. The second loop is mounted on the side of the plywood. This way you can install a padlock.
    • A small metal canopy should be installed at the top to protect mail. This will prevent sediment from penetrating into the box.

    At this point, the process of creating a container for letters and newspapers is completed, and it can be installed on the fence or in another place.

    Finishing work

    The finished plywood box should be able to be finished. You can coat it with varnish, and if there are cracks, they are first sealed with putty. As decoration, you can glue linings to the product. They can be cut from plywood sheets with a jigsaw, thanks to which general form will not be lost.

    For better preservation of the material, it is necessary to treat the internal walls with varnish. If the box is part of the decor in the room, then external sides can be painted a specific color using regular paint. If putty is used, then before applying varnish or paint, the surface must be sanded with sandpaper, and the product itself must be smooth to the touch, without roughness.

    Conclusion

    It’s easy to make a functional one yourself, and if you own good tool and have at least basic skills in working with wood, you can earn good money by creating various products from plywood. All wooden structures, which are made by hand, are much more expensive than machine production. They are in demand among many people, as they are exclusive and are made in a single copy. Therefore, an ordinary passion and hobby can develop into a small business.
