Heated floor sensor: purpose, installation and connection. Heated floor temperature sensor: installation features, connection options and do-it-yourself testing Air temperature sensor heated floor

Warm floor - functional modern technology heating systems used in a house, apartment, cottage, children's and medical institutions, production premises. Its irreplaceable component is a thermostat.

The heated floor sensor records and transmits the floor temperature to the thermostat, which, reacting to the information received, controls the entire heating system. Timely switching on and off of the heated floor ensures the creation of a comfortable atmosphere in a certain space.

Equipment Features

Hot water as a heat source is used when installing a heated water floor. To adjust the comfort room temperature a warm water floor sensor is used, mounted in the screed.

There are several types of thermostat sensors. Thermostats with two sensors are considered more reliable. This provides control over the external room temperature and internal state systems. The presence of these two devices makes heated floors more economical and safer.

An additional key serves as a child safety lock. Some models of thermostats with sensors are equipped with sound and light alarms that inform owners about problems and violations of the system’s operating mode.

For main or additional system heating of any room is used far infrared radiation film heated floor. An infrared sensor for underfloor heating measures the temperature in the place where the thermostat is installed.

Due to the fact that the floor heating sensor is mounted directly into the floor structure, the influence external factors its errors are minimal.

A heated floor thermostat with a temperature sensor, together with a heating cable, is considered the most important element heating systems.

Unique sensor-limiters prevent the floor surface from cooling to a certain temperature. They are most often installed in insulating pipe in a cable heating system.

The sensors included with thermostats for laminate tiles are simple and programmable. For getting maximum savings operating costs, it is better to buy a programmable floor heating sensor. An inexpensive, reliable mechanical device is used for simple manual temperature adjustment.

The heating floor temperature sensor is connected to a wall where there is no draft or direct contact sun rays. This connection of the heated floor sensor prevents distortion of temperature indicators and ensures the creation of the desired temperature.

The Devi heated floor sensor, thanks to the presence of fast heating functions and smooth adjustment of the system temperature, allows for the most user-friendly operating mode. While consuming a small amount of electricity, heated floors significantly transform the room into a warmer, more comfortable one.

Buy a heated floor temperature sensor from a well-known brand (Devi, Teplolux, Energy, Legrand). Despite the fact that they are more expensive than the cheapest options (from 1,500 rubles and above), their use ensures accurate operation of the system (and therefore saves energy on heating the room).

Nuances of selection and application

Regarding the key rules for installing the sensor:

  1. To ensure adequate temperature data, the floor heating sensor is installed at a distance of at least 50 cm from the nearest wall.
  2. The total length of the wire from the sensor’s thermal head to the thermostat should not exceed 2 m.

To ensure accurate operation of the sensor (and therefore extend the life of the heating system and avoid excess energy consumption), these nuances must be taken into account.

Even a minimal error in measurements will cost you money, which you will have to spend on maintaining an extra degree of temperature.

By choosing the right temperature sensor for a warm water floor (electric, infrared - any), you will enjoy it for a long time maximum comfort in the house.

We'll tell you how to check the heated floor sensor:

  1. Typically, the resistance of the heated floor sensor is in the range of 5-30 kOhm. You can determine more precise parameters of this value by looking at the operating instructions for a particular device.
  2. On the tester in resistance measurement mode, the corresponding maximum value is set. Measurements that differ greatly from the specifications indicate a faulty sensor that needs to be replaced.
  3. To establish the functionality of the sensor, its resistance is measured and compared with the specified parameter in the passport. When it is plugged into the network, a green light on a working device lights up, the cable begins to heat up, and the resistance should decrease.

If everything is in order, the power is turned off and further work on the floor screed can be carried out.

As for the cost of the device, it starts around 1000-1200 rubles. For this amount you can purchase a regular sensor that works in the desired temperature limit(from 0º to +30º).

Device installation

Regardless of the manufacturer, standard wiring diagram connecting a heated floor sensor.

The following elements of the system will “participate” in this:

  • A three-core supply cable, in which the phase is a core of any color different from the rest; working zero – blue, white-blue core; protective (grounding) zero – yellow-green conductor.
  • Heating cable for a heating system, made of two wires with a protective screen.
  • Temperature sensor located in a corrugated pipe directed to the location of the heated floor, with black and white cores.

It is best to buy a temperature sensor for a heated floor complete with a heating system. This will simplify the task - you won’t need to search suitable option. Otherwise, the temperature sensor for the heated floor must be selected independently.

Installing a heated floor sensor does not require any special skills or special equipment, and if desired, you can handle the task yourself.

However, due to the fact that this work will not tolerate errors (the slightest inaccuracy can lead to an error in measurements, which means incorrect operation of the system), it is still better to have specialists do this, along with laying the heated floor itself.

Under parquet, laminate, other types of soft floor coverings, its installation is done “dry” - the plastic cylinder is attached directly to the heating system. The connection of the heated floor temperature sensor under the tiles is carried out in a corrugated tube laid in a pre-made channel in the floor.

To prevent concrete from getting into the corrugated tube, a plug is placed on one side using tile adhesive. If necessary, the temperature sensor can be easily removed from the corrugated pipe without lifting the entire floor covering.

To create comfort and coziness both in private houses and apartments, electric floor heating is used. In order for the heated floor system to operate automatically and also be economical, it is necessary to install and connect additional reliable electronic equipment that maintains the temperature in a given mode. This equipment is a temperature controller and a temperature sensor. Before installing them, it is recommended to understand the principle of operation, as well as master the basic connection and installation techniques. In this article we will describe in detail how to install a heated floor temperature sensor, and also provide a diagram of its connection to the network.

Design and purpose of a temperature sensor

So, the temperature sensor for a heated floor system is a thermistor protected by a glass bulb, and also has a copper conductor about 3 meters long for connection to the thermostat. Besides glass flask for tiled floors, the temperature sensor itself is also protected by a gel shell. The conductor is insulated with high-quality PVC (polyvinyl chloride) to protect against external influence and damage. The length of the conductor can be increased, and naturally, reduced, up to 50 meters, the main thing is that there is an undamaged sensor at the end of the conductor.

To easily replace it in the future, it is recommended to place this structure in a metal-plastic tube, even if the manufacturer included a plastic corrugation with a diameter of 16 mm. Metal-plastic pipe It has a smoother inner surface, so it is much easier to remove and install, as well as connect a new temperature sensor in case of failure. These types of temperature sensors are installed in hard floor coverings (under tiles or porcelain stoneware).

The principle of operation of the temperature sensor is very simple; when the temperature changes, its resistance changes, thereby giving a signal to the thermostat to turn on or off the heated floor system from 220 V, the most common network in everyday life.

Installation sequence

Let's move on directly to the installation of the heated floor and temperature sensor. First you need to determine the location of the thermostat, which will be located outside. It is most often located at a height of about 1 meter from the floor. Its mounting is similar to a regular socket.

Then you need to make grooves or grooves for laying two plastic pipes. One for the power wire leading to the heating element, the other for the electrical wiring of the sensor. The tube for the temperature sensor will be located on the floor. Such a gasket will make it possible to carry out renovation work, at least by replacing control elements. It is not possible to completely replace the heating element if it is installed in a screed. It is important that when laying a pipe or cable corrugation there are as few bends and turns as possible. This will simplify the replacement of a failed temperature sensor in the future.

The video below explains helpful advice for installing a heated floor sensor in a corrugation:

The next step is thermal insulation, it is performed for different types heating elements individually, for example, for a heating cable it is used as a damper tape or other insulation, the thickness of which is at least 1.5–2 cm. After this, the heating element is installed and fastened with the wires connected to the thermostat box.

Installing and connecting a heated floor temperature sensor has its own subtleties. In order to prevent solution from getting inside the tube where the sensor is located, its end on the floor is securely sealed with electrical tape or tape. It is not recommended to connect the entire system through an outlet; it is better to supply power from and through the (starter).

The temperature sensor should be installed at a distance of 0.5 to 1 meter from the wall on which the thermostat is installed, and also exactly in the middle between two adjacent turns of the heating cable. After installation, it is recommended to secure the temperature sensor with mounting tape or foil tape.

If produced, the temperature sensor must be installed under the heater sheet, as shown in the photo below. Please note that thermal insulation must be laid under the temperature sensor, otherwise the heating system will not be effective.

Important point! The location of the temperature sensor should be selected so that it is away from other heating sources. Otherwise, errors will occur and the warm floor will not work as it should.

The connection diagram for the heated floor temperature sensor is as follows:

Before you make the screed, you need the temperature sensor itself. As a rule, the resistance of both elements is measured. The system is considered operational if the resistance differs by no more than 10% from the passport data.

In order to assembled circuit was as safe as possible, it is recommended to install in rooms where electric floor heating is carried out, which in the event of a breakdown will disconnect the circuit from the voltage, thereby protecting a person from falling under electrical potential. In damp areas this can be deadly.

Selecting a thermostat

I would also like to touch upon the thermostat itself, which plays a very important key role in this heating system. Exist the following types temperature controllers for heated floors:

  • Electromechanical. The clarity of such adjustment is approximate, so achieving a specific set temperature is quite problematic. The main advantage of such a device is its low price.
  • Electronic. Installation a given value is performed using touch buttons and has fairly clear settings and the ability to set a limit temperatures down to one degree.
  • Programmable electronic. By installing such an element, you can not only adjust temperature regime indoors, but also turn on the heating according to a schedule, or only if there is a person in the room.

By the way, some thermostats already have a built-in sensor, which makes it possible to control not only the temperature of the floor, but also the air in the room as a whole.

As a result, I would like to remind you about the rules for working with electrical equipment; all connection work is carried out with the power turned off. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that no one, except the person performing this work, accidentally supplies voltage dangerous to human health and life. This is where our technology for installing a heated floor temperature sensor with your own hands ends. We hope the information provided was useful to you!

Thermal elements of a warm floor do not come into contact with the air they heat, so the temperature in the room is controlled external device– thermostat. The amount of electricity consumption depends on its functionality. Agree, for an informed purchase it is worth understanding the characteristics and capabilities of the device.

We will tell you how to buy the most suitable thermostat for your underfloor heating. The article we have presented describes its varieties, which differ in the type of control, the type of temperature-fixing device and the method of installation. Tips to make your choice easier optimal model.

The thermostat is designed to control the operation of the underfloor heating system (WHS). It consists of a control device and one or more sensors. Information from them is taken into account when turning heat mats on and off.

Thanks to the operation of the device, an even temperature is maintained in the rooms and energy consumption is minimized.

Rhythm of inclusion heating mats underfloor heating allows you to save half of the electricity, which pays for the cost of the thermostat in a few months

Thermostats are easy to use and even teenagers can use them. In this case, the operating mode of the STP can be changed several times a day without fear of breakdown or premature failure of the equipment.

Minimum temperature can be configured separately for each room. In addition, some models allow programming of the device’s operating mode during the day.

Types of devices by type of control

The operation of the STP is regulated special device, which is usually hung on the wall. It has the dimensions of a standard rocker switch and can be equipped with a mechanical, electronic or programmable interface.

Mechanical without electronics

A mechanical thermostat does not include electronic components in its design. Electric wires they go to the STP directly through the device, which adds problems during its installation.

Mechanically, the thermostat usually has a limit switch. It allows you to quickly turn on/off the device without having to change temperature settings

The function of a temperature sensor in a mechanical regulator is usually performed by a bimetallic plate, which, when cold, closes the contacts of the heating mats. As the temperature in the room increases, it bends and disconnects the electrical circuit, as a result, heat generation stops.

The regulation interface is represented by a wheel, by rotating which you can adjust the temperature in the room.

This device design has its advantages:

  1. Low price.
  2. Easy to use.
  3. Ability to work at low temperatures.
  4. Reliability.
  5. Independence from voltage surges.
  6. Long service life.
  7. Automatic switching on after a power outage.

The simplicity of a mechanical thermostat also causes its disadvantages, which can be critical:

  1. Minimal functionality.
  2. Lack of remote control capability.
  3. Large error.
  4. The presence of clicks when bending the bimetallic plate.

Despite their simplicity, mechanical thermostats have a strong hold on the consumer market due to their high reliability, simplicity and interchangeability.

With electronic mechanism

The appearance of electronic thermostats may not differ from mechanical devices. The main difference lies in the internal filling of the device.

Mobile thermostat units are usually battery-powered, so their displays are not backlit. Setting up such devices in a dark room is difficult.

Electronic floor heating controllers consist of the following components:

  1. Frame.
  2. Control microcircuit.
  3. Built-in or external temperature sensor.
  4. Electronic key for turning on and off the power supply to heating mats.

Temperature adjustment in electronic thermostats can be done using a touch display, buttons, an adjustment wheel, or a combination of these methods.

Some models support multi-zone temperature control, in which several isolated heated floor zones with their own sensors are independently connected to the control microcircuit.

The advantages of electronic devices include:

  1. Possibility of installing a remote temperature sensor in any location in the room.
  2. Availability of a display showing the current and set temperature.
  3. Possibility of multi-zone heating control.
  4. Temperature sensor accuracy up to fractions of a degree.
  5. Indication in case of error or breakdown.
  6. Possibility of completing with an external remote control unit.

The disadvantages of an electronic thermostat are mainly due to the presence of a microcircuit.

Thermostat models are not tied to specific manufacturers. During installation, the devices can be combined with heating mats and sensors from various companies

The disadvantages include the following characteristics:

  1. Dependence of the stability of the control microcircuit on voltage drops.
  2. Failures in settings during a short-term power outage.
  3. Higher price than mechanical devices.

Mechanical thermostats are only 15-25% cheaper than their counterparts electronic analogues, therefore, in the absence of voltage drops in the network, the choice between these two types of devices is determined mainly by their appearance.

Great looking luminous displays are often the main motivating factor for purchasing. specific model thermostat.

Programmable electronic devices

The main difference between programmable thermostats and conventional electronic devices is the expanded functionality of the control microcircuit. This type of device allows you to set different temperatures in the rooms depending on the time of day.

As a result, users benefit greatly from energy savings by reducing the heating of the air in an empty home.

The cost of a programmable thermostat directly depends on the quality of the display and the number of parameters that the device operates in its operation.

Programmable thermostats may also have a function remote control from a smartphone via Wi-Fi.

The disadvantages of such devices include the high cost and difficulty of setting up in the absence of skills in handling the equipment. Otherwise, the pros and cons of programmable thermostats are the same as conventional electronic ones.

With remote control unit

In electronic and programmable thermostats, internal components can be divided into two blocks: main and mobile. Fits the main box electrical cables and wired temperature sensors are connected. It can be located in any remote location of the room, which facilitates installation work.

Some manufacturers of programmable thermostats produce their own applications for smartphones, by installing which you can configure the equipment from your gadget

A battery-powered mobile unit is used as a control panel. It can lie on a table or hang on the wall. Additionally, the consoles can be equipped with external temperature sensors that measure the ambient air temperature. Such devices are convenient because they allow you to hide the adjustment mechanism from small children.

Types of temperature sensors for underfloor heating systems

The operating mode of STP heating elements directly depends on the correct temperature measurement by temperature sensors. They can be built into the body of the control box or placed remotely.

Thermal sensors come in four types:

  1. To determine air temperature.
  2. Infrared, measuring the heating of the floor surface from a distance.
  3. To determine the temperature of the floor surface by contact method.
  4. Combined.

The air heating sensor is usually built into the thermostat or its mobile unit. It is used when underfloor heating is the main heating system. The main requirement for its location is the presence around the device natural circulation air.

The tips of temperature sensors should be made of materials that conduct heat well, then the speed of the thermostat’s response to excess heat will be higher

Infrared floor temperature meters can be built into the thermostat housing or placed as a separate unit. The main requirement for their installation is that there are no obstacles between the sensor and the floor. The distance between the device and the surface to be analyzed must be at least 30 cm.

Contact-type temperature sensors look like a long wire with a thickening at the end. On the one hand, they are connected to the thermostat unit, and on the other, they are placed in a special long corrugated pipe under the floor. This installation feature makes it easy to replace a broken sensor with a new one.

The advantage of underground placement is the possibility of multi-zone control of floor temperature within one room. Typically, such sensors are installed as part of an additional heating system.

Several sensors can be connected to the thermostat, but this scheme is used mainly within the framework of an integral set of equipment.

Rules for installing a thermostat

Electrical cables and wiring from temperature sensors must be connected to the thermostat hung on the wall. To do this, appropriate grooves are made in the slab - grooves. In them, wires are laid to the electrical panel and to the floor.

The floor temperature sensor must be as far from each other as possible from adjacent heating elements, otherwise when they are turned on, it will immediately trigger and disconnect the electrical circuit

If the equipment is installed in a room with high-quality interior decoration, then you can use overhead devices and run cables over the walls in boxes.

  1. It is better to place the adjusting device at a distance of 40-170 cm from the floor, unless otherwise provided in the instructions. If you have a mobile control panel, the main box can be installed in any convenient place.
  2. The main functions of the floor temperature sensor are to prevent overheating of the floor covering and foot comfort, but not to control the temperature of the air in the room.
  3. In damp rooms It is allowed to use thermostats with appropriate protection against water ingress.
  4. When installing the device into a wall, use installation box from non-flammable materials.
  5. Wires from the regulator to underfloor heating heaters with a power of more than 1 kW must be routed in hollow heat-resistant tubes.
  6. The floor temperature sensor must be located between heating elements and at least 50 cm from the walls.
  7. When turning on the device for the first time, it is necessary to take into account the minimum operating temperature specified in the instructions.
  8. Wire connections to the thermostat terminals must be made exclusively according to the diagram specified in the manual.
  9. Installation of the thermostat begins only after the heating elements are finally laid on the floor in order to correctly calculate the length of the wires.
  10. When filling the floor with solution, it is necessary to well insulate the end of the tube with the temperature sensor.
  11. Before pouring the solution onto the floor, it is necessary to check the functionality of all elements of the system.
  12. Heating mats must be grounded, and an RCD is installed in front of the thermostat.

Compliance with these rules will protect residents from electric shock, the house from fire, and equipment from premature failure.

When purchasing a thermostat, you need to know certain nuances in order to pay only for required functions and ensure the longevity of the operation and the device itself.

When choosing a thermostat, you should pay attention to the quality of the plastic case. If the manufacturer saves on this, then it is worth thinking about the reliability of internal components

These selection features include the following rules:

  1. For heating small rooms, an inexpensive mechanical or electronic thermostat with internal air temperature sensor.
  2. It makes sense to buy a programmable thermostat if you need multi-zone temperature control, as well as to save energy when there are no residents at home during the daytime.
  3. The thermostat must match maximum power heating elements with a reserve of 25-30% in case of operation at reduced voltage.
  4. For houses with wooden interior decoration, only overhead thermostat boxes are suitable.

Also, when choosing a device, it is necessary to take into account its design.

Existing the lineup allows you to buy not only reliable equipment, but also a thermostat that will fit perfectly into the interior of the room.

Video #3. Installation of a temperature sensor in the floor:

Analysis of various thermostats allows us to say that their maximum functionality is not always justified from both a financial and operational point of view. Therefore, this equipment must be selected for each STP separately.

How did you choose, attach and connect the thermostat for the underfloor heating system? Share what became the decisive landmark for you? Please leave comments in the block below, ask questions, publish useful recommendations and photos related to the topic of the article.

Warmth in the house is useful, pleasant, and comfortable. There are several options for heating systems, one of them is heated floors.

They can be either the main system, which provides the required temperature conditions, or an auxiliary one.

Regardless of this, it is necessary to adjust the heating temperature, otherwise the room will either overheat or not be warm enough.

The operating mode of the “warm floor” system is regulated by a thermostat (thermostat) and a temperature sensor (or two) connected to it. They may not exist at all, but this mode is undesirable, since there is a risk of overheating of the floor covering. First of all, this applies to laminate, parquet, and linoleum.

The sensor works by being located next to the heating elements of the heated floor. The measurement error is small and allows you to accurately maintain the heating temperature without negatively affecting the finish coating.

Sensors for measuring the heating level for the “warm floor” system are divided according to the installation location:

  • Floor mounting The thermoelement is installed together with the heating cable.
  • External installation. Designed to measure indoor air temperature. They can be built into the thermostat, or connected to it separately.

Sensors intended for installation under floor coverings are classified depending on the type of floor covering:

  • For soft surfaces. This is laminate, parquet, linoleum. The sensor is a plastic cylinder with a wire.
  • For hard surfaces. This - ceramic tile, artificial and a natural stone. In this case, the features of laying such a coating are taken into account (most often with glue or in concrete screed), and the fact that the temperature measuring device must be located in the screed. So he's a little bigger size and has a protective shell that protects against the mechanical and chemical effects of the mixtures used when pouring the solution.

The thermostats themselves differ in the number of connected temperature sensors - only for controlling floor heating or can be additionally equipped with a device for measuring air temperature. The second option is preferable in cases where the “warm floor” system is the main heating system. This will allow you to control the temperature in the room and, at the same time, prevent the floor covering from overheating.

There is an option called a limit sensor, which ensures that the temperature does not fall below a set value.

Some types may have a system that monitors the serviceability of all connected devices and alerts if a problem occurs, if the sensor that controls the heating is faulty.

Most often, thermostats are divided according to their operating principle:

  • Mechanical. The simplest, the cheapest. Adjustment is carried out by turning the wheel. No way to install exact value desired temperature. This type designed to work with one sensor, usually installed in the floor.
  • Electronic. Control is carried out using mechanical or touch buttons. The desired temperature is shown on a small display. It may be possible to control air and floor heating.
  • Programmable. The most functional option, with which you can program the heating operating mode for a day or a week in advance. Such thermostats allow you to set the switching time and heating amount.

You can significantly reduce electricity costs if you turn off the heating at times when no one is home (for example, in work time), and include people when they arrive. You just need to remember that the floor needs some time to warm up, so you need to turn on the heating in advance.

For water systems, thermostats are also divided into:

  • Mechanical. Each circuit is controlled manually.
  • Electronic. More convenient and visual control of heated floors.

Design

The design of this floor-mounted device is simple. At the end of the wire there is a thermoelement, which should be placed where the heating cables are laid so that it is located between the turns of the cable and at an equal distance from them. In this case, the readings will be most accurate.

An external sensor that records the air temperature in the room is often located in the thermostat. To ensure the accuracy of the displayed values, its location should be protected from direct sunlight, heating by other heating devices, and drafts.

Connection to the thermostat is made using special terminals.

When the temperature rises or falls, the heating is turned off or, conversely, turned on if we are talking about the electric version. In the case of a water heated floor, using servo drives, the supply of coolant to the circuit is regulated, due to which the temperature returns to the desired value.

The main purpose is to regulate heating and control its timely switching on and off.

Pros and cons of sensors for heated floors

The main advantages of the temperature sensor and control device are the ability to control the floor temperature and protect against possible overheating of the coating, reducing electricity costs.

Application and operation

Temperature sensors in combination with a control device are used in almost any underfloor heating system. With their help, a temperature that is comfortable for humans and safe for the finishing coating is maintained.

Operation consists of correct installation, which is not the subject of this discussion. Let us briefly say that it is advisable to always install them in a corrugated tube.

In the case of installation in a concrete screed, this required condition, and when installed under soft flooring, this can be a far-sighted option.

Consider a situation where a sensor fails and needs to be replaced. In the case of its location in a screed and in a corrugated tube, it will be enough to pull out the faulty one and place a new one in its place.

It’s another matter if the heating system is installed, for example, under a laminate. In this case, the sensor can be placed without additional protection, but in case of replacement, part of the floor in the place where it is located will have to be dismantled.

If you cut a groove in advance and place a corrugated tube with a sensor there, then the repair will come down to pulling out the faulty one and pushing a new one into the tube.

Often these devices have a soft, thin wire, which cannot be used to place it in a corrugated tube laid on the floor. A fishing line designed for garden trimmers can help with this. It has a diameter of 3 mm and the necessary rigidity to push through the sensor attached to it. She will help you get it back.

Advice. Many sensors are cylindrical in shape with a noticeable step where the cable exits. This step may catch on the protrusions of the corrugated tube when attempting to remove the sensor. If you wrap this edge with electrical tape, leveling the protrusion, it will become much easier to get it out.

Precautionary measures

When working with any electrical equipment Installation work must be carried out carefully, connections must be made reliably, wiring must be designed for the power consumed by the heated floor. For safety, it is advisable to connect the power circuit to an individual RCD.

It should be remembered that thermostats do not tolerate high humidity and water ingress, therefore, when installing a heated floor in a bathroom, the control unit should be installed outside this room.

The serviceability of all parts must be checked before installation. Filling the screed and laying the finishing coating must be carried out carefully. If there is no mechanical damage, heating cable will last a long time.

Thermo Industri AB

Europe's largest Swedish manufacturer of heating equipment, especially specializing in underfloor heating systems. Used in production Newest technologies, modern materials.

In modern reality, electric floor heating is becoming increasingly common. This creates more comfortable conditions for accommodation.

The need for a sensor

For a stable temperature with electric floor heating, it is necessary to maintain a certain time frame for disconnecting and connecting the electricity supplied to the heating elements. It is for this reason that when installing a heated floor, it is necessary to install a temperature sensor in the heated floor.

Timely installation of a temperature sensor allows you to solve many issues. In the absence of such a sensor, it will be very difficult to maintain a comfortable optimal temperature, excessive consumption of electricity is also possible, which will entail additional financial costs.

If certain floor coverings, such as carpet or laminate, overheat, fumes that are harmful to health may be released.

There is a possibility of laminate deformation due to overheating. If you install the sensor in a heated floor system, these problems are automatically eliminated.

There are many on the Internet various photos heated floor temperature sensor. With many options to choose from, you can choose the best option for your system.

Existing types of floor heating sensors

The temperature of the heated floor is regulated by a thermostat using a connected temperature sensor. It is located near the heating elements, which facilitates more accurate measurement of the ambient temperature. Existing sensors are divided into external and internal.

The external sensor is designed to measure the room temperature; it is mounted close to the heated floor. The internal sensor is placed close to the heating elements mounted in the floor screed.

The instructions for the heated floor temperature sensor inform you that temperature sensors are classified depending on the surface under which they are planned to be installed.

If you need to install them under linoleum, or laminate, or parquet, then purchase a sensor in the form of a plastic cylinder with a wire. If the temperature sensor is mounted in concrete covering, screed, a device equipped with a protective shell is required.

Installation of sensors

Sensors are installed to be able to automatically regulate the temperature of the heated floor. Consequently, there is a need to connect a temperature sensor to the thermostat. It is with the choice of a place to install the thermostat that the installation process begins, directly of the temperature sensor.

The thermostat is installed away from other heating devices, these can be radiators, stoves, fireplaces, at a height of about one meter from the surface of the heated floor.

The mount is practically no different from a regular socket. Next, two grooves are cut, one for the power wire from the heating element connected to the thermostat, while the other is needed to connect the sensor.

The question arises of how to install a heated floor temperature sensor so that there are no difficulties when repairing it, if necessary. In order to avoid such situations, electrical wires are laid in plastic pipes, placed in prepared grooves, which will make it possible to easily make the necessary repairs.

It should be taken into account that the tube with the temperature sensor cable located on the floor should be located in the center of the gap, between the floor heating elements and about a meter from vertical wall where the thermostat was installed.

The outlet of the pipe must be sealed with tape to prevent the solution from getting inside. After installing the sensor, it is advisable to fix the pipe where the cable with the temperature sensor is located using improvised means.

If you are laying a film heated floor, then the sensor is installed under any sheet of the heater, having previously laid thermal insulation, for the efficiency of the heating system.

System check

Having completed the installation of the heated floor system, before applying the screed, it is necessary to check its performance. If this is not done, then it will be almost impossible to make any changes once you have already made the screed. Pre-measure the resistance of the temperature sensor of the heated floor and its elements.

Performance is considered confirmed if deviations in resistance indicators are within no more than 10% of the declared passport data.

It is advisable to connect the thermostat to the electrical network using an individual line from the electrical panel. Having previously checked electrical connections, the heated floor system is turned on a short time to check its performance.

After switching on, the thermostat should respond with a signal from the light bulb, while at the same time heating of the heated floor elements occurs.

Replacing the sensor

It happens that a situation arises when the floor heating system stops working. In this case, the question arises of how to check the heated floor temperature sensor. The reason can be found out using diagnostics carried out by the tester.

First you need to check the input wires; this can be done by disassembling the regulator body. After turning on the power, use a tester to check the voltage. If it is absent, all elements are checked, up to the output contacts. The wires of the thermal elements are disconnected from the de-energized regulator and further testing is carried out.

The resistance of the sensor itself is checked with an ohmmeter. If it malfunctions, it cannot be repaired; the sensor is dismantled and a new one installed.

When installing a heated floor system, you can make sure that installing a temperature sensor and connecting a temperature sensor with your own hands is an easy task. It will be much more difficult to install temperature control equipment if it was not installed in a timely manner, along with the installation of the heated floor. But even in this case, the situation can be corrected.

If there is a temperature sensor, the entire underfloor heating system can operate correctly and create a comfortable microclimate in your home.
