As you know, the hallway is the face of the apartment. So, it’s worth making sure that this “face” is well-groomed and tidy. Set up a corridor sufficient quantity functional hooks on which guests and household members can hang not only outerwear, but also hats, bags and umbrellas.

Continuing the topic, a story about using techniques that really work.

I have long promised a series of posts based on the post about. In the near future, we will just start going through the closet, putting away summer clothes on the back shelves with a sigh and hanging warm cardigans and woolen dresses on hangers, taking scarves, shawls and boots out of the depths. Therefore, it's time to start a conversation :-)

In the last post, many complained that there is not enough space, nothing fits, nowhere to put it, nothing to wear, everything is logical :-) And here our conversation can be made very short.

*all of a sudden in a scary voice* THROW OUT everything that is unnecessary and everything that you don’t wear, and you will have a place even in your very small closet. And something tells me that at this point you will mentally send me to hell :-) Who will part with their dear, valuable, found by the sweat of their brow at a sale and torn from the hands of a competitor. I’m like that myself, I’ve been walking around the closet for a month now, and most importantly, I know very clearly that I need to throw it away or give it away, but my hand doesn’t rise. My treasures! :-) But we will discuss the topic of throwing away in detail, and today we’ll talk about how not to get completely bogged down in a pile of clothes and shoes, and how to organize it all. I searched the sites and found different ideas storage of things. I will also try to answer the questions that came up in that post. I can’t help with only one thing, money for a new closet and large apartment I wouldn’t lend it to you, I wish someone would give it to me :-)

Organize the space, a very large post with a lot of pictures:

1. All things on hangers and at the same time, each on its own, in no case in layers - this, of course, is an ideal that is unattainable for many. But if there is such an opportunity, then it is better to hang everything, even tank tops. At the same time, it is good that the hangers are equally thin, this way you can save space. The only thing is jackets, it’s better to choose special hangers for them, otherwise things will lose their shape. There are some heavy knitted items that are best stored on a shelf to prevent them from stretching out, but they are in the minority. There are hangers like this, they save a little space in the closet, and at the same time things remain in sight.

Hangers and hooks for scarves and belts:

To prevent things from sliding off the hanger, you can glue the following tape:

If possible, hang a hanging rod in two rows, hang skirts, trousers, jeans on the lower rod, and blouses, tops, sweaters, cardigans on the upper rod. And sort it all by type of clothing, blouses to blouses, trousers to trousers. Plus, don’t forget to leave room for long items and don’t put a barbell underneath them: dresses, maxi skirts, coats, and raincoats will go here.

You can also sort by capsules, in one corner everything is for sports, in another - for the office, in the third - recreation, if there is a clear division of things into different categories, of course.

You can also sort by color, and I thought about this option for myself, but I realized that this would not help me much in choosing clothes in the morning. Moreover, in my closet there is a tendency to reduce the number of colors, I come to the conclusion that 2-3 basic and 2-3 bright colors in the closet are quite enough. It is not necessary for the closet to look like a rainbow. Still, there’s nothing to wear with half of it.

2. Pull-out shelves are very convenient. The main thing is not to put small things there, such as underwear and socks; when the shelf is pulled out, they will fall back onto the shelf at a lower level. I have three stacks of things on my shelf, two in front and one across the back, usually things for the next season in the back. That is, if it’s summer, then in front are T-shirts, tops, thin sweaters, T-shirts, and in the back are thicker sweaters, woolen items.

3. It’s better to fold laundry in drawers. Socks, tights, and knee socks can be stored in pull-out baskets. Immediately after washing, I sort the knee socks and socks and roll them into a ball in pairs, otherwise you won’t find them later; you can use the dividers, both built-in ones and those in the last two pictures from Ikea.

4. When space is really bad, it makes sense to completely remove things from the closet until the next fall-winter, for example, or spring-summer. You can put things in zippered drawers and put them under the bed.

The main thing is to understand what things you definitely won’t need. Down jackets, fur coats and other warm clothes can be safely put away for the summer, but a warm cardigan can come in handy on a cold summer evening, so it can be folded second row on the shelf.
They also save vacuum bags, they are good for storing things that are large or small, pregnant items, if you plan to return to them. You can also go there with something that is out of fashion; in 30 years your daughter or son will get it and it will be “vintage” for them :-)

5. Shoes can be stored in boxes, or in transparent ones so that you can see what’s in them, or you can paste photos onto regular boxes.

You can store it on shelves, but it doesn’t seem practical to me, and the sizes of shoes are different, and it’s not the best for boots. the best option, and not particularly hygienic, it’s better to put bags in such niches.

More options:

The shoes that we wear now are laid out in a special shoe closet in the hallway. Often in such closets there is space for one row of shoes; it is better to buy two at once.

Second option for a shoe cabinet:

Other options for the hallway:

Boot storage:
With this storage method, boots are likely to become deformed.

But from the “do it yourself” series. The picture below shows the inserts in boots made of wood. Then they unscrewed these metal pieces at the base and screwed in a hook:

And this is what happened:

6. It is better to make a closet right up to the ceiling, especially if there is not a lot of space in the room. You can always put summer/winter blankets on top, we store some shoes that are rarely needed, a picnic blanket, and small suitcases.

The ideal men's dressing room :-)

7. It would be nice to have a chest of drawers in addition to the closet. Pull-out shelves can be used for linen, jewelry, ties, scarves, scarves, socks and other small items that are constantly lost in the closet. By the way, a cute idea is to line the bottom of the drawers with gift paper.

8. It’s usually inconvenient and too lazy to bend down to the very bottom of the closet, so that’s where I store bed linen, towels, and, again, boxes with shoes.” thin layer"and some things that seem to be out of season, but may come in handy, such as a warm cardigan in the summer. You can also store various drawers and drawers with small things there.

9. Bags can be stored both outside and inside the closet. For example, you can hang something like this on external wall closet or inside. But this option is only suitable for bags that are used quite often (otherwise they will gather dust), and if the bags are fabric. Leather ones will quickly lose their shape and the handles will stretch, especially if the bag is heavy.

It is better to store bags on shelves, placing them vertically in a row, you can come up with dividers. I want to move all the bags into the hallway closet when we move. Because more than once it has happened that you seem to get dressed, put on your shoes and realize that you need another bag, but the bag is in the bedroom in the closet, you no longer want to go for it. So, I think the place for shoes and bags is in the hallway, if space allows.

10. For things that have already been worn once, you can buy something like this.

I dream of having a tailor's mannequin to hang my clothes on the next day. This way I will have a view of the image from the outside, otherwise in the mirror it will be one thing, and then in the photo it will be something else. Have you noticed this?

You can collect outfits for several days in advance and hang them together; there are very interesting ones for this. design solutions outside the closet.

Options for children:

11. It’s good to use signs, pictures, signs, and hang photos of outfits on the closet doors to organize your space.

12. There are many creative solutions for storing jewelry:

13. If the closet is really small and there is still some space in the room, then you can use these storage options, in addition to the usual rod on wheels:

This is not the most convenient solution, but why not, if there is simply no free wall for a closet in the room.

Pictures from websites.

Designers advise using shelving instead of large cabinets if you have the opportunity. The absence of doors immediately makes them more “airy” appearance. And if you paint the shelving unit itself the color of the wall, it will appear built-in.

Useful little things and accessories

There are many devices that can make your life easier and distribute things around the apartment. Hinged pockets can be placed on the inside door of the cabinet and even on the wall. They seem funny and cute, but are actually very roomy. This accessory will help you clean up your home, because you will always know where combs, creams or playing cards are.

They can be used to store cleaning supplies and even shoes. It is ergonomic and very comfortable.

A perforated stove in the kitchen will allow you to do without spacious cabinets. Pans and pots will always be at hand. And the railing located above the work surface will be an excellent place to store spices, cutlery and other important little things.

Pay attention to medium-sized wicker baskets. They will look great both on the floor and on shelves. You can put any little thing in such a basket: from lipstick to a children's toy forgotten on the sofa. The apartment is tidy, and you know exactly where to look for a lost item.

Making an organizer

For this you will need empty packaging, cardboard and decor: colored and self-adhesive paper, wallpaper. Place boxes inside a drawer to organize your home storage. Ideas for arranging packages depend on their size and the proportions of the box. Glue all the boxes together. If you do not have ready-made boxes, then there are two options to solve the problem:

  • Measure the length and width of the storage box. Based on the dimensions, make required quantity boxes of the same height.
  • Make walls from cardboard that will be inserted into the box. Glue the bottom. Then make cardboard dividers.

Cover the finished organizer with colored paper, wallpaper or self-adhesive tape inside and out.

The storage space is ready! It can be used to organize underwear, socks, belts, jewelry, scarves, various accessories and so on. The main thing is that you will always have everything at hand and neatly laid out.

Cable storage organization

If all this is stored in different places or in one box, but in a slide, then we can’t talk about proper storage things at home.

Let’s look at ideas for a DIY organizer below:

  1. Make a box with cells as described above.
  2. Make a honeycomb organizer. For it you will need to take cardboard toilet paper cylinders, paper towels, foil, cling film or parchment. Designate one drawer or boxes for cables. Slice required amount cylinders of equal height. Their size should be per centimeter smaller sizes box or crate. The number of cylinders depends on how many cables you have. Connect the cells together using double sided tape or glue gun. Finished cylinders can be painted with spray paint. All that remains is to insert the organizer into the box and fill it with neatly twisted cables.
