What kind of heat regulator can be put on the battery

A thermostat installed on a battery is an excellent tool for creating a favorable microclimate and an additional way to save on heating, since it allows you to reduce the supply of coolant. It is advantageous to use a thermostat for a heating radiator when the batteries are very hot.

Temperature controllers should be installed on the following batteries:

  1. Aluminum.
  2. Steel.
  3. Bimetallic.
  4. Copper.

Putting the regulator on is useless because a cast-iron radiator or battery has a large thermal inertia.

Structure

The design of any thermostat consists of two main elements:

  1. Thermal valve (thermostatic valve).
  2. Thermoelement.

The thermal valve is a conventional or valve. It is a shut-off valve through which the coolant passes, and inside which there is a seat and a cone. The taper affects the degree of overlap of the working section. This element can rise up and down, which leads to a change in the amount of incoming heat carrier.

In the thermostatic valve, the thermostatic head moves the cone. It is also known as a thermostatic element.

It consists of:
  • grounds;
  • cover, which is the body. In some models, the cover can change its position. This adjusts the operating temperature;
  • cylinder;
  • thermal agent;
  • spindle. It is often supplemented with a strong spring.

The main element is the cylinder. It is also called "bellows".

The cylinder is a small, sealed and resilient container. It is filled with a heating agent. Most often it is represented by gas and liquid. Gas and liquid are selected so that at the slightest temperature fluctuations they can quickly change their volume. Some manufacturers use solid thermal agents. Due to the fact that they react to temperature changes after 30 minutes or more, few companies use them.

The cylinder with the thermal agent is placed under the top of the housing cover. There is a spindle under the bellows that connects to the stem of the thermal valve.

Principle of operation

  1. Changes. If it grows, the volume of the cylinder increases. This stretches the bellows.
  2. The enlarged bellows presses against the spindle located underneath.
  3. The spindle causes pressure on the stem and plug (spool). The latter goes down and partially or completely blocks the flow of the heated liquid.
  4. The battery begins to cool down, the room temperature drops, which leads to a decrease in the volume of the bellows.
  5. The spring presses on the spindle or cone, and both elements rise upward, which increases the flow of the coolant.
  6. The radiator heats up, raising the room temperature. At the same time, the cylinder is enlarged. The cycle repeats itself.

The most advanced thermostats for radiators are capable of regulating the temperature with an accuracy of 1 ° C. It all depends on what kind of heat agent is in the middle of the bellows. If it responds quickly to indoor climate change, then the accuracy is high.

The operation of all thermostats on batteries leads to the fact that some of the radiators always remain cold. The flow of the heating medium is limited. However, the batteries can be cold due to clogging or air. Detect these problems by removing the thermal head and waiting. If after a while the surface of the radiator becomes completely warm, then there is no problem.

Thermostats for radiators may not always work correctly. This is due to the following factors:

  1. Curtain closure.
  2. Drafts.
  3. Direct sunlight.
  4. Additional heat sources.

Kinds

Thermostats for radiators are of different types. And they are classified according to two criteria:

  1. Thermal head type.
  2. Heat agent type.

According to the first criterion, it happens:

  1. Manual thermostat for radiators.
  2. Mechanical.
  3. Electronic.



The first type is a conventional valve with a simple cap that needs to be twisted left and right. Its rotation leads to the raising / lowering of the spool in the valve. Such a regulator needs constant care, because when it gets too warm, you need to close it, and when it gets cold, you need to change the position of its lid again. But you can easily remove the cover and put an automatic thermostat in its place. There is no need to replace the valve, because it is universal.

The mechanical head thermostat also requires manual adjustment. However, it is done only once. Further, the temperature is automatically regulated. Setting the desired temperature level is done by turning the thermal head cover. In most cases, the lid has over / under marks or numbers from 1 to 5-7.

Some models have a remote sensor. It connects to the base using a capillary tube.

Electronic battery thermostats have a lot of useful options. They are large in size. This is due to the fact that the electronic control unit as well as the servo drive require electrical energy. In many models, it comes from batteries or removable batteries. They are located in the building.

The main feature of electronic thermostats for radiators is the ability to work in several modes and change them independently. At night, on weekends or during the absence of people in the apartment, you can set a reduced temperature. Next, you can configure the thermal head so that a few hours before the residents appear in the apartment or house, the regime changes, and the room warms up to the desired temperature.

Thermal agent types

The most commonly used are liquid and gas. Because of this there are such types of thermal heads:

  1. Liquid.
  2. Gas.

More regulators of the first type are cheap and simple... But they run the battery more slowly.

The gas regulator for the radiator has less inertia, thanks to which it is able to quickly respond to changes in the room temperature.

In practice, there is little difference between the two types of responses.

Almost all types of thermostats are capable of setting the temperature, the range of which is + 6 ... + 28 ° С.
