DIY wooden blinds. Wooden blinds: main varieties, installation and production Do-it-yourself wooden blinds drawings

If buying new blinds doesn’t fit into your plans or budget, but you have one free evening and a charge of creative inspiration, then we suggest you make your own blinds from available materials.

We made 2 step-by-step master class, how to make blinds with your own hands and 1 master class on how to update and beautifully decorate horizontal blinds.

Master class No. 1: Pleated blinds from wallpaper

Make these paper blinds you can do it in just a couple of hours, and if you still have wallpaper after the renovation, you don’t even have to go to the store. Pleated blinds will last about a year, and then you can just make new ones, because it’s so simple, beautiful and economical. Paper blinds are also great for decorating windows. country houses and joint creativity with children.

To make blinds from wallpaper like in the photo above you will need:

  1. Roll paper wallpaper(only paper ones will do, since vinyl and non-woven ones won’t be able to form an accordion);
  2. Auxiliary materials: scissors or stationery cutter, ruler, pencil;
  3. An awl or a hole punch (an awl is better);
  4. A rope longer than the height of the window and 5-7 mm thick or a thin satin ribbon;
  5. Latch with end cap of a suitable color;
  6. If desired, two more tapes of any width and a length 2.5 times the height of the window. These ribbons are for decoration only;
  7. Double-sided tape (or glue) and Velcro to match the wallpaper, if you want to make curtains with a “swag” around the edge.

Instructions:

  1. First you need to cut a piece of wallpaper to the required length based on the following calculation: window height + 30 cm. Then you need to assemble the canvas into an accordion. You can do this by eye, but the pleating will be more accurate if you first line the wallpaper from the reverse side into strips 2.5-3 cm wide. A ruler will help you bend the wallpaper evenly, and a pencil or pen will help you iron and fix the folds.
  2. Now the resulting accordion of wallpaper needs to be assembled, measured and marked in the middle on the first “lamella” and a through hole made in this place using an awl. You can also use a hole punch, but then the holes will have to be made in parts and the holes will not be in the middle of the “slats”, but a little closer to the edge, but they will be more accurate and wider. Next, take the rope and pass it through the entire accordion. If the rope is synthetic, then its tip can be burned a little to make it sharp, then it will be easier to thread the rope into the holes.
  3. The end of the rope on the first upper “slat” must be tied into a knot so that it does not slip out of the hole, and the tip itself can either be left to tie the curtains to the cornice, or cut off if you want to glue and attach the curtains directly to the window frame.
  4. At this stage, you can also glue some kind of solid base to the first lamella, for example cardboard, plastic corner or a thin rail to use to hang blinds on the windows.
  5. We put a fastener on the lower end of the rope (at the bottom of the curtains) and assemble our curtains to the desired level. Now we glue Velcro on the right and left ends of the wallpaper using glue or double sided tape, then we glue these Velcro and...voo-ala! We get pleated blinds with “swag”.
  6. And finally, we attach our curtains to the window.

Adviсe:

  • If you want to make horizontal blinds without swag, then you need to do through holes in two places, as shown in the picture on the right. And, of course, in this case you will need either two ropes or one long one. And to make horizontal blinds more interesting, you can decorate them with ribbons, which, moreover, will hide the ropes and fix the curtains at the desired level. See the photo below for an example of such decor.

  • Instead of a fastener, you can use a button of a suitable size with two or three holes, as shown in the photo below.

  • Of course, each accordion blank can be cut to width. But, as a rule, wallpaper is quite suitable for a standard window. standard width 53-55 cm. But if you need larger blinds, then you can choose wallpaper 1 m wide.

Here's a selection of photos different ideas for your inspiration.

Master class No. 2: Blinds made from newspaper tubes

If you prefer ethnic or eco-style, then you can make paper blinds from newspapers, or rather from newspaper tubes. This method will require a little more time and effort from you, but such blinds will last longer.

  • Tip: If you wish, instead of newspaper tubes, you can use wooden twigs, plastic tubes or reeds.

To make blinds from newspaper tubes you will need:

  1. For one window 1 m high, you need to prepare about 200 painted and dried newspaper tubes slightly longer than the width of the window;
  2. Auxiliary materials: scissors and PVA glue;
  3. A coil of rope to match the tubes, for example, for blinds in ethno- or eco-style, twine made of jute or simply nylon is suitable;
  4. Curtain rings (2 pcs.);
  5. If desired, a clamp with a limit switch in order to make a lifting mechanism.

How to properly twist newspaper tubes and lengthen them, watch this video tutorial from experienced craftswoman Elena Tishchenko:

And here is a useful video on how to paint newspaper tubes, also from Elena Tishchenko:

  • Tip: you can paint the tubes, simulating reed twigs, with a brown, beige, beige-olive or gray-beige stain.

Instructions:

  1. We lay out the newspaper tubes in a row on the floor and level them;
  2. We begin to tie the tubes to each other: fold a long rope in half, wrap a ring around it to attach it to the window, tie one or two knots, then tie the first tube and make 1-2 knots in the same way, take the second and repeat the steps until all the tubes are will contact you. Then we begin tying the tubes from the opposite edge, but this can also be done in parallel with the first row.

  • Tip: you can connect the tubes with a chain of air loops as shown in the photo on the right.
  1. Now we need to align the edges of the blinds. To do this, use a ruler to mark the cutting line for the newspaper twigs (along the entire curtain fabric) and carefully cut off the excess with scissors, moving from bottom to top.
  2. And finally, we begin to manufacture the lifting mechanism. To do this, you just need to tie one loop to the top and bottom edges of the curtain (in the middle), thread it through the back of the blinds and fasten the rope to the bottom loop, and then pull it through the top loop. You need to put a clamp with an end cap on the end of the rope so that by pulling the rope, you can easily lift the curtain halfway and secure it in this position.

Master class No. 3: Decor of blinds

Boring “office” plastic, bamboo or wooden blinds can be updated with your own hands and decorated specifically for color scheme and the style of the room's interior.

To decorate blinds as in the photo above you will need:

  1. Wallpaper or any colored paper;
  2. Plastic, wooden or bamboo blinds;
  3. PVA glue and brush;
  4. Scissors;
  5. Ruler, pencil.

Instructions:

  1. We measure the width, length and number of lamellas;
  2. On a roll of wallpaper we draw stripes in the same quantity and the same width and length as the lamellas;
  3. Then we mark on the markings the places of the holes into which the ropes are threaded - here the strips will need to be cut into three parts so that in the future we can bypass these places in the process of gluing the lamellas;

  1. We cut out the strips along the marked lines and, as already mentioned, cut each strip into three parts. If you need to save a picture or pattern of wallpaper, then you need to cut the paper in strict sequence, and in order not to get confused, back side you can make notes;
  2. Finally, we glue the paper strips onto the slats. It’s okay if the stripes don’t lie quite evenly; as a result, the flaws won’t be very noticeable.

With the help of strict blinds made of durable material, we create unique species interior, the individuality of the room is emphasized in an original way. Available with plastic, wood, and fabric slats. The structures are easy to install, easy to care for, and convenient to use. Later in the article we will describe in detail how you can make blinds with your own hands and what are the advantages and disadvantages of such a design.

Design and main characteristics of devices for windows with wooden slats

Wooden blinds are available in horizontal and vertical design formats. Classic products regardless of type they have lifting swivel mechanism, control cord, lamellas with horizontal or vertical arrangement, cornice, clamps and hooks for fastening the canvases. By connecting the cord to each element, all slats move in the desired direction and return to their original position. The lifting and turning mechanism is attached to the hangers and clamps, so the canvases rotate around their axis, changing the intensity of the flow of natural light.

Attention

The most popular curtain type blinds are horizontal and vertical.

The advantages of wooden blinds are strength and reliability. Even mechanical damage does not always result in irreversible defects, and high humidity is not a problem for canvases coated with a varnish layer. The main element is the cornice, which can be plastic or metal. The metal element is more durable and does not deform under the weight of wooden slats. If the cornice bends even a little, the blinds will not be able to perform all the functions assigned to them. To increase the performance and long-term operation of the cornice and its movable parts, you need to regularly use silicone lubricant. Horizontal designs with a control panel are more convenient, quickly change the illumination of the room. Horizontal blinds have the same design as vertical ones, but the rotation of the slats around their axis is carried out by turning the rod of the lift-and-turn mechanism. Most often, the principle of fastening curtains differs window opening. If vertical structures are mounted on top of the walls, closing the opening, then horizontal structures are mounted with clamps only on individual windows. Horizontal blinds consist of slats 2–3 cm thick, vertical blinds are created from canvases 16–25 cm wide.

Advantages and disadvantages

Blinds are universal and easy to use in any room. Among the entire range of curtains, wooden blinds are qualitatively distinguished by the following useful properties:
  1. Thanks to vertically positioned slats, protruding beyond the window sill and wall slopes, the illusion of a visual expansion of space is created in the room.
  2. They are used for rooms of all shapes and sizes, microclimate conditions, shapes and dimensions, window materials (about the rules for choosing and installing blinds on plastic windows read).
  3. Using horizontal and vertical blinds is easy and requires no additional effort. It is enough to change the angle of inclination to the window glass by turning the rod.
  4. Used in bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, offices.
  5. High environmental characteristics of wood are ensured by safe use even for rooms with small children.
  6. Reliable, robust design, which can withstand even severe mechanical damage and loads.
  7. Can be used in rooms with high humidity, temperature fluctuations and other changes in microclimate, maintaining the same appearance of the material for a long time.
Wood goes well with different building materials , types of finishing, decoration, furniture and other interior elements. Product from wooden planks and others structural elements more expensive compared to plastic and metal counterparts. Making wooden slats at home is a complex, time-consuming task. Therefore, not everyone can have blinds with wooden panels. This is the only significant drawback.

Depending on the type of wood, the cost can vary significantly, since rare materials, such as mahogany or rosewood, are more expensive even in raw materials.

How to do it?

To create blinds from wood with your own hands, you will need to select special thin plates or slats to construct the slats, since the curtains should not be too heavy. We need stronger fasteners and connecting parts that must withstand wooden plate instead of a fabric or plastic strip.

Tools and materials

You will need the following set of basic materials and necessary tools:
  • spray gun, fine-pored foam sponge or small brush for paint and varnish composition;
  • wood paint, varnish or stain to protect canvases and create a decorative effect;
  • transparent primer for working with wood;
  • 3 clamps;
  • 2 mounting brackets for fixing the cornice;
  • 3 self-tapping screws, rings;
  • hand abrasives or sandpaper for rubbing the surface of wood lamellas;
  • PVA glue;
  • 1 bottom strip, 1 cornice along the length of the window opening or with a protrusion beyond its borders by several centimeters on both sides;
  • 2 bars 4x2 cm;
  • braid 2–3 cm wide;
  • nylon cord;
  • required quantity wooden planks with dimensions of 2–3 mm thick, 3–5 cm or 16–25 cm wide, depending on the type of structure;
  • woodworking tool.

If you have a special machine that allows you to unravel regular board For several elements with a thickness of 2–3 mm, you can make lamellas yourself. Otherwise, you will need to buy blanks on the market or in a specialized store.

Marking and preparing lamellas

If vertical blinds are made from wood, then a margin is taken into account when installing the structure externally, otherwise there should be a maximum approximation to the dimensions of the window opening. For horizontal curtains that are mounted directly on the window, you need to maintain their width according to the size of a specific window opening (you can find out more about how to make and install horizontal blinds). The longest lamella strips cannot exceed 200 cm, since the blades will sag, leading to malfunction of the mechanisms. The same applies to the width of the lamellas, which should not be more than 12 cm or less than 4 cm, since other products will not be combined with the dimensions of the window. IN vertical structures There must be an overlap of up to 10 mm between each adjacent slats, which must be taken into account when calculating the number of slats for a specific window opening (for details on how to assemble and hang vertical blinds, read). Planks are purchased in the required sizes, since it is impossible to make them from boards in artisanal conditions. This requires a tree-blowing machine. To decorate the surface, paint and varnish coatings are used, which cover the product after abrasive processing of wood.

Assembly of the structure

  1. The structure is assembled from wooden blocks located on the sides of the curtain. The frame is made according to individual measurements of the lamellas used. Recesses are drilled for the dowels in the end area of both sides of the frame. The same recesses should be on the side and vertical elements of the frame, and with complete coincidence of the dimensions of the diameter of the choppers with the dowels.
  2. When installing individual slats, take into account their angle of inclination and the size of the blades so that the distance between adjacent slats is at least 2 cm. The holes are drilled on a machine or with a drill so that the recesses are slightly oval. Their depth should not exceed 7 mm. Any irregularities on the surface of the wood are removed with a chisel.
  3. The entire structure is attached to the sides of the frame using wood glue, then the slats are inserted into the oval slots. The dowels sit on the glue in the other sidewall.
  4. The last stage is the assembly of the structure with the arrangement of inclined strips inside.

Next you will see drawings according to which you can make blinds.

Rules of care

Products with wooden elements often covered with dust and other contaminants. They need to be removed in a timely manner so that they do not turn into stains. If for protective coating If a special varnish was used, then the slats and frame elements are wiped with a lint-free cloth or rag.

Even if there is paint coating Do not use too much moisture or abrasives to avoid damaging the appearance. decorative surface. Without increased moisture, the varnish coating will be less likely to crack.

Using many polishes for wooden surface provides the varnish coating with repellent properties that prevent the frequent settling of dirt due to the antistatic effect. It is better to use more expensive wax compounds that protect the wood from contact with water and other atmospheric factors.

Advice from experts on manufacturing and operation

  • Suitable for creating wooden blinds different wood, starting from linden and beech, ending with expensive types of wood.
  • Proper processing of the material will ensure long-term operation of the entire structure.
  • It is important to take correct measurements of the width of the window opening and its height in order to calculate the required number of lamellas, taking into account the overlap with adjacent panels.
  • Apply different designs- automated or manually controlled, with or without a rotary and lift-and-turn mechanism.
  • Fastening vertical blinds requires a special clamp for mounting the cornice on the wall surface. In the case of horizontal structures, fasteners are placed on slopes or on the surface of window frames.

    Attention

    Depending on the method of fastening the blinds, their size and number of elements depend.

look good in different types premises, even in bathrooms, attics, kitchens. Wooden slats do an excellent job of protecting against dust and dirt. Application varnish coating or paint provides a long service life, and regular treatment with a wax-based antistatic agent will reduce the frequency of cleaning.

In contact with

Window openings in residential premises are rarely left without equipment that regulates the level of room illumination and visibility from outside. One of these is an accessory that is stylish, functional and therefore in demand. But products of the simplest design, attractive due to their low cost, are usually not durable. A expensive devices are not available to everyone or scare away the consumer with the risk of purchasing an accessory of inappropriate quality for the price.

Blind samples different colors execution

Because basic design horizontal arrangement devices are not difficult, there is a way out of the situation. Let's consider how to make wooden blinds - an accessory from the most environmentally friendly natural material.

A device with horizontal lamellas can be divided into 3 groups of components:

  • upper – upper cornice with a rotating mechanism (axis, flywheel);
  • middle – a set of lamellas;
  • lower – lower cornice.

These groups are interconnected by cords for raising and lowering the blinds and synchronously rotating the slats around their longitudinal axes.

One of the advantages natural wood– environmental friendliness of all its types with the affordability of most of them. Besides, modern technologies finishing allows you to imitate products made from common types of wood for accessories made from valuable species.

Therefore, do-it-yourself wooden blinds are a widespread option for arranging window openings.

Blinds with horizontal and vertical slats

However, there is no fixture template, as devices may differ in the following characteristics:

  • design – horizontal, vertical (as a variety – “Roman”);
  • installation location – wall above the opening, upper slope, window unit;
  • Dimensions – determined by the size of the opening and the installation location;
  • The material for making the lamellas is wood, bamboo.

Options for placing blinds: on the wall above the opening, on the upper slope, on the window block

Horizontal slats visually expand the room, while vertical slats “raise” the ceiling.”

The method of attaching the device to the base depends on the installation location of the blinds. Installation on concrete structure requires drilling holes, and the product can be mounted on a metal-plastic window block using glue.

Horizontal bamboo blinds

The dimensions of the accessory also depend on the installation location of the device - when installing blinds on a wall above an opening, they will be larger than when mounting them on an upper slope or window block.

Wooden blinds also include products with bamboo slats, which have all the advantages of wood with less weight.

Making your own wooden blinds

The work is immediately preceded by the design part. Regardless of whether the slats will be located vertically or horizontally, it is necessary to decide on which side (left or right) the device control cords will be located - raising and lowering and adjusting the angle of the slats. This depends on the location of the window opening on the wall, the arrangement of furniture, the individual preferences of the owner (right-handed, left-handed), etc.

Device with horizontal lamellas

When making blinds yourself, preference is most often given to this design as the easiest to implement.

First of all, the installation location of the device is determined so that the size of the manufactured components corresponds to the nuances of the location.

If the accessory will be mounted on a metal-plastic window block, you must select a method of attachment to the frame.

Choice is also important finishing blinds - depending on the technology, decoration can be done both before installation of the device and after installation.

Layout and arrangement of components

When making an accessory for installation on a wall, the vertical size of the blinds should be 10 cm greater than the height of the window opening, and the width of the device should be 20 cm greater than its horizontal dimension.

Important! Maximum length slats are limited to 2.0 m, since larger size will be accompanied by deflection of the slats, problems in the functioning of the lifting and turning mechanisms, and the width is made from 4 to 12 cm - in such a way that the parts are visually comparable to the dimensions of the window.

When the blinds are opened, adjacent slats should overlap each other by 8-10 mm, therefore, when calculating the number of slats of the required length, the vertical size of the future device must be divided by the width of one plate, reduced by these 8-10 mm.

Horizontal wooden blinds in open and closed position

Preparation of components

To make lamellas, they purchase ready-made wooden planks of the required length and width or order them from a pre-selected type of wood. Linden has proven itself well in this capacity - the material is not only suitable for decoration, but also lightweight.

Important! Options decorative design There are many slats, but one preliminary operation must be performed - after mechanical and abrasive processing of the slats and cornices is completed, a protective layer of nitro varnish must be applied to them, regardless of the type of wood.

Samples of produced wooden slats for making blinds

It is difficult to make slats and cornices only according to the description, so it is better to take a closer look at the model of blinds in advance, which you can use as a sample.

Accessories industrial production, simple at first glance, have components in their design that can be manufactured in living conditions very difficult. For example, a system of rotary cords are elements made by weaving a number of cells with a fixed pitch of transverse sections. When weaving this system by hand, it will not be possible to accurately maintain the step, and the slats in the blinds will not be parallel to each other. Therefore, it is better to use another technology of execution - from braid, which will be attached to the ends of the planks located at a given pitch.

Using braid as a swivel cord

To assemble the blinds, you must first drill the slats, top and bottom slats.

A longitudinal axis is drawn on the lower eaves and, stepping back 10-15 cm from both ends, one hole is made on each side - in such a way that a cord can be threaded through them. On the front side of the cornice, the holes are countersinked - slightly expanded in depth by 0.5 cm in order to subsequently recess the cord knot.

On the upper cornice, the holes are made with the same distance from the edges, but in a perpendicular direction - from the front side to the back, and the diameter should ensure the free passage of the cord, taking into account the break at the corners.

On the slats, from points applied in the same way, perpendiculars 1-3 cm long are laid on both sides of the axis (depending on the width of the slats). At the ends of the resulting segments (2-6 cm), holes are drilled with a diameter 1 mm larger than the diameter of the cord.

Then the holes are connected to each other using needle files and slots are obtained along which the cord should move freely.

Making slots in the slats for the lifting and lowering cord

There is no need to tint the cut surface, but coat it with colorless hydrophobic composition(nitrovarnish, wax- and paraffin-containing mixtures) is necessary.

Watching this video will give a clearer description of the lamella manufacturing technology:

Assembly and installation

Assembly of the device begins from the bottom bar. Cut two pieces of cord as long as equal height window opening plus another 0.5 m. A knot is tied at one end of each segment, after which the cords are threaded with the free ends into the holes until they are locked with knots in the countersunk holes. Stopper knots will also be knitted on them with a pitch equal to the width of the lamellas minus 1 cm, on top of each of which the lamellas will be strung in turn.

Two pieces of braid are cut 2-5 cm wide and a length equal to twice the height of the window opening plus another 20-25 cm. One end of each piece is attached from below to the cornice with a stapler opposite the hole with the threaded cord. Then marks are applied to the braid with a simple pencil in increments also equal to the width of the lamellas minus 1 cm. In the places where the marks are applied, the braid is attached with a furniture stapler to the edges of the slats - also opposite the slots made.

Schematic diagram of the layout of controls on horizontal blinds

After fixing the tape to all slats on the front side of the blinds, the tape is threaded through the holes in the upper cornice and continues to be attached to the slats to the lower cornice.

After finishing fixing to the tape with back side For blinds, a decorative cord is sewn near the first bar at the top, the second end of which is brought out to the front side. By pulling this element, you can rotate the slats to the desired angle.

Decorative cord for controlling the angle of rotation of the slats

Installing blinds on a wall is not particularly difficult. Brackets are attached to the upper cornice with self-tapping screws, along which on the base using bubble level Markings are made and holes are drilled for plastic snipes, after which the device is mounted at the design location.

Blinds with vertical slats

An accessory with this orientation of the slats is more difficult to make independently, since it does not use the gravity of the slats. Make and assemble a rotary mechanism at home required design, while also providing a decent level of aesthetics, is difficult.

Therefore, if you wish to install in an apartment original accessory usually they do it differently - they buy inexpensive blinds and replace the slats with them, installing slats high class artistic performance.

Options for vertical blinds

Important! When choosing an accessory to replace planks, it is necessary to purchase models with a margin of safety, since installing wooden planks instead of synthetic ones will increase the load on the structure.

Conclusion

Do-it-yourself wooden blinds are a completely feasible intention if you have basic carpentry and installation work. If this operation is being performed for the first time, it is advisable to look in advance at the store for an accessory model whose design is most suitable for assembly in your conditions. Pictures of the main components taken close-up, will greatly simplify your work, acting as a proven visual aid.

The main point of the article

  1. Blinds are an effective and functional accessory, so the desire to make a device with original characteristics or, conversely, to assemble an inexpensive device with your own hands is quite natural. In this case, you need not to make a mistake and choose a design that can be implemented independently.
  2. Of the existing blind designs, the easiest to make with your own hands are roller-type products, but accessories with horizontal slats are more functional, and their self-assembly not much more difficult.
  3. Lamels from natural wood are good choice For homemade blinds– even with the simplest design of the slats, the accessory looks good. No less important than the decorative components are the seemingly simple device control mechanisms. The accuracy of marking during their installation is necessary condition correct operation of the entire device.
  4. Make blinds complex structures without professional skills it is impractical - with high degree Most likely the result will be a short-lived accessory with poor aesthetics.

I've always been amazed by the beautiful view wooden products and designs. Natural materials that are used in wall or floor cladding create a warm and cozy design. Just recently I installed in my house wooden windows and realized that now the old metal blinds are completely out of place. My friend advised me to make wooden blinds with my own hands and it seemed to me great idea. I always carry out renovations at my home myself - I installed the windows myself, made the slopes and window sills myself, and therefore I also decided to make wooden blinds myself.

We consider the types and features

On this moment exists great amount There are different types of blinds, they can be made of plastic or aluminum, as well as fabric. But undoubtedly, wooden blinds are considered the most refined and original. They can be divided into the following groups:

  • Vertical – This position allows you to control sunlight. Blinds are somewhat similar to regular curtains, but are more functional. In addition, wooden slats visually lengthen the height of the room. Using vertical elements you can close not only the window in the room, but balcony doors, which are an additional light source
  • Horizontal – Suitable for narrow rooms, allow you to limit sunlight thanks to the ladder design. Most often used for office premises
  • Roman lamellas are small in width, and the entire structure is rolled up

It is possible to attach the blinds both to the ceiling space and to the opening above the window. Some craftsmen use instead of fasteners double sided tape, however, I advise using more reliable materials.

Important! Wooden blinds are environmentally friendly and cannot cause harm to health. The same cannot be said about plastic structures.

Self-production

Wooden blinds on the balcony

If you have certain skills or you decide to try making blinds yourself, then let's look at all the steps that allow you to carry out the work efficiently. Before you make wooden blinds, you should stock up on material. In general, any type of wood is suitable for blinds, but the best would be:

  1. Bamboo
  2. Cork tree

Think in advance about how to place the blinds - this also determines the size of the future slats. For small rooms, it is better to mount the structure in a window opening, but wooden blinds extending beyond the window will require additional fasteners.

Follow this sequence:

  • Take measurements of the window opening that will be decorated with wooden blinds
  • To find out the number of slats needed, divide the window height by 11
  • Find out how long the panels will be. If you decide to install wooden blinds in the opening, then subtract a couple of centimeters from its total width

To make slats, use a sawmill; in some cases, it is possible to order ready-made slats. If a sawmill is used, then after cutting out the parts they require grinding. Subsequently, they are fired using blowtorch and treated with stain. For decorative and protective purposes, the panels should be varnished - this will extend the life of the structure and give it a more impressive appearance.

When the planks are ready and completely dry, we can move on to drilling the holes. Select the middle of all the slats and make a hole there - the inserted hook will allow it to be fixed to the base. Next, take the thread that will hold the structure on itself and measure two pieces that will be 20 cm longer than our new blinds. The third thread, which will be in the middle, will allow you to control the lighting - its length should be twice the height of the window. The next steps are:

  1. The first bar is located between the ends of the thread and is fixed with a clamp or large knot
  2. The next plank is installed after a short distance - for all slats it will be the same
  3. When the last slat of the blind is installed, the ends of the thread are tied and secured at the top. The central one is positioned so as to hold the slats in the open position. When loosened, wooden blinds will close

Advantages of natural material

Wooden blinds in the interior of the apartment

Do-it-yourself wooden blinds will make you very happy for a long time. In addition to the spectacular appearance Blinds made of wood will create a comfortable and calm environment. Agree, it is much more pleasant to be in a room with wooden curtains than metal elements. The advantages of using natural material for self-made curtains:

  • The material is environmentally friendly and does not harm the health of others
  • Blinds can safely be called universal. They are able to fit into various interior solutions, if they are made with natural motifs
  • Durable - this design can last much longer than its other analogues
  • It is very easy to care for the material - if dust accumulates, just vacuum the slats or wipe with a soft cloth

The only disadvantage of using wooden blinds is the instability of the material to moisture. Therefore, it is better to use such designs in rooms with an optimal level of humidity, and if you need curtains for the bathroom, then plastic or aluminum blinds are better.

Wooden blinds for windows

IN Lately the use of such “curtains” is much more widespread than the boring curtains. This is due to constant washing of curtains and accumulation of dust on them. Modern blinds It is very easy to clean from dirt and there is no need to even dismantle the panels. By the way, even special brushes have appeared in stores that follow the contour of the panels; they can speed up the cleaning process. By the way wooden panels more resistant to mechanical damage. Aluminum elements can bend under pressure and do not return to their original position.

1. Preparatory stage independent work
2. Installation of nozzles on lamellas and installation of the structure
3. Important Tips before creating wooden blinds with your own hands
4. Option for installing wooden blinds without drilling

In this article we will tell you how to make wooden blinds http://ojaluzi.ru/vid/derevyannye-zhalyuzi/ at home. By making wooden horizontal blinds, you will solve the problem of adjusting the light and designing the double-glazed window for a long time. As a rule, structures for blinds are made from thin logs of wood: cherry, beech, oak, yew.

Regardless of the type of wood, such blinds look elegant and natural, especially if they are also made of wood. Tree - natural material, characterized by environmental friendliness. The lamellas get additional shine thanks to the application of varnish or paint, so they have a characteristic shine in the sun.

The price category of wooden structures is relatively high compared to plastic or fabric options, so we suggest you make wooden blinds yourself. Let's take a closer look at each of the stages of blinds production.

Preparatory stage of independent work

To make the blind structure, choose thin pieces of wood so that the structure does not look too bulky; natural or synthetic bamboo is also suitable. First, measure the window.

When taking measurements, use a metal ruler, as it measures most accurately!

Measure the height of the window, then the width. To take measurements under horizontal design, decide initially on the installation method. In order to install the structure, it is necessary to measure the length and width of the glass unit. When purchasing a model, add +1 cm to the length and +5 to the width.

Measuring wooden blinds to a double-glazed window involves the following actions:

1. We measure the width of the window opening in several places.
2. Make a mark at the widest point.
3. Add one centimeter to the width.
4. Measure the height.
5. Add four centimeters to the height.

To find out how many lamellas you will need to prepare, divide the sum of the heights by eleven centimeters, the number that turns out corresponds to the right amount slats. The length of the lamellas should be four to five centimeters less than the width of the window if you are going to install the structure to a double-glazed window.

List of required tools:

Drills and drill;
scissors;
brackets and hooks;
aluminum tape;
clamps;
construction adhesive.

Immediately before installation, you still have to visit a construction market. Not all parts for blinds can be made independently, so you need to purchase a rotating mechanism and curtain rod in advance. As a rule, the components of blinds are not expensive. The cornice, rollers, brackets, control thread lock and turning mechanism are the main elements of the top.

Installation of nozzles on lamellas and installation of the structure

First, let's check the presence of all elements. Let's make holes for the adjusting thread in the crossbar. Install the step cord. Then we take the strips, insert the cord, connecting the step of the cord and securing it in the control mechanism. Next, we secure the lower part with a clamp and check the operation of the structure.

How to make wooden blinds video:

In order for the structure to hold tightly and the lamellas not to slip or become deformed, it is important to secure them correctly.

Drill a hole in the center of each nozzle and insert a hook into it. With the help of the latter, the blinds will be attached to the base.
Drill a hole at the top and bottom measuring two millimeters. Make sure that the holes are strictly in the center.
Connect the slats with aluminum tape, which will rotate the slats.
Pull the adjuster cord through the holes and secure it with construction tape.
Attach the preparatory slats to the guide.
Install two large hooks to the ceiling. Thread the cord through the hooks that previously connected the slats. Lower the cord into a loop. This is necessary so that it is easy to change the position of the slats.

Important tips before creating wooden blinds with your own hands

You can buy all the elements for the structure separately at a hardware store. Such materials are pre-treated with special dust-repellent and antistatic agents. Therefore, it is easy to care for the slats and clean them from dust. Due to the fact that wooden structures heavier than woven or bamboo, purchase additional brackets for installation.

Wooden blinds are one of the most attractive, natural types of blinds.

Option to install wooden blinds without drilling

Due to the fact that wooden slats are heavy, we believe that they should only be installed using a drill and brackets on the cornice. But wooden bamboo blinds are incredibly lightweight, so this model can be installed on special L-shaped fasteners. Blinds that require installation without drilling have a lot of advantages:

1. Traceless dismantling. When the time comes to remove, there will be no traces of screws and dowels left on the surface of the double-glazed windows or walls. You don't have to cover areas with silicone to hide installation marks. There is no danger of window depressurization.
2. The cornice installed on the bracket or attached with mounting tape will not sag or deform.
3. Installation is carried out independently. It doesn't involve a solution complex tasks, so you can easily cope without outside help and save personal funds.
4. Mounting tape and brackets are sold at affordable prices. You don't have to spend money on installation.

Visual instructions

As we have already said, there are several types of blinds that are attached to a double-glazed window without the use of a drill; the following devices are used for this:

L-shaped brackets (they are attached to the active sashes of double-glazed windows).
Construction tape.
Special magnets.

There are two options for clamps: metal and plastic.

Plastic clips are placed on active window sashes. The cornice of the structure is attached to them, then the blinds are installed. The undeniable advantage of this type of mounting on plastic windows is that they are located as close as possible to the glass. They don't take up much space on the windowsill. Metal ones work using the same technology. True, they differ in the production material. Heavy types are attached to metal brackets: aluminum, wood, multi-textured. Please note that clamps cannot be installed on closed sashes.
