This article briefly and clearly describes the professional rules of the game “Mafia” - popular game For big companies. To start a full-fledged game, ten participants are required. The presenter monitors the progress of the game and regulates its stages.

In order to distribute roles, the leader deals the cards face down: each player receives one card. The deck consists of 10 cards: three black and seven red. "Reds" are civilians, and "Blacks" are the mafia.

One of the red cards is different from the rest - this is the Sheriff - the leader of the “Red” team. “Blacks”, in turn, also have their own leader - Don.

The game is divided into changing stages of two types: night and day. Objective of the game: “Black” must eliminate “Red” and vice versa.

Rules of the game "Mafia" more details...

Ten players are invited to the table. At the very beginning of the game, the host announces that “night” has come and all players, without exception, must cover their eyes with masks. Then each player, in turn, takes off the mask, draws a card, studies and remembers it, the leader hides the card, and the player puts the mask back on.

Players wearing headbands must tilt their heads down so that the revival of neighbors or rustling noises do not become a source of any additional information for them.

After the host’s words “The Mafia wakes up,” the players with black cards and the Mafia Don take off their armbands and introduce themselves to each other. This is an exceptional night when the entire mafia opens its eyes. It was provided to them in order to, without the help of words, agree on the procedure for eliminating the “Reds”. The “agreement” should be carried out very, very quietly, since the “red” participants sitting in close proximity can sense any movement. When the presenter says that “the mafia is falling asleep,” the “black” participants put back their armbands.

The presenter announces: “Don is waking up.” The presenter meets Don. In the following nights, Don will open his eyes with the goal of finding the Sheriff of the game. When the announcer announces that “Don is falling asleep,” Don puts on a blindfold.

After the introduction of the Leader and the Sheriff, morning comes when all players take off their armbands.

So, the first day comes. During the day there is a discussion. Mafia games dictate that each player has a minute to express their thoughts, ideas and suspicions.

The Reds need to identify the Black players and eliminate them through voting. And the “Blacks,” in turn, must provide themselves with an ironclad alibi and eliminate sufficient quantity"red" participants. “Blacks” know “who is who”, so they are in a more advantageous position.

The first player starts the discussion and continues around the circle. During the day's discussion, participants can nominate players (each player - no more than one) with the aim of removing them from the game. At the end of the discussion, a vote is taken. The candidate who receives the most votes leaves the game.

The game uses the term "Car Crash". This is the name for a situation in which several players received the same number of votes. In this case, voters are given the right to remain in the game for thirty seconds. They must justify themselves, convince the players that they have nothing to do with the mafia. A re-vote takes place. Since the game is very popular and there are many varieties of the Mafia game, the rules of the game may not provide for such situations.

Then night comes back. The presenter, after the words “The Mafia is starting the hunt,” calls the players’ numbers one by one, and when the whole mafia fires at the same time on a certain number, the player is hit. The rules of the “Mafia” game are such that if one of the mafiosi “shoots” at another number, or does not make a “shot” at all, the Host determines a miss. “Shooting” occurs by simulating a shot. The presenter announces again: “The Mafia is falling asleep.” The players wear masks.

The Presenter then “wakes up” Don, who opens his eyes and tries to identify the Sheriff. He shows a number on his fingers to the Leader, under which, according to his assumptions, the Sheriff is hiding. With a nod of the head, the Presenter either confirms his version or refutes it. Don falls asleep and it’s the Sheriff’s turn to wake up.

The Sheriff wakes up, who also has every right to carry out night checks. He is trying to find "Black" players. After the Leader’s answer, the Sheriff player falls asleep, and then the Leader announces the start of the second day.

This and all subsequent circles are repeated as on the first day. Days and nights will alternate until one team or another wins. It is the victory of one of the teams that ends the game “Mafia”, the rules of which are very simple if you follow them.

What are the features of the “classic” rules of the Mafia game?

In short, the point is to keep the rules simple. Everything is simplified and regulated. In more detail, here are the key features:

1) Exactly 10 people participate in the game: no more no less.

2) There are only two teams in the game: black (mafia) and red (civilians).

There are only 3 mafias, including the mafia boss, who is usually called the Don. There are only 7 civilians, including the Sheriff.

3) No other roles in the spirit of a maniac, doctor, prostitute and the like are not in the game. Only those roles listed above.

4) The roles of killed players are not revealed. That is, the presenter announces all the roles of the players only when the game is completed.

5) During the day, each player has one minute for a monologue. That is, the players speak one after another, one by one. Everyone is not allowed to speak together. If anyone says even one word out of turn, they receive a warning.

6) There are warnings in the game. For 3 warnings, the player is informed that he will not have the opportunity to give a speech at the next opportunity. Simply put, the player will lose his word in the next circle. For the fourth warning, the player will be disqualified from the game.

7) The mafia shoots at civilians with their eyes closed at night.

How does this happen? It's simple: at the very beginning of the game, on zero night, the mafia wakes up in full force and agrees on a strategy for the game. Usually the Mafia Don is just gestures shows in what order the blacks will kill civilians. For example, on the 1st night the mafia will take out player 5, on the second - 6, on the third - 9. After zero night, the first introductory day of the game takes place, on which, usually, no one is excluded from the game. When the first night of the game arrives, the host loudly and clearly begins counting players from 1 to 10. The entire mafia team, sitting with their eyes closed, must simultaneously make a special gesture on player number 5 (after all, it was player five in our example who was ordered as a victim for the first night). In this case, player 5 will be considered killed. If during the leader's countdown, one of the blacks makes a special gesture on a different number of the player than the other mafiosi did, then the player will not be considered killed. That is, the mafia will miss, and no one will be killed.

8.) After shooting the mafia, Don and Sheriff take turns looking for their opponents.

Please note that neither the Don nor the Sheriff kills anyone. The presenter simply states: “The Mafia Don wakes up and shows the number of the player he considers to be the Sheriff.” Don, of course, obediently fulfills the presenter’s request. If he finds it, then the presenter makes it clear with a nod that, “yes, this player is the Sheriff.” Then the Sheriff wakes up and is looking for the blacks (that is, the mafia). Note that the sheriff is looking for the ENTIRE mafia, not just Don. That is, the Sheriff does the same as Don, showing the number of a player. And the presenter also nods to let the Sheriff know whether that player is a mafia or not.

9) When morning comes, the killed player is given the floor.

That is, even if the mafia shot player 1 at night, he will still talk when morning comes. Think of it as the "voiceover" of a suicide note, or the testimony of a dying witness - whatever. But all the players have their say final word before leaving the table.

10) If a player is eliminated from the game, then you need to get up from the table and step aside.

That's pretty too important feature. The person who is taken out of the game must step aside and become a mute spectator with a poker face. If the player remains sitting at the table, then he is left with the impression that he is still playing. Because of this, the player will participate in the game with facial expressions and gestures and may unwittingly harm the opposing team.

The presenter announces: “Who is against player number 9 – we vote!” And the players have 2 seconds (no more) to place their hand with the “OK” gesture (fist with thumb, raised up) on the table. After 2 seconds, the host says “Thank you,” which means the end of voting against this player. If someone puts a vote after the word “Thank you,” then the vote will not be counted. However, players whose votes were not counted are eligible to participate in further voting.

For many people, at the beginning, for some reason, these rules do not seem interesting enough. Often, newcomers, coming to play mafia in English at the English Mafia Club, say something like: “Why is it so difficult for the mafia to shoot when you can just wake up every night?” or “Why don’t they announce the roles of players when they are eliminated from the game?” or “Why isn’t there a maniac and a doctor?”. Usually, these are all questions from players with little experience in intellectual game Mafia.

Only “classics” contributes the largest number various strategies. No other rules of the Mafia game can guarantee such a strong development of logical thinking. Therefore, if you want to not only have a good time playing mafia, but also improve your ability to think logically and strategically, calculating the actions of people and groups several steps ahead, then play the “classics”!

Spending an evening with friends playing board games is a pleasant pastime. Card "mafia" is very popular among big company. But how to play it correctly?

Traditionally, eleven people take part: ten players and a presenter. The latter watches the progress of the game and voices its stages.

At the beginning, players choose one of ten cards. Seven out of ten are “red”, the rest are “black”. Accordingly, seven townspeople and three mafiosi. At the head of the citizens is the Sheriff, at the head of the mafia is the Don.

The gameplay is divided into “day” and “night”. The presenter replaces them, saying the phrases: “Day is coming” or “Night is coming.”

The goal of the game is for the mafia to “kill” the citizens or vice versa.

The game has begun

Ten people sit at a table, each is assigned a number, from 1 to 10. The host announces the onset of night and the participants are blindfolded. Everyone chooses a card, remembers who they will be in the game and puts the card in place, closing their eyes. The host sets aside the card chosen by the player accordingly. And moves on to the next one.

So that the participants do not spy, everyone bows their heads.

After everyone has received their cards, “the mafia wakes up.” The players who received black cards get to know each other. Only on the night of the meeting can the mafia decide in what order the “murders” of citizens will occur. They are not allowed to remove their masks on subsequent nights. Don leads the rest of his team, and it is he who sets the order of the “kills.” During this action, the mafia should not reveal itself, since civilians can catch certain movements nearby. After the words: “the mafia is falling asleep,” the players are blindfolded.

The Sheriff “wakes up” next to meet the presenter. The Sheriff has the opportunity to check the mafiosi during the “night” game. After the introduction, “The Sheriff falls asleep.”

When morning comes, the Leader must say the phrase: “ Good morning. Residents are waking up."

Everyone has the right to speak for one minute. Citizens must identify the mafia, and the mafia must not betray “their own” and remove the citizens.

The player who was assigned the first number begins to discuss first and then in a circle. Players can nominate players who, in their opinion, are mafia. Each person “blames” only one player. At least two candidates must be submitted for the first contest, otherwise voting will not take place. In the following days, there can be any number of accused. The one for whom more votes were given based on the voting results leaves the game. The one who leaves the game has the last word. He has a minute during which he makes excuses or expresses his suspicions. If the player turns out to be a mafia, he must maintain until the last moment that he is an ordinary citizen. When “killing” the Sheriff, he has the right to voice it and talk about his nightly checks. If he has identified the mafia, he has the right to say so.

If during voting several suspects have equal amount votes, then in 30 seconds they must present arguments in their defense, prove that they are peaceful citizens. Then the players vote again. The one voted for by the majority leaves the game.

Then night is declared. The presenter says: “the mafia gets down to business” and lists the game numbers. At the same time, members of the mafia do not remove their bandages; when the number is announced, they raise a “gun”. The player will be "killed" if all the mafia raised their "guns", otherwise the mafia misses. Let us remember that Don and his accomplices agreed on the order of their murders at the very beginning of the game. After this, “the mafia falls asleep.”

"Don is waking up." The head of the mafia is looking for the Sheriff. He selects a player with any number, points to him and the Leader either confirms the theory or refutes it. "Don is falling asleep."

Following the head of the mafia, the Sheriff “wakes up.” He figures out the mafia. He has the right to point to anyone and receive an answer from the Leader. "The Sheriff Falls Asleep"

"The city comes alive." If the mafioso managed to “shoot” a citizen, then the presenter talks about this and gives a minute to the one who dropped out. If everyone is still alive, then the Leader should please the citizens with this news.

On the second day, player number two plays first. Subsequent nights and days pass in a similar manner until one of the teams wins completely.

The townspeople win if all the mafia members are eliminated, otherwise the mafia wins.

Subtleties

If a player has three comments, he does not have the right to speak out during one game day. If more than three warnings are received, the player is eliminated without the opportunity to speak.

The card game "Mafia" is board game for a large company. When playing it, you need to observe other players and draw conclusions based on their behavior, gestures and words. And the mafia will have to try with all its might to mislead naive citizens.

Tabletop card game Mafia is one of the most popular entertainments for a group of friends. This entertainment is available to everyone: any potential player can buy not only entire sets for this entertaining toy with cards and masks, but also visit themed establishments. If you want to know what the rules are and how to learn to play the mafia, this article will help you figure it out.

Purpose of the game Mafia

The goal of each player is to do everything for his team to win. For example, civilians must identify all mafiosi. Players from the opposite group must pretend to be honest citizens and harass all ordinary residents of the city. Any participant has the right to express their suspicions about another player. It is allowed to accuse each other of having connections with bandits and nominate candidates for voting. The accused have the right:

  • accuse other players of having connections with criminals;
  • protect your candidacy from slander.

Voting begins. If all other members of the team or the majority vote against a person, then he is considered killed and his card is turned over. Only after this is the secret revealed - who the “killed” person really was. The plot repeats until all members of the bandit group or honest residents are destroyed. If you don’t know how to learn to play the mafia, then read the description of the cards and roles.

Description of cards and roles

The appointment of a facilitator will ensure monitoring of the game process and compliance with all rules. He distributes mafia cards to all members at his discretion or at random, as a result of which he divides the entire company into two opposing camps. Only he knows which character belongs to which team. He announces the onset of day and night, submits the candidacies of potential mafiosi to a vote.

The goal of all mafiosi, as stated above, is to destroy all members of the other group without exception. It should be noted that there are 3-5 times more civilians than mafiosi, so the latter are given the chance to kill one of the honest people at night. In addition, members of this team have an undeniable advantage: they know all the members of their group by sight. When the leader says: “Night is coming. The mafia is waking up,” all team members open their eyes and decide who they are going to kill. The players must do this without a single sound, using only gestures.

The sheriff wakes up at night when everyone is sleeping. He has the right to point his finger at anyone playing in order to identify a peaceful person or a bandit. If the participant at whom the sheriff pointed his finger is a gaming criminal, then the presenter nods his head positively. If this character does not guess correctly, then the presenter nods negatively. As you understand, the sheriff is at one with honest citizens, and not with bandits. His first priority is to do everything so that after he has identified a bandit, civilians vote for this candidacy.

Nobody needs to know who exactly the sheriff is. If members of the bandit group find out about this, then most likely he will be “removed” immediately. The essence of the sheriff's role is to convince honest residents to vote for the murder of the bandit without incurring suspicion. If the sheriff has a detective mentality, the victory will be for civilians. There are many versions of such entertainment: sometimes the game for the company ends when this character dies. Then the victory is credited to the mafia.

The doctor plays for civilians. He can save both mafiosi and ordinary citizens. When the city wakes up, the doctor must figure out who the bandits will want to “remove” in order to cure this participant. If the doctor fails to do this, then he treats any person at random. The doctor cannot treat the same player two nights in a row, but he can cure himself once.

Civilians

This role is essentially the most dysfunctional. The honest resident is the least knowledgeable. This person sleeps at night, and during the day must actively participate in all discussions with other participants. The role of the "ordinary citizen" is to identify the mafiosi using his logic and intuition. However, under the deft leadership of the bandits, the peaceful citizen will be confused, and at the vote he can vote against the members of his own team.

Additional characters

The lawyer is another minor character in this role-playing tabletop intellectual strategy. The lawyer plays for the mafia and has all the same functions as the sheriff. The only difference is his belonging to the opposing group. A lawyer, like any other participant, can be killed by a maniac. He plays for himself. Every night a fanatic can kill anyone, but a maniac can only win when he is left alone.

A detective is the one who has the right to check a player for belonging to a certain team or simply kill him. Only works at night. When the city falls asleep, the prostitute can wake up too. She points to a specific participant, making it clear who her “client” is. The prostitute can save her client if they want to kill him, but if the prostitute is also killed, the client dies along with her.

What you need to play

Classic rules of the mafia card game

What are the rules of the game and how to play mafia? On the first night, the host's task is to identify all members of the opposing groups. When the mafiosi wake up, he can copy all the names into his notebook, the same goes for civilians and other minor roles. Then, when the city wakes up, the discussion and search for members of the gangster group begins. At this time, the mafiosi are actively involved and plan the victim. Their goal is to declare one of the civilians a bandit. A vote is taken, and the one who is considered a criminal is “killed.”

On the second night, the mafiosi wake up and need to choose a victim. This is done silently. Then the sheriff, the doctor and other characters wake up in turn, each of them performing their own function. If there are a lot of people, it is better for the presenter to write everything down. Before the city wakes up again, the host announces who was killed. If the player is saved, he also reports this. On subsequent nights and days, all actions are repeated until the criminals kill everyone or until the residents transfer all the bandits.

If you often meet with friends and don’t know what to do, then try playing the fun and exciting game “Mafia”. Its rules are very simple, but there are some tricks that will help you win.

How did such a game come about?

The history of the Mafia game, according to researchers, goes back to 1986. Surprisingly, it was invented by a Soviet student at the Faculty of Psychology at Moscow State University, Dmitry Davydov.

At first, the games took place exclusively in university dormitories, but then, when students began to disperse throughout different countries for postgraduate vocational education, they spread throughout Europe, and then they learned about the “Mafia” in other parts of the world.

And now, today it is one of the most popular, and entire tournaments are organized and broadcast on television.

What will you need?

To play “Mafia” in the company of friends, you will need a deck of cards (regular or special, with all the symbols) and the players themselves. Optimal quantity There are eight participants, but there may well be more.

If among your friends there are those whose honesty you doubt, then you will also need masks that do not allow light to pass through, for example, for sleeping. Then everyone will be confident that no one will spy on anyone.

The essence of the game

The rules of the game "Mafia" are very simple. All players are divided into several categories, the most basic of which are civilians and mafia. There are also some other characters in the game, and each of them performs its own specific functions. But in the end, either the mafiosi or civilians must win.

Roles

In different variations of the game "Mafia" there may be different roles. In the very simple version There are only two categories: civilians and mafia. You will also need a presenter who will comment on the progress of the game, monitor compliance with its rules, and also announce intermediate and final results.

So, the roles could be as follows:

  • Civilians. They, in fact, do not perform any functions. Their main task is to find out who the mafia is and is killing innocent citizens.
  • The mafia are the main villains who kill civilians at night. There can be two, three or even more mafiosi, depending on total number players.
  • The Doctor can treat townspeople killed by the mafia.
  • Putana or Fallen Woman is an auxiliary character. This player spends the night with one of the participants in the game and thereby saves him from death if the mafiosi make an attempt on his life.
  • The Commissioner or Policeman keeps order and can arrest murder suspects.
  • Also in some versions there is a maniac. He can take the side of both civilians and the mafia, or simply play for himself and protect his own interests. At night, he strangles people, after which they cannot speak, but communicate using gestures.

Game process

So how do you learn to play? It's quite simple. The entire gameplay is divided into two main phases: day and night. At night, all players perform their main tasks, and during the day, discussion begins.

Main stages of the game:

  1. First, all players draw cards and figure out what roles they will play. If used regular cards, then sixes usually indicate civilians, aces - the mafia. Kings can fit the roles of Commissioner and Doctor. The jack can be a Maniac, and the queen can be a Confusion. It is important that each player sees only his own card, otherwise the meaning of the game is lost.
  2. Then the first day begins. Players can come up with names for themselves, get acquainted, as well as evaluate each other’s behavior and even draw their first conclusions (but they will not be taken into account).
  3. Next comes the first night. Representatives of the mafia are waking up. They open their eyes, get acquainted and make a choice. This concludes the first night, because the remaining characters cannot yet guess who got what roles.
  4. Second day. The host announces who was killed by the mafia. Next, a discussion begins, during which suspects are identified, and the one chosen by vote reveals his card and is automatically eliminated from the game.
  5. The second night will be interesting as all the characters become active. The presenter announces the participants in a certain order, and they perform their direct functions. First, the mafia does its “dirty deeds.” Next, the Doctor comes into play and treats the supposedly injured citizen. Now Putana wakes up and decides with whom she will spend the night. Then it’s the Commissioner’s turn, and he must put in prison the one he suspects of the murders. And then a maniac may wake up, choose a victim and strangle her.
  6. It's day again. The presenter announces the events that happened during the night. If the dead person was saved by the Doctor or Putana, his identity is not made public. If Putana is killed, then her “client” automatically dies. If the Commissioner made a mistake, then the presenter should also not say who he considered the killer, otherwise some cards will be revealed. The person killed is eliminated from the game, then the discussion begins again. But the strangled person does not take part in it, or rather, does not speak, but only gesticulates.

The game continues until either all the mafiosi are killed, or the criminals outnumber the law-abiding citizens.

The discussion can take place in different scenarios. The simplest is a general vote. That is, the players put forward their assumptions, consult with each other, explain their behavior or justify themselves if they are accused. Then everyone votes, and thus it is decided who is the mafia.

Voting may also have some nuances. So, all players can vote in turn, and the leader will count the votes. But candidates can also be nominated one by one, and then the counting will be simpler.

When the main suspect is identified, he can say his last word (this is not always allowed), and if someone has changed his mind, he can change his vote. A candidate can be considered selected if more players or an absolute majority vote for him. Then he reveals the card and is eliminated, and the game continues.

Subtleties and rules of etiquette

To make the game interesting, you need to consider some tips and rules:

  • If the players could not decide on a suspect, and two candidates received an equal number of votes, then the discussion begins again, then the players vote only for the two candidates chosen in the first round.
  • You can only vote for one player.
  • It is forbidden to reveal your role, otherwise the meaning of the game will be lost.
  • Eliminated players must silently and without emotion observe the progress of the game, without betraying the other participants.
  • It is advisable to remove all players from each other so that they do not touch or feel movements at night, this is often confusing.
  • Don't peek, then it will simply be uninteresting to play!
  • If, after dealing the cards, one player finds out the role of the other, then the cards are dealt again.
  • You should not make a bet, swear, or attract religious views or principles. Everyone should be on equal terms.
  • During the game, carefully monitor all players, ask compromising questions and evaluate their answers and reactions.
  • At night, all participants should behave as quietly as possible, since any movements can attract attention and make others suspect not the culprits, but the noisiest players.
  • The presenter must keep his head straight when addressing the players at night so that the participants cannot figure out the roles based on the direction of his voice.
  • What is important is not the victory, but the process itself, because it is exciting and interesting!
  • If you don’t know how to lie, then try to act as calmly as possible. You should probably practice.

Be sure to try playing “Mafia” in a fun company!
