In this article we will look at the most versatile servo drive today, ESBE 99K2, which is shown in the picture, and the ESBE VRG131 valve.
The servomotor is sold with two connection kits, for two different standards of three-way valves with a circular rotating valve for unlimited rotation. More details will be indicated both in the passport and in the video.
It's important to understand:
1. The three-way valve itself contains a ball valve that rotates in a circular manner for unlimited rotation. For work, the valve must be turned clockwise and counterclockwise from 90-180 degrees of rotation.
2. Servo drive is electrical equipment and a device for rotating this ball valve. By rotating the valve, two passages are opened and closed, and the third passage is constantly open. The servo drive, through a temperature sensor, rotates in the desired direction to open or close the feed hotline circulation. More details in the video and in the passport. We also look at how to configure the valve for a specific circuit.
Servo drive ESBE 99K2, advantages:

  • Adjusting the time (1-70 seconds) for checking the temperature sensor and turning on the rotation.

At 90 degrees, it is possible to set the required rotation of the ball valve in real time for testing (press the button and scroll). If a 180 degree rotation is required, the handle is not installed and adjustment cannot be made. And this is of no use, the function is only useful for masters when testing the mixing unit.
Flaw: If there is no power, the valve does not return to any position, but freezes in the position in which it was set automatically.
In general, it is used for large facilities where it is necessary to make a mixing unit with a high flow rate (from 2 cubic meters per hour and above).

Flanged mixing valves Esbe 3F, 4F

Mixing flange valves ESBE 3F, 4F are made of cast iron and are widely used in heating and cooling systems. Esbe 3F valves can be used in closed systems with water that does not contain dissolved oxygen. When the Esbe 3F, 4F valve operates, the hotter coolant is mixed with the cold one entering the boiler, which ensures an increase in the temperature of the coolant returning to the boiler. Esbe series 90 compact reversible actuators are designed to control Esbe control valves of sizes DN 15-150, torque 5-15 Nm. These servo drives are supplied in three versions depending on the type of control signal: 2-point, 3-point or proportional, equipped with limit switches in extreme positions and have the ability to adjust the operating angle in the range of 30–180°. The Esbe 90 electric drive allows you to control the valve in manual mode, and the position is displayed on the indicator disk. In this series, actuators are available with both 24 V and 230 V power supplies and with different opening times. ESBE VLC125 2-way flanged control valves are used to regulate the flow of coolant. Three way mixing valve has a fairly simple device. It consists of a body with two inputs and one output, as well as a specially shaped rod on which a handle (for manual control) or an electric drive (for automatic control of the flow temperature) is installed. The rod is capable of rotating along a vertical axis, blocking to one degree or another the inlet of hot or cold water, due to which a certain flow ratio is created and, as a result, a mixture of a given temperature is obtained at the output. The body material of a three-way valve is most often brass alloy or cast iron. The rod is made of brass, cast iron or stainless steel.

Three way valve control is carried out using an electric drive mounted on the rod, which is supplied separately. The main characteristics of electric drives are: time of rotation of the rod by 90 degrees; the force with which the drive is capable of rotating the rod; electrical voltage and control signal (two-point, three-point, proportional). The electric drive receives a signal from the general building controller, which, based on the readings of various temperature sensors, calculates the position of the three-way valve stem to obtain the specified outlet temperature of the coolant.

Selecting an electric drive for a rotary three-way mixing valve. For coupling mixing valves ESBE actuators of the ARA600 series are used, for flanged cast iron valves - ESBE 90 series. If the valve is to be used as a diverter, the actuator must be with 2-position control. If used as a mixer, then 3-point control or proportional control is required: 0-10V signal. Next, select the desired combination of stem rotation time and valve purpose. For domestic hot water supply, 60 seconds will be enough, and to supply coolant to radiators, electric drives with a rod rotation time of 120 seconds are most often used. Monitor if necessary external equipment depending on the position of the valve (for example, turn off an unnecessary pump, etc.), we determine whether an auxiliary switch is needed. When all the technical characteristics of the electric drive are determined, it will not be difficult to choose from the presented models exactly the one that will perform all the specified functions.

Three-way mixing valves (taps, valves) and actuators ESBE

Esbe three-way valves are usually used as mixing valves, but can be used as switching or separating valves. It is necessary to ensure that the pressure rating, pressure drop and leakage are within acceptable limits. This information given for each valve.
Four-way valves are usually used when a high return coolant temperature is required (usually for solid fuel boilers). In systems with two heat sources or a storage tank, valves will help prioritize the use of an inexpensive heat source while maintaining good temperature separation in the storage tank.

How does Esbe three way valve work?

The required temperature in the heating system is ensured by proportionally adding colder coolant to the hotter coolant flow from the boiler.

How does a four way valve work?

Valves of this type have a double mixing function, that is, the hotter coolant is mixed with the colder coolant supplied to the boiler. This allows you to increase the temperature of the coolant in the return (returning to the boiler) and reduce the risk of low-temperature corrosion, which significantly extends the operating time of the boiler.
