Air temperature regulator for heating boiler. Thermostats for gas heating boilers: tips for choosing and reviews

With the aim of uniform heating of the room and rational consumption of electricity, a special device for a heating boiler - a thermostat - was developed and implemented. The principle of operation of different models of equipment is very similar, but there are also important differences. For example, a heat signal can come to the heat carrier, from sensors that measure the temperature inside the room or outside. In this article, we will talk about the characteristics of popular thermostats for a heating boiler, and find out by what parameters to choose them.

Principle of operation and device

Usually, the operating modes of the heating boiler are regulated by sensors that measure the temperature of the heat carrier. In fact, this is not always convenient, since the regulator, set at a certain temperature of the liquid, gives the boiler a command to turn on if the coolant has cooled down. However, this does not take into account the indoor temperature, which changes at different times of the year. That is, in the spring the batteries will work in the same way as in the winter, while the thermostat, which measures the temperature in the heated room, makes it possible to make the switching on and off of the boiler dependent on these data.

The thermostat is designed in such a way that a temperature sensor is built into it, which is placed in the room where you want to measure the average temperature. This must be done in such a way that the sensor is not affected by heat directly from the battery. Receiving information about the room temperature, the regulator gives commands to the heating boiler.

The device measures the temperature and turns off the heating of the system as needed. When the temperature drops to the set thermostat readings, the boiler starts up again.

Types of thermostats

Determination of the installation location and characteristics of the temperature sensor for the heating boiler must be done at the stage of designing the system. It is necessary to first calculate the parameters of heat supply and, based on these data, make a choice of individual parts of the system.

The thermostat for a heating radiator is no exception. But besides the technical characteristics, it is worth considering the operational qualities:

  • control precision... This quality makes it possible to understand what changes in the temperature of the coolant will lead to the operation of the device;
  • thermostat automation... It helps you understand how often you will need to manually adjust the settings to make the system function normally;
  • additional mode... Almost every model can be configured for daily or weekly cyclic operation - additional settings allow you to work strictly in accordance with the specified parameters;
  • installation features... It is necessary to pay attention to whether it is possible to install the thermostat in any position, since some models are installed strictly in one position.

Let's talk about the most basic types of heating boiler thermostats, their qualities during operation and technical data.

Mechanical device

The easiest way to control the heating of the section of the main line and the radiator is to install a mechanical thermostat for the heating boiler. The design of this option is not particularly complicated - it consists of a shut-off valve and a mechanical control unit.

This thermostat is filled with a coolant fluid, which expands when heated and presses on the stem, which restricts the movement of the coolant in the line. The reduced working diameter of the pipe helps to reduce the heating, which leads to the cooling of the batteries. Mechanical thermostats for heating boilers have several features, and before making a choice, you need to familiarize yourself with them:

  • first of all, you need to calculate the parameters of the heating boiler regulator specifically for your system;
  • the installation of the thermostat on the radiator must be done so that the high temperature does not affect the control element and does not make an incorrect adjustment;
  • installation of the thermostat can be carried out both on the inlet and outlet branch pipes. If it is necessary to control the heating of the radiator, the thermostat is installed in front of it. To restrict the flow of liquid from the battery, cut in the thermostat after the radiator.

Two-way and three-way regulator

These are multifunctional universal devices. The main difference from the mechanical version is the absence of a control component, which depends on the temperature of the coolant.

A mechanical thermometer for a heating boiler is capable of working only in its local area. It cannot take into account the ambient temperature.

Modern automatic valves are free from this drawback due to their design features, servo-mechanism and a special valve.

The servo mechanism can be connected to any external control unit. This role can be played by temperature sensors or special programmers. External data regulates the shut-off valve stem, which is necessary to regulate the fluid flow of a given section of the line in accordance with the specified parameters.

Such valves, in addition to performing the function of a thermostat for a heating boiler, can also be used in other heat supply systems:

  • collector heating. Adjust the coolant to a specific section of the system;
  • warm floor. Are included in the design of the mixing unit.

If you need to install a thermostat in the heating pump, then two and three-way valves are the best option.

Attention ! Two-way and three-way regulators are able not only to regulate the amount of hot water, but also to equalize the hydrodynamic distribution in the line.

Electronic thermostat for heating

To make the heating system autonomous, it is recommended to install an electronic thermostat for the heating boiler. Most often, such thermostats are not installed directly into the pipeline, but are taken out and mounted anywhere in the room.

Simplified designs of room thermostats for a heating boiler are equipped with one remote temperature sensor and a regulating element. It is installed on a certain section of the line, and with its readings it adjusts the operation of the control valve or boiler. But for comfortable and efficient operation, more complex designs of overhead thermostats of the heating system, in which the function of a daily or weekly programmer is added, are suitable.

Before choosing a thermostat for a heating boiler, you should familiarize yourself with the options on the market:

  1. With a timer. This additional option helps to make the heating of the house dependent on the time of day. Such a thermostat is suitable for a small room.
  2. With bimetallic spiral. Hot air acts on the coil, it expands and the contact is closed. As a result, the adjustment mechanism is triggered, and a command is given to the valve to open or close.
  3. Programmable. In this version, the mechanical part of the heating boiler thermostat is complemented by an electronic control unit. This model is convenient for an autonomous heating device.

Attention ! Such a valve can be connected to a boiler, a circulation pump or a radiator servo.

Temperature controllers prices

Making a choice in favor of cheap products does not mean making it right. Moreover, everyone knows that both the maintenance-free operation of boiler equipment and energy savings will depend on the high-quality and correct operation of the units and elements of the heating system. Failure of the thermostat settings will lead not only to breakdowns of the sensitive elements of the circuit, but also to a violation of the microclimate in the room.

The difference in price, as well as the range of thermostats, is very large. Professionals do not recommend buying a thermostat for less than 1,700 rubles, a high-quality element equipped with electronics costs about the same. Well, the cost of more functional, universal models can start from 12,000 rubles.

Efficient heating management is a vital part of the efficient operation of a boiler and home heating system. Proper use of controls will reduce the energy consumption of the unit, while creating a comfortable temperature in every room of the house, avoiding overheating of the premises. A thermostat (or programmer) controls the operation of the boiler depending on the temperature in the room.

Up to 20% of the volume of consumed energy carriers can be saved by using this kind of automation. And the prices for energy carriers are quite high and every normal person wants to reduce his expenses.

We consider the situation when the boiler is calculated correctly, the necessary insulation of the premises has been completed, and the heating system is functioning normally.

Basic types of boilers and temperature control

There are several types of boilers: solid fuel, gas, electric and liquid fuel.

Boilers are widely used all over the world. There are domestic samples, there are boilers and imported ones. The material of manufacture is steel or cast iron. Easy to operate, economical, with the function of adjusting the temperature of the coolant. In cheaper models, this function is implemented using a special device - a thermoelement.

Structurally, a thermoelement is a metal product, the geometric dimensions of which decrease or increase under the influence of temperatures (depending on the degree of heating). And from this, in turn, the position of the special lever changes, which closes and opens the traction flap. The photo shows a sample of such a regulator:

Photo: sample thermostat

The more the damper is open, the stronger the combustion process, and vice versa. Thus, the volume of air that enters the closed-type combustion chamber is completely controlled by the thermostat, and if necessary, its supply is stopped and the combustion process dies out. In more modern models, controllers are installed that, depending on the set thermal conditions, control the air flow, turning on (or off) a special fan (see photo below):

Gas boilers are the most common and cheapest units to operate. Boilers are single-circuit and double-circuit. Single-circuit boilers have one heat exchanger and are intended for heating only. The connection diagram is shown in the figure below:

Single-circuit boiler connection diagram

Double-circuit boilers have two heat exchangers and are designed for heating and receiving hot water. The boiler connection diagram is presented below:

Some boilers have separate regulators for heating and hot water temperatures.

Electric boilers

A fairly common alternative to gas and solid fuel boilers. A lot of advantages, high efficiency, but a long payback period. The connection is simple, like with gas boilers, but without cold water supply. Provided for temperature regulation and overheating protection.

Mechanical boiler timer

Using a simple mechanical timer for an electric boiler there are three options for starting the central heating system:

  1. The boiler is off;
  2. The boiler supplies warm water;
  3. The boiler switches on and off at the set time.

Mechanical timers usually have a large round dial with a 24-hour scale in the center. You can turn the dial to set the desired time and then leave it that way. The boiler will turn on at the right time. The outer part consists of a set of 15-minute period tabs that are inserted for easy adjustment of operation and setting modes. An emergency readjustment is possible, which is carried out when the boiler is connected to the network.

Mechanical timers are easy to set, but at the same time the boiler always turns on and off at the same time every day, and this may not satisfy the owners if the family is large, and bath procedures are carried out several times a day at different times.

Types of thermostats

By the type of functions, they can be divided into several groups:

- with one function (maintaining temperature);

- with a large number of functions (programmable).

By design, thermostats are divided into types: wireless and with wires for communication with the boiler. The thermostats are installed in a convenient place, the temperature sensor is connected, connected to the boiler control system and used.

Room thermostats need a constant supply of air for proper and proper operation, so they should not be covered with curtains or blocked by furniture. Devices adjacent to an electric thermostat can interfere with the correct operation of the device: lamps, televisions, heating devices located nearby.

The programmable electronic room thermostat allows you to select the desired and comfortable temperature at any time, it is easy to reconfigure and change the operating mode. The time timer allows you to set a different pattern for heating on weekdays and weekends. Some timers allow you to set different parameters for each day of the week, this can be useful for people working part-time or in shifts. Many Terneo and KChM models are equipped with such thermostats.

A programmable room thermostat allows you to set individual heating standards for each day in accordance with your lifestyle and maintain the temperature of the house at all times, regardless of the presence or departure of the owners.
Video: Connecting a room thermostat to a gas boiler

If a boiler with a radiator is responsible for the heating system, as a rule, only one programmable room thermostat is needed to control the entire house. Some patterns need to be adjusted in the spring and fall when the clock has moved forward and backward, or a certain change in climatic conditions has occurred. We also recommend changing the temperature settings when changing day and night.

Such a climate controller has several options that expand its capabilities:

  • "Party", which stops heating for several hours, then resumes;
  • "Override" allows you to temporarily change the programmed temperatures during one of the configured periods;
  • "Holiday", increases the intensity of heating or decreases it for a certain number of days.

Central thermostat

Such a thermostat is located far from your boiler and usually allows you to turn heating on or off throughout the house. Older versions are wired to the boiler, newer systems usually send signals to the command center of the device. It is with devices of a new type that rather expensive but effective devices are equipped: double-circuit boilers Ferroli, Beretta and domestic AOGV.

The most famous are room thermostats for a double-circuit boiler of the Gsm and Protherm trademarks. They have a built-in dilatometric thermostat for the boiler, which, depending on the model, can work remotely; this technology is often used for an electric boiler or solid fuel units.

The room thermostat turns off the heating of the system as needed. It works by measuring the air temperature, and turning on the heating when the air temperature drops below the thermostat setting, and turning it off when the set temperature is reached.

Advice:

  1. It is recommended to set the thermostat at 20 ° C;
  2. At night, the set temperature should be between 19-21 ° C.
  3. It is desirable that the children's room is about 22 ° C.
  4. The temperature should not fall below 22 ° C in the premises for the elderly and people with disabilities.

As a rule, only one climate microcontroller in the heating system is based on the temperature of the whole house, or individual rooms. The best option is to place it in the living room or bedroom, which should probably be the most visited place in the house.

Room thermostats need free air flow to measure temperature, so they should not be covered with curtains or blocked by furniture. Devices adjacent to the electrical thermostat may interfere with the correct operation of the device. These include lamps, televisions, neighborhood boilers through the wall, touch switches.

Thermostatic control valves

The thermostatic valve is a simple solution to the problem of obtaining a heat carrier of a given temperature by mixing colder water with warmer water. The three-way valve is shown below:

The thermostatic radiator valve allows you to control the room temperature by changing the flow of hot water through the radiator. They regulate the flow of hot water through the radiator, but do not control the boiler. Such devices must be installed in order to adjust the temperature that is needed in each individual room.

This idea should be considered as a complement to the thermoregulation installation. Also, such devices need periodic readjustment and regular performance checks (every six months during a change in operating modes).

Homemade external thermostat for the boiler: instruction

Below is a diagram of a homemade boiler thermostat device, which is assembled on Atmega-8 and 566 series microcircuits, an LCD display, a photocell and several temperature sensors. Atmega-8 programmable microcircuit and is responsible for compliance with the specified parameters of the thermostat settings.

Strictly speaking, this circuit turns on or off the heating boiler when the outside temperature drops (increases) (U2 sensor), and also performs these actions when the room temperature changes (U1 sensor). Adjustment of the operation of two timers is provided, which allow you to adjust the time of these processes. A piece of a circuit with a photoresistor affects the process of turning on the boiler according to the time of day.

The U1 sensor is located directly in the room, and the U2 sensor is outside. It is connected to the boiler and installed next to it. If necessary, you can add the electrical part of the circuit, which allows you to turn on the shutdown of high-power units:

Another thermostat circuit with one control parameter based on the K561LA7 microcircuit:

The assembled thermostat based on the K651LA7 microcircuit is simple and easy to adjust. Our thermostat is a special thermistor that significantly reduces resistance when heated. This resistor is included in the electricity voltage divider network. Resistor R2 is also located in this circuit, with which we can set the required temperature. Based on this scheme, you can make a thermostat for any boiler: Baksi, Ariston, Evp, Don.

Another circuit for a microcontroller-based thermostat:

The device is assembled on the basis of the PIC16F84A microcontroller. The role of the sensor is performed by a digital thermometer DS18B20. A small relay controls the load. Microswitches set the temperature that is displayed on the indicators. Before assembly, you will need to program the microcontroller. First, erase everything from the chip and then reprogram, and then reassemble and use it to your health. The device is not moody and works fine.

The cost of parts is 300-400 rubles. A similar regulator model costs five times as much.

A few final tips:

  • although different versions of thermostats are suitable for most models, it is still desirable that the thermostat for the boiler and the boiler itself be produced by the same manufacturer, this will greatly simplify the installation and the operation itself;
  • before buying such equipment, you need to calculate the area of the room and the required temperature in order to avoid "downtime" equipment, and change the wiring in connection with the connection of devices of higher power;
  • before installing the equipment, you need to take care of the thermal insulation of the room, otherwise high heat losses will be inevitable, and this is an additional cost item;
  • if you are not sure that you need to purchase expensive equipment, then you can conduct a consumer experiment. Buy a cheaper mechanical thermostat, adjust it and see the result.

The thermostat for the boiler not only saves our money by reducing the volume of gas, but also increases the resource of the equipment. Such a device should definitely be in service, but what should it be?

How does the operation of a gas boiler with a thermostat change?

The variety today is simply amazing. They have many modifications and operate on various types of fuel. But it is very important to ensure the correct control of such units. This will reduce energy consumption, and therefore reduce costs, extend the life of the equipment and achieve an optimal microclimate in each room. All these tasks are within the power of special temperature controllers.

Gas boilers have a cyclic scheme and are turned on after the temperature of the water or other heat carrier drops to a certain value. At the same time, the rate of heating and cooling of water in the system and air in the room is different. Often, the room still has the desired temperature, and the coolant in the system has already cooled down, so the gas boiler burner turns on. This leads to undesirable changes in the microclimate, unnecessary fuel consumption and wear and tear of heating equipment. It is inconvenient to regulate this process manually. By installing a special device, you can avoid such problems.

These fixtures are equipped with a sensor that measures the room temperature. You set its optimal values yourself, and as soon as it gets cooler in the house, the device immediately turns on the pump and starts the gas boiler. After exceeding a preset threshold, the heating equipment is automatically turned off.

What can be a thermostat for a boiler?

Today, the choice of such devices is quite large, you can find wired and remote models, programmable and simple, mechanical or electronic. Depending on the type and number of functions, the cost will differ. Now we will consider the main differences between existing thermostats.

The simplest and cheapest, of course, mechanical models, this is precisely what belongs to their main advantage. Such equipment is simple to operate and relatively easy to repair. And the likelihood of failure is minimized. The more expensive is electronic equipment, which is also very unpretentious.

But programmable temperature controllers are already complex devices. To install them, configure them correctly and change the parameters, you have to tinker a little. However, having done these operations 1-2 times, then you will easily cope with such tasks. They provide more precise control, they have many functions. For example, in some models, you can set the desired temperature in the "day" and "night" mode or program the heating system depending on the days of the week. The remote control is extremely convenient. True, all this will affect the cost of the device.

If you prefer wired thermostats, pay special attention to installation. It is important to ensure uninterrupted communication of the monitoring device with the heating equipment. Wireless regulators provide start-up and shutdown of the gas boiler using a radio signal coming from the control point to the executive. The first is installed in the selected room, and the second directly on the boiler.

Is the sensor difficult to install?

The maximum efficiency of the thermostats for gas boilers is possible only after correct installation. What's so hard about that? Let's go over the instructions.

How to install a thermostat for a gas boiler - step by step diagram

Step 1: Selecting a thermostat

It is desirable that the thermostat is of the same company as the boiler. This will greatly simplify the installation process. If you decide to use wired sensors, then they must be installed before the start of repair work, otherwise you will have to damage the finish in order to lay the cable. It is also imperative to calculate the heated area before buying a device, this will help to avoid equipment downtime.

Step 2: choosing a location

When it comes to remote devices that are installed anywhere, it is important to choose the right room. It is advisable to choose the most visited, for example, a living room. Sometimes it is placed in the coldest room, it all depends on the needs. The sensor must be located in an open area. It should be excluded from cluttering it with furniture, curtains and other household items. Also, placement in the vicinity of electrical and heating appliances is not allowed. It is also undesirable to hit the device with sunlight or drafts. If valves with thermal heads are installed in the room where the controlling sensor of the thermostat is installed, then they must be replaced with ordinary ones, with manual adjustment. Otherwise, they can distort the readings of the device, and the system will not work correctly.

Step 3: Connect

First, you need to carefully read the attached instructions, diagram and act only according to the manufacturer's recommendations. You can connect the device either using the terminal on the gas equipment or by connecting the cable. It all depends on the chosen model. The control element must be located at a height of 1.5 meters from the floor and on the inner wall. This is due to the fact that warm air is at the top, cold air, on the contrary, is concentrated at the bottom, and the outer walls are colder. Before connecting, be sure to de-energize the object, and then connect zero, phase and ground.

Step 4: setup

Now you need to set the required parameters. Usually there are buttons on the front panel of the device, with their help, the necessary settings are made. In this case, the technical documentation of the device will again come in handy, which describes the programming process in detail. The step and the heating temperature are set. There is also a function to delay the operation of the thermostat. For example, in case of short-term drafts, the device detects them and does not turn on. More expensive models may have a number of other options.

.

If you doubt whether you need to purchase expensive equipment, then you can always experience the effect on cheaper and simpler mechanical models. Avoid downtime of the device and change the batteries in time.

By installing an automatic thermostat, the user hopes to save energy spent on heating an apartment or private house. True, the purchase and installation of a device sometimes gives the opposite result - the consumption of gas or electricity increases. Therefore, we propose to clarify a number of points: how a room thermostat for a gas boiler works, types of temperature regulators, methods of connection and correct settings.

Briefly about the principle of work

For a better understanding of the principle of operation of room thermostats, we first explain the operation algorithm of a hot water boiler in the basic configuration:

  1. The user ignites the heater, using buttons or control knobs sets the desired temperature of the heat carrier.
  2. Each device is equipped with an immersion or contact sensor that informs the control unit about the degree of water heating. When the temperature of the coolant reaches a predetermined threshold, the gas valve is triggered and shuts off the fuel supply to the main burner. The circulation pump continues to pump water through the system.
  3. After the coolant cools down to the lower temperature limit, the gas supply resumes, the burner ignites again and heats up the water.

Reference. In turbocharged wood-fired boilers, the automatic turns off the blower fan. The intake of air and the combustion process in the furnace is suspended, the unit goes into standby mode.

The scheme of operation of a heating boiler with a remote thermostat - the automation stops and starts the burner depending on the air temperature, not the coolant

Without an external temperature sensor, the heater “does not see” the air temperature in the premises and stupidly heats the water up to the specified limit. Result: in the transitional autumn-spring period, the so-called cycling is observed - frequent start / stop of the burner (once every 2-3 minutes), which reduces the resource of the unit as a whole.

Now about the main thing. The remote thermostat extends the intervals between turning on / off the gas boiler, since it is guided by the temperature of the air, which cools down more slowly. The device is switched on in the open circuit of the power supply of the gas valve (on TT-boilers - turbines) and the built-in pump.

Installing an automatic thermostat allows you to kill three birds with one stone:

  • reduce energy consumption;
  • make boiler control more convenient;
  • extend the life of the heat source.

Important note. The items listed above apply not only to. Any heat generator equipped with an electronic or electrical control unit is connected to the thermostat: solid fuel, diesel, electric boiler, and so on.

The wood-fired boiler automation unit has a thermostat connector

When the room warms up to the specified temperature, the thermostat breaks the circuit, the burner and the built-in pump of the heat generator stop. The unit starts up after cooling the air by 1-2 degrees, which increases the duration of the interval between shutdown and ignition up to 15-20 minutes.

Let's note 2 significant nuances:

  1. When using a room regulator, the standard start / stop function based on the water temperature in the boiler jacket continues to operate. When the coolant in the boiler heats up to the set limit, the gas burner will turn off.
  2. If the burner is extinguished by the command of the internal temperature sensor, the standard circulation pump continues to work. When the remote thermostat is triggered, both devices stop - the burner and the pump unit.

That is why it is important to correctly set up the connection between the boiler and the external thermostat.

Types of room regulators

For automatic regulation of the boiler combustion according to the room air temperature, 2 types of thermostats are used:

  1. Mechanical. The breaking and closing of the electrical circuit is produced by a bimetallic plate, bending from heating. To change the desired temperature, the user rotates a knob that increases or decreases the gap between the plate and the second contact.
  2. Electronic (digital). Here, the role of a heat-sensitive element is played by a thermistor, which changes the resistance depending on temperature. The circuit, which includes the specified part, closes the relay contacts, guided by the change in resistance and user settings.

Reference. Mechanical and electronic temperature sensors are used not only for the boiler. Thermostats are successfully used in other areas of the heating system, for example, to turn off a separate radiator branch or for zone control.

The device of the simplest mechanical temperature controller

The mechanical device is connected to the heat generator via a cable. Most electronic models provide wireless connectivity. According to reviews, radio-controlled thermostats are gaining wide popularity due to their ease of installation and operation. How the wireless boiler thermostat works:

  1. The device consists of two units equipped with radio modules.
  2. The first block, which turns on the executive relay, is placed directly next to the heater and connected to the required connector. Power supply - from the house 220 volt electrical network.
  3. The second unit with a display and control buttons is powered by batteries and installed in a convenient place in the home.
  4. A thermal sensor located inside the remote control reacts to the temperature of the air environment. At the right time, the radio module sends signals to the first unit to turn on / off the boiler. He opens the relay contacts, heating and circulation of the coolant stops or resumes.

Wireless thermostats consist of 2 blocks that exchange radio signals

Usually, electronic models are equipped with programmers that allow you to set the boiler operation schedule for a week. The room temperature can be changed several times during the day. Individual copies are programmed for 90 days and controlled via mobile communication, for example, via SMS or the Internet application of a smartphone.

Which thermostat is better to choose

To make the right choice of a room regulator, we propose to consider the pros and cons of two types of household appliances. Disadvantages of mechanical models:

  • low accuracy of the maintained temperature;
  • wired connection - the cable will have to be pulled from the boiler room to the desired room;
  • lack of various convenient functions available in the programmers.

Note. Judging by the reviews of real owners on the forums, the accuracy of maintaining the temperature is not a critical issue and does not bother users too much. Another thing is the wires that need to be hidden under the baseboards, in the grooves of the walls, and so on.

There are also three obvious advantages of bimetallic thermostats:

  • low price and availability;
  • reliability in work - in the simplest models there is nothing to break;
  • simplicity of boiler control with one handle, which is important for elderly homeowners.

The negative aspects of electronic regulators are the higher price, not always clear interface and the need for timely replacement of batteries. Cheap Chinese models have an additional problem - communication failure with the relay unit when the control panel is installed behind 1-2 partitions.

An unconditional plus of digital thermostats is comfortable operation. It is enough to lay down the weekly and daily program of the heat generator once, no more action is required.

In wireless programmers, you need to change the batteries on time

We list a typical set of functions using the example of the Baxi Magic Plus thermostat:

  • temperature control range - 5 ... 35 ° С;
  • protection against freezing of the heating system, by default it starts the boiler when the dwelling cools down to +3 degrees;
  • Backlit LCD display, push-button control;
  • shift of the temperature sensor readings ± 5 ° С (for an explanation, see the next section of the publication);
  • 2 operating modes - economical and comfortable;
  • hour / daily / weekly programmer.

Reference. Manufacturers often refer to such devices as digital chronothermostats. The weak point of the devices is their low maintainability in the event of a breakdown, especially for Chinese products, for which it is not easy to find spare parts.

Knowing the features of electronic and mechanical regulators, it is not difficult to choose the right model. Focusing on your budget, first of all consider reliable products from European, Japanese and Korean manufacturers. Among the "Chinese" there are also decent brands, but on average the quality of the products leaves much to be desired.

Installing and connecting the device

The installation of a household regulator consists of two stages - fastening in a convenient place and connecting to a gas (solid fuel) boiler. In order for the thermostat to record the temperature without deviations, position the regulating element according to the recommendations:

Advice. For a private house with underfloor heating, it is worth buying a thermostat model equipped with an additional temperature sensor. The latter is placed above the floor surface and measures the temperature in the lower area of the room.

After fixing the device on the wall, according to the manufacturer's instructions, lay the wire to the heat source in a hidden or open way (if there is a wired connection). How to connect the regulator to the boiler:

  1. Connect one end of the control cable to the terminals marked COM (common) and NO (normally open) of the thermostat. On the wireless version, these terminals are located in the relay box.
  2. In the operating instructions for the heat generator, find the connection diagram for the external thermostat, the marking and the location of the contacts.
  3. Remove or fold down the front panel of the gas heater, which covers access to the control board and connectors.
  4. Remove the jumper inserted between the terminals indicated in the passport. Do not throw away the part, you may need it later.
  5. Connect the wires from the regulator contacts to the freed terminals. You do not need to observe the polarity.
  6. When installing a wireless thermostat, run a three-wire 220 V power cable with a ground wire to the relay box.

Advice. If numbers or incomprehensible letters are printed on the contacts of your device instead of the indicated marking, find the 2 required terminals using a tester (the circuit between them must be open). There are three contacts in total, the COM and NC pair are initially closed, as shown in the diagram above.

Details of installing a wireless thermostat are shown in the video:

Non-volatile floor standing boilers equipped with 630 SIT, 710 MiniSIT, SABK, Orion and the like are incompatible with remote controls. The reason is the completely mechanical design of the gas valve and the absence of electrical circuits where a relay-breaker can be connected.

Connection diagram of the regulator to the SIT 820 NOVA valve

The exception is gas heat generators equipped with Kare automatics and the latest generation of Italian valves EuroSIT - 820 NOVA. These blocks are provided with solenoid valves and special contacts for connecting external thermostats of two types - mechanical and digital.

A solenoid valve is used in the "Kare" automatics, where the thermostat is connected.

Setting procedure

To set up the system and select a comfortable temperature, follow these steps:

  1. Set the maximum temperature with the remote control.
  2. Start up the boiler and bring it to the optimal operating mode, in which the unit reaches the highest efficiency.
  3. When comfortable warmth is established in all rooms, take an electronic thermometer and measure the temperature near your regulator.
  4. Select the measured value on the thermostat as the heater shutdown threshold. Put the required settings in the programmer.

An important clarification. The gas boiler operates with maximum efficiency at a temperature of 80/60 ° C (supply / return).

Let's explain the purpose of the listed manipulations. Due to different areas and heat losses, the temperature in the rooms can differ by 1-3 degrees, so it is better to navigate by the degree of heating of the air near the sensor itself.

If the temperature at the point of installation of the regulator is very different from the rest of the rooms, when adjusting, you need to make an allowance for the value of this difference. Some models, for example, Baxi Magic Plus, provide a function for such a correction (called temperature shift). Then it remains only to enter the required value into the device's memory, ranging from 1 to 5 degrees.

When does the thermostat not save gas?

There are many reviews of this kind on the Internet: “I took the sellers' assurances about saving 30%, bought and installed a temperature regulator, now the boiler consumes more gas. Why is he needed at all? " Let's see how this device saves energy (not only gas, but also solid fuel, diesel fuel and electricity):

  1. The interval between starts of the heat generator is increased. The reason is that the cooling and heating of the air is slower than the water in the batteries.
  2. Together with the burner, the circulation pump is turned off, which consumes up to 100 W of electricity. B stops the fan (turbocharger or exhaust fan).
  3. The premises are fully heated at the right time when the residents are at home. The rest of the hours are kept at a reasonable temperature. It is recommended to reduce heating at night - for a comfortable sleep, it is enough to heat the rooms at the level of 18-19 ° С.

Explanation. Reasonably acceptable is the temperature at which the boiler will quickly warm up the rooms to a comfortable level without much energy consumption. Determined empirically and lies within 15-18 degrees.

Now let us consider situations when, instead of saving, there is an increased consumption or deterioration in heating:

  1. The boiler is set to the minimum temperature of the heating medium (40-45 ° C), because the underfloor heating circuits are directly connected. The heater operates with low efficiency, the gas consumption does not decrease.
  2. When the dwelling is heated exclusively with warm floors, and the thermostat does not measure in the lower zone of the room. The screed and the air heats up slowly; when the sensor is triggered, the floors become too hot. On cooling, the opposite picture is observed.
  3. The heat loss of the building is too high. No thermostats will help here, insulation is required.
  4. The connection between the temperature sensor and the boiler is incorrectly configured, the hysteresis is incorrectly selected (the temperature difference between the start and stop of the heat generator).

Each thermostat has a temperature difference between turning off and turning on the boiler. The value can be changed within 0.5-2 degrees. If the maximum hysteresis is selected, and the house is heated with underfloor heating, the temperature difference in the air will increase greatly, staying in the room will become uncomfortable, and the heat generator will consume more fuel for heating.

Conclusion

According to the assurances of sellers, thermostats for gas boilers reduce the consumption of blue fuel by 25-50%. The figures are somewhat overestimated in order to sell heating equipment to the user. In practice, the amount of savings falls within the range of 10-25%, depending on many conditions. But with the current tariffs and energy prices, 10 percent will have a tangible effect, therefore thermostats are definitely recommended for use.

Autonomous heating is considered the most preferred option for owners of private houses. Allows you to independently heat the room if necessary, does not depend on the schedule adopted in all settlements. Several years ago, a thermostat for a heating boiler was added to such a system, which regulates the operation of the device by monitoring the temperature in the room.

    General information

    A temperature regulator for a heating boiler has been used not so long ago. Several years ago, devices were not so popular, because special thermostats were built into heating boilers, which controlled the heating level inside the system. The owner sets a certain temperature and the sensor reacts when the mark falls below the set level.

    After that, the boiler turns on and again heats up the entire system to the desired value. However, it should be borne in mind that such a thermostat does not track the temperature in the room. Even if the rooms are rather stuffy, the heater will work if the indicators in the system are below the required level. As a result, there is an excessive consumption of fuel or electricity at any time of the year.

    How to connect a thermostat to a gas boiler! Detailed instructions!

    The water in the system cools down rather quickly and heats up quickly as well. The boiler turns on and off many times throughout the day. Over the course of several years, the entire system wears out and requires repair. If a special thermostat is built into the device, it clearly monitors any changes that raise or lower the temperature in the room. If it is kept at the required level, the heating is turned off. This allows you to save money and maintain a comfortable microclimate.

    In European countries, the connection of such a device is considered mandatory, since the local population pays special attention to saving on utilities. On the territory of Russia and the countries of the former CIS, such an innovation has not yet fully taken root, but is gradually gaining popularity.

    Today, many manufacturers offer a wide selection of accessories for solid fuel, gas and electric heating devices, so a person has the opportunity to choose the best option.

    Principle of operation

    The action and effectiveness of any thermal sensor for a heating boiler is based on its design. A standard device has several parts, which carry out thermoregulation:

    Thanks to a simple system, the temperature regime is constantly monitored and maintained at an optimal level.

    Sensors can be remote, built-in, digital. They have different settings depending on the selected model and price category.

    Main advantages

    This type of equipment has many advantages. Saving is considered the most important for many owners of autonomous heating. If you make a calculation in a few months, it will become clear that a boiler with such equipment works 30% less than without it. These figures are correct when using a gas or solid fuel type. If the room is heated using diesel fuel, the savings are 50%. The device also has other advantages:

    Due to the advantages of this design, it is gaining popularity among owners of an autonomous heating system.

    Varieties of devices

    Today, there are several types of thermostats for heating boilers on the market with different functions, installation method and price. The most popular are mechanical, electronic, wireless and programmers.

    Connecting a room thermostat or boiler programmer.

    Mechanical models are the easiest to install and operate. They differ in affordable cost, which makes them in demand. As a rule, devices are installed on boilers operating with solid fuel, but this does not exclude the possibility of using it for gas equipment.

    The design may be based on a bellows filled with liquid gas, or a special plate that bends or straightens when the temperature changes, thereby turning the device on or off. An important advantage of such models is considered resistance to voltage surges, low cost, ease of setup and the possibility of repair in case of breakdown.

    However, the design also has disadvantages. You will have to set the mode manually, and its accuracy cannot always be predicted. Typically, the temperature differs from the setting by 2-3 degrees. It is worth noting that if the weather conditions change, you will have to set up the device again, since it does not react so quickly to them. A significant disadvantage is that the thermostat does not have the ability to set a program for several days in advance, as well as adjust the indicators depending on the time of day. Despite all the shortcomings, the device is used everywhere and has a long service life and reliability.

    Electronic models

    If the owner of a house or apartment wants to fully automate the system, the best option for him would be to install an electronic thermostat. As a rule, such devices consist of a portable sensor and a special control center with a relay, which is responsible for the operation of the boiler. The device can be installed in solid fuel models, electric and gas.

    A device with a timer and the ability to regulate the temperature taking into account the time of day and days of the week is suitable for gas, solid fuel boilers. This option is especially relevant for those who are constantly at work during the daytime, it allows you to set a minimum temperature and increase it by the time the inhabitants return.

    If the boiler is electric, the best option is a model with a bimetallic plate that reacts to the slightest fluctuations in temperature. Any electrical appliance has many advantages. The most significant is the ability to remotely control, which allows you to always change the settings if the room is uncomfortable. In addition, the device can be mounted in any room. It reacts very quickly to changes in temperature conditions, and when adjusted, the deviation from the set indicator rarely exceeds 0.5 degrees.

    The main disadvantage is the rather high cost of equipment. However, considering all the features and saving energy or fuel, this would be a bargain.

    Advanced programmers

    These models are considered the most effective, have many functions: temperature control by the hour, by the day of the week, by the time of day with the ability to program a week in advance. The devices are equipped with a liquid crystal display, built-in wi-fi module. This allows you to configure them even from a long distance using your phone or tablet, provided you have high-speed Internet access.

    Thanks to this function, a person can control the heating system from anywhere. There are models equipped with trays for SIM cards. Installing a special program will facilitate the remote control process.

    There are different options for programmers for solid fuel, electric and gas boilers. The main disadvantage is considered to be high cost, but economy and versatility can easily compensate for this disadvantage.

    Wireless devices are in two parts. The working one is installed in the immediate vicinity of the boiler and is connected to it using special cables. The room sensor is either a liquid crystal display or a simple screen with push buttons. Depending on the additional functions, the cost of the device also differs.

    Both parts interact through a special radio channel, the waves of which do not affect electrical appliances in the house. The thermostats themselves can be simple and inexpensive, but they will have only two functions - turning on and off the boiler depending on the set temperature. There are rules that must be observed POER thermostat Wi-Fi programmer

    First step- installation of that part of the thermostat, which will be located in the immediate vicinity of the heater. For this, the device has special wires. After that, it is necessary to connect the sensor to the working part. If the device is wireless, this is not required.

    An important point is the configuration of the sensor itself. To do this, it is necessary at maximum power, wait until the temperature in the room where the thermostat is installed becomes comfortable. After that, measure the indicator near the device with a thermometer. It is this level that will be the maximum value that will give a signal to turn off the boiler.

    Next, you should set the parameters, configure the hours and days of the week in which it is necessary to maintain the temperature regime, if required. If the device does not have this function, the work is finished. If all the rules are followed, the device will become a faithful assistant.

    Valuable devices that allow you not only to maintain an optimal indoor climate, but also to save fuel, energy and owner funds.
