How to make from old tires swan. How to cut a swan from a tire: a step-by-step instruction for a garden product

For many Russians, the summer cottage is not only a place where vegetables and fruits grow, but also a recreation area for body and soul. Ornamental ponds, garden gnomes, flower beds with flowers, footpaths and more - there are a huge number of ways to decorate the garden. Recently, crafts from waste products such as plastic bottles and old car tires have become popular. There are many advantages to giving a second life to those who have served their life. Step-by-step instructions on how to cut a beautiful swan out of a tire yourself will help you make such an article!

  • First, it is environmentally friendly, because things will not rot for centuries in a landfill, polluting the environment.
  • Secondly, it is always pleasant to create comfort and decoration with your own hands.
  • Thirdly, it is profitable, such decorations will require a minimum of financial investments, because every motorist will wear tires. Of these, you can come up with a lot of decorations for the garden: these are small flower beds, barriers, artificial ponds and much more. Popularity is also gaining figures of animals and birds, carved from a tire. If you also decide to decorate your garden plot, read a master class.

How to cut a swan from a tire with step by step instructions

To cut a swan out of a tire, you must:
  • Worn car tire
  • Saw saw
  • Jigsaw
  • Thick wire, rod or steel plate
  • White and red exterior paints
  • It is necessary to work on the street, as the rubber heats up from the grinder, and this causes a strong smell of burning
  • Be sure to work in tight gloves or gloves
  • Feet should be in closed shoes.

Getting Started - step by step instructions on how to cut a swan from an old wheel

To work, you must choose the oldest tire, as thin as possible and, as they say, bald. The more worn tires, the easier it will work with her. If there is a choice, then it is better to give preference to a tire with a nylon or nylon cord, rather than a steel one. To do this, the tire itself should not be marked “steel”. The latter are difficult to cut, and they are also traumatic both during operation and during further use: it is better not to put such a bird on the playground, in order to avoid cuts in children.

First you need to draw on the tire "pattern" of the future swan. In the middle, mark a point and draw a beak from it, smoothly turning into the bird's head and neck. When working with a tire R13 having a circumference of 1.8 m, the dimensions are approximately the following: the length of the beak is 8-9 cm, the head is 9-10 in length and 7-8 cm wide. The neck at the beginning is 4-5 cm wide and closer to the body thickens up to 8-10 cm. Its length is about 75-80 centimeters.

The body of the swan must remain untouched, and it should not be cut: in this part the wings and the neck are connected with the head.

Swan Cut Out:

After drawing the swan from the wheel, the cutting process begins. Grinder cut quickly, but from this rubber is heated and there is a strong smell of burning and soot. Therefore, many craftsmen prefer to make with the help of the same grinder, drill or chisel notch for the jigsaw blade, and continue to cut it out for them. It is convenient to use a blade with a reverse tooth at low revs. So the material will heat up less, there will be no soot, and control over the process is better because of the low speed of work.

It will be correct not to cut out one side completely and then the other, but to make small cuts on both sides, one after the other. It is much more convenient to work, the rubber is not so arched, moreover the probability that it will turn out symmetrically increases.

Next, you need to turn the workpiece. It is short-lived, but quite hard physically. To do this, you must put the cut part to the ground, press down with your foot and pull up the resulting wings. As a result, it should turn out approximately as in the photo.

After that, you should fix the shape of the neck. For this it is necessary to make holes in it in pairs at a distance of 15 cm from each other and insert soft wire brackets into them. With their help, attach a rod or steel plate to the bird's neck from above. Further detail to bend, so that it resembled the neck of a swan.

After cutting and shaping the swan, all that remains is to install the figurine in the chosen area and decorate it. It will be nice to make not one bird, but a couple at once. Body painted with white paint, and the beak - red. Draw eyes or shape them from buttons, stones, pieces of rubber.

You can also make a stand from another tire lying on its side. An artificial reservoir or its imitation, for example, from stones will look very handy.

In addition to the swan, you can make other crafts with your own hands from tires. For this you need only a little imagination and time.

Swans have long chosen for themselves not only ponds and lakes, more and more often they are found on home gardens. On the green lawns you can see whole swan packs made of tires of car tires. Designers called this direction thrash art (from the English. Trash-art) - art, which involves the old stuff.

The name is new, but the idea to create beauty from waste appeared long ago. Uncommon miracle birds have already decorated more than one yard or garden. If you like this art, we offer you to get acquainted with the technology of manufacturing swans in more detail.

How to make a swan from a car tire

Beauty on the site can be made from scrap materials, but we must understand that this is work, not pampering. In order for the miraculous tire swans to bloom in the garden, you will need:

  • Old tires;
  • Electric jigsaw or grinder (Bulgarian);
  • Electric drill;
  • Nippers, pliers;
  • Chalk markup;
  • Metal rod;
  • Paint.

What tires to choose

Old, well-worn tires from passenger cars are suitable for swans. And the tires should be as worn as possible, worn out to the limit. Such tires are called bald. The worse the material looks, the easier it is to work with it. Do not take studded tires, especially imported.

If you can choose, it is better to take rubber with a nylon cord.  Such material can be cut just with a knife. Tires with a metal cord are more difficult to handle, in this case special tools are indispensable.

Alternatively, in search of suitable materials, you can contact the nearest tire service. Usually, in such places gladly give away unnecessary tires. One swan needs one tire. If you want to experiment with the shape of birds - take a few. Before starting work, the rubber must be washed and dried. All work is best done outdoors.

The layout of the scheme on the tire and cutting

The appearance of the swan depends on the layout. In the process, the tire will need to be turned out. The complexity of this process will depend on how you make the cuts.

How to make a birdhouse with his own hands, told.

Step-by-step instructions for making a swan with your own hands:

The marking of the tire, for the manufacture of the garden swan.

With the help of chalk you need to divide the tire in half. Then chart the beak, head and neck. The length of the neck along with the beak should be more than half the length of the tire circumference.  The wheel R13 has a circumference of 180 cm, respectively, about 95 cm should be measured for the neck. For a proportional head, 10 cm is needed, the length of the beak is 9 cm.

  • The tire must be cut along the marked lines. With old tires with a nylon cord handle knife. In order to facilitate the work, prepare a soap solution and dip the cutting object into it from time to time.
  • Metal cord knife does not succumb. You can use the grinding machine. You need to work exclusively outdoors, and do not forget about closed shoes and working gloves.
  • Consider that working with rubber increases the consumption of circles. It will take about 3 discs per swan. In addition, the heated rubber does not distribute the best smell around, soot and soot are provided to you. Bulgarian cuts quickly, but not environmentally friendly.
  • Jigsaw work more pleasant. For the sawing plant you need to make a hole. You can use a chisel or drill. Worn jigsaw saw blades increase from work at high revs. The best option is to work at below average speeds using a file with a reverse tooth. So you can easily saw through the metal cord: the reverse of the file will simply break it, and a small speed will not allow the rubber to get very hot.
  • For the adherents of hand tools suitable file for metal. She will also cope with the steel cord, but the speed will be lower. What are the tracks from the cork from plastic bottles, set out.
  • Cut the tire to the contour of the neck and head, transverse cuts are not needed. As for the sequence, the worst mistake that beginners make is to completely cut one side of the neck. If you cut the tire with one hand, then the second cut will be quite difficult.

  • The next stage is the tail. Its length is about 25 cm. It will become an additional decorative element and will make turning the tire easier. Cut it out likewise.
  • The workpiece must be turned out. The process is time consuming and looks like this: the workpiece is put with the cut part down, it is pressed down with the foot and pulled, turning the side parts up. The central part needs to push through.
  • Now the design really looks like a swan. Side semiring must be lowered down. If you took a tire tire with a steel cord, then the edges need to be grinded. But even such a procedure will not be able to completely smooth the sticking out reinforcement. Therefore, swans made of tires with steel cord are suitable only for decoration, but not for children's playgrounds. Touching the cuts with protruding wire are unsafe for adults, what to say about children. In more detail about crafts from tires for a playground, learn.
  • In order to give the swan the desired shape, it is necessary to strengthen the neck. For fasteners, you need to drill two holes every 15 to 20 cm along the entire length of the neck. They should be positioned along the center line. Brackets are inserted into the holes from a thin soft wire. Brackets need to fasten a thick steel wire. It will need about 1.50 m. The lower end is fixed on the inner side of the neck, at the base of the tire, the upper end - at the level of the head.
  • Swan is almost ready, you only need to bend his neck properly and make eyes out of rubber. They can be fastened with screws. For decoration, the edges of the wings are incised; then the notches resemble bird plumage. If you want to have a swan princess in your garden, make a crown out of a plastic bottle.

Coloring Sculpture Tires

In order for the birds to look extraordinary and aesthetically pleasing, they need to be painted correctly. For swans, they usually choose white or black. Good looking silver and gold sculptures. Any sustainable paint for exterior work.

Rubber is well painted with oil, enamel and nitrokraska.  Do not forget that any paint is applied to a clean, dry surface. Properly applied paint fits well on the sculpture, does not deform and lasts for a long time. Leftover automotive paint aerosols will do. Then the work will go quickly. An evenly painted surface can be decorated with acrylic paints. Draw the head, beak, plumage. Such swans look more naturalistic.

If in your garage old auto tires are lying around, do not rush to throw them away. Of course, you can’t ride with such tires, but you can make interesting decorations for them for the yard and garden. For example, it may be the figure of swans with outstretched wings.

What materials and tools are needed to make a swan out of a tire?

It is very important to choose the "correct" tire for work. I recommend to take the one that is completely “bald” during operation: it is better amenable to cutting and processing. For the same reason, it is better to take a tire with a longitudinal pattern. Another tip: it’s better to stop the choice on tires with a cord (a rubberized fabric layer made from textile, polymer or metal threads) made of nylon, and not with steel cord reinforcement (breaker). Reinforced products are heavily trimmed, and in the place of the cut, the edges of the cord may stick up, which you may get hurt when working. These tires have the word "Steel" in the label, respectively, it is not in the tire with nylon reinforcement.

Carefully consider the choice of tires to work with them conveniently and not traumatic.

Wash thoroughly and dry the selected tires. In addition to them, you will need to work:

  • chalk for marking;
  • roulette;
  • electric drill;
  • drills 3 and 10 mm in diameter;
  • a sharp knife (with a powerful shoemaker-like blade);
  • jigsaw;
  • "Bulgarian" with a cutting disc;
  • pliers;
  • wire for staples;
  • plastic metal rod (or thick wire) 1.2–1.5 meters long;
  • paint to give the finished swan the desired color.

In addition, you need to draw a scheme by which you will cut a swan. You can use a very simple form to get a small flower bed.

You can make a small flower bed in the form of a swan using a simple scheme.

When working with this scheme, it is enough to make cuts along the lines:

  • head and neck;
  • tail;
  • feathers on the wings.

After that, you need to turn the tire inside out, attach the halves of the head to each other and put the beak between them from a piece of plastic. Fix the form with screws and paint in suitable colors. You will have a small round flowerbed.

In a simple bed of tires, you can plant any low-growing flowers

A bit more complex in execution, but very beautiful will be the original figure-decoration in the form of a swan spreading its wings.

The process of creating a swan from tires

First you need to mark the tire with chalk. Take a tire brand R13. Its width is 165 mm, the length along the circumference is 1800 mm.

Product Marking

Mark the product as follows:

  1. At the beginning of work, apply 2 strips dividing the tire circumference in half lengthwise. So you mark the "neck" of a swan.
  2. Then draw the “beak”, “head” and “neck” tires in turns on the tread (outer) side of the tire. From the first line, draw a symmetrical “beak” with dimensions: length - 8–9 cm, width - 3–4 cm. It should go into the “head”, the parameters of which are as follows: 10–12 cm - length, 7–8 cm - width, from the end of this "part of the body" you need to mark the "neck", extending to the body. Its width at the beginning is 4–5 cm, at the end it is 8–10 cm.
  3. Lastly mark the “tail”. Its fork is located on the place where the "beak" begins. Draw two parallel lines at a distance of 8 cm from each other and up to 30 cm in length.

The process of creating a swan from a tire begins with tire marking

Cutting process

Now proceed to cutting:

  1. Cut from the base of the “neck” towards the “head”. A shoe knife will surely cope with a very worn tire, and a tighter tread (tire element) is better for cutting with a grinder. If you have a fairly powerful jigsaw, use it after you make the initial holes with the grinder.
  2. Cut parallel to both sides in small intervals of 4–5 cm. It is much more convenient than cutting one side first and then the other side.
  3. When cutting is completed, process all the edges of the resulting parts. In the presence of a metal cord in the tread cut off the protruding wire with a grinder. For nylon cord, it is enough to handle the edges with a sharp knife.

Remember the safety rules! Be sure to wear gloves and use special glasses.

How to unscrew the tire and bend the "neck"

To cut the tire took the desired shape, turn it inside out. To cope with this is easy.   To facilitate the task, fix the tire with the foot on the outside of the rim.  The frame is ready. Now you need to fix the neck and head. To do this, you will need a steel bar, to which the neck part will be attached. Perform the following actions:

  1. Along the center line from the middle of the “head” to the base of the “tail”, drill a pair of drill holes. Their diameter should be 3 mm, the intervals between them - 15 cm.
  2. Prepare wire clips by the number of pairs of holes. They will attach the "neck" to the metal rod. Immediately insert them into the holes.
  3. Lay the rod from the bottom, with pliers twist the protruding edges of the brackets around it. Cut off the excess and give the "neck" a characteristic bend.

Instead of a rod, you can use a steel strip. Some masters, it seems much more convenient. In this case, use bolts or rivets for joining, not brackets.

The neck of a swan from a tire is fixed with a metal rod attached to the tire with wire straps

Dressing and installation

Check again whether there are sharp edges or protruding wires on the swan figure. If there are such, clean them.

Paint the figure in white or black color, characteristic of swans. You can use a different shade or even cover the figure with fancy patterns. It is important that the paint is resistant to wind and moisture. Make the beak red, and where the eyes should be, screw in the large bolts.

Tire swans can be an additional decoration or stand alone decoration.

Manufactured and decorated swans can be installed on a whole tire, stub or just on the ground, lightly sprinkled with soil for stability.

In the same way, you can create another version of the swan figure. The tire does not need to be turned inside out; it is enough to bend the “wings” so that they fall to the ground.

If the tire is not turned out, the swan figure will be even more original.

It looks very elegant family of black swans from tires in a natural pond Swan can serve as a flower bed You can apply fantasy and paint the swan in several colors

Let's figure out how we will be making our swan.

First of all, you need to choose the necessary tire, the most suitable for work. This means that it is better to find the most "bald", from those considerations that it will be easier to cut. Very well, if there is a longitudinal pattern on it - this will also greatly facilitate the process.

Some tires have steel cord reinforcement (breaker). This tire is difficult to cut, in addition, there may be sharp ends of the cord sticking out at the cut, which can cause injury both during work and on the finished product. Therefore, preference should be given to the old tire with a nylon cord (in the marking should not be the words "Steel").

The selected tire must be thoroughly cleaned from dust and dirt, washed and dried - it is simply more pleasant to work with clean material.

Immediately prepare the tool. It will take:

  • chalk for marking;
  • roulette;
  • electric drill;
  • drills 3 and 10 mm in diameter;
  • a sharp knife (with a powerful blade, like a shoemaker);
  • jigsaw;
  • "Bulgarian" with a cutting disc;
  • pliers.

From additional materials:

  • wire for staples;
  • plastic metal rod (or thick wire) with a length of 1.2 - 1.5 meters;
  • paint to give the finished swan the desired color.

Of course, you need to be patient - the process is rather time-consuming and difficult. To work, it is better to choose a fine day in order to carry out the whole process under the open sky - in the process of drilling or cutting, the rubber burns, which is accompanied by an unpleasant and difficult eroding smell.

Product Marking

So, for example, working with a tire R13, 165 mm wide. Its circumference is 180 cm.

The markup should begin with the application of two scratches (lines), dividing the tire circumference roughly in half, this is essentially the length of the “neck” of the future “bird”.

Mark the future neck

Further, on the tread part of the tire, the “beak”, “head” and “neck” of the swan are drawn successively. Well, if the old tread pattern has a visible centerline - this will greatly simplify the markup. If not, then it will be easy to accurately carry out with chalk.

So, from the first risks, a “beak” is drawn symmetrically to the centerline, its length is 8–9 centimeters, its width is 3-4. "Beak" goes into the "head", a length of 10-12 centimeters and a width of 7 - 8.

It is clear that where the “head” ends - the “neck” begins, which gradually expands to the “body”, at its beginning it is 4–5 centimeters wide, reaches 8–10 by the end. which divided the tire in two.

The last markup element is “tail”. In part, it is already outlined, its fork - this is what happens when you cut the "beak". It remains only to draw two parallel lines with a distance of about 8 centimeters (the width of the “head”) about 30 centimeters long.

Mark up the tail

We plant rhododendron in our garden.

Cutting process

Perhaps this is the most time-consuming stage of production, which requires patience, skill and increased caution, in order to avoid injuries. Probably, it will not be superfluous to remind you that the work should be carried out in strong working gloves to protect your hands as much as possible.

Remember safety! Do not neglect the means of protection: gloves and special glasses.

Cutting lead from the base of the neck to the head.

Depending on the material of the tire and the degree of its deterioration, this can be done in different ways. A heavily worn, thinned tire may have succumbed to a shoemaker's knife. The thicker protector can be trimmed with the help of the “grinder”, however this process is rather dangerous and is accompanied by an abundance of smoke and the smell of burning rubber.

If there is an electric jigsaw of sufficient power, then, after making the initial holes with the grinder, it is better to use them.

Experience shows that it is better to choose a file for a jigsaw with fairly frequent teeth pointing upwards - so the process is much simpler. The operation should not be performed at high speed of the instrument; on the contrary, it should be reduced by half.

To push the jig saw in the right place, you can make a slot with a grinder or just drill the holes at the edges of the “neck” with a 10 mm drill. By the way, the work will be much simpler if the same holes are drilled at all critical tipping points.

It will be a big mistake to cut one side first, and then switch to the other, working with a jigsaw in this case will be complicated by a strong vibration interfering with the process. It is better to cut both sides in parallel, in small sections of 4 to 5 centimeters. You can simplify the cutting by resting the tire on the inside into a piece of bar (board), gradually moving it as needed.

Saw a jigsaw on the planned lines

After cutting, you must carefully process the edges of the parts received. If there was a metal cord in the thickness of the tread - it would take a “grinder” to grind off the sticking steel wires. If the cord was nylon, it would be enough to cultivate the edges with a sharp knife.

Inverting the tire and giving the "neck" the necessary bending

So that, after cutting, the “wings” of the sidewalls of the tire gained their proper span, the rugged tire must be turned inside out. It will not make much work - a little effort with your hands and the help of your feet is quite easy to remove the tire that has lost its integrity.

Turning the tire, it will take some effort hands and feet :)

As a result, the “swan” has already spread its “wings”, but its “neck with the head” lies limply on the ground - they need to be strengthened and bend with the proper kind. To do this, and you need a cooked steel bar.

To begin with, it is necessary along the centerline, symmetrically to it, to drill the twin holes, 3 mm in diameter. They are drilled starting from the center of the “head” and up to the beginning of the “tail”, with the distance between the pairs of holes - about 15 centimeters.

We drill a pair of holes along the neck every 15 cm.

The required number of staples of soft wire, which are threaded into the holes made. These brackets will hold a metal bar that stiffens the structure.

In the pair of holes made in the neck of a swan we insert these brackets

Insert brackets like this

It is better to start laying the rod from below, twisting protruding ends of brackets around it with pliers. After cutting off the excess "swan neck" can be given a characteristic bend.

To some, it may seem simpler or more accessible to use the place of the steel strip rod is also a completely acceptable solution. In this case, steel and rubber can be joined with bolts or rivets.

Fasten a metal bar along the neck with cooked straps

In essence, the “mechanical” part of the work is over.

  Tire Swan  - A cheap option to decorate your site. Almost every driver has unwanted tires, they are lying in the garage under the pretext of "Someday come in handy." It is time to apply them - let's make the swans!

How to make a swan from tires with your own hands?

Before you make a swan from tires, find an old and unnecessary tire. It is best to take a bald and without metal cord. Otherwise the process may be delayed, the processing will take longer.

We also need:

Coarse wire;
- screws;
- paint.

Do not forget to prepare and tools - a knife, jigsaw and drill.

1.   To begin with, chalk out our tire in order to know exactly where to cut it. We divide the tire in half, one side - will be the beginning of the head, the second - the tail.

2.   Then we draw lines along the tire, separating the head, tail and wings. Begin to cut them. Use a knife, and in difficult places - a jigsaw.

3.   Now one of the most difficult moments, cut into pieces tire, you need to turn on the other side. It is best to do this with someone, it will be very difficult for yourself.

4.   The frame of the swan is ready. There are only a few steps left, one of them is to secure the neck. Drill make holes in the tire, and attach the wire.

5.   Swan made! Paint it in red and white.

These beautiful swans can be set where your heart wishes.

It was one of several swan design options. You can also make a swan without turning the tire inside out, but then you have to cut the wings into 2 parts, as indicated in the photo.
